In order to meet the growing public interest in the building ensemble built by Bauhaus director Hannes Meyer and Hans Wittwer and the associated increase in visitor numbers, the town of Bernau launched a competition for the visitor center at the end of 2017. As an innovative and identity-creating building, the new visitor center should on the one hand be subordinate to the monument ensemble, but on the other hand, also assert itself as a high-quality urban architectural structure. © Brigida GonzálezThe roof construction which appears heavy due to the materiality of the insulating concrete paradoxically seems to float above the building Barely building that is realized in order to attract more visitors and meet the growing number of visitors in the town of Bernau after the Bauhaus Monument “Bundesschule Bernau” was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in summer 2017 The single-story building has a linear layout and wrapped floor-to-ceiling glazing to showcase exhibitions inside All functional modules are hidden in concrete volumes while some concrete wall separations act as display of objects “As an innovative and identity-creating building the new visitor center should on the one hand be subordinate to the monument ensemble also assert itself as a high-quality urban architectural structure,” said Steimle Architekten “It forms the prelude to an appropriate experience of the World Heritage Site and introduces visitors to the theme of this special place.”  The building is integrated into the landscape of the pine forest in front of it the building is described as “a pavilion” that provides a first view of the architectural monument guided by the long-stemmed pines of the forest.  the pavilion constitutes a linear moment that draws attention to the ADGB Bundesschule (Federal School) within the wooded landscape.  Together with the lofty trees and an inviting entry terrace this building creates a unity that combines prelude and a place of repose with a specific quality.  The horizontality of the existing structures is taken up and transferred to the pavilion.  thus allowing a clear view while at the same time creating a very welcoming atmosphere by the subtle intensification of the interior. The interior space opens out onto the forecourt with an inviting raised entry zone that serves as the arrival point for visitors The studio enhances the spatial configuration based on a sequence of experiences referencing an analogy to the effects that Hannes Meyer called “psychological effects.” These are “intended to emphasize the physically temporal dimension of the architecture,” according to the studio Steimle Architekten conceives the building as a linear moment in the form of a simple stationary structure The building is slightly elevated from the forest level and welcomes the visitor via a spacious reception terrace.  acts like a “welcoming gesture,” inviting visitors to enter in.  While the building is glazed almost on all sides it provides sufficient space to experience the special atmosphere and to linger.  the building assumes its functions of welcoming and providing an open flowing sequence of rooms which occupies the entire length of the building is in constant visual contact with the listed building,” claim the architects.  Steimle Architekten prefers to devise a specific design language that is inspired and reflected by the graphic systems and technical equipment of the Trade Union School and achieves an independent aesthetic by following its function. The roof of the building appears heavy due to the materiality of the insulating concrete while paradoxically seems to float above the building.  and the wall panels of the ancillary rooms contribute decisively to this static balancing act.  This construction system as well as the exact execution of the shell with the horizontal formwork pattern of the rough-sawn boards give the building its special and independent character Project: Visitor Center Trade Union Pacing (29 November‒2 December Italy) for his presentation of the final outcomes of the SELECT-LV clinical trial of the WiSE (Wireless Stimulation of the Endocardium) CRT System (EBR Systems) The final results of the European prospective demonstrated the feasibility and promising efficacy of the WiSE CRT System for heart failure treatment SELECT-LV enrolled 39 failed cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) patients who were classified as untreated Butter reported a 97.1% successful implant rate He noted that from the 39 patients enrolled three patients failed screening and one patient withdrew pre-implant biventricular pacing was demonstrated in 33 of 34 patients (97.1%) and in 31 of 33 patients (93.9%) at six months 66.7% of patients showed improvement in one or more than one New York Heart Association (NYHA) class; 52% of patients improved left ventricular (LV) end systolic volume in ≥15%; 62.5% of patients demonstrated ≥5% increase in ejection fraction and 84.8% of patients showed improvement in their clinical composite score There were three adverse events in three patients (8.6%) peri-operatively and nine adverse events in nine patients (25.7%) by one-month follow-up “this multicentre experience demonstrated the feasibility of wireless LV endocardial pacing; thereby providing new hope to patients with previous CRT failure,” Butter said The CE marked WiSE CRT System provides wireless LV stimulation The system includes a sub-muscularly implanted transmitter and a wireless electrode implanted on the LV endocardial free wall The transmitter emits an ultrasonic pulse synchronised with the right ventricular pacing pulse; the electrode converts the ultrasonic energy into electrical energy to achieve synchronous biventricular pacing Final results of the SELECT-LV clinical trial were also presented in 2016 at the Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Sessions (HRS; 4‒7 May USA) and CARDIOSTIM-EHRA EUROPACE (8‒11 June your new go-to podcast to spice up on Saturday evening in Bernau the Federal Prosecutor's Office said in a statement The prosecutor’s office said the suspect was a Libyan national whom they identified only as Omar A “He intended to carry out a high-profile attack with firearms on the Israeli Embassy in Berlin,” the statement said “the accused exchanged information with a member of IS in a messenger chat,” referring to the militant Sunni group Islamic State Security forces also searched the home of another person who is considered a witness and not a suspect Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said that German security authorities "struck in time to thwart possible plans to attack the Israeli Embassy in Berlin." “This shows that protecting Jewish and Israeli institutions in our country is vital and of the utmost importance to us,” she added The suspect was expected to be brought before an investigating judge at the country’s highest court Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor thanked the German security authorities “for ensuring the security of our embassy,” dpa reported News of the case first came from the Bild newspaper which reported that a heavily armed elite police unit stormed the suspect’s home in Bernau It said German authorities acted after receiving a tipoff from an unspecified foreign intelligence agency “We are acting with the utmost vigilance and attention in view of the high threat posed by Islamist antisemitic and anti-Israel violence,” Faeser said Some Burger King restaurants in Germany have been shut down after a TV investigation said that they served out-of-date products and cooked vegan patties in the same oil as chicken In an episode by German TV series "Team Wallraff," titled "Disgust and Scandals," undercover reporters worked at a number of Burger King restaurants in Germany supplemented with interviews with former workers sauce bottles with expired contents were being topped up with new sauce without being emptied and washed in between including some a week past their expiry date An anonymous former Burger King worker who'd been at the chain for multiple years told the TV show that the expiry times on fresh products at her restaurant were continually pushed back until the product had been used up She said that some bread buns that were three months out of date and had started to grow mold were served to customers Guests also wrote in online reviews that they got stomach problems and tried to return food because it didn't look right The undercover reporter in Bernau bei Berlin also found that sometimes staff would handle food without washing their hands after coming in from outside and after touching the floor and would also use their dirty hands to take fries and nuggets to snack on from batches of food being served to customers The former worker said that in many cases staff didn't wash their hands after smoking and simply continued preparing food with unclean hands and without wearing gloves Burger King Deutschland said in a lengthy statement that it took the accusations "very seriously" per an Insider translation The statement added that the company didn't tolerate the violation of its standards It said it was planning measures together with its franchisees and would be shortly setting up a whistleblower hotline for staff with concerns The burger giant also said that it had temporarily closed the five restaurants featured in the show and had carried out an external audit of all its 750 restaurants spokesperson for Burger King International Markets told Insider that "clear training and operating standards are a top priority" at the company "Whenever we see an example of our strict standards not being followed we accept the accountability of needing to train better and manage more thoroughly," she said a new master franchise owner took accountability for the market months after many of the recent issues were identified," McIntyre continued "The audits confirmed that the isolated and unacceptable examples cited do not reflect the very strong operations of most restaurants in the country." the new franchisee had already been implementing "important steps," including hiring a new head of operations and of training and introducing new training modules "The findings of the reporters in Germany in 5 restaurants do not reflect the very strong standards that the very large majority of our Team Members execute well every day in Germany and around the world," McIntyre added The show also featured video footage shot by a worker in a Burger King in the Saxon-Anhalt region showing maggots crawling on the kitchen floor after escaping the food-waste bin The worker said that staff had to take maggots out of the kitchen every day in summer An undercover reporter in the city of Cologne saw a mouse in the kitchen and found piles of mouse feces in two locations in the restaurant the reporter said they found a burger bun that had clearly been nibbled by an animal A former worker at a Burger King restaurant in Cologne told the show that their store was plagued by mice The only thing missing was the Burger King uniforms," the former worker said adding that: "They were definitely more than us [people]." The kitchen also used a haphazard system to distinguish between meat and vegan products and she witnessed a colleague put a meat patty in a burger even though meat had already come into contact with the bun One former Burger King worker told the show that staff substituted real chicken patties for plant-based ones when their restaurant ran out and wrapped them in the packaging used for plant-based products while another said normal nuggets were sometimes sold as vegan ones A technological breakthrough and a little-acknowledged bellwether of Modernism Few types of industrial design embody its rote seemed to understand this when he invented some of the earliest examples of task lighting in 1919 his first designs were the result of intense almost ontological contemplation of human behavior and the prescriptions of context from the slightly asymmetrical lampshade that mimics a worker’s deskside slouch to the punctilious placement of arms and selection of axial joints Those initial products kicked off what has become an omnipresent but often overlooked lighting typology “The driving force behind the development of adjustable light in the 1920s and ’30s was its use in factories and workshops,” says Thomas Edelmann, journalist and curator of the roving exhibition 100 Years of Positionable Light: The Origin and Relevance of Adjustable Lighting, currently on show at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg the typology enjoyed a synergistic reverence for industry with the nascent Bauhaus then coursing through the beginnings of corporate work culture and today continues its ubiquity in interiors Countering the trouble some shadows cast by overhead lighting positionables did indeed take root in the studio and workshop but quickly made their way into all sorts of less-demanding settings The exhibition assembles dozens of adjustable lights paying Midgard its due for antecedence and prominence in that history but also includes important designs from the likes of Artemide and Kandem (the latter two companies produced adjustables that arguably predate Fischer’s) and social shifts is thus nestled within the esoteric and abstruse trajectory of task lighting is still being refined and retold (though Edelmann says the advent of neon tubes in the postwar era nearly made adjustable lighting superfluous) Munich-based designers Stefan Diez and Lina Fischer created Midgard’s first new design in decades a thinstemmed Calder-esque lamp called Ayno But despite its contemporary flair and more appealing colors what makes Ayno remarkable is its formal and functional similarity to its centenarian ancestors—“entirely in the spirit of Curt Fischer,” comments Midgard owner David Einsiedler You may also enjoy “10 Minimal Light Fixtures That Turn Technology into Poetry.” Would you like to comment on this article? its acquisition of Arctic Cat Textron Specialized Vehicles (TSV) announced three big moves the company is making to improve efficiency.  the company revealed it would be closing the former Minneapolis headquarters for Arctic Cat moving engine production from Germany to St and moving Stampede side-by-side vehicle production from Augusta “A big piece of the puzzle remaining was how to really optimize our operational footprint so that we can operate more efficiently and better serve our customers The changes that we announced [May 9] were really to achieve those goals,” Brandon Haddock director of Communications for TSV told Powersports Business “We took a long time deliberating the decisions but we really needed to make some changes to make sure we were using the facilities at our disposal as efficiently as we could in order to design and build product faster and get it to our customers more quickly.” The closure of the Minneapolis office was somewhat expected Arctic Cat had moved into the 55,000-square-foot facility in Minneapolis’ North Loop warehouse district in August Arctic Cat leased the building because the staff size had grown too large for the former 11,000-square-foot space in nearby Plymouth expected the new location to attract fresh talent The space had room for the Arctic Cat headquarters to grow to 150-200 employees but only about 60 are currently working there.  “We looked at a lot of scenarios regarding our facility in Minneapolis whether it made sense to downsize the physical footprint of that facility or find another facility but ultimately we just determined that the best case is to really consolidate our operations in St but it also allows us to really co-locate a lot of employees across our engineering teams our product management and development teams so that those folks work closely together and in close proximity to one another and can collaborate much more efficiently.” Haddock reported that very few jobs in Minneapolis were affected as a majority of those employees have chosen to take their positions to St “The vast majority of employees in Minneapolis will have the opportunity to continue their careers with the company in St There’s a lot of talented people that come to work in that facility every day and we want to keep them on board,” he said.  In addition to gaining the former Minneapolis employees Cloud facility will also be adding more engine production TSV announced that it is closing its engine manufacturing plant in Bernau bei Berlin “That was really a decision driven by sort of the economic realities and operational efficiencies of not really needing two individual engine production plants There’s plenty of operational capacity for St and it just really doesn’t make a lot of sense to maintain two separate engine production facilities when we have one very very close to where the vehicles will be produced so we’re getting those engines that much closer to the units that they’re going to be installed in from an efficiency standpoint,” Haddock said.  Cloud facility manufactures and assembles two- and four-stroke snowmobile engines Arctic Cat in 2015 invested $400,000 to expand the assembly capability in St The move by TSV will add 50-100 jobs in St though an undisclosed number of jobs were lost in Bernau bei Berlin TSV acquired the Germany facility when it acquired Weber Motor in 2014 and renamed the division Textron Motors While the Bernau bei Berlin factory will close engine design and engineering will remain in Markdorf Cloud coincides with a decision to move production of all Stampede models to Thief River Falls “There’s plenty of capacity in Thief River Falls to take on that volume and it allows us to drive some more production demand through that plant on a year-round basis so we can operate more efficiently and effectively,” Haddock said.  TSV can also take advantage of the new paint line and other facility improvements that came as part of a $26 million investment into the Thief River Falls facility that Arctic Cat made in 2015 While adding Stampede production in Thief River Falls won’t open any additional job opportunities it will allow for year-round production.  “One of the cool things from the employee standpoint in Thief River and St Cloud is they are very excited for that production move to those areas because it extends their work season,” said Kale Wainer TSV marketing communications manager and 13-year Arctic Cat veteran Snowmobile production usually ends by roughly Thanksgiving side-by-side lines start up and down at various times of the year they’ll be able to work a steady schedule throughout the year which those employees are really excited about Production of all side-by-sides and ATVs under the Textron Off Road brand will also remain in Thief River Falls.  “We will invest pretty substantially in Thief River Falls to expand its production capabilities and continue to grow our business there,” Haddock said “Thief River Falls is a big part of who we are and it’s going to continue to be a big part of who we are.”  fewer than 10 people were laid off as a result of moving Stampede production from that facility to Minnesota.  “Many of the production workers who built the Stampede every day will be transferred to other production lines to help us produce Jacobsen turf care equipment and some of the other vehicle and equipment models that are built here in Augusta so we were able to minimize the impact and job losses from that move,” Haddock explained.  When TSV launched the Stampede in May 2016 the company also announced it had acquired a 240-acre 600,000-plus-square-foot facility near its Augusta headquarters While the Stampede has been produced out of that new building TSV already has plans for products that will move to the current Stampede production line.  “Although the Stampede production is moving away from that facility expansion we are already producing a number of other models in that facility The Jacobsen professional turf care equipment production of those models has moved from Charlotte (North Carolina) to Augusta and continues to be relocated from Charlotte to Augusta over the course of the year We have moved some of our legacy production lines from our legacy campus to that facility so that we can free up room here in Augusta to really expand our fabrication capabilities to serve all of our different product lines And we have a substantial aftermarket and service parts warehouse operation there in that facility There’s plenty of work going into that new facility even though we’re moving the Stampede to Thief River Falls,” Haddock said.  All three of the newly announced changes are expected to be completed by the end of 2017 Haddock said dealers should see no change in the delivery of their units.  and website in this browser for the next time I comment Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" We are using cookies to give you the best experience on our website The French president, Emmanuel Macron, appointed Gabriel Attal as France’s new prime minister. The move came after the president decided to replace Élisabeth Borne, and she resigned yesterday. The reshuffle is widely seen as part of Macron’s effort to reinvigorate a difficult second term as president ahead of European elections in June. Attal, who was serving as France’s education minister, is a popular figure. At 34, he is the youngest prime minister in modern French history. Attal is also France’s first openly gay prime minister. Macron’s allies welcomed the move, and foreign leaders congratulated Attal. Some of the French leadership’s domestic critics said Macron was merely trying to benefit from Attal’s popularity and that the new prime minister would merely function as a spokesperson. Nothing. Tired of this puerile ballet of ambitions and egos, they are waiting for a plan that puts them back at the heart of public priorities. She said the road to change would begin on 9 June, the date of the European parliament election. Que peuvent espérer les Français de ce 4e Premier ministre et de ce 5e gouvernement en sept ans ? Austria’s former leader, Sebastian Kurz, became chancellor at only 31 in 2017. Finland’s former prime minister, Sanna Marin, took over the role at 34, back in 2019. Others were also relatively young when they first won high-profile posts: Hungary’s Viktor Orbán was 35 when he became prime minister for the first time in 1998. And Ireland’s Leo Varadkar was 38 when he first became the country’s leader, as was Estonia’s former prime minister, Jüri Ratas. Emmanuel Macron was 39 when he became France’s president.
