The Delta Police Department says a man has been arrested after an incident on a bus on Annacis Island
Delta Police were made aware of an incident on Annacis Island where a male with a knife had barricaded himself on a transit bus,” the department said in a news release
“Several passengers and the driver were evacuated.”
There were no injuries and there is no risk to the public
TransLink had said earlier Sunday that there was a police incident taking place on a number 301 bus at Highway 91 and Cliveden Avenue
and DriveBC said multiple roads had been blocked as a result
and Metro Vancouver Transit Police responded to the area
Some road closures were put into effect in the area
with the Cliveden Avenue overpass and the offramp to Cliveden from the West Channel bridge being blocked
and the Cliveden overpass is back open,” DriveBC posted

Passengers had to hold up part of their plane's cabin during a Delta flight from Atlanta to Chicago
Passenger Thomas Witschy told Storyful a ceiling panel came "crashing down" shortly after Delta Flight 2417 took off from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on April 14
“Myself and two other passengers held it up from our seats until my neighbor and the flight crew could get it scotch taped back into position,” he said, sharing video of the incident and a photo of the taped panel with Storyful
Delta Air Lines confirmed the panel was later secured so customers wouldn't have to hold it
The airline said the Boeing 717 returned to Atlanta for cabin maintenance
and passengers continued their trip on another aircraft with a two-hour delay
"Delta thanks our customers for their patience and cooperation
We apologize for the delay in their travels," Delta said in a statement shared with USA TODAY
A scream at 30,000 feet: What happened when a bride's heart gave out on her flight home
Federal aviation officials are investigating a close call between a Delta Air Lines passenger plane and an Air Force jet outside Washington, D.C., that triggered a collision warning and "corrective instructions" from air traffic controllers. The incident came nearly two months after a fatal collision at the same airport between an airliner and an Army helicopter
The latest incident, Friday afternoon, occurred while four U.S. Air Force T-38 Talons were en route to Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia for a flyover, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. A T-38 Talon is a two-seat supersonic jet used to train pilots, according to the Air Force.
took off from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
an alert sounded off inside the cockpit of the passenger plane
indicating that another aircraft was nearby
air traffic controllers issued "corrective instructions" to both aircraft
The FAA said it will be investigating the incident
Delta said its flight crew properly followed instructions from the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
The airline said it will cooperate with regulators to review the incident
"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people," Delta said in a statement
The Air Force did not immediately respond to a request for comment
The incident comes nearly two months after an American Airlines jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided outside of DCA airport, killing 67 people. In response, the FAA announced it would drastically limit helicopter flights near the airport
Earlier this month, at a news conference, National Transportation Safety Board chairwoman Jennifer Homendy called the flight patterns around DCA "an intolerable risk," pointing to how helicopters and commercial planes operate in short distances to each other within an already busy airspace
The NTSB's preliminary report on the deadly crash found that
there were more than 15,000 occurrences of close calls between commercial planes and helicopters
or when two aircraft were separated less than 6,100 feet laterally and less than 400 feet vertically
there were 85 recorded incidents where they were apart by less than 1,500 feet laterally and less than 200 feet vertically
Tracking data from FlightRadar24 on Friday showed that there was a brief moment when both the Delta plane and military aircraft were flying above the same area of the Potomac River near Alexandria's Potomac Yard
three flight attendants and 131 passengers were on the Delta Airbus A319
According to CNN
which first reported the incident and cited LiveATC.net
one of the Delta pilots asked air traffic controllers on Friday
"On that departure … was there an actual aircraft about 500 ft below us as we came off of DCA?"
Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota said the incident was "unbelievably dangerous," adding that she plans to reach out to the Pentagon
"My first call to Department of Defense tomorrow: why are your planes flying 500 feet below passenger jets full of Minnesotans headed from DCA to my state," she wrote on X

Solid March quarter revenue and strong cost performance drove profitability in line with last year
Guiding to June quarter operating margin of 11 percent to 14 percent and EPS of $1.70 to $2.30
Reducing planned capacity growth in the second half to flat year on year
ATLANTA, April 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today reported financial results for the March quarter and provided its outlook for the June quarter. Highlights of the March quarter
"While the first quarter unfolded differently than initially expected
we delivered solid profitability that was flat to prior year and is expected to lead the industry. I would like to thank our people for their outstanding performance and hard work during the quarter," said Ed Bastian
"With broad economic uncertainty around global trade
growth has largely stalled. In this slower-growth environment
we are protecting margins and cash flow by focusing on what we can control. This includes reducing planned capacity growth in the second half of the year to flat over last year while actively managing costs and capital expenditures."
"We expect June quarter profitability of $1.5 to $2 billion. Given the lack of economic clarity
it is premature at this time to provide an updated full-year outlook. Given our position of strength
our bias toward action and the decline in fuel prices
Delta remains well positioned to deliver solid profitability and free cash flow for the year. I expect that our financial results will continue to lead the industry and validate our strategy to create differentiation and greater financial durability."
March Quarter 2025 Non-GAAP Financial Results
1Non-GAAP measures; Refer to Non-GAAP reconciliations for historical comparison figures
Delta is not reaffirming full year 2025 financial guidance and will provide an update later in the year as visibility improves
consistent with revised guidance. Through the quarter
high-margin revenue streams showed resilience
improving over prior year and approaching 60 percent of total revenue," said Glen Hauenstein
we expect June quarter total revenue to be down 2 percent to up 2 percent over prior year
loyalty and international partially offsetting Domestic and main cabin softness. 2025 is playing out differently than we expected at the start of the year. As a result
we are adapting to current conditions while staying true to our long-term strategy."

including tickets for travel during and beyond the referenced time period
"Our teams ran a strong operation despite challenging weather at the start of the year
enabling us to drive efficiency and deliver non-fuel unit cost growth of up 2.6 percent over prior year. This was better than our initial expectation and a sequential improvement from the end of 2024," said Dan Janki
Delta's chief financial officer. "As we reduce capacity growth
we are taking incremental action to manage costs. We expect non-fuel unit cost growth consistent with our long-term target of up low-single digits in the second quarter and through the rest of the year."
"Delta's decade-plus commitment to our consistent strategy
investment and execution has created a differentiated and durable business that positions us to navigate periods of uncertainty," Janki said. "We ended the first quarter with gross leverage of 2.6x and expect to repay at least $3 billion of debt this year as we continue to strengthen our investment grade balance sheet. During the quarter
we achieved our highest credit rating in decades following an upgrade from Moody's
reflecting our continued focus on debt reduction as we progress towards our long-term gross leverage target of 1x."

Note A: The following tables show reconciliations of non-GAAP financial measures
The reasons Delta uses these measures are described below
Reconciliations may not calculate exactly due to rounding.
Delta sometimes uses information ("non-GAAP financial measures") that is derived from the Consolidated Financial Statements
but that is not presented in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the U.S
Under the Securities and Exchange Commission rules
non-GAAP financial measures may be considered in addition to results prepared in accordance with GAAP
but should not be considered a substitute for or superior to GAAP results
The tables below show reconciliations of non-GAAP financial measures used in this release to the most directly comparable GAAP financial measures
Delta is not able to reconcile forward looking non-GAAP financial measures without unreasonable effort because the adjusting items such as those used in the reconciliations below will not be known until the end of the period and could be significant
Adjustments. These reconciliations include certain adjustments to GAAP measures that are made to provide comparability between the reported periods
Excluding these sales therefore provides a more meaningful comparison of our airline operations to the rest of the airline industry
MTM adjustments on investments. Mark-to-market ("MTM") adjustments are defined as fair value changes recorded in periods other than the settlement period
Unrealized gains/losses result from our equity investments that are accounted for at fair value in non-operating expense
The gains/losses are driven by changes in stock prices
foreign currency fluctuations and other valuation techniques for investments in certain companies
particularly those without publicly-traded shares
Adjusting for these gains/losses allows investors to better understand and analyze our core operational performance in the periods shown
MTM fair value changes are not necessarily indicative of the actual settlement value of the underlying hedge in the contract settlement period
and therefore we remove this impact to allow investors to better understand and analyze our core performance
Settlements represent cash received or paid on hedge contracts settled during the applicable period
This adjustment relates to early termination of a portion of our debt
Adjusting for these losses allows investors to better understand and analyze our core operational performance in the periods shown

Free cash flow is defined as net cash from operating activities and net cash from investing activities
adjusted for (i) pension plan contributions
(ii) net cash flows related to certain airport construction projects and (iii) net redemptions of short-term investments
These adjustments are made for the following reasons:
Cash flows related to pension funding are included in our GAAP operating activities
We adjust to exclude these contributions to allow investors to understand the cash flows related to our core operations
Cash flows related to certain airport construction projects are included in our GAAP operating activities and capital expenditures
to provide investors a better understanding of the company's free cash flow and capital expenditures that are core to our operations in the periods shown
Net redemptions of short-term investments. Net redemptions of short-term investments represent the net purchase and sale activity of investments and marketable securities in the period

A Delta man has lost his driver's licence after allegedly driving his taxi while impaired
According to a BC RCMP Highway Patrol press release
an officer saw a taxi leaving a liquor store with no passenger last Tuesday morning (April 29) and decided to pull the yellow Toyota Prius over on Alexandra Road in Richmond at 8:11 a.m.to check that the man behind the wheel was safe to drive.
The driver was given a mandatory breath demand
and an approved screening device returned two "fail" results. The taxi driver
identified only as a 33-year-old Delta man
received a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the cab was towed and impounded for 30 days at the taxi company’s expense
"BC Highway Patrol’s Integrated Road Safety Unit is always on the lookout for impaired driving
Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol said in a press release
"The vast majority of taxi drivers take their jobs seriously and are sober," McLaughlin said
"But if you’re ever a passenger and you feel like something is wrong

Police say a Delta taxi driver has lost his licence for 90 days after failing a roadside impairment test last week
The BC Highway Patrol says an officer acted on a hunch when he saw the driver
“He decided it was important to check that the man behind the wheel was safe to drive,” Mounties said in a release Monday
The officer pulled the taxi over on Alexandra Road in Richmond
Police say the driver was given a mandatory breath test and failed twice
The BCHP says he lost his driver’s licence for a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition
and the taxi was towed and impounded for 30 days at the company’s expense
“The vast majority of taxi drivers take their jobs seriously and are sober,” said Cpl

The City of Delta has received an application to build a trio of towers at the southwest corner of 84th Avenue and 112th Street
Today (Monday, May 5), council will receive a staff report outlining a rezoning application from Westcorp Holdings Ltd
to redevelop the 1.3-hectare Nordel Centre
The "Nordel Village" application proposes replacing the ground-level strip mall diagonally across the street from North Delta's George Mackie Library with a mixed-use high-rise project featuring a 24-storey tower with a six-storey podium along the northwest edge of the property; a 14-storey tower at the northeast corner and a 24-storey tower
both integrated into the same eight-storey podium; and a six-storey building along the southern edge of the site
The project includes approximately 865 residential strata units
over 4,000 square metres (43,056 square feet) of commercial floor area, a 264-square-metre (2,842-square-foot) privately owned and operated childcare facility
and 1,034 parking spaces — 24 angled spaces at grade along the internal road between the buildings
and 1,010 in two levels of underground parking
The site will have to be rezoned as a new Comprehensive Development Zone from it's current designation of Core Commercial, however Westcorp Holding's application is consistent with the Delta's Official Community Plan, which designates the area around 84th and 112th as one of three new urban centres
allowing residential and mixed-use developments up to six storeys with “limited opportunities for up to 24 storeys where a significant community contribution is provided.”
As part of that community contribution
the owner is proposing to providing support to existing businesses in Nordel Centre
including a phased development plan to allow some businesses to remain open during construction of the first phase
business support to help businesses maintain and grow their revenues during the development process
and right of first refusal for select businesses to relocate to the new development at below-market rates
Westcorp Holdings is also proposing a cash contribution of $1,568,000 toward community benefits
equivalent to approximately $1,800 per unit
or to provide 20 market rental units for ten years (equal to just over 2.3 per cent of the total number of units)
Staff's report to council notes the required contribution for buildings six storeys or less under the city's Parks
Recreation and Culture Amenity Contributions Policy is $1,000 per unit
the applicant is including the proposed childcare facility
and a pair of public plazas — one 111 square metres (1,200 square feet) at the corner of 84th and 112th
the other 372 square metres (4,000 square feet) in the centre of the site — as part of its community contribution package
Westcorp Holdings has also requested that the city consider the support they provided to the Guru Nanak Food Bank as a community contribution
noting that for the past three years the owner has provided the organization with a 557-square-metre (5,996-square-foot) space in the shopping centre rent-free
foregoing $660,000 in revenue over 30 months
"Staff have advised the applicant that a significant community contribution is needed for projects seeking rezoning for heights above six stories
and that the proposed height of up to 24 stories for this location would therefore require a significant contribution toward community benefits to justify the additional height requested," the report to council states
"The applicant has requested to move forward to the public engagement phase to seek feedback with the community contribution as proposed."
and circulating the application to internal city departments as well as external agencies including Fraser Health
staff would report back to council with the results of the community engagement
Last September, council gave third reading to an application for a six-storey mixed-use development at the northwest corner of 84th and 112th
That proposal that would see the existing 7-Eleven replaced with six commercial retail units at ground level and 84 apartments in the floors above — 54 one-bedroom
28 two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units — with 147 parking spaces (66 for residents
8 for visitors and 73 for commercial tenants) in two levels below ground
The development will also have a combined 533 square metres (5,737 square feet) of outdoor amenity areas — a children's play area
outdoor seating lounge and open lawn in the common outdoor amenity area at ground level
lounge space and a community garden on the roof — and 149 square metres (1,604 square feet) of indoor amenity area
Council has yet give that project final reading
Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) announced that it has begun the much-anticipated
multi-phase process to transform Delta Center into a state-of-the-art
dual-sport venue and anchor Utah’s NBA and NHL franchises in downtown Salt Lake City
The transformation includes the implementation of a revolutionary seating system that maintains close-to-the-action seating for Jazz fans and affords full views from every lower bowl seat for NHL games – preserving Delta Center’s famous game-night atmosphere while bolstering its reputation as the premier destination for concerts and entertainment in the region
the building itself will debut a new main entrance and outdoor plaza that provides a vibrant experience for ticket holders and downtown visitors alike
Renovations are underway to transform Delta Center into a state-of-the-art
Delta Center was originally built in 1991 as the home of the Utah Jazz
underwent a significant top-to-bottom renovation in 2017
and was modified again in 2024 to accommodate Utah’s new NHL team
The multi-year transformation that begins now will be the arena’s most extensive and innovative inside-out effort yet
centered on changing the geometry of the arena bowl to optimize hockey sightlines and enhance the overall experience
“Adding an ice rink inside an existing basketball arena is an unthinkable feat given that an ice rink is nearly double the size of a basketball court
We are excited for the challenge as we kick off this never-before-done renovation project
This transformation will create the most compelling
while also allowing us to maintain the steep vertical seating for basketball that has made Delta Center such a dynamic venue with its loud atmosphere that energizes our players night after night,” said Ryan and Ashley Smith
co-founders of Smith Entertainment Group and owners of Delta Center
“By taking such significant steps to transform Delta Center into a world-class facility for both professional basketball and hockey
the Jazz and Utah’s NHL team will become anchors of downtown Salt Lake City for decades to come
And fans will be further immersed in the game night experience both inside and outside the arena as we work to reimagine the downtown experience of Utah’s capital city
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2025-26 seasons.”
Implementing an Innovative Riser System in the Lower Bowl
While most arenas that host basketball and hockey are designed to be hockey-first – which puts greater distance between basketball fans and the court – SEG is doing something that has never been done before in a dual-use basketball and hockey arena by creating the first-and-only retractable seating system that accommodates a nearly 12-foot variance in elevation between rink and court endlines to offer optimal sightlines for both the NBA and NHL
The innovative new system will keep the incredible viewing experience for Jazz fans that they have come to love while optimizing sightlines for NHL fans
with every seat in the lower bowl set to have a complete view of the ice at the start of the 2025-26 season
The new hockey configuration also adds capacity behind the goals and above and around the event tunnels on the north and south side of the lower bowl and improves access to seating behind the boards
the riser system will consist of 29 rows of retractable seats that extend over 28 feet from the Level 3 concourse down to the court behind each baseline – all designed to ensure the arena maintains its steep slope that will continue to put Jazz fans in incredibly close proximity to the court
seating capacity for hockey will increase from 11,131 to approximately 17,000 – with every seat in the upper and lower bowls having full views of both goals – and capacity for basketball will increase from 18,206 to nearly 19,000 seats
SEG contracted with Michigan-based StageRight for this unique and innovative retractable seating system
To make room for the new riser system and the installation of a new ice floor slab
SEG is lengthening the arena bowl by approximately 12 feet at each end and raising the floor two feet
These changes will improve sightlines along the sidelines
and set the stage for future upper bowl renovations
Several other modifications taking place in 2025 are aimed at updating building infrastructure and creating new opportunities for entertainment
In addition to new premium spaces on Level 1
the restroom capacity at Delta Center will increase by 12%
and four new dehumidifiers will be installed to maintain excellent ice conditions in the arena at all times
SEG will also begin to construct a 450-stall parking structure
that will be completed in a future phase of construction
Major interior and exterior construction will continue during future NBA and NHL offseasons
Plans include adding an east-facing main entrance and plaza that will serve as a gateway to the heart of downtown; redesigning the existing plaza and concourses; and remodeling upper bowl seating to improve sightlines
SEG made initial updates to Delta Center in Summer 2024
These included adding a new home NHL locker room and team workout and treatment facilities
new visiting team locker rooms for the NBA and NHL
additional spaces for coaches and rooms for league officials
and a tunnel pathway adjacent to home and away team locker rooms that provide access to their respective benches
The Utah Jazz locker room was also redesigned
a new lighting system was installed to add vibrancy and enhance views for hockey
and broadcast platforms were expanded to make room for hockey cameras
The flagship Team Store located inside the main entrance nearly doubled in size
and several courtside suites were renovated
The onset of Delta Center renovations also marks the official beginning of a large-scale effort to reimagine downtown Salt Lake City through the creation of a world-class sports
The multi-block development will reconnect the east and west sides of the city’s downtown core
from Delta Center to the Salt Palace Convention Center
The new development is anticipated to increase visitation
and family-friendly year-round downtown experience for decades to come
SEG brought on three world-renowned groups to help drive the Delta Center transformation project: Utah-based Okland Construction is the general contractor; SCI Architects is the lead design firm; and CAA Icon serves as a strategic advisor

Delta Center receives renovations to accommodate Utah Hockey Club
The NHL will look different in Utah next season
Smith Entertainment Group announced Wednesday it has begun the first phase of renovations of Delta Center in Salt Lake City
pushing technology further than ever before to turn an arena built for basketball into a dual-sport facility
It is also progressing on the permanent brand identity for the Utah Hockey Club
each seat in the lower bowl will have a great view for hockey
we’re going to see a great improvement in the lower-bowl capacity for hockey,” said Jim Olson
who is leading facilities projects for SEG
Delta Center was built in 1991 as the home of the Jazz and underwent a significant renovation in 2017
The NHL established a new franchise in Utah on April 18
SEG sprinted to ready the arena for hockey for 2024-25
Only 11,131 seats had a full view of the ice
“I think it’s the best basketball venue in the NBA,” Olson said
“It was built for basketball with sightlines that created just an incredible fan experience for basketball
And when you come and plop the size of an ice sheet in that venue with those sightlines
SEG set out to retain the experience for basketball while creating one for hockey
The renovation work must be done in the offseason for the NHL and NBA
Olson said SEG is hopeful and optimistic the full renovation will be completed over the next three summers
“We’ve got all the plans and everything ready to go for the work this summer
that could change the timeline a little bit
A few other factors could come into play that could change the timeline.”
lengthen the arena bowl by about 12 feet at each end and install a revolutionary retractable seating system that will accommodate a nearly 12-foot variance in elevation between the rink and court endlines
The lower bowl will have 1,000 new seats for hockey
and 400 limited-view seats will become full-view
“We are replacing the retractable seating in both the end zones and sidelines,” Larry Lippold of SCI Architects said
“We’re really maintaining the basketball sightlines
so you’re really not going to feel a change in the basketball experience
But we will have a premium experience for hockey as well
so [it’s] really packing in the fans close to the action.”
“We are going with a much steeper rake for hockey in the end zones behind the net,” Lippold said
“It’s similar technology that’s been used in other buildings
but what they’re using now is a triple scissor lift
so the change in rake is greater than any other building to switch over between basketball and hockey
so [it’s] using existing technology but really
SEG will make other modifications this summer
increasing restroom capacity by 12 percent and installing four new dehumidifiers to maintain optimal ice conditions
It will begin building a 450-stall parking structure that will take two years to finish
redesign the concourses and the existing plaza
SEG expects to have close to 17,000 seats for hockey
“Our ultimate goal in this transformation is that both sports can have an incredible fan experience
that one or the other is not sacrificed based on the different size of the playing field
meaning the court and the ice sheet,” Olson said
“Both will have incredible viewing experiences and great sightlines.”
What will be at center ice -- Utah Hockey Club
“Progress continues on exploring all three of the name options that were chosen as finalists by our fans,” SEG executive Mike Maughan said
“We’re fully on track to announce a permanent name and identity ahead of the ’25-26 NHL season and look forward to sharing that with our fans when we do.”

Delta Air Lines will take delivery of a new Airbus A350 aircraft this week and avoid tariff costs by flying it from the factory in Toulouse to Tokyo
The new aircraft, tail number N528DN
is scheduled to operate flight DAL 9936 on Wednesday
departing Toulouse at 11:10 am CEST and arriving in Tokyo on Thursday
The aircraft’s next destination is still unknown
until it no longer qualifies as a new aircraft that would incur import tariffs
Delta used this international aircraft launch strategy to avoid tariffs imposed during President Donald Trump’s first term in office
During the airline’s recent earnings call Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said addressed the cost impacts of tariffs on the airline’s fleet in a press statement
which is the only aircraft manufacturer we’ve got deliveries coming from for the balance of this year
and we’ll do our very best to minimize tariffs
but we are very clear that we won’t be paying tariffs on any aircraft deliveries we take
and if you start to put a 20% incremental cost on top of an aircraft
it gets very difficult to make that math work
and we'll work through and see what happens from that.”
The airline currently operates a fleet of 36 Airbus A350-900s
It also has an order for 20 Airbus A350-1000s scheduled for delivery next year with options for 20 more
The list price for Airbus A350-900 aircraft is $308 million and A350-1000s list for $355 million
and I think we’ll be looking at Canada and Mexico as places that we probably want to reduce our capacity levels as we move forward,” he said
Bastian stated during the earnings call that tariffs have effected the airline’s corporate travel customers
“There's about a 10-point velocity rate change from where we were at the beginning of the year to where we are now
which is flat,” Bastian said during the call
“And I think a lot of companies are trying to figure out what the future is
If we continue on in this elongated sense of uncertainty
you'll see continued reductions in corporate travel
But I think it's premature to project too far ahead at this time.”
“Our government affairs team is hard at work on it to make the case as to why there should be a carve-out,” American Airlines CFO Devon May told Reuters
“It’s really difficult for us to wrap our heads around paying tariffs on those airplanes,” May added
“It just doesn't make economic sense.”

adding a slew of new routes from the Big Apple
The airline will add service from its hub at New York's John F
Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
Memphis International Airport (MEM) and St
Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) beginning Sept
The airline will operate all three routes once per day
from its hub at the other airport in Queens — LaGuardia Airport (LGA) — Delta will extend the season on flights to Panama City Beach's Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP)
which is already scheduled on a once-weekly basis during the summer
Delta has one more expansion planned for New York
will operate daily to Delta's hub at Minneapolis-St
Paul International Airport (MSP) beginning Sept
Two new services — one from Salt Lake City to Little Rock
The Salt Lake City flights will operate daily beginning Sept
while the new Austin service will operate seasonally in the winter on Saturdays starting Nov
as Delta is cutting seven routes as part of this expansion
as first seen in Cirium timetables and later confirmed by a carrier spokesperson
This isn't the only expansion that Delta recently filed. Over the weekend, the airline added seven new point-to-point routes to Orlando that don't touch any of the carrier's hubs
Delta doesn't usually offer one-off flights from nonhub airports
but demand to Orlando is seemingly strong enough to support some of those one-off flights
Delta can poach some traffic from two wounded competitors — Spirit Airlines and Southwest Airlines — both of which are undergoing major commercial transformations that are sure to rankle some frequent flyers.)
This latest expansion spree from Delta seems to be aimed at doubling down on its position from key hubs
Delta is already the largest carrier at both JFK and LGA
and this expansion is poised to keep it firmly in first place
As such, the airline is seemingly trying to do as much as it can to woo locals to choose it over the competition. That's great news for flyers, as it will give them more choices — and hopefully lower fares — in many markets. Fingers crossed that Delta SkyMiles redemption rates aren't sky-high, though.
