Architecture et Urbanisme (lead) with Enrico Garbin
The competition for the design of the New school center in the La Santa area of Viganello attracted interest from 92 architecture studios from Switzerland
The open competition was conducted in two phases: in the first phase
competitors developed an urban-architectural concept
Sixty-one first-phase projects were submitted by the deadline
The jury evaluated the proposals and shortlisted 10 projects
The participants admitted to the second phase refined their concepts
creating an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with specialists
The jury unanimously awarded first prize to the project named ARIA by the Swiss architecture studio Epure
in collaboration with the interdisciplinary group of specialists from Lugano-based firms Passera & Associati SA (civil engineering)
and Officina del Paesaggio (landscape architecture)
The winning project was praised for its clear and balanced urban planning solution
featuring a single building with well-organized spaces along Via Sara Frontini
The large public space is intelligently structured to create differentiated areas for students while also ensuring accessibility for the local community outside school hours
the Lugano City Council requested a credit of CHF 27.85 million from the City Parliament to execute the project
The new building will be constructed to MINERGIE® A-ECO standards
The credit was approved at the end of March 2023
and the building permit was granted in late July 2023
The project's development is currently under review by the Executive

was chosen by the City Council to promote the next generation of professionals
the jury unanimously awarded the first prize to the FIL ROUGE project
"The project establishes a fruitful dialogue with the existing building by proposing a lightweight metal structure that reinterprets and modernizes an architectural language contemporary to the school
built between 1974 and 1978 by Sergio Pagnamenta
The intervention offers a crowning structure that transforms the building while respecting its identity
The spatial articulation creates clear spaces that ensure flexibility of use and an atmosphere suitable for its functional purpose
The terrace for the after-school program adds further quality
by referencing an element of the existing building
establishes a sense of proximity and intimacy with the vegetation
providing a space open to diverse activities
The placement of the service core is considered ideal for both connection and distribution of utilities
The plan configuration allows for potential containment of heated volumes."
The construction began at the start of 2020 and was completed in September 2022
In February 2024, as part of the Premio SIA Ticino 2024, a mention was awarded to the project in the Young Professionals under 40 category
the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects Ticino section aims to promote the work of professionals who stand out in their practice for their attentive

Following two tenders awarded in Italy (in Vicenza and Genoa)
Hess continues to score commercial successes in the Italian-speaking city
In the international call for tenders issued by TPL
Hess won the contract for the delivery of the complete e-bus system
comprising eight electric articulated buses and the necessary charging infrastructure
The buses can run electrically for the entire daily operation of over 19 hours
thanks to two charging stations which have been constructed along the route
There are still about 60 Hess SwissAlpin midibuses currently operating in and around Lugano
the electrification of Route 5 is a first important step in the major transformation which
the company has prepared for with meticulous analysis
various kinds of study have been undertaken
from topographical assessments to others relating to the costs
energy and environmental performance of the company’s current fleet
it became apparent which technology (diesel
hybrid or electric) is the most suitable solution for use in Lugano
The facts and figures showed that electric vehicles are the most suitable solution for the drive unit
The decision to electrify Route 5 first is the result of a careful consideration of all the factors and actors
defines it as “a particular decision that underscores TPL’s definite determination to achieve sustainable results: Route 5 is actually one of the most challenging and frequently used“
It is one of the longest routes in Lugano (16.4 km there and back)
so every bus covers almost 300 kilometres a day
as well as overcoming a difference in altitude of 117 metres
it has the second highest number of passengers after Route 3.

Positioned within Lugano’s 1970s expansion area
this new residential project stands as a refined yet powerful presence
Situated on the eastern side of Via Luigi Taddei in Lugano Viganello
it takes full advantage of the planning and environmental constraints
transforming them into opportunities for architectural expression
Rather than a conventional residential block
the building’s form is dynamic—light
and fluid—interacting with the surrounding cityscape in a way that feels natural yet unexpected
The decision was made because of the declining sales at the location for five years
a Manor spokeswoman confirmed a report in the daily newspaper "Corriere del Ticino"
the lease agreement expires at the end of March 2017
the retailer stressed that investments in Ticino would continue
The department store in Vezia will be completely renovated this year
This has already been done at the store in Lugano at Salita Chiattone 10
In a constantly transforming urban context
quality of life represents an important criterion for evaluating social sustainability within broader urban development
Lugano has faced the significant process of municipal mergers
has changed its territorial structure while
has significantly increased its population
The City is also subject to strong annual population movements
In light of these contextual changes and thanks to a federal financial contribution
in 2016 the City Council assigned an internal mandate to various city departments — Statistica (Statistics Office)
Divisione Socialità (Division of Social Affairs)
Ufficio quartieri (District Office) — in collaboration with the two District Commissions
to develop a participatory sustainable development project
involved residents of two of the most populous districts: Molino Nuovo and Pregassona
an evaluation questionnaire was sent to all households in the two districts (approximately 11,000 copies for a population of over 20,000 residents) to gather not only their needs but also their improvement proposals
Social isolation and the lack of community spaces
and the functionality of public transport emerged as strengths
Residents also expressed interest in the next phases of the project and
offered their availability to participate in meetings and discussions
The Progetto Quartieri (District Project)
supported by funding from the Cantonal Integration Program (PIC)
has since 2017 developed various initiatives based on the survey results
with the goal of involving residents and the associative network
it became clear that there was a need for a presence in the territory
offering an easily accessible point or person of contact to foster better mutual understanding (among residents and between organizations/associations)
share information related to the district (activities
This need took shape with the opening of three "district cafés," one in Molino Nuovo
with weekly meetings in each district and free participation
The regularity and frequency of these meetings are intended to facilitate access and participation
active since October 2017 in Molino Nuovo and Pregassona
have seen the active participation of the Commissions of the two districts involved
meetings continued in Molino Nuovo and Breganzona
Below are details on the meetings currently planned for 2024
Nell’ambito del Progetto Quartieri della Città di Lugano
verranno riproposti a partire da mercoledì 4 settembre i laboratori creativi per i bambini e i momenti di socializzazione per gli adulti a Cassarate e a Molino Nuovo
With the aim of promoting citizen participation in reflecting on existing spaces within the district
"laboratori di co-progettazione urbana" (urban co-design workshops) were developed in collaboration with an architecture studio specialized in participatory processes (Studio It's)
The idea was to engage small groups of residents in the "imaginary" design of small urban spaces in their district
The first workshops were held in October 2017 with a group of children from the after-school program in the Pregassona district
and the same initiative was proposed at an after-school program in Molino Nuovo in spring 2018
