Pictet Alternative Advisors (PAA) and independent investment and asset manager Scantum DW have bought a circa 20,000 m2 logistics property in Germany’s Rhine-Main area from Branicks Group in an off-market transaction
The property is located in Hochheim am Main
and is fully let. After the remaining leases expire
PAA and Scantum DW plan to upgrade the property into a Grade A logistics asset by way of partial demolition and new development
This will affect the approximately 70% of the existing asset that was built in the 1970s
with the remainder built in the 2000s to be refurbished
The project has been underwritten to DGNB Gold standards and
the asset will be heated without fossil fuels
Scantum DW will take over the operational implementation and marketing of the space
head of Germany & Benelux Real Estate at Pictet Alternative Advisors
said: ‘We are very pleased to have secured this value-add opportunity in such a strong location with the ability to create a long-term sustainable asset
‘European logistics in strategic last-mile locations remain a high-conviction sector for us
fuelled by continuing demand and strong fundamentals
‘This transaction provides us with an asset located in the heart of the Rhine Main area
making it perfect for urban distribution and an ideal base for further acquisitions with similar strategies
I look forward to seeing the property’s true potential once our refurbishment programme is complete.’
Pictet now has two logistics assets in Germany
The transaction marks Pictet’s second purchase in Germany
after earlier acquiring a 20,000 m2 logistics asset in North Rhine Westphalia close to the Dutch border
Geldmann added: ‘Germany is a key strategic market for our value-add strategy
Having been extremely prudent during a challenging period for the country’s real-estate market – we only made our first German investment in August 2024 after several years of scrutinising opportunities there – we are now seeing much more compelling entry points for some very attractive assets.’
said: ‘The excellent location in the Rhine Main area convinced us all
We will be developing a very modern and sustainable logistics property in the coming months in order to be able to offer tenants from various sectors flexible logistics rental space.’
Pictet and Scantum DW were advised by Greenberg Traurig

Bringing German flavor to the Orange o-line
It’s time to start preparing for the 2024 Syracuse Orange football season
We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces to kick off the Fran Brown Era
High School/Previous College: Graf-Stauffenberg-Gymnasium/Ellsworth Community College
2023 stats: Started 11 games at right tackle and appeared in every contest
Petry allowed three sacks and a quarterback hit in 758 offensive snaps
2024 projections: The big fella will have to hold off some new transfers to see starting action at the right tackle spot if David Wohlabaugh Jr. isn’t 100% by Week 1
expect Petry to be the next man up if a lineman goes down with an injury
How’d he get here?: Played one season at Ellsworth CC in Iowa before moving to the Orange
He was initially committed to Eastern Michigan before de-committing for SU
Chose Syracuse over other offers from UMass
What’d recruiting sites say?: Two stars from 247Sports, ESPN and rivals.com
He was the #34 offensive tackle recruit in the 247Sports JUCO rankings

Zevra to receive a 2025 New Treatment Award for MIPLYFFA™ at the 21st Annual WORLDSymposium
Eight abstracts discussing data and clinical experience associated with MIPLYFFA accepted for poster presentation
with one poster selected for oral presentation by Dr
2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Zevra Therapeutics
a commercial-stage rare disease therapeutics company
today announced that eight abstracts discussing data and clinical experience associated with MIPLYFFA™ (MY-PLY-FAH) (arimoclomol) have been accepted for poster presentation at the 21st Annual WORLDSymposium™
One poster discussing efficacy results from a 12-month double-blind randomized trial of arimoclomol on the re-scored 4-domain Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) Clinical Severity Score (R4DNPCCSS) has been selected for oral presentation by Dr
MIPLYFFA is indicated for use in combination with miglustat for the treatment of neurological manifestations of NPC in adult and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older
the Company will receive a 2025 New Treatment Award for MIPLYFFA
The New Treatment Award recognizes important achievements in advancing the treatment of lysosomal diseases for products receiving regulatory approval
“The recent FDA approval of MIPLYFFA underscores the persistence required to overcome regulatory challenges and to deliver treatments to people living with rare and ultra-rare diseases,” said Adrian Quartel
“We are honored to receive a 2025 New Treatment Award
WORLDSymposium’s recognition of MIPLYFFA is a testament to the unwavering devotion of physicians
and people living with NPC who have heroically championed MIPLYFFA.”
E-Posters will be available to all registered attendees via the WORLDSymposium mobile app beginning at 05:00 PST on Tuesday
and will remain accessible throughout the live meeting
On-Demand registered attendees can access e-Posters from Feb
Members of Zevra’s team will be available at the meeting which takes place Feb
CA; attendees are invited to visit Zevra at its commercial and medical booth (#206)
and all others who are interested in learning more about the latest discoveries related to lysosomal diseases and the clinical investigation of these advances
WORLDSymposium presents the latest information from basic science
and clinical trials for lysosomal diseases
MIPLYFFA (arimoclomol) increases the activation of the transcription factors EB (TFEB) and E3 (TFE3) resulting in the upregulation of coordinated lysosomal expression and regulation (CLEAR) genes
MIPLYFFA has also been shown to reduce unesterified cholesterol in the lysosomes of human NPC fibroblasts
The clinical significance of these findings is not fully understood
MIPLYFFA halted disease progression compared to placebo over the one-year duration of the trial when measured by the only validated disease progression measurement tool
MIPLYFFA was granted Breakthrough Therapy designation
and Fast Track designation by the FDA for the treatment of NPC
MIPLYFFA was further granted Orphan Medicinal Product designation by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the treatment of NPC
MIPLYFFA is indicated for use in combination with miglustat for the treatment of neurological manifestations of Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) in adult and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older
Hypersensitivity Reactions:Hypersensitivity reactions such as urticaria and angioedema have been reported in patients treated with MIPLYFFA during Trial 1: two patients reported both urticaria and angioedema (6%) and one patient (3%) experienced urticaria alone within the first two months of treatment
Discontinue MIPLYFFA in patients who develop severe hypersensitivity reactions
If a mild or moderate hypersensitivity reaction occurs
Monitor the patient until signs and symptoms resolve
Embryofetal Toxicity:MIPLYFFA may cause embryofetal harm when administered during pregnancy based on findings from animal reproduction studies
Advise pregnant females of the potential risk to the fetus and consider pregnancy planning and prevention for females of reproductive potential
Increased Creatinine without Affecting Glomerular Function: Across clinical trials of MIPLYFFA
mean increases in serum creatinine of 10% to 20% compared to baseline were reported
These increases occurred mostly in the first month of MIPLYFFA treatment and were not associated with changes in glomerular function
use alternative measures that are not based on creatinine to assess renal function
Increases in creatinine reversed upon MIPLYFFA discontinuation
The most common adverse reactions in Trial 1 (≥15%) in MIPLYFFA-treated patients who also received miglustat were upper respiratory tract infection
Three (6%) of the MIPLYFFA-treated patients had the following adverse reactions that led to withdrawal from Trial 1: increased serum creatinine (one patient)
and progressive urticaria and angioedema (two patients)
Serious adverse reactions reported in MIPLYFFA-treated patients were hypersensitivity reactions including urticaria and angioedema
To report SUSPECTED ADVERSE REACTIONS, contact Zevra Therapeutics, Inc. at toll-free phone 1-844-600-2237 or FDA at 1‑800-FDA-1088 or www.fda.gov/medwatch
Drug Interaction(s): Arimoclomol is an inhibitor of the organic cationic transporter 2 (OCT2) transporter and may increase the exposure of drugs that are OCT2 substrates
When MIPLYFFA is used concomitantly with OCT2 substrates
monitor for adverse reactions and reduce the dosage of the OCT2 substrate
Use in Females and Males of Reproductive Potential: Based on animal findings
MIPLYFFA may impair fertility and may increase post-implantation loss and reduce maternal
Renal Impairment: The recommended dosage of MIPLYFFA
in patients with an eGFR ≥15 mL/minute to <50 mL/minute is lower than the recommended dosage (less frequent dosing) in patients with normal renal function
MIPLYFFA capsules for oral use are available in the following strengths: 47 mg
Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is an ultra-rare
and neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorder characterized by an inability of the body to transport cholesterol and other lipids within the cell
leading to an accumulation of these substances in various cell types
The disease is caused by mutations in the NPC1 or NPC2 genes
which are responsible for making the NPC1 and NPC2 lysosomal proteins
Both children and adults can be affected by NPC with varying clinical presentations
Those living with NPC can lose independence due to physical and cognitive limitations
with key neurological impairments presenting in speech
with disease progression being irreversible and often leading to early mortality
is a commercial-stage rare disease company combining science
and patient needs to create transformational therapies for diseases with limited or no treatment options
Our mission is to bring life-changing therapeutics to people living with rare diseases
data-driven development and commercialization strategies
the Company is overcoming complex drug development challenges to make new therapies available to the rare disease community

was again the top story from the action at King's Resort in Rozvadov
Hissou roughly doubled the 657,000 in chips he held at the start of Sunday's play
finishing the evening at 1,353,000 and atop the counts
as seven other players also bagged over a million in chips
Just behind Hissou is Czechia's own Patrik Jaros
and Serbia's Vlada Stojanovic finished the day in third at 1,211,000
Three prior bracelet winners -- Stanislav Zegal
and Roman Hrabec -- also finished Day 2 with a top-11 stack
with plenty of star power lurking lower in the counts
The 185 players still in the battle at night's end were the survivors from 412 players who bagged on Day 1a or 1b
plus several dozen max-late-registering players who entered at the start of Day 2 play
116 of Day 3's returning players will make it into the money at some point later in the day
Registration for the WSOPE Main Event closed with 768 entrants
Other notables who survived the day's action included Martin Zamani (18th)
who denied Foxen a bracelet earlier in the series
The list of Day 2 bustouts was every bit as impressive
Among those not returning to the Main Event's Day 3 were Omar Eljach
2024 World Series of Poker Main Event -- Day 2 Top 10 Chip Counts:
The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) crowned a new champion Wednesday after the final six players in the €10,350 Main Event NLH European Championship battled down to a winner
Simone Andrian stood alone atop the winner's podium
For those who missed the action on the WSOP YouTube channel
Following Tuesday's action
which saw the eliminations of Fabian Gumz (9th)
Italy's Andrian started final table proceedings with a commanding chip lead
was the only player even close to Andrian in the chip counts
but his 78BBs still left him with a lot of ground to make up
Starting third in the counts was Poland's Mariusz Golinski
The bottom half of the counts saw Israel's Ran Ilani on a stack of 32BBs
firmly ahead of Germany's David Hochheim (23BBs) and Italy's Enrico Camosci (18BBs).
Camosci was the first to find himself all-in and at risk when his ran into Velvelt's
Camosci added flush outs to his survival options
but the turn and river failed to provide the cards he needed and his day ended in a sixth-place finish.
After managing to find a full double through the chip leader
Hochheim went up against Andrian once again in a blind versus blind confrontation
Andrian raised from the small blind and Hochheim moved all-in from the big blind
The German's needed to improve against the Italian's
but the runout didn't connect with his holding
and his run ended in a fifth-place finish.
Andrian notched another elimination when he raised preflop with
only to see an all-in from Golinski behind him
Andrian made the call and had his opponent's dominated
Golinski was drawing incredibly thin on the flop
but the brought hope in the form of a gutshot straight draw
but not in the way Golinski needed and his Main Event story ended in a fourth-place finish.
It was a blind versus blind confrontation that saw Ilani head for the payout desk as well
Velvelt's raise from the small blind with led to a re-raise from Ilani in the big blind
Velvelt opted for a small four-bet before Ilani moved all-in
The Estonian made the call and saw Ilani turn over his as the two players headed to a runout in one of poker's classic flips
The kept Velvelt's hand best and Ilani's run came to an end in a third-place finish.
[we're] flipping for a lot of money I guess in those big pots
I'm just enjoying the moment and appreciating it
The heads-up battle between Andrian and Velvelt lasted over three hours as both players fought hard to lay claim to the coveted Main Event bracelet
Velvelt began proceedings with a slight edge over his opponent in the chip counts
but the swings of the format saw the lead trade hands multiple times.
Velvelt's aggression saw him take a sizable lead at one point
but Andrian made an impressive call with top pair on a connected board to seize the advantage
The final hand saw the Italian raise from the button with
Velvelt looked down at and put in a three-bet
and Velvelt pounced on what he perceived as weakness with another raise
Andrian quickly called and the cards were on their backs
Velvelt needed to connect with a three-outer
but the flop kept Andrian's hand well ahead
The turn brought in outs to a chop for the Estonian
but the river kept Andrian best and his rail burst into celebratory chants
Andrian held aloft the WSOP Europe Main Event bracelet.
When asked about plans for his celebration
"Not now because I will go to play poker in another location."

As he settles in for his interview with The CEO Magazine at his desk in Cologne
Mirko Ostendoerfer reaches into his bag for something important
“So this is the original Spice Girls shoe with the original signatures,” he says, proudly brandishing a chunky Buffalo platform trainer worn by a member of the iconic girl band
Mirko knows his stuff; he held several Managing Director roles throughout his career in the industry before becoming COO of Buffalo Boots in 2017 and CEO two years later
He discovered this 90s artefact shortly after the company was acquired by the German footwear retailer Deichmann
just sitting there with a lot of dust on it,” he recalls
This is such an important thing from the past!’”
The distinctive shoe won global fame adorning the feet of Ginger
helping the Buffalo brand approach a level occupied by Dr
Which is to say: the moment you saw the shoe’s design
you knew who made it without seeing the logo
“We managed to take this heritage 90s culture from rave and so on and transmit it into today and express ourselves with authenticity.”
But in the years after girl power swept the globe
even as the family-owned company continued to produce the trainers from its base in Germany’s Hochheim am Main
with Buffalo shoes appearing on catwalks and red carpets around the world amid a wider revival of 90s culture and fashion
“We managed to take this heritage 90s culture from rave and so on and transmit it into today and express ourselves with authenticity,” Mirko says
As excited as he was to come into possession of an iconic shoe autographed by the Spice Girls
Mirko also recognised early on that the brand itself was in dire need of an update to make it appeal to younger consumers
and they don’t know about Buffalo’s history
about the Spice Girls – they’re not interested in it
But we managed to bring the brand back to life.”
When the brand’s revival started more than four years ago
the company gifted its shoes to the likes of singer Billie Eilish and model Gigi Hadid
who then wore them while being photographed by paparazzi
“They wear our shoes because they love the shoes
and we did not pay one cent for it,” Mirko says
“This is the most important thing for us: to be authentic
because the community recognises very fast whether you do something paid or unpaid.”
Something that’s causing a stir in the community – and the greater footwear industry – at the moment are NFTs
The digital collectible format has already been embraced by the sneaker scene
with Asics releasing an entire NFT collection of digital sneakers in 2021
Mirko says it was an obvious step for Buffalo to take
“We’ve teamed up with digital fashion house The Fabricant to create a digital-only flaming virtual trainer that can only be ‘worn’ in images for social media,” he says
the trainer was offered as a limited NFT for fashion lovers
the company has also collaborated with top designers like Vivienne Westwood and Junya Watanabe
a strategy Mirko plans to continue and sees as a key pillar of growth
Mirko sees a big opportunity in expanding Buffalo’s online shop
Internet sales represent about a 17 per cent share of the business
but the plan is for that to grow to 30 per cent over the next three years
The company will also extend its licensee business
socks and even fragrances via these licensing agreements
“We’re still looking for partners for sunglasses and bags,” Mirko says
I haven’t found an international partner who is doing this
so this is one area I want to really concentrate on.”
There is also plenty of room left for geographical expansion – something that was stifled by the COVID-19 pandemic
“We had partners before the pandemic who wanted to start
and then the pandemic happened and it was all postponed.”
While the pandemic has taken a harsh toll on the retail and apparel industries
Mirko is grateful that it strengthened Buffalo’s good partnerships and exposed the bad ones
“What was really interesting during the pandemic was to see who are the real partners and who are the fake partners,” he says
“Some accounts just looked after themselves and said
But others worked hard with the company to start a dialogue about how to move forward in ways that minimised the impact for everyone
agreeing to cancel an order but still committing to buy the fabric a supplier had already purchased and use it later
but now I think we’ve found the right partners to work with and grow with.”
retailers agreed with Buffalo to postpone rather than cancel orders
but now I think we’ve found the right partners to work with and grow with
This is very important for me,” Mirko says
The company and its people made it through the tough early days of the pandemic with the help of what it calls a culture of boldness
take responsibility and dare to be curious
with forward-thinking and by creating beyond the limits of the ordinary,” Mirko explains
embracing awareness and living diversity – being one team

Liebe auf den ersten Blick: when you see someone and think
I saw the view and I saw Cape Town and I thought
They had come to Cape Town at the invitation of her friends
a German couple who had bought a little house in Bloubergstrand and moved there
But in spite of her feelings about Kastien’s property-purchasing predilections
the girlfriend became his wife and they had two sons
They used the beach flat for holidays; her job at Lufthansa facilitated discounted flights
Kastien owned and ran a petrol station in Hochheim am Main
a little wine town in a German wine region called the Rheingau (Rhine District)
Kastien attended a function in Constantia and met Dave McKay
McKay didn’t have a presence in the German market and asked Kastien if he wanted to export his wines
While Kastien was certainly “a wine drinker and wine lover”
he had never worked in the wine industry bar childhood school holiday grape harvesting jobs
But McKay said he would give all of his German customers Kastien’s number
The first pallet of Uitsig wines – 600 bottles – sold out in four weeks
“Because I was there three to four times a year
a busy boulevard flanked by trees and lined with upscale boutiques in Wiesbaden
a city of about 280,000 people and the state capital of Hesse
There he sold kudu leather furniture in addition to the wine of four estates
came to visit and they had a winemaker’s evening
After a while Kastien decided to give the wine biz a go full-time
The petrol station was a 24-hour operation and he wanted a healthier lifestyle
The first order of business was to find a shipping agent
“Everybody wants to rip you off in the beginning
The next step was to buy overproduction from top farms and create his own brand
made up largely of 4-4.5 star Platter reds
Then Kastien met the woman who would become his second wife at a friend’s braai in Germany
Tanja had never been to South Africa so Kastien invited her to spend time with him in his flat
this is my country’.” Tanja was working in the pharmaceutical industry and they continued to travel to South Africa several times a year
I’ve got an idea,” Kastien recalls her saying one day
For three years while Tanja and their son Raphael stayed in Cape Town
Kastien would travel back and forth to Wiesbaden: spending two weeks a month in each city
They enjoyed Franschhoek and decided to move there
flying to Germany for every chemotherapy session
“The worst thing was to get that news because everything was in place
a PhD – her dream – and my business was actually running itself.”
They managed to treat the cancer and the Kastiens returned to South Africa to recuperate
This time they discovered cancer in her liver and four weeks later she died in a hospital in Paarl
I had to make a decision: what’s the plan for the future?” He decided to return to Germany and apart from a short trip to sort things out soon after Tanja died
although he plans to resume commuting every three months for business
In May last year he had a heart attack and wasn’t permitted to fly for at least six months
I did it once after Tanja passed away; I went to Cape Town and I was driving the N1 from Blouberg to Franschhoek
If you drive a highway every time with your partner since two years
In his shop now
which moved 12 years ago to Grabenstrasse in the downtown pedestrian zone of Wiesbaden
I get sent samples to taste.” Every two months a few pallets are brought in
He follows the industry awards and tries to get the winners of local competitions
He has personal relationships with a handful of farm owners such as Gerard Holden and Migo Manz (of Holden Manz)
Former Gabrielskloof winemaker Kobie Viljoen “taught me the most important things I have to know”
I’ve got a small selection because I know who’s got the best Chenin
Three years ago he started his own production in Franschhoek
In Switzerland he had tasted a white Merlot
he recruited a local winemaker to make a version for the shop
Some of it went into new barrels and some into tanks and they blended them
Kastien only drinks South African wine if he can help it
despite living next door to the Rheingau – Wiesbaden’s answer to Stellenbosch
Franschhoek and Paarl – where there are about 580 Riesling producers
He’s particularly keen on heavily-wooded Chardonnay and Shiraz
“We found out that a lot of older people now have moved from the Riesling high acidity to more fruit-driven wines
Chenin Blanc or Chardonnay is a perfect solution.”
He’s also managed to secure the sole rights to sell Windhoek Lager
One of his best customers is a farmer from Namibia who is married to a German woman and spends part of the time in Frankfurt
Kastien served some of the farmer’s meat to friends at a braai to great fanfare
He now gets the meat at a wholesale price from the farmer and
sells it to his best customers at cost price
On a weekend, he moves about 50kg of roast beef, fillet, rib-eye and flank. “On a Saturday it’s like a supermarket here.” Saturday late afternoons are also drinks time at Procellar
when some of the handful of Saffers in town flock to the shop
Kastien sets up tables outside and sells wine by the glass
Windhoek and Savanna (he stocks Inverroche and Six Dogs gin and for €7.50
customers can mix and match with the two tonics he carries)
Customers had prevailed on him to sell them wine by the glass for a long time
So at the end of last year he applied for a licence from local government to rent the space outside
The wine menu changes every week and is usually dependent on the weather “and what I want to sell”
He endeavours to design a “wine route” with the menu
“I would like to give the South African vibration to the customer: good life
A lot of his regulars are on speed dial – a number of them board members of international companies living in town
They’ve got big bucks and big houses.” Typically Kastien will call them if he has a new wine in
Apart from the availability of direct flights and the two countries being in the same time zone
Kastien attributes the appeal of South Africa for Germans to the pricing
You’ve got everything what you need: you’ve got the mountains
you can do safari – you’ve got the animals
South Africa is the most beautiful country in the world
My dream one day will be to have my last years in South Africa
maybe: to stay healthy and going back to South Africa.” DM

German great and six-time Grand Slam winner Boris Becker has earned a huge name in the tennis world
he has tried to give back to the community in different ways
One of them was to build a tennis academy where young German players could practice and hone their skills
has taken a backseat due to lack of sufficient funds for its planned construction
Boris has now come forward to help the cause with a heartfelt gesture
the city council at Hochheim am Main in Germany greenlighted the project of building the Boris Becker International Tennis Academy
The German himself kicked off the construction of this project
“It is great that the plans were carried out despite the coronavirus menace
It is therefore a small miracle that we are here today despite the pandemic,” Boris said
The first hall of the academy was opened in November 2021
But its construction has been at a standstill for a while now due to the lack of budget
extravagant hotels and player accommodations are not available yet
Boris Becker has made a decision to lessen the academy’s burden
The former World No.1 wants to make sure the bills get paid regarding the project’s completion
the overall situation is not looking good for the academy
there’s a need of new buyers and investors who will put money into the project
“We are currently checking and planning with all partners which parts of the original construction concept are still future-proof
and where adjustments may have to be made,” reported Blick
he may prepare for a new role soon as the coach of Alexander Zverev
the latter has one major condition for Becker
Until then, Zverev will continue to travel with his parents. On tours, they accompany him as part of his team. The pack will be seen during the upcoming Australian Open as well. After that, it will be intriguing to see whether Zverev will try to associate with Boris. Do you think their partnership will prove effective if it materalises at all?
