The Catalan CRAM foundation, focused on recovering and preserving sea animals, released four sea turtles back to the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday from the El Prat de Llobregat beach. The 'Return home' event saw dozens of curious people take part in many activities for all family members, such as an information point, crafts related to preserving sea life, and a turtle rescue simulation. However, the main moment was the release back into the sea of turtles: Dana, Anna, Marinada, and Sira. Volunteers returned the four animals from the Caretta caretta species in front of hundreds of people. Among the attendees there was CRAM Foundation president Josep Lluís Pal. The organization was founded on April 22, 1996, but their activities started in 1991 when a viral illness attacked hundreds of dolphins. In the last 28 years, the foundation has helped over 1,200 sea turtles, 650 alive cetaceans stranded on beaches, and 240 sea birds. 1989) between 1949 and 1956 for Riccardo Gomis and Inés Bertrand It is a clear example of the adaptation of an abstract architectural concept to a very specific place and landscape The symbiosis between the house and the environment is developed through a one-story construction under the canopies of pine trees The transition from the natural landscape of the rest of the property to the central area of the house is achieved through a large horizontal platform that houses the garden treated with great restraint through grassy lawns pathways and paved areas with orthogonal lines which prolong the structure of the building the building has remained virtually intact having undergone a thorough restoration of the roofs and exterior woodwork in 1997 designed in great detail by the architect himself an element that is included in the declaration file as part of its history The building was declared a Cultural Property of National Interest (BCIN) in the category of “Historic Monuments” by the Generalitat of Catalonia on March 23 which is the highest degree of protection in Catalonia’s current historical heritage legislation The dwelling responds to the typology of the suburban villa common on the Catalan coast as the first or second residence of the upper middle class but in this case with unique characteristics in terms of scale It represents an almost unique example of Catalan upper middle-class housing in the mid-20th century and a meeting place for intellectuals and artists the result of architect Antoni Bonet’s collaboration with his client Ricardo Gomis a person involved in the Catalan cultural avant-garde as a member of Club 49 (an artistic association founded by members of the postwar Barcelona avant-garde) incorporates spaces for daily family life and personal service along with other multipurpose spaces for holding meetings or small cultural events it should be recognized that the house was one of the meeting places for Barcelona culture in the 1960s Casa Gomis thus becomes not only a unique building but also a place that allows us to understand the evolution of avant-garde cultures in Catalonia during the second half of the 20th century was one of the most important architects of rationalism in Catalonia a member of GATCPAC (Grupo d’Arquitectes i Tècnics Catalans per al Progrés de l’Arquitectura Contemporània) and GATEPAC (Grupo de Artistas y Técnicos Españoles para el Progreso de la Arquitectura Contemporánea) Settling in Buenos Aires after the Civil War he developed his career in Uruguay and Argentina although he also designed important works in several Spanish cities he combined the development of the postulates of European rationalist architecture with the exploration of his roots in the indigenous language of the Mediterranean area the juxtaposition of abstract forms and modern materials with references to traditional building systems Europe’s only true desert is in Spain where rainfall doesn’t reach 250 mm a year Many fear that the unique landscapes of this area could become common in a country where rain is increasingly scarce and water feels like a mirage Currently, Spain’s drought is experiencing one of the most severe peaks in the country’s recent history a crisis so deep that it has brought water reservoirs to critical levels shaking the country’s water resource management where reservoirs are filled to only 16% of their capacity It’s no coincidence that Barcelona has been home to Europe’s largest desalination plant since 2009 crucial for converting seawater into freshwater The El Prat de Llobregat plant can treat 200,000 cubic meters of water daily it provided 33% of the drinking water used by the metropolitan area Barcelona’s case is not unique, as the Spanish metropolis is emblematic of a country that has embraced desalination as a primary tool to address its water resource management challenges Spain is among the leading countries in desalination investment and ranks fourth worldwide in the volume of water treated with this technology 750 desalination plants are operational in Spain with a production capacity of between 10,000 and 250,000 m³/day The plan includes funding for two new desalination plants in Tordera and Foix, as well as the transfer of freshwater via ships from the Valencia region to Barcelona. According to the Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, state-owned company Acquamed will fund the construction of the two new plants, which are expected to be completed between 2028 and 2029. They argued that there were not enough studies on the matter.  The court also ruled that the ordinance surpassed the council's jurisdiction, and there were some deficiencies in the types of vehicles excluded from entering Barcelona.  As such, Barcelona City Council canceled 140,000 fines given to drivers who entered the city's low emission zone with old and polluting cars.  The fines add up to approximately €20.1 million.  v1.1.0. First published: February 17, 2025 12:23 PM The match between Catalan football club Espanyol and Bilbao's Athletic Club at the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà-El Prat de Llobregat was briefly interrupted after racist insults were directed at Athletic Club player Maroan Sannadi on Sunday.  The game resumed after three minutes, following LaLiga's anti-discrimination protocol which has been in place since 2005.   During the pause, Espanyol used stadium screens and loudspeakers to remind fans of regulations against violence and discrimination in sports. The message highlighted that any form of racism, xenophobia, or homophobia is strictly prohibited and subject to sanctions.   The Catalan club later issued a statement on social media, strongly condemning the incident and reaffirming its commitment to fighting racism in football.  Speaking after the game, Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams said to Movistar Futbol: "It's not the first time that this has happened.''   In January 2020, Williams was also subjected to racist abuse during an Espanyol-Athletic Club match.  ''People should come to football to support. I think that Espanyol and the Espanyol players need their fans and should not let a few people tarnish what is true football,'' Williams said, before adding that he hopes "everything will be solved, and perpetrators punished."   The issue of racism in Spanish football remains a pressing concern, with LaLiga implementing stricter measures to address discrimination in stadiums. Clubs and organizations continue to push for a zero-tolerance approach to ensure a safer and more inclusive sporting environment.  "The worst phase of the Dana storm is over," said Catalan president Salvador Illa in a press conference after a long day of disruptions across Catalonia due to severe weather with over 150 liters of rain per square meter falling in a matter of hours in some places While there were dramatic images of flooded roads and heavy rains, no injuries were reported but the weather event caused widespread travel disruptions.  The alert began in the early hours of Monday morning when the Catalan Civil Protection issued a mobile phone alert to residents in Baix Llobregat and Selva counties urging people to limit movement and avoid approaching riverbanks or ravines messages were also sent to other counties in Catalonia warning of continued and heavy storms Thunderstorms during the night had already impacted transportation R2 South and R4 South lines and those going to the south and Lleida were suspended After the alerts began to arrive in the morning, Spain's public train operator Renfe decided to suspend all Rodalies commuter trains across Catalonia, except for the RL3 between Lleida and Cervera, leaving thousands stranded Besides the train disruption, Renfe also halted bus services due to the Roda de Berà tunnel works Authorities also suspended high speed trains from Barcelona to Madrid due to flooding in the tunnel that passes through the city of El Prat de Llobregat When the weather situation improved, Renfe and Adif operators began inspections of all tracks to determine whether they have been affected At 5pm,  service of commuter trains gradually resumed in the lines R1 Storms caused major disruptions at Barcelona airport including flooding some parts of the infrastructure Many videos on social media show water leaks inside the terminal and many floods outside such as parking areas or corridors connecting different buildings The storms have forced the airport manager AENA to cancel 153 flights.  the airport set up a crisis committee to monitor the various disruptions at the airport Metro and Rodalies services were also suspended "Do not leave your homes and do not commute to work," said Sergio Delgado Deputy Director of Civil Protection Programs Civil Protection recommended families not to pick up children from schools because they are "a safe space." Workers were also advised to stay in their workplace as the general message is to "avoid all mobility." These regions join other counties under heavy restrictions, including Baix Ebre, Montsià, Terra Alta, Ribera d'Ebre, Baix Camp, Priorat, Tarragonès, Alt Camp, and Baix Penedès. According to the Catalan traffic system, many roads were blocked due to landslides and flooding in Tarragona, Ebre, and Baix Llobregat. These included the A-27 in Valls, which collapsed, as well as floods in the TV-3454 in Deltebre, the C-31B in Salou, and the Can Prunera road in Vallirana. Widespread traffic jams were also affecting the road network. The C-32 road reopened around 2 pm after being closed because of flooding that took place in Monday morning. The Pineda Avenue in Castelldefels was also completely flooded during the morning, as was the bridge for the train railway. Many residents and cars in the area were affected. Several universities across Catalonia have also suspended classes, such as Barcelona's University of Barcelona and the University Pompeu Fabra, which asked all students and staff not to commute to or off the education center. On a similar note, the Autonomous University of Barcelona recommended that students not travel to the center if they live in one of the areas under a thunderstorm warning. The flow of the Llobregat river at around Sant Vicenç dels Horts is almost 250 m3 per second after the storms that took place in Catalonia. More specifically, the flow went from 13 m3/second to 241.5 m3/second during Monday morning storms, according to the Catalan Water Agency (ACA). In the city of Tarragona, in southern Catalonia, the storm registered 150 liters of water per square meter in an hour. The storm has affected many areas in the city, especially the area of Móra, where two families had to be evacuated by emergency services.  In cities like Viladecans, outside of Barcelona, there have been 131 mm registered on Monday, which accounts for half of all the rain of 2023 (230.5 mm).  The Spanish interior minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has confirmed the current number of victims is 217 in all of Spain, most of them being in Valencia. Grande-Marlaska has not informed of the number of people missing: "It is not easy to specify the number of missing people, it is better to not establish a number," the minister said on an interview in Spanish national broadcaster TVE.  In Valencia, firefighters and rescue teams continue their tasks to clean and drain parkings such as the one in Aldaia, in the Bonaire shopping center, where there is capacity for 5,000 cars. The emergency teams have not found any victims so far after inspecting the first 50 vehicles. The first inspections of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) revealed that there were fewer vehicles in the parking than initially especulated.  Already a member? Log in Not a member? After many discussions between political parties, the city council will install a 193-square-meter large screen at the southern entry of the Fira de Gran Via exhibition halls. Another large screen will be installed at Vallparadís in Terrassa, the hometown of the Spain team's Dani Olmo. In fact, the city mayor, Jordi Ballart, announced it on social media, encouraging everyone to support the player. Under the leadership of the People's Party's Xavier García Albiol, Badalona, north of Barcelona, will also install a giant screen to follow the Euro 2024 final with Spain against England from 9 pm in Berlin. There will be music and entertainment from 7 pm. Albiol encouraged everyone to attend as "it could be a historic game." The city changed the location from the semi-final game as "it was very small." Near Terrassa, Sabadell will also install a large screen in the Parc de Catalunya to watch the last game of the Euro 2024 championship, which could see Spain win its fourth tournament. Santa Coloma de Gramenet - Plaça de la Vila square In Santa Coloma de Gramenet near Barcelona, the city council will install a large screen at the Plaça de la Vila square. Music and entertainment will start at 8 pm, as mayor Núria Parlon announced on social media. England or Spain supporters in Tarragona will be able to follow the game live from Parc del Francolí in the southern city. This was one of the first cities to announce the plan to install a screen after Tuesday's semi-final victory that saw Spain defeat France. One of the most controversial cities that will install a large screen is Vila-seca, in southern Catalonia, as the mayor is from the pro-independence Junts party. The announcement has generated outrage on social media as people consider "they would be ashamed" if they were residents. Lleida is one of the other main Catalan cities that will install a large screen to watch the Spain vs. England game. The event will be free, and there will be a bar and public toilets. Aside from the stands already installed, authorities announced they will also install chairs for a more comfortable experience. There will also be free parking. El Prat de Llobregat - Plaça de Catalunya square A way of supporting the player from the postal code 08304 in reference to Lamine Yamal from Mataró, from the 08820, the mayor of El Prat de Llobregat, near Barcelona, Lluís Mijoler, said. The city will also install a large screen to follow the game starting at 9 pm in Berlin. Parc Central in Mataró, north of the Catalan capital, will also install a large screen to be able to follow the game live. In fact, this city is special as Lamine Yamal, the youngest footballer to ever score in the Euros was raised in the Rocafonda neighborhood. The screen will be six meters long and three meters tall, and the area will open from 8 pm. Castelldefels - Plaça de Teresa Claramunt square The seaside town of Castelldefels, south of Barcelona, will also set up a large screen in the Plaça Teresa Claramunt square, just beside the Las Marines and the Josep Lluís Sert high schools. There will be music starting at 8 pm, but there will not be chairs.  One of the ten most inhabited cities in Catalonia, Reus, will not install a large screen to watch the game. A similar decision has also been made in the northern city of Girona, as the mayor said they would install screens when a Catalan football team competes in the European championship. The game will be broadcast live from Berlin by Spain's national broadcaster, TVE, and will also be accessible online on RTVE Player. Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker I’d just written about holiday money but hadn’t reckoned on the gangs that target tourists It happened within an hour of arriving at Barcelona airport – and just a day after I had filed a piece on holiday money for these pages What I hadn’t reckoned on was the organised gangs that are out to target tourists I could have protected myself (and my money) This is what you’re supposed to do before you go abroad: The next stage is to split things up. Why have everything in one wallet? By all means take two credit cards, one as a back-up. Secrete credit cards in pockets or toiletry bags. The same with your physical cash – leave some of your euros/sterling in your wallet to use while travelling, and hide the rest elsewhere among your bags and belongings. I hope I am painting a cliched picture of a victim, for that is what I was. There were a bewildering few seconds before we even realised we were being mugged. As the train pulled in and we walked up to the sliding doors, there was a commotion as some people pushed and shoved to get off. Others, behind us, were aggressively pushing on. But it was entirely fake – devised by a gang to separate us, then rob us. I looked down, to see my wallet in the hand of one of the men. Weirdly, as I wrestled it back, there was a pained expression on the thief’s face, as if I were falsely accusing him. Meanwhile, my partner’s bag was being slashed. Fortunately, we are both big enough (or stupid enough?) to fight back, and after a short tussle they scarpered. These incidents must be rife in Barcelona, judging by the only mildly sympathetic shrugs we got from fellow passengers on the train. The Renfe security staff at our destination were similarly uninterested. At our hotel, the Spanish receptionist said an English tourist had arrived the week before, and was robbed of everything at the same station. Never use El Prat de Llobregat, she told us. Fortunately, we lost little: two €20 notes nicked from the top of my pocket that weren’t in the wallet that I had been able to grab back. My phone and passport were also safe. But it was a deeply upsetting way to start a holiday. I don’t blame myself – I’ll save that for the nasty, vicious toerags who attacked us. But to anyone heading off this summer, take precautionary steps first. I wish I had practised what I preach. Each project and asset is legally independent and has its own managers. Construction of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport’s T1 access via the commuter rail network, known within the construction project as “Access to the new terminal at Barcelona Airport. Commuter rail network of Barcelona.” At the end of 2018, the final section of the tunnel connecting the R2 line from Rodalies with Terminal 1 at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport was finished. In the 3,048-meter tunnel, “Gala,” the tunneling machine that is 10.6 meters in diameter, was used, crossing Terminal 2 as well as the Airport’s Main Runway, the two most important points due to their uniqueness. Its dismantling is currently underway, and work is continuing on the future Multimodal Station in Terminal 2. The enclosure’s excavation at the future commuter rail station at Terminal 2 is currently underway, with the screens, jet-grouting, and upper and middle slabs already completed. The airport, which is managed by the state-owned Adif company, gets its current name from the area just outside Barcelona where it is located, El Prat de Llobregat. Meanwhile, its new name refers to the former Catalan president in exile during the Franco dictatorship. The name change was reported on the SER radio station on Friday morning, and was later confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN). For the Catalan government, it was also critical of the move, as it had not been consulted about the name change. Sources insisted that the objections are "nothing against president Tarradellas," but that they are happy with the airport's current name. located about 15 km southwest of the center of Barcelona is one of the main airports in the Spain and the region of the Catalonia Named after the town of El Prat de Llobregat this airport is a key gateway for the city and for Mediterranean tourism Barcelona Airport has seen exponential growth over the decades becoming today a major international hub serving more than 200 destinations in Europe BCN is a strategic node for intercontinental traffic and for domestic and European routes about 53 million passengers transit through the airport efficient and well-organized facilities to provide a comfortable travel experience Vueling has its main hub in Barcelona-El Prat, while other airlines such as Iberia numerous flights operate there on a regular basis the airport also supports cargo activities contributing to the local economy and connecting Catalonia with the rest of the world After last year’s success with audiences and critics the Franz Schubert Filharmonia under the baton of composer and conductor Gerard Pastor returns this weekend with a series of concerts dedicated to the music of Marvel and DC superheroes in Barcelona https://franzschubertfilh.com/es/programas/marvel-vs-dc-2023/ here you can read the special article about the great concert held at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona in October 2022: http://soundtrackfest.com/en/articles/marvel-vs-dc-in-concert-con-with-the-fsf-gerard-pastor-concert-summary/ And also the excellent exclusive interview given by Gerard Pastor to Frederic Torres for SoundTrackFest: http://soundtrackfest.com/en/articles/interview-with-gerard-pastor/ Do you like music from films, games, and TV series? ACN First published: February 12, 2016 02:41 PM Catalan President, Carles Puigdemont, together with the Catalan government vice president, Oriol Junqueras, the Catalan Minister for Territory and Sustainability, Josep Rull and former Catalan President, Artur Mas, took part in the maiden trip. Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau and the mayors of the two other neighbouring municipalities which are now connected by this stretch, L’Hospitalet del Llobregat’s mayor Núria Marín and El Prat de Llobregat’s mayor Lluís Tejedor, also attended the event.  In contrast, Spanish Minister for Public Works Ana Pastor wasn’t present, after claiming that the Catalan government had “vetoed” her. The Catalan government denied doing so and explained to the media that an invitation had been sent to Pastor on Thursday. The Spanish Secretary for Infrastructure, Julio Gómez-Pomar, was the only Spanish government representative to attend the event.  Puigdemont lamented Spain’s lack of investment in Catalonia Colau described L9 as “an opportune and essential investment for the country’s present and also for its future”. She emphasised that, due to growing pollution and climate change threats, “public transport is not an option but mandatory”. Colau also wanted to address those neighbours who live in areas with poorer metro connections and stated that Barcelona “owes them” this new infrastructure. The ticket to El Prat airport’s Terminal 1 will cost €4.50 and train frequency will be 7 minutes on working days, reduced to 4 minutes when big events are taking place. An infrastructure completed after seven years of tests and delays Although the line opens more than 7 years after the original projected completion date, the need for a connection between Barcelona’s industrial outskirts and the metropolitan city centres remained present despite setbacks. Though progress was slow through the years of financial crisis, former President Artur Mas assured Barcelona passengers in June 2014 that the new connection to the airport would “breathe life into the economic activity” of the city.  Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Market Analysis: Industry Market Size Copyright © ChemAnalyst - 2020 | Terms & Conditions | Privacy Policy He holds a Degree in transport hub and a catalyst for economic activity that can generate an annual gross turnover of 16.4 billion euros Some of the airport’s distinctive features include the facts that a single low-cost airline handles 42% of the passengers and 29% of the routes and that it is surrounded by wildlife reserves under the Natura 2000 network of protected areas Operating with a weekly average of 800,000 users Barcelona airport is the sixth busiest airport in Europe the first (2007-2008) occurred prior to the Barcelona-Madrid HST being brought into service and the global recession while the Covid pandemic interrupted the second period The record of 344,563 flights also marked the highest volume of greenhouse gas emissions: 514,318 tonnes of CO2 a challenge for the new Alliance for Air Transport Sustainability in Spain (AST) approved in 1999 and implemented for the most part designed the facility for a maximum of 90 flights per day the actual maximum number of flights has been 78 (40 take-offs and 38 landings) in the wake of pressure from local councils and residents of Castelldefels and Gavà which led to the separation of the two main runways (the shorter one close to the sea for take-offs the inner one for landings and the cross runway for special circumstances) to reduce the noise levels over residential areas five per cent of aircraft are too large for the short runway With the existing number of boarding areas and space the capacity of terminals T1 and T2 stands at 55 million passengers per year a figure not much higher than the 52.7 million reached in 2019 (the difference is only 4%) The health crisis provided an unexpected break the volume of users amounted to 41.6 million The construction of a satellite terminal connected underground to T1 would raise the infrastructure’s capacity to 70 million passengers a figure similar to that recorded in 2019 by first-class facilities such as Amsterdam (71.7) and Frankfurt (70.6) It would also add parking space for wide-body aircraft The impact of tourism means that the volume of users varies considerably depending on the time of year Summer is the busiest period for airport operations as shown by the ranking of months with the highest passenger traffic 181,206 people transited through the airport The maximum number of daily operations (1,140) was recorded on 17 May 2017 Some 60.2% of the passengers passing through the Barcelona-El Prat terminals are travelling to or from the 118 European airports connected to the Catalan capital Domestic traffic represents 29.2% of passengers with the Balearic Islands and Madrid as the main destinations out of a total of 28 available Intercontinental flights account for the remaining 10.6% Users of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport travel on scheduled flights (99%) to short or medium-haul destinations in Spain Europe or North Africa (only 7.9% travel to America Whereas the Barcelona-El Prat – Madrid-Barajas route was the most frequented until 2019 High-speed trains have turned the market around and now cover 75% of the demand of the corridor that had been dominated by Iberia’s air shuttle the Balearic airports amounted to 42.8 million passengers The fact that Barcelona serves as the preferred connection with the islands no doubt accounts for the high number of people using El Prat airport as a stopover between two flights Germany and Italy alternate year after year as the countries of origin and destination of most passengers at Barcelona airport These four European countries bring the most tourism to Barcelona and are also among the most visited by Catalans A recent development has been the rise in traffic with the United States the only non-European country in the top 10 According to the Air Routes Development Committee one of the goals pursued by economic agents is to increase intercontinental routes whose number is expected to rise to 46 this summer Subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date with going to want to book a flight there after reading this you know it's a beautiful city filled with amazing people these are the six things you should know before your next trip no doubt you've seen the long stretch of beach that leads up to the iconic W Hotel known locally as "La Vela." This area is called Barceloneta and is one of the busiest tourist spots; the beach gets very crowded at times Don't get me wrong — if it's your first time in the city There are dozens of chiringuitos (little beach bars and restaurants) along the length of the beach that vary from cheap(ish) tapas and sangria to fancier seafood places with set menus that you might go to for a nice dinner in the evening But the beaches get gradually nicer the farther you walk away from the city The other main beaches in the city are Platja de la Nova Icaría which is still pretty touristy; Platja del Bogatell which is great for beach volleyball; and Platja de la Mar Bella which is the city's gay beach — part naturist For slightly more picturesque and tranquil vibes you can catch a train to Montgat Nord on Line R1 from Plaça Catalunya This beach is quite small but since it's used mainly by locals it's usually pretty quiet during weekday working hours There are still a couple of chiringuitos and they're a lot quieter than what you'll find at the beaches in the city There is also a beach perfect for the AvGeeks Playa del Prat de Llobregat runs alongside Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport (BCN) and gives you spectacular views of the planes Barcelona's famous tree-lined La Rambla is actually made up of a series of smaller Ramblas: Rambla de Canaletes Rambla dels Caputxins and Rambla de Santa Mònica It starts in the center of the city at Plaça Catalunya and makes its way down to the marina This street gets very busy with tourists and illegal street vendors and over-priced restaurants A little farther along the coast and still within the city is a neighborhood called Poblenou Its Rambla del Poblenou is the heart and soul of the area and is lined from start to finish with bars and restaurants The best thing about it is that there is barely a tourist in sight — it's a real local hangout and cheaper than on the Ramblas in the center of town You can either take Line 1 on the Metro to Glòries and walk a few streets along the Avinguda Diagonal until the start of the Ramblas walk to the far end of Platja del Bogatell then cut through the Parc del Poblenou and you'll soon find the bottom of the Rambla Barcelona has more restaurants than you could possibly fit into a quick trip My recommendations are always places that locals like to go whether they're completely tourist-free or have a good balance of the two From ultra fancy to casual post-beach spots these are TK of my favorite places in Barcelona to eat The tapas arrive fast and are as good as they get The restaurant is so traditional it doesn't even have a website Can Majó is a stunning seafood restaurant where you can dine outside on the terrace just a few yards away from the beach The menus range from about $50 to $80 and include a starter where the experience is much more friendly and authentic than some of the "hot on Instragram" brunch spots that it competes with nearby The food is tasty and the combinations are quite unexpected Bad coffee is rare in Barcelona (unless you go to a chain) If you love Mediterranean cuisine, you absolutely must make a reservation at 1881 Per Sagardi but the restaurant is located atop the Catalonian History Museum and offers spectacular views over the waterfront This is a great place for a special occasion or to just treat yourself Lateral is a small Spanish chain with restaurants in both Barcelona and Madrid. As well as being stylish and trendy, it prides itself on incorporating culinary themes and styles from across the globe for dishes that still have a distinct, Spanish twist. The restaurant isn't cheap, but it doesn't break the bank, either. Carabella is perfect for after-beach snacks and drinks, and is a great place to meet friends before heading out for the evening. The cocktails are divine and you'll want to order tacos at least two (or three) times. This is a place to eat, drink and be social. Barcelona has no shortage of bars. Many bars and clubs close to the beach are overpriced tourist traps, which are really not authentic Catalan bar experiences. But there are some great ones. Also, if you're a gin fan, make sure you track down a Galician gin called Nordés — if it's served right, it will come garnished with frozen grapes. Waiters in Barcelona are usually have a decent salary and are not on the hourly rate more common in the US and UK. This means that going over and above to provide excellent service isn't as important for them as they don't rely on tips to make up for a poor wage. Even if they wanted to wow you with their service, they probably won't have the time, as restaurants tend to be very understaffed. Barcelona is in one of the most beautiful regions of Spain, Catalunya. It has mountains and beaches and everything in between. If you're up for an adventure, escape the city and consider a day trip, or even an overnighter, to one of these destinations. Sitges is a lot closer to Barcelona than Tarragona, but still takes around an hour to reach on the local commuter train. The town is most famous for being one of the most LGBTQI+ friendly places in the world. It hosts a huge pride parade every year and has a vibrant bar and club scene centered around la Plaça Indústria, only a couple of streets back from the beach. The beaches here are natural, and much more picturesque than the most popular ones in Barcelona. Starting in Blanes, around 40 miles north of Barcelona, and stretching all the way to the French border, the Costa Brava is one of the most stunning coast lines I've ever seen. At just under two hours away from Barcelona by car, Calella de Palafruguell is a magical little escape from it all. Its rocky inlets and tiny beaches are awash with crystal clear water. The town itself is very small and hilly. The best thing to do is find a place to park and wander, as there are dozens of restaurants along the coastline that usually have beautiful views of the Mediterranean. Here, the seafood is super fresh, tasty and a great value for your money. And in Cadaqués, the buildings are nearly all whitewashed, giving the town an almost Greek Island-feel. Meander around the coast and clamber down rocks to deserted beaches. Despite this place being quite a popular tourist destination, particularly with the French, it never feels too overcrowded. A man murdered his two children - an eight-year-old boy and girl - and wife before taking his own life in the Barcelona town of El Prat de Llobregat on Tuesday 9 April. Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police force, discovered the triple murder on Tuesday evening, about three hours after the 43-year-old threw himself in front of a local Rodalies train about 4pm. The train driver said the man - who was being treated for severe depression - died by suicide after jumping onto the tracks seconds before the train arrived at El Prat station. Police officers found a note among the dead man's belongings asking for "forgiveness". It triggered a search for the man's family, and officers then discovered the three bodies at the family home. They were found in the garage with wounds and bruises on their necks, according to sources. Autopsies confirmed they had been choked to death. The family was not well known in the area, as they had only recently moved to the neighbourhood in the centre of El Prat. The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) reported there were no previous complaints. The court in charge of cases of violence against women has taken over the case. If it is confirmed to be a gender-based crime, as everything seems to indicate, it would bring the number of children murdered this year in Spain in cases of violence against women to seven, five of them in Catalonia. Not counting the two children in El Prat, according to official figures, a total of 55 children have been murdered by their parents or their parents' partners in the past decade. Deputy prime minister Yolanda Díaz took to X (Twitter) to condemn the triple murder: "A woman has been murdered along with her two children. It is unbearable." "Machismo costs lives and the denial of gender-based violence only aggravates the problem. We must put all our means and all our energies into stopping it," she added. Espigoladors is a non-profit based in El Prat de Llobregat, not far from Barcelona, that fights food waste in Catalonia.  Because of the drought, a lot of fruit has not been picked this year as it has been deemed to be of too low a quality to sell.  In order to avoid having 9,000 kg of peaches go to waste, this group of volunteers has gotten to work harvesting the fruits on a farm in Soses, a small town near Lleida in western Catalonia. The farm had been left without workers after its owner retired with no one to take over it.  Espigoladors calls on other farmers to let them harvest their crops that cannot be sold so they do not go to waste.  "There are many farms that have not managed to harvest the peaches and have left them on the trees," Oriol Berenguer, from the Espigoladors Foundation, told the Catalan News Agency (ACN). "We want to appeal to them to let us pick their fields."  Once this fruit is picked, Espigoladors donates it to social entities.  Montse del Ríos, a volunteer at the Soses farm, said: "We just want to help people, as more fruit is picked, more vulnerable people can benefit from it." Catalonia served as a set for 3,612 filming productions in 2022 according to Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (ICEC) Most of the shoots took place in Barcelona and only 3.2% of the general recordings were for films or TV series The rest of the shoots (97%) are publicity short films or other types of small productions a talk organized by Catalan Films called "Catalonia a Country for Film Presented" presented last year's data of filmings in Catalonia with the exception of 2020 because of the pandemic there has been an stable tendency on productions recorded in Catalonia 2022 represents a 6% decrease in productions compared to 2021 That is 174 less in Barcelona and 61 in other parts of Catalonia fiction films for cinema have increased in the last year from 49 to 52 Some of the films shoot in Catalonia this past year are "Creatura" by Elena Martín, mainly shot in coastal town of l'Escala and won the prize for Best European Film at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight and "La imatge permanent" (The permanent image) by Laura Farrés a film recorded in El Prat de Llobregat and that competed in the official section of Festival de Locarno Catalan locations have also been a place for streaming platform productions like "Bird Box Barcelona" from Netflix, "Awarenness" by Daniel Benmayor in Prime Video, a scene of the popular show "The Crown"'s sixth season, and most recently Netflix's "El Cuerpo en Llamas" (Burning Body) Although most of these shootings (76%) took place in Barcelona, almost 8 out of the 10 daily recordings. In the rest of Catalonia, the main filming locations in 2022 were Terrassa, where the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC) is located and where popular film directors like J.A. Bayona studied Catalonia has been the guest of honor at London's Raindance Film Festival the main independent film festival in Britain.  through Catalan Films and the Catalunya Film Comission has presented to the contest 10 productions which are "very different and representative of Catalan cinema" like "Un amor" by Isabel Coixet Raindance Film Festival has been a great opportunity for Catalan cinema to win "more prestige and dynamise the industry," as Joan Ruiz from Catalan Films explained to Catalan News Agency (ACN) "Catalan cinema is living a sweet moment and is being welcomed internationally and I think that is due to our own point of view being seen in the stories together with a universal sensitivity," Ruiz added Carla Simón, the award-winning filmmaker, explained during the Raindance Film Festival that " Little by little, Catalan cinema is becoming more visible in festivals and international competitions, therefore people are linking our names with what is going on in the Catalan cinema industry".  "I think we are seeing a creative boom in Catalonia, especially with women, and it is also travelling internationally so people are starting to see that there is something going on in Catalonia's cinema industry," Simón added.   "Raindance is focused on voices that do not always have screen space, and the Catalan cinema has a beautiful mission of promoting Catalan culture and language, as well as educating people. That ends up bringing stories created from the heart to reality. That is what I like the most," Joan Ruiz concluded.  ACN Amazon's implementation of this new technology at its logistics center in Castellbisbal is its first in Spain. The center opened last October and specializes in Amazon Pantry orders. When the technology is implemented in El Prat de Llobregat as well this fall, Amazon Robotics will be working in twenty Amazon logistics centers across the United States, England, Poland, and Catalonia. According to the Amazon Spain Fulfillment general manager, Fred Pattje, the robots will make the employees’ job easier in order to improve customer service. The Amazon robots slide underneath and move the storage shelves by themselves. In this way, the number of stored items per square meter can increase by 50%, which will accelerate order preparations and give customers the benefit of a wider range of products, thanks to the additional storage space. In contrast with Amazon’s logistic centers in San Fernando de Henares, in Madrid, in which employees have to go to the storage shelves to prepare the orders, at the centers with the Amazon Robotics technology, the shelves will come to the employee, which will save them around six to seven kilometers in trips. Despite using the same technology, the Robots’ and the shelves’ quantity and capacity will be adapted to each center. In this way, 350 robots will operate the 2,000 storage shelves in Castellbisbal and 3,500 robots will handle the 50,000 storage shelves in Prat. Pattje said that, for now, this new technology will not be implemented in any other Amazon logistics center in Spain. The new hirings announced this Wednesday are in addition to the 1,500 jobs forecast for the logistics center in Prat de Llobregat and the 650 at the new logistics center in Martorelles, over the next three years. Furthermore, 500 more jobs will be added in Barcelona from now until 2019 with the opening of the ‘Seller Support Hub’, which is going to help thousands of small French, Italian, and Spanish companies sell their products through Amazon Marketplace. First published: October 10, 2023 03:01 PM The public water company that supplies more than 90% of Catalan residents has proposed a 33.7% rate increase from January 2023.  The board of directors of Aigua Ter-Llobregat (ATL) announced an increase to its average rate on Tuesday, which would see a rise from €0.74 to €0.99 per cubic meter.  The move has to be validated this afternoon by the Ter-Llobregat Network Council and the Catalan Water Agency.  The rate increase would amount to one euro per person per month, although the final amount may vary, depending on each municipality.  Following a price freeze that has been in place since 2017, ATL cited various reasons for this new increase: among them, the ongoing drought, the price of electricity and the cost of using desalination plants.  The Catalan government suggested that end users may not have to pay the increase in full.  Presidency Minister Laura Vilagrà said the rise is affected by the amount of money local councils have to pay. The councils then set the rates for consumers.  Vilagrà assured the public that they are working with local councils so that citizens, "especially the most vulnerable," are affected as little as possible.  Barcelona and its surroundings offer a wide variety of getaway options just half an hour from the city which means you don’t have to plan a big adventure to enjoy a different and exciting day out We tell you about some of the hidden treasures that are close to the city and easily accessible by train and other public transportation the city council of El Prat de Llobregat realized that neighbors loved to watch airplane takeoffs they placed concrete benches a few meters away from the runway Watching planes take off and land can be surprisingly exciting and the deafening noise of the engines creates a unique atmosphere you can reach El Prat de Llobregat by city bus in just over half an hour You may not have considered visiting Montgat before but you are missing out on one of the best kept secrets near Barcelona Montgat is home to one of the best beach bars in the area just beyond the mountain that separates Barcelona and Maresme you won’t find the Californian style that prevails in Barceloneta or the elegant chill-out bars you will discover a completely different atmosphere: long tables Sitges is a place that radiates a special charm Having a beer in the courtyard of La Guineu stretching out your towel on Balmins beach or strolling along Aigua street is to experience a sweet and hedonistic life But what really sets Sitges apart are its cultural events and active social life The International Fantastic Film Festival in October and the Fiesta Mayor celebrations in August are just a few examples of Sitges’ lively cultural scene a non-profit association that promotes music in Sitges provide even more reasons to enjoy this wonderful place What used to be a village is now the seventh richest municipality in Spain with one of the most impressive cloisters in Barcelona provide a relaxing and familiar atmosphere Enjoy a vermouth with bravas at Bar Rusiñol or anywhere in the monastery square for a truly local experience Stock images by Depositphotos La venta de la nuda propiedad Copyright © 2022 Salirporbarcelona , All rights Reserved. Barcelona from the freshest seafood to the heartiest meaty dishes Thanks for subscribing! Look out for your first newsletter in your inbox soon! This restaurant run by sisters Lolita and Paquita Reixach is a sheer delight, featuring traditional slow-style cooking elevated to its maximum expression. The award-winning establishment bases its dishes on locally sourced products like peas from Llavaneres, lobster from Arenys de Mar, beans from a farmer friend in Canet de Mar, delicious bread from Arenys de Munt... A favourite among celebrities since it opened in 1952. Santa Maria de Palautordera (Vallès Oriental) Head for the foothills of the Montseny massif to eat at one of the many restaurants in the area around Santa Maria de Palautordera. Serving market-style cuisine and located in a beautiful farmhouse, Can Nofre, with the Clos-Rovira family at the helm, offers dishes like fresh prawns from Palamós, grilled lamb chops with seasonal vegetables, and baked cod. Enjoy well-presented dishes in a cosy atmosphere. This welcoming restaurant offers views of the Ebre delta and fine regional cuisine, accompanied by a good selection of predominantly Catalan wines. The restaurant is attached to a three-star hotel with 11 rooms that was first opened in 2007. Els Casots-Subirats (Alt Penedès) With incredible views of the Penedès to admire while enjoying some tasty dishes, the Mirador de les Caves is a restaurant in Subirats with over 30 years of history. In addition to its exceptional location, the establishment offers dishes paired with the excellent wines and cavas of the area. Desserts are another of its major attractions. Lleida is well known for its snails served up in many of its restaurants, and locals are capable of eating heaps of them. Among the restaurants where they're available, we especially recommend Els Trulls since it’s also noteworthy for the quality of its grilled meat, is charmingly decorated and offers friendly service. It has a capacity for 35 diners so it’s always a good idea to book. Traditional mountain cuisine is on offer here, with top-quality cold cuts, meat from the Camprodon Valley and trout caught in the River Ter, which runs just in front of the establishment. Helpings are generous and rooms are also available. Mr Julià’s father opened this excellent restaurant located near Calafell beach more than half a century ago, and today, as on the first day, it offers delicious dishes made with fresh fish brought directly from the market in Vilanova. Here you’ll find large tables and warm and attentive service. By all means enjoy your fish, but leave a little space for dessert; we recommend that you try a Tarraco – a cake made of hazelnuts, chocolate and hazelnut cream. The spacious dining rooms at this restaurant make it ideal for groups and celebrations. It’s well known for its 'calçotades', when this leek-like product is in season, roughly speaking between December and March, served with an exquisite romesco sauce. In fact, Valls is the place that pioneered the cultivation and culinary exploitation of the calçot, which has since then spread all over Catalonia. Rooms are also available. The name of this restaurant comes from a nearby stretch of the River Ebre and refers to the pass between the Picosa and Tormo mountain ranges which was once used to transport goods from one bank of the river to the other The traditional Mediterranean-style cuisine here stands out for its rice and grilled meat and fish dishes and it’s also very good value for money biggest seizure of cocaine in Spain for 18 years with a total of 5,883 kilograms of the drug being found in the Port of Algeciras The drug was hidden in a container that according to its Customs documentation should have been carrying bananas from the Colombian city of Medellin with the final destination being El Prat de Llobregat in the province of Barcelona So far three people have been arrested in the operation: one heading the company importing the container that transported the cocaine and two close accomplices "Operation Nativity" began with investigations carried out by the Sub-Directorate General of Operations of the Department of Customs and Excise of the Spanish Tax Office the final phase of the operations was decided on and implemented by the Risk Analysis Unit (Spanish acronym: UAR) of the Customs of Algeciras a joint unit in which officials from the Tax Office work together with the Guardia Civil under orders from the Customs authority The operation began when the Sub-Directorate General for Operations of Spanish State Tax Office (Spanish acronym: AEAT) based on information available in the AEAT databases and other information obtained by it detected a suspicious shipment and applied the usual investigative techniques used by the Agency to determine the risk potential of the freight and examination of the commercial and maritime documentation that accompanied the shipment a suspicious container was selected that according to the accompanying documentation was transporting a shipment of bananas aboard the ship Banak with its final destination being El Prat the Sub-Directorate of Operations of the Tax Office requested the Customs Authorities in Algeciras to inspect the merchandise in the container physically as there were well-grounded suspicions that the container could contain cocaine The timely alert received by the Customs was submitted to the Risk Analysis Unit which carried out the check and confirmed the existence of drugs in the previously selected container The check was carried out on 28 November in the port of Algeciras It revealed a total of 5,883 kilograms of cocaine in packets of one kilogram each marked in the usual way by drug smugglers to identify shipments to different destinations or organisations The seizure in Algeciras is the biggest of cocaine by the Spanish police in 18 years the largest amount seized in a container in Spain and the second biggest in the history of drug smuggling in our country in any means of transport The biggest was the seizure made on the high seas in 1999 (7.6 tons) by the National Police Force and the Customs Service of the Tax Office investigations are being carried out at present under the direction of the Investigating Judge of Court No in coordination with the
