They’ll certainly need to do just that if Eastbourne Borough aren’t to progress
they’ve not lost a single game at home all season long
Maidstone United’s comfortable 2-0 victory at Worthing was their 11th away victory since August
This is sure to be a game you can’t take your eyes off
The story so far….Eastbourne Borough were one of six teams within a chance of the title on the last day this season
and whilst they will still be feeling disappointed it was always out of their hands
Adam Murray says he is proud of their season - but will the extra rest twist things in their favour
Maidstone dug deep at Worthing and as we know from the past few years
they’re very good at handling the big occasion
Eastbourne Borough: George Alexander: 24Alfie Pavey: 7Jayden Davis: 6Jason Adigun: 6
Maidstone United: Aaron Blair: 19Solomon Wanjau-Smith: 8Ben Brookes: 7
Head-to-head: 26/11/24: Maidstone United 3-1 Eastbourne Borough 25/02/25: Eastbourne Borough 1-0 Maidstone UnitedWhat the managers say...Adam Murray
Eastbourne Borough: “We’ve really enjoyed this week
it's given us the chance to rest players that need it and we've got a couple of the boys back fit now which is huge for us
there's going to be small margins in both games and it's about who can take advantage of the moment
“We know we're in for a tough game on Sunday against a really top team with a top manager”
Maidstone United: “We knew we had to play a perfect game on Wednesday
“We have to take pride in the work we are doing
“I saw the selflessness of each and everyone of the Maidstone United squad out at Worthing
ensuring that we come to a tough place and put in a tremendous performance.”

We look ahead to today's Play-Off Semi-Final at The ReachTV Stadium
After accumulating their highest ever points total at Step Two
the Sports missed out on the National South title by just one point
their third place finish at least sees them get a bye straight to the Play-Off Semi-Final
where they face Maidstone United this afternoon
That comes after the Stones beat the Sports’ Sussex rivals Worthing on Wednesday night
with a couple of Ben Brookes’ penalties giving them a 2-0 win at Sussex Transport Community Stadium
today sees them kick off their first play-off campaign since 2021/22
where they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Oxford CIty in the Play-Off Eliminator
A lot has changed on and off the pitch since Danny Bloor’s side finished sixth
and this group of players will be keen to get over the line and make it an unforgettable season
Borough will be happy to be home and go into today’s tie defending a proud unbeaten record – 401 days and counting (that’s 1 year
Rewind to a bonkers Good Friday afternoon which saw the Sports play over 35 minutes with not ten
Pierce Bird had drawn Borough level with a spectacular strike when it was 10 v 11 after Sam Beard’s red card
before Matt Rush made it 2-1 on 65 minutes
Adam Murray then opted to twist to get back into the game
but three goals inside the final five minutes saw the Stones run out 5-1 winners
Borough have since beaten Maidstone here – with George Alexander’s strike enough to give the Sports a 1-0 win at the end of February
with both teams looking to make the top-flight of Non-League football
and they’ll need all of those aspects today

Early designs have been released for the removal of another dangerous and congested level crossing in Melbourne’s west
We're building a new road bridge over the Werribee Line at Maidstone Street, Altona to create safer journeys and more reliable travel times for the busy industrial area and major rail freight route
With freight and passenger train services on the Werribee Line forecast to increase in the future
making removing this level crossing critical to keeping the west moving
The new road bridge will feature one lane in each direction with a pedestrian footpath and new lighting
with construction to start in 2025 and the level crossing to be gone for good by 2027
Building a road bridge avoids impacting important underground utilities and the nearby protected Maidstone Street Grassland
and will get rid of the crossing sooner while minimising disruptions to road users and rail passengers
More than 14,400 vehicles travel through this level crossing each day where the boom gates are down for more than 20% of the morning peak as 48 trains pass through
Removing this level crossing will boost safety
create more reliable travel times and contribute to a level crossing free Werribee Line by 2030
Locals can now share their feedback, which will help to refine designs for the Maidstone Street, Altona level crossing removal. Early designs, online surveys and more information about community information sessions is available at Engage Victoria.

With the new tram tracks on Hampstead and Williamson roads, there are permanent travel changes in place to allow the new trams, vehicles and pedestrians to move safely around Maidstone and Maribyrnong.
A new pedestrian crossing will be installed across Hampstead Road, closer to Wattle Road.
A new shared use path for pedestrians and bike riders will be built along the western side of Hampstead Road.
A new bus stop will open on Hampsted Road near the entrance to the tram facility on Hampstead Road.
Melbourne’s first G Class Trams are on the way with manufacturing underway in Dandenong.
The new trams will be more accessible and have more space, accommodating 150 passengers – which is about double the capacity of current high floor trams on the network.
The three section, 25 metre long trams will feature more doors, handrails and improvements to displays and passenger information – making it easier and more accessible for people to use public transport.
The G Class trams are also being built to be more sustainable and energy-efficient, using less electricity compared to earlier classes of Melbourne trams.
The first G Class trams are expected to begin testing on the network in 2025 and will roll out on routes 57, 59 and 82.
a brand new tram maintenance and stabling facility is being built in Melbourne’s west
As a part of the Next Generation Trams Project, a brand new tram maintenance and stabling facility is being built in Melbourne’s west.
Tram stabling is where trams are parked while not in operation. The new facility will maintain, clean and store the state’s newest tram fleet.
The project has also built a short section of non-passenger tram track to connect the facility with Route 82 and the wider network, along Hampstead and Williamson roads. Trams will access the facility from Hampstead Road.

New traffic lights at the intersection of Hampstead and Williamson roads allow for a dedicated right turn lane to allow drivers to turn onto Williamson Road.
Raised concrete sections, known as separation kerbing, have been installed on either side of the tram tracks on Hampstead Road. This kerbing creates a physical barrier between trams and vehicles to protect everyone’s safety.

Goals either side of the break did the damage for the Wings as the Stones strengthened their play-off credentials with a convincing victory
The hosts came agonisingly close to opening the scoring with just five minutes on the clock when Jez Davies swivelled nicely on the edge of the box before seeing his shot crash back off the woodwork and clawed away by Stones stopper Alexis Andre Jr
the promotion-chasing visitors began to turn the screw – Jack Burchell made a good block from Charlie Seaman’s volley
before Rhys Lovett made a good save to keep Ruben Shakpoke’s shot out of the bottom left-hand corner
It would not be long before Maidstone would get the opener
with Aaron Blair crashing home a finish into the roof of the net
Welling looked to respond with Davies hitting the crossbar for the second time with another good-looking shot from the edge of the penalty area
but their efforts were hindered on the half-hour mark when Deon Moore was forced off with injury
The Stones continued to push for a second and got it before the break
and it came via a set-piece as Temi Eweka powered home a header from a corner
It would get worse for the Wings in the second half as the visitors made it three just six minutes after the restart as they capitalised on a Lovett error
The goalkeeper’s attempted clearance resulted in a mis-kick
allowing Jacob Berkley-Agyepong the simple task of finishing into an empty net
Three became four before the hour mark when the Stones were awarded a penalty after Lovett was adjudged to have fouled Berkley-Agyepong in the box
leaving Ben Brookes to step up and dispatch his spot-kick to put the game well and truly beyond the hosts
The work will now begin for Welling to mount a challenge for an immediate return as they prepare for life in step three next season

Chibuike Ekeiwu has worked at the Kent prison since 2022
The photographer Tom Pilston recounts a day spent with him keeping order in a tough environment
He is not particularly tall or musclebound
has a friendly face and talks in an intelligent
is also a patient man with an ability to defuse tension
which can frustrate the prisoners he works with at HMP Maidstone
Ekeiwu leaves the shared Victorian terrace house he lives in at dawn and drives across town bathed in the yellow light of the street lamps
Ekeiwu drives to the prison and walks the last 50 metres to the staff entrance before making his way to the Kent House wing
he is greeted by smiles and jocular comments about the photographer who is spending the day with him
(I am here under the strict understanding that no prisoners are identifiable in any of my photographs.) Ekeiwu smiles back and puts personal items away and swaps them for the tools of his trade
Ekeiwu eventually arrives on the Kent House wing of the prison
which is still quiet and dark before the morning unlock
Ekeiwu signs for a kitchen delivery (above) and supervises the recycling (below)
View image in fullscreenView image in fullscreenNoise builds and prisoners appear from their cells as the morning unlock gets under way
Some of the inmates are well groomed and bright while others look bleary eyed and sullen
Many greet Ekeiwu with a smile and a welcome
I say on the surface because later in the day they may be goading and provoking him due to something they are unhappy about
a seemingly small problem can take on huge proportions and it can consume a person’s mind
Ekeiwu keeps a sharp eye out for anything suspicious
As prisoners emerge into the grey light of the exercise yard
who’s the cameraman?”; “Take my picture”; “Don’t take mine”)
while others meander to far corners and chat
Two men walk out holding slices of white bread that they break into pieces and throw to the pigeons that come and go as they please
The two men watch them as they peck at the bread
before the birds fly up to the roof of the wing with a view of the River Medway that flows through the town
which must seem like a symbol of freedom as they fly over the prison wall
In the yard as the cold morning progresses
Ekeiwu begins searching prisoners who need to go to different parts of the prison to fulfil jobs or have gym sessions
Prisoners who don’t have such engagements slowly make their way to their small cells
others without complaint but with a sense of resignation
Ekeiwu’s job now is to oversee certain prisoners’ work
a slight but intense man with sharp eyes under a woolly hat
“Some small thing may have annoyed him or maybe he is doing this because you are here with a camera.”
Ekeiwu calms a prisoner who is remonstrating about his duties
The morning progresses with only small pockets of boisterous noise now and again
as a lunch of hard boiled eggs and salad is being served
Some including Ekeiwu move into a small locked office on the wing to discuss what is happening
prison officer Jon Allchin and Ekeiwu have a meeting as tension mounts after a prisoner is found to have a mobile phone
A smuggled mobile phone has been found in a prisoner’s cell
It has been used for communication with someone on the outside to arrange for a package to be thrown over the prison walls
The prisoner is quietly removed from the wing and the package is seized
Ekeiwu searches random prisoners as they leave for jobs or organised exercise
View image in fullscreenView image in fullscreenThis kind of thing is part of what one prison officer calls the “cat and mouse” game that staff often have to play
looking calm and content on the outside but inside being constantly on their guard
utilising not a sixth sense but what they call their “prison sense”
Ekeiwu and his colleagues are constantly relying on a mixture of patience
Elements that always exist when different people are thrown together in a confined space
It sometimes puts you in mind of an odd type of boarding school or barracks
The afternoon draws to its close after another meal
The prisoner with the piercing eyes and the woolly hat has another dig at Ekeiwu
Ekeiwu works his way along the others on his given landing
and with a general air of cordiality and resignation the prisoners move into their own cells
one or two savouring the last moment of relative freedom on the landing before Ekeiwu reaches their door
Only one proves momentarily combative and remonstrates about his daily duties before once again the Chibs effect calms the situation and the door closes behind him
with an unfinished game of dominoes resting on a small table and a Bible placed in a wall recess
as he retraces his way back through the endless doors and gates
At the exit he picks up his things and I my phone
back to news of the Middle East and Donald Trump
Arriving back at his kitchen where house sharers drop in and out
there is just time for a change of clothes and a cup of tea before Ekeiwu is out again
He travels across Maidstone to a local football ground where he meets colleagues and friends to play football
a sport he played to a high level when he was younger
part psychologist and often a role model,” he says
Looking out of the steamed-up windows of his car before saying goodbye
I ask Ekeiwu what is the best thing about his work
Ekeiwu arrives home and enjoys a quick cup of tea
“I always think about a certain young prisoner on the wing some time back
But I saw something in him and we worked with him and helped him
He did have some education and he ended up as chair of the prisoners’ council before being released to a cat D prison
