The Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier will add more than a dozen new routes in May at airports across the country — including a new route to the northwest tip of Puerto Rico
Frontier's expansion is 14 new routes
all of which will launch in the days leading up to Memorial Day weekend — the annual unofficial start of summer travel
TPG's picks: The most exciting new airline routes for 2025
The biggest winner in Tuesday's route drop: Dulles International Airport (IAD) near Washington
which will get three new nonstop destinations aboard the budget airline
Frontier has been expanding at the D.C.-area airport in recent months after returning to Dulles for the first time in several years in late 2024. It also revealed plans to bolster its footprint at the airport just days ago
Here's what the airline's Dulles route map will look like come May:
Frontier will also launch two routes apiece from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE)
plus three from Miami International Airport (MIA)
Also getting a pair of routes: Frontier's home base at Denver International Airport (DEN)
All those airports are places where the carrier has added flights over the last year amid a larger network realignment
Here's the full slate of Frontier's 14 new routes announced Tuesday:
A majority of Frontier's 14 routes unveiled Tuesday are entirely new to the airline
it previously flew a handful of them within the last decade
Frontier last served its short-haul Boise and Spokane routes from its Denver base in 2021
IAD-MIA and LAX-ORD in the mid- to late 2010s
Tuesday's network announcement is Frontier's biggest of 2025 after the carrier made vast changes to where — and when — it flies in 2024
the carrier realigned its network to focus less heavily on competitive domestic vacation spots like Orlando
opting instead to try to lure travelers flying between big cities to visit friends and relatives
the carrier also reduced its midweek flying on days like Tuesday and Wednesday
when fewer leisure travelers are on the road
That schedule tweak remains in place for 2025
Frontier president James Dempsey said on the company's most recent earnings call earlier this month
"We've spent the last 18 months trying to adjust our network to meet the demand patterns that exist in today's environment," Dempsey told analysts
"What we've done is really shape the week in a better way where we focus a lot of our flying on peak days
and it comes at the expense of off-peak days of the week."

Japanese start-up carrier JCAS Airways has secured ¥200 million ($1.3 million) in a pre-Series A funding round as it aims to commence commercial operations in spring 2026
The latest raise brings total funding to ¥650 million since the Tokyo-based company’s inception in July 2023
The announcement comes shortly after the regional carrier signed a 12-year contract with lessor Avation for a new ATR 72-600 aircraft
The regional airline initially plans to connect Osaka’s Kansai International Airport with Toyama Airport and Yonago Airport
tapping into the potential of domestic regional airports to create new passenger flows
JCAS says it wants to address the growing demand for regional connectivity
revitalizing underserved routes while supporting local economies
JCAS plans to put the latest funds raised toward equipment leasing
systems development and recruitment as it ramps up for its 2026 launch
“Japanese communities rely massively on regional air links for everything from healthcare and trade to business and tourism
and JCAS Airways will contribute to revitalizing our country
making cultural experiences accessible and maintaining a vital lifeline for the islanders of Japan,” JCAS CEO Seiji Shirane says
October 2025 is penciled in for the airline to take the ATR 72-600
which will become the first aircraft in its fleet
Avation says the placement of the aircraft nearly a year ahead of its scheduled delivery is “an illustration of the strong demand” for the ATR 72 for regional air travel
there are no airlines offering flights from Osaka to either Toyama or Yonago at present

The latest milestone has been reached to bring a multi-billion pound data centre to the county.
An outline planning application has now been submitted by QTS to the County Council for the erection of up to ten data centre buildings totalling up to 540,000 square metres along with ancillary structures
substation and other associated works.
The state-of-the-art facility at Cambois would represent a significant inward investment of up to £10 billion
Council leader Glen Sanderson said: “I welcome this latest step in the development of what will be one of western Europe’s largest Artificial Intelligence data hub at Cambois
“Subject to it meeting all the requirements of the planning committee
this scheme is a multi-billion vote of confidence in Northumberland’s future.”
The application will be considered by the council’s Strategic Planning Committee early in the New Year.
The application can be viewed via the County Council’s planning portal and searching for 4/04112/OUTES

There's a newer model of this product. It's been replaced by the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT V2
you may want to check out that review instead
One of my biggest complaints about live tracking on Wahoo’s platform over the last year and a half is that it sucked
Previously when you enabled live tracking on the Wahoo devices to send a tracking link to a friend/friend-with-benefits
it would provide information about your position
It just showed a single blue dot of your current locale
Just a random-ass blue dot on a map with zero context
they’ve moved from sucky to awesome in one fell swoop
With a firmware and app update released today
the Wahoo cycling computers now show proper live tracking information to friends and family
and even give some pretty unique and cool features that Garmin (who is basically the only other bike computer with this capability) doesn’t have
I went out for a bit of a ride last night to test things out
While this post is written about my usage with the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT, all of this applies equally to the BOLT and the regular ELEMNT
you’ll need to update the firmware on the unit as well as your phone app
All of this only takes a few minutes to complete
here’s the other things included in this particular release:
you’ll dive into the Live Tracking options on your app (Share Tracking Link
Share Until End of Day: This simply shares that link until midnight
This is useful if someone clicks on the link afterwards
at least they won’t just get a random error
Meaning that if a person comes back a week later and you’re on a different ride
then anytime you go for a ride the app will trigger notifications to Facebook
But there’s also a fourth option – which is to revoke everything
Note that if you have any sensors on your bike
do ensure that they’re connected as normal (obviously)
what’s super important is that you have the Wahoo ELEMNT companion app open on your phone
you can shut off the screen on your phone and change to other apps
but somewhere in the background the Wahoo app has to be cookin’
Next to note is that the Live Tracking can display your planned route to others
which can’t display your loaded/planned route
Below you can see what a route looks like
so it’s not as nifty looking as a circular route
(Side note: You won’t see the planned route on my remaining screenshots due to an odd bug I found with the way I started the live track
I wasn’t about to drag my butt up the mountain yet again for another screenshot
Wahoo is looking into why the bug occurred via one method but not the other.)
A few seconds later your friends/family/affairs will receive the live tracking link
Note that in my case it went into my ‘Clutter’ folder in my e-mail
so you may want to check Spam/Junk/Clutter/etc… folders in your e-mail
tell those who are following you to do so as well
if you look at yourself using the mobile site (it’s responsive to different screen sizes)
you’ll see your current location without any track…since I haven’t gone anywhere
You can scroll down to see tabs for the data metrics for different data sets (power
So let’s fast forward (up and) down the road a ton to see what those metrics and lines look like there:
In many ways this isn’t too much different than Garmin’s site
though Garmin’s app doesn’t show you sensor data on the mobile app – just the desktop app
Below on the desktop site you can see the data graphs overlaid on Garmin’s live tracking services
as well as the ability to show all data sets on one graph
This can actually be handy if you want to correlate something like a hill to why heart rate increased
Of course, what’s also obvious is that Wahoo’s app looks more like 2017, as opposed to Garmin’s tracking site from last decade. Actually, that’s not entirely fair – they introduced it in January 2013…and haven’t changed it one bit since for cycling (seriously
you can go back and look at my screenshots in that linked section)
Garmin has had half a decade to improve it in ANY way possible
I can think of and have noted plenty: Adding planned/loaded route to overlay
allowing you to add photos mid-route via your phone (many people do that with Strava today)
displaying Strava segments on it as you hit PR’s
displaying fun stats like you hitting distance/wattage/etc PR’s (which Garmin knows too)
showing battery status of the Garmin device or phone
But there is one thing that Garmin does that Wahoo doesn’t: Numerous and better map providers
Wahoo uses Mapbox for generic terrain maps
whereas Garmin allows you to choose between Garmin
as well as satellite or road maps from either Google/Microsoft source
This can be useful in seeing what’s around you
For example during today’s ride when it’s neat to see the snow-covered mountain passes of the French and Swiss Alps I was riding through:
This is of course because Garmin is paying for accessing these multiple semi-costly mapping services, whereas Wahoo is using just one…and a really darn inexpensive one at that
one early complaint a while back was that the mobile/ELEMNT connection wasn’t very resilient to cellular connectivity drop-outs
causing the tracking session to outright die
I went through areas where cellular connectivity dropped out and I had no issues with the service resuming properly
Also of note is that on the Wahoo site it’ll show you battery status of the device
which is kinda neat (seen below left image to the right of my name if I hover above it)
on the right image you can see how ‘old’ the data is – 19 seconds in this case
it worked fairly well aside from the initial route overlay quirk I ran into
and the graphs are just a heck of a lot nicer to look at
One other oddity though I did notice though was that the final numbers between the BOLT device and the Live Tracking site were slightly different
but slightly different – a few watts off for the max power for example
They were substantially off for the average power
but that appears to be a case of the Live Tracking site displaying average power with zeros not recorded
I could see how that’d be a little display preference quirk
they’ve identified the root of this bug and it’s set to be fixed next week (behind the scenes on the web platform)
Overall this is good stuff and great to see them moving the goal posts forward
In many ways this kinda reminds me of last summer when Wahoo added Strava Live Segments integration to their ELEMNT
but when they did it – they really did it right (and have recently improved it a bunch last month)
It’s sorta like this for Live Tracking as well, they weren’t first, but overnight they’re the best now in that category. Do note that while I think Quarq’s Race Intelligence and their standalone Qollector service is better in many circumstances
it’s not a head unit but rather a standalone tracking device – so a bit different use case and grouping here
some might ask why you’d use this instead of just a phone app
Of course – I’m sure there will be some who want Wahoo to focus on other items with this firmware update
And they did too – such as Strava accuracy improvements and a bunch of other random things
And they delivered a big firmware update last month too
Which doesn’t take away from Garmin doing frequent almost monthly Edge series updates as well
What’s cool here is the segment continues to improve and we’re seeing a lot of great competition from a lot of players

How did the app impact battery life on your phone with livetracking on
I understand it saves a lot of battery with the gps coming from wahoo element
but the app background running and triggering cell connectivity tx and rx how did that imoact your battery
since I was running two live tracking apps (Garmin and Wahoo)
plus a bunch of other apps in the background
But I was constantly taking screenshots (I took about 50 in total
along with photos (about 40) for this post I didn’t use and another post later (and again
with live tracking and my phone had about 40% battery left at the end
I was riding through the mountains so I’m sure some extra battery was used searching for a signal
I started out with a fully charged iPhone 6+ today
I am ready to pop on the Elemnt especially after they seemed to have nailed the Live Tracking
Ray do you think you will have the time to check out the ERG/Trainer control any time soon
I included an ERG control piece within my BOLT (and ELEMNT) review
I think it’s the best implementation of a trainer control out there
changing wattage via the head unit on the fly)
The problem however is that it doesn’t support FE-C trainers
and while Wahoo promised it a year ago…it’s still nuttin’
So it ‘only’ works with the KICKR/SNAP today
So if you’ve got one of those – awesome
Does that include the ConnectIQ apps that can control the trainer for saying it beat garmin apps
Xert’s trainer app came out about a year (maybe more?) after Garmin implemented trainer support
but it’s also doing something totally different than what Garmin’s native capabilities are
I just mean if your goal is to try to get faster then xert’s ability to control the trainer could be considered the best way to control the trainer which would require an Edge unit
would you classify this Wahoo firmware update as a Gamin killer
I have an 820 and have become beyond frustrated with the gremlins in the device
I’d consider it a Garmin killer…even without this update
But it does edge closer to being an Edge 520 killer depending on your use cases
But more on that on (hopefully) Thursday with a post comparing those two
I was going to pop some money down today on a Edge 520
I already have a Forerunner 235 and was thinking it was worthwhile staying in the same ecosystem
All I can say is that I brought one to replace my 820 two weeks ago
Already replace my 520 with bolt month ago and I do like it very much
especially control is more responsive and informative
Route setting is simple and data sync is the part I like most
Garmin connect is suck and no need to bear of it now
I bought an element to replace my 810 and I like it much better
Same here – my Bolt replaced a 510 and I love it
The really only thing it lacks is Garmin Varia Smart support – so it even saved me some money :)
I love my Bolt but I really wish they will support Varia radar.
I don’t know when it happened exactly
but your writing chops have gotten really good and the “entertainment” part is right up there with the “tech” stuff nowadays
but the pace of Wahoo’s innovation is way more exciting and fun to follow
I own pretty much everything Wahoo makes now and none of it sucks
I think it depends on how much sleep he’s gotten when writing up the review
As to pace with Garmin there is a chance Garmin has been holding back on functionality for the 1000 replacement coming out soon (I hope) as competition forces them to go further
because how else could you fit every thing you do into 24hours
But once I finished the ride and opened the phone app
and Strava — 4 “data repositories” — with 3 slightly-different takes on the data from my ride (the Bolt and the phone app agree)
average heart rate was spot on across all of them
I really don’t care about “which is right” (clearly the highest power
as they’re very close to each other — it’s just interesting to me that they’re all apparently doing different behind-the-scenes processing
Only thing holding my back from one is support for Garmin’s Varia rear radar light
I think it’s been asked before in a previous Bolt post
but do you think there’s any possibility it will ever be supported on the Bolt
I am also holding off selling my 520 and purchasing Elemnt or Bolt until Varia radar is supported (or Wahoo introduces its own radar)
there is an ANT+ radar profile available to developers
but I suspect it’s low down the totem pole
workout support and probably more 3rd party app type stuff I suspect are higher up the list (even lighting or GoPro control perhaps)
Just curious how much of your phone data a 2-3 hr ride with live tracking enable would eat
Wahoo is really doing a great job with the Elemnt
GPS isn’t really a battery killer on phones
Before I got my Elemnt I used a RFLKT and was easily able to ride centuries using my iPhone as the GPS
or even turn on airplane mode (the GPS still works fine)
Last time I did this I still had 45% battery on an iPhone 5 from a 113 miles ride
This was with BLE HR and speed/cadence meters also
battery life on phones is good if you toggle one or two settings
I use RideWithGPS app on my iPhone in airplane mode for two reasons: i) backup in case there is a rare problem with my 520
and ii) its easier to stop and review the route on my phone than on my 520
I’ll temporarily turn off airplane mode and text pics to my wife
have ridden some long 8-14 hour rides and have plenty of phone battery at the end
The main app has to be running or is there a service style background process it uses
The problem with requiring the main app to run is the phone might kill it if it needs memory to run something else
Like if I run Waze and multitask too much (obviously only as a passenger) waze can be killed off so no more directions if I use too many other apps
Yes from experience with the previous version on Android you have to go into the app at the start of the ride so that the phone connects with the Elemnt
but once you’ve done that it will keep working in the background and you can use other apps
Excellent timing with Ride London just around the corner
How did you get web access to your ride data? Did I miss something? I thought that ride data was only available on the phone app and that a web platform (like garmin connect) wasn’t available yet. I tried going to http://www.wahooligan.com and while my profile is there (current power zones
You receive a link via e-mail when you turn on the live tracking (that’s the part I talk about checking your Spam/Junk/Clutter folders)
you don’t get access to any of your data on the web
I was hoping that Wahoo would implement a web based site that all your rides get loaded to for viewing
I was told by their support that others have expressed interest and they were working towards it
I really like how they provide end of ride data on the phone app
so a web app that could consolidate some of that data
even if they charged for it like Strava premium
all of the data is available there as soon as it syncs up post-ride
Between Strava and all of the third-party plug-ins and apps that plug into Strava’s API (such as VeloViewer)
I spend precisely 0 time looking at the metrics provided by Wahoo/ELEMNT itself
except when I haven’t had a chance to sync it yet (I don’t use auto-sync because I like to have all my pics lined up and ready to attach to the ride ASAP before I upload the ride
to ensure they make it into the Relive recap)
It doesn’t look like the Moxy data comes through the Live Tracking
I’ve got an email in to Wahoo to see if they can add that in since they already support it on the Elemnt
How long will the Element Bolt battery run for with live track turned on
My Edge 1000 only runs for 6 hours before the battery is exhausted
If you don’t have this info would you be able to do this test please
HR strap and speed and cadence sensors and my Element has around 50% battery left
Last thing I’d like to see is an alert function to some chosen contacts when you haven’t moved for an amount of time (5 or 10 mins) in combination with ELEMNT/BOLT autopause
The Wife is fond of this functionality in a specific app called RoadID
Unfortunately this has happened to me once
My wife and the ambulance were able to find me quite fast
but implementation on the Wahoo platform is even better: trigger in combination with autopause
Now I have to pause this app manually apart from my ELEMNT during planned stops
A normal pause for food/drinks is usually after an hard/manual stop
I use autopause foor traffic stops and those don’t usually exceed 5 mins
Cyclemeter has had this level of live tracking for at least 6 years and is easily one of the features I missed most
Cyclemeter also had the extremely cool ability to show the live map on Facebook without a user even clicking anything
I doubt Facebook’s API still allows that
You actually have to do it as well on Garmin
as noted it doesn’t need to be open as you are seeing it running
it just needs to be somewhere launched in the background
Running Android never had to open/run Garmin connect
Does this means they have changed the Find a Friend feature at all – the related feature where you can see friends’ locations on the Elemnt map
There was an “issue” that it was linked to the Live Tracking option – if you turned on Live Tracking previously
it meant that your location appears on the map for the whole world to see
along with all other Elemnt users in the form “Tim R.”
Which was just a little bit concerning to say the least
Does anyone know if this has changed at all
This to me was potentially a more useful feature if they could fix the “stalkiness” it
You can now opt out of showing your location to other riders on the ELEMNT map
Next big step should be recalculating a route should you get lost hopefully
It is a shame that the txt message option is not provided for the link sharing
This is also not a Garmin option but was standard on the RoadID app
Much more in likely to get picked up than an email etc
I used live tracking for the first time today
Sent SMS to the wife who could click on the link and follow my ride
Why no option for text message notifications
It’s likely because doing so costs money
Fwiw – almost every carrier I know of allows you to send notifications to an e-mail address
Mid-way down this post, they list a lot of carriers and the format to use: link to lifehacker.com
This is done once to time you connect ELEMNT companion app to your FB profile
So you can’t set it up per ride unless you want to fumble around in the app/privacy settings of FB everytime you go on a ride
I just got a Bolt and have gone on a couple of rides with it
but I’m stuck on one detail I haven’t seen answered anywhere
I don’t like to keep my training data in the cloud
I dumped ride data onto my PC using the ANT+ USB stick
and used Rubitrack to plot everything and do all the data analysis
RT does not seem to support the ELEMNT/BOLT units directly just now
there’s a workaround described in exactly one thread on their board
I did find that the Android File Transfer app works just fine to browse the directory tree on the BOLT
and I can copy the .FIT files onto my Mac (running El Capitan) by drag-and-drop
it says that they contain no usable data or are corrupted
not even GPS Visualizer knows what to do with those same files — and I’ve almost never seen a GPS data file that tool can’t handle
I don’t know enough about the .FIT file format to figure out what’s happening
but I was under the impression that the BOLT was writing these in a totally standard way
Do you have any ideas about how to successfully import this data without having to use some cloud-based service
Best approach is to contact RT and ask them to update their FIT file parser
My guess is that they haven’t updated to the V2 variant that came out over a year ago now
You could use some converter tools to get to .TCX
And I believe if you e-mail yourself the files from the Wahoo app
@Jay: Turns out the old version of RT I was using (never upgraded
because it was expensive and I didn’t need/want any of the features in the newer version until now) did not have the revised V2 FIT parser
so I’ve just downloaded a 2-week trial to see if it’s worth buying
@DCR: While I’m kicking the tires on the new version of RT
could you suggest a reliable FIT to TCX converter in case I decide to stick with the old one
I’ve already tried a handful (FIT-to-TCX
FIT to TCX is honestly the one I tend to use the most – and even then I rarely use converters these days unfortunately
I hope they do as good a job with workouts as they’ve done with everything else
It’s really the only downside of the unit–2×20
you don’t need a structured workout function
then 5 min of rest (16 times) is a workout that I would rather just be led through than have to keep count of
And services like today’s plan are becoming integrated with other sites like zwift
Suffice it to say that expectations are high…
This is the one thing that has stopped me from ditching my Garmins
Does anybody know if the live tracking can show mile markers as you ride
I just finished the RAW (Ride Across Wisconsin) which was 175 miles in 1 day
I met Jens Voigt at a rest stop – it was great
My battery went down to 10% only 100 miles into the ride
I had to turn the phone off for the rest of the ride and my wife did not know when I would cross the finish line so she could see it
These cycling events which are usually century rides or longer
make receiving texts more of a necessity at times than normal group rides
I could turn data on every hour or two for a few minutes while at a rest stop to receive messages if that would work
I’ve been using wahoo software for some time with a ghd elemnt bolt
analyzing the caloric consumption of bike outlets (I have always used a heart rate monitor) I noticed that elemnt software provides of the calorie data consumed much lower than those provided by strava or garmin software
I asked for wahoo assistance because of this difference and they have responded to me like this:
We use 2 different formula for calories burned:
Men: calorieBurnRate = abs(((0.6309 * newHeartrate) + (0.09036 * weightInPounds) + (0.2017 * userAge) – 55.0969) / 4.184);
Women: calorieBurnRate = abs(((0.4472 * newHeartrate) – (0.05741 * weightInPounds) + (0.074 * userAge) – 20.4022) / 4.184);
You will also notice the above formula’s calculate burn rate
Since we calculate the burn rate every second
it means our method is more accurate than just using a average heart rate for the workout and thus will also mean our value doesn’t match many online calculators
according to you the method used by wahoo is more accurate than garmin and strava
I’ve long given up on deciding which is most accurate
that most of the very smart scientist-like people in the HR/Calorie field come from Finland
and as such tend to rotate between a very small number of companies in this realm
So while they have small disagreements that impact edge cases
by and large the numbers end up being very similar
you are right ray ;-) if I have to be honest garmin and relying on my feelings I would say that garmin and Strava overestimate the calorie calculation (Stara in a striking way)
the estimate that provides wahoo software seems more truthful and closer to that of polar … but it is a totally personal feeling
Forgive me for a comment on an 8 month old post…
I was thrilled when the live tracking update came out last summer that it had the planned route along with live tracking
However I’ve had all sorts of issues with connectivity recently and with having to restart the phone app repeatedly to get live tracking to display
so I’m curious if you’ve noticed these issues
Their support folks suggest I am the only one
I’m frustrated by Wahoo’s attitude and ready to start looking for a new device
so I’ve been scanning through your recent reviews
I want to download routes wirelessly from ridewithgps
have a nice mapping page with turn by turn directions and a useful climbing page that I can zoom to a level useful to me
I would love to see my route displayed when I’m riding virtual routes at home
And then airplay the display to my Apple TV
Don’t think it’s possible but it would be nice
Wahoo Elemnt cycling computers are experiencing connectivity issues with maintaining LiveTrack
I have owned the Elemnt for three years and until about two months ago LiveTrack has somewhat worked reliably
Something changed for Wahoo because LiveTrack is effectively dead
Wahoo Tech Support keeps reporting a big update to the companion app is rolling out to all on 08/25/2020
We’ll see if this resolves the problem
Until then I really can’t recommend anybody purchase a Wahoo cycling computer until they resolve these issues
As far as I’m concerned any company that promotes specific features for their product and fails to deliver should be held liable
I wouldn’t mind seeing a class action lawsuit if this is not resolved
I have experienced the exact same problems the last month(s)
By unpairing my Wahoo Bolt and pairing it again with my iphone
but on following attempts just repeats the last workout
but showed the entire workout after completion
It’s been a nuisance the last months

Within the volcanological community there is a growing awareness that many large- to small-scale
point-source eruptive events can be fed by multiple melt bodies rather than from a single magma reservoir
glass shard major- and trace-element compositions were determined from tephra systematically sampled from the outset of the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle (PCC) eruption (~1 km3) in southern Chile which commenced on June 4th
Three distinct but cogenetic magma bodies were simultaneously tapped during the paroxysmal phase of this eruption
These are readily identified by clear compositional gaps in CaO and by Sr/Zr and Sr/Y ratios
resulting from dominantly plagioclase extraction at slightly different pressures
with incompatible elements controlled by zircon crystallisation
Our results clearly demonstrate the utility of glass shard major- and trace-element data in defining the contribution of multiple magma bodies to an explosive eruption
The complex spatial association of the PCC fissure zone with the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault zone was likely an influential factor that impeded the ascent of the parent magma and allowed the formation of discrete melt bodies within the sub-volcanic system that continued to independently fractionate
Surveyed points are indicated in meters above sea level
Maps were modified using Adobe Illustrator CS5 version 15.0.2
The position of the 2011 PCC vent(s) coincides with the intersection of the N-S oriented Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault zone with the 15-km long by 4 km wide NW-SE oriented Cordón Caulle fault-bounded graben with associated fissure vents, aligned domes and pyroclastic cones (Fig. 1)
Selected trace element plots of PCC samples
Y and Th (A–C) (all highly compatible in zircon) decrease with decreasing Sr indicating the concurrent fractionation of zircon alongside plagioclase
Ce and Th (D–F) show no variation in element/element ratios between the three magma groups
indicating the cogenetic relationship of the simultaneously erupted magma bodies
especially in highly complex volcano-tectonic environments such as the Andes
adjacent to regional tectonic structures such as the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault zone
coupled with its extant (pre-2011) magmatic plumbing system
is likely to be influential in allowing or impeding magma ascent and thus potentially facilitating the formation of separate (independent
fractionating) melt bodies within the sub-volcanic system
during and after magma emplacement while analysis of pre- and syn-eruption InSAR and seismic data along with future geophysical transects across this fissure zone may locate and configure magma storage levels
assess interconnectivity as well as identify spatial relationships between surface and sub-surface fault and pre-2011 magmatic structures
these approaches will be useful in clarifying some of the unresolved questions posed from this research

Metro Transit buses will be detoured between 24th and Lake streets
Work to rebuild Hennepin Avenue through south Minneapolis begins Monday
and traffic lanes will be closed or restricted for the next two years
Bus routes that run on Hennepin between Uptown and downtown will be shifted to Lyndale Avenue
and two others will bypass their normal stops at the Uptown Transit Station
Construction will be in two phases: between 26th and Lake streets this year
then between 26th Street and Douglas Avenue near Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church and the Interstate 94 interchange in 2025
“The project is an opportunity to update Hennepin Avenue to meet the public’s current and future needs,” the city said in a news release
Hennepin is one of the busiest streets in Minneapolis
6,600 transit riders and 220 to 280 bicyclists
The roughly $32 million project is the thoroughfare’s first major upgrade in more than 65 years. It also has been the source of contention as business owners argued that the loss of curbside parking would drive customers away
Hennepin Avenue will have one traffic lane in each direction and left turn lanes at key intersections
Parking will be allowed in bus priority lanes during nonpeak hours
and the eastside of the street will have some parking and loading bays
wider sidewalks and a two-way protected bicycle lane
The layout also provides space for enhanced stations being built for the future METRO E Line, a bus rapid transit line that will largely replace Route 6 in December 2025. The line will connect the University of Minnesota with downtown Minneapolis and Southdale Center in Edina.
Tim Harlow covers traffic and transportation issues in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and likes to get out of the office, even during rush hour. He also covers the suburbs in northern Hennepin and all of Anoka counties, plus breaking news and weather.

After falling behind 17-0 at halftime and being dominated most of the game
the Bulldogs may have locked up a spot in the College Football Playoff
At the beginning of the year, nobody had any idea of the record number of pilgrims who would soon flock to the region
and face masks still had to be worn indoors and the vaccination certificate had to be carried at all times
the Pilgrim’s Office would timidly announce the arrival of a handful of pilgrims each day
The routes now look almost crowded; so much so that we are now seeing walkers on new routes that never used to exist
The year has not only set a new record for the number of pilgrims
but also for the number of different caminos heading to Santiago
This much is shown in the statistics released by the Pilgrim’s Office
the official statistics recognised nine different routes: Camino Francs
Va de la Plata and Camino de Fisterra y Muxa
These nine routes then became ten following the inclusion of the “Other routes” category
these “Other routes” began to acquire names
the list grew longer as more and more pilgrims made the pilgrimage
until the number of categories literally doubled
The nine existing routes were joined by nine others: Camino de Muros e Noia
skirts the northern shore of what is known as A Ra da Estrela and passes through Serra de Outes until it reaches Noia
it heads inland through the municipality of Lousame and meanders through the parish of San Xusto
It crosses the municipalities of Rois (via Urdilde)
There is also a variant that leaves Porto do Son and runs parallel to the southern bank of the estuary until it joins the original route in Noia
if we take the rough figure for the other routes of 20 to 25 kilometres a day
this particular route could be finished in just three to four days
Routes departing from the coast have been hugely popular in recent years. So much so that the route we just described has a neighbouring route running to the south of the estuary. The Camino de Barbanza, also known as A Orixe (The Origin), was granted official status in March 2021
The Camino de Barbanza follows the course of the Arousa estuary and the river Ulla
just as the remains of James the Great once did
A route that allows you to discover the magnificent northern shore of the Arousa estuary without running into all the crowds
it runs through the municipalities of A Pobra
Boiro and Rianxo until it begins the ascent along the river Ulla heading through Dodro
it joins the route of the Camino Portugus (Portuguese Way)
There is also the option of taking a sea-river route by approaching one of the companies that charter boats from Ribeira
in the same port where the boat with the remains of Saint James is said to have arrived
One of these sets off from any of the ports in and around the region of Bergantios: Laxe
the different routes come together to form a single route at Valenza (Coristanco)
the Laxe and Ponteceso routes converge at A Carga (Ponteceso)
Corme (Ponteceso) and Barizo (Malpica) converge at Nemeo (Ponteceso)
Malpica and Cain (A Laracha) join at Buo (Malpica) and continue through Ponte Dona
Once all the routes have converged in Valenza
this northern variant passes through Agualada
Castriz and Carboeiro until it reaches Pramos
the western variant sets off from one or other of the ports along the Costa da Morte: Fisterra
Part of the route coincides with that of the Camino de Fisterra y Muxa (Way of Fisterra an Muxa)
but actually heads in the opposite direction
with the yellow arrows pointing towards Santiago
as the Camarias route also passes through Ponte do Porto and Cereixo
so the only difference is the kilometre marker where you start walking
This route merges with the Muxa route at Quintns (Muxa)
the route converges in Romar (Vimianzo) with the route starting in Fisterra
Santa Comba and Vilarnovo until it reaches Pramos
Both variants then continue together as they make their way towards Santiago, passing through Portomouro on the way. Although the total distance varies depending on the port of departure, there is a special requirement for those looking to earn the compostela certificate of completion. As explained on the website of the Celtic Way
pilgrims must complete two routes: one from the Costa da Morte and another from Bergantios
You can also choose to combine one of the walking routes with a sailing route
provided the latter exceeds 100 nautical miles
allowing pilgrims to take in the Serra do Xurs natural park
During the initial stages while inside Galicia
it crosses the Portuguese-Galician border on more than one occasion
It continues its path through the province of Ourense via Cortegada
A Estrada (via Codeseda) and Pontevea until it reaches Santiago
follows a similar path to that of Geira e dos Arrieiros
While the official guide of the route states that it also enters Galicia through Lobios
the certificate with which the cathedral granted it official status in 2020 claims that it passes through the Portuguese municipalities of Monao and Melgao
meaning it would run parallel to the river Minho as it heads through Pontevedra
thus making it impossible to enter Galicia through Lobios
the route runs almost parallel to that of Geira e dos Arrieros
It is at this point where the two caminos pull furthest apart as they head through Galicia
The Camino Mioto Ribeiro turns off towards O Foxo
where it joins the Va de la Plata (the Silver Way)
the Camino de San Rosendo is another variant of the routes heading into the region from Portugal
this one enters Galicia via Portela de Home and makes its first stop in the region at Lobios
It continues its course through Celanova —from where the route takes its name
as San Rosendo wielded enormous influence in the municipality during the Middle Ages— until it reaches Ourense
The Camino de San Rosendo follows the historic pilgrimage of Elisabeth of Aragon
she travelled the route along the Va Nova
following this route allows you to discover the legacy left behind by the Romans in Galicia
while also taking you through the cross-border natural park of Serra do Xurs
There is also a variant on the last stage (Celanova?Ourense) that follows a section of the Camino Natural
which traces the route of various Roman roads from the camp of Aquis Querquennis
as recorded in the annals of the Ministry of Agriculture
The Camino del Mar links the Camino del Norte (Northern Way) with the Camino Ingls (English Way) following the edge of the Cantabrian Sea
it forks upwards from the traditional route in Ribadeo to traverse the coastline of Lugo —known as Maria Lucense— and Ortegal until it reaches the Ferrol estuary
It allows pilgrims to discover one of the most tucked away coastal areas of Galicia
where the wild sea forms natural treasures such as the beach of As Catedrais
O Fucio do Porco or the cliffs of Vixa de Herbeira
The Camino del Mar deviates from the more traditional route in Ribadeo to take you through the municipalities of Barreiros
Xove and O Vicedo until you eventually enter the province of A Corua
Cedeira and Valdovio until it reaches Ferrol
which is the starting point of the Camino Ingls (English Way)
instead of following the entire Atlantic coast
head inland towards the municipality of Neda
one of the first stops on the Camino Ingls
One of the unique features of this coastal bypass is that it allows you to do two pilgrimages in one
there is a village perched on the clifftops known as Santo Andr de Teixido
where you should go at least once in your life or
“Vai de morto o que non foi de vivo” (“He who failed to do so while alive shall do so when dead”)
it was a promise that God made to the saint when he saw that pilgrims were going to Santiago but not to his temple
There are other routes that pilgrims can use to switch from one camino to another
One such example would be the Camino de San Salvador
while still outside the borders of Galicia
the starting point of the Primitive Way and which just so happens to be another Catholic pilgrimage site
as it houses numerous relics that brought many a pilgrim to the cathedral in the Middle Ages
As the saying goes: “Quien va a Santiago y no a Salvador
sirve al criado y deja al seor” (roughly “He who chooses Saint James over Saint Salvador favours the servant over the master”)
This route even comes with its own credential: the badge of Saint Salvador
Also lying outside Galicia is the Camino Olvidado
It is an alternative to the Camino Francs

he went missing while working in the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang
he was taken into custody by local authorities for no official reason
This article is a bit different from what we usually report about, but nevertheless, we think it is important enough to share this content with our audience. Our friend and colleague Hugh Brownstone has initiated a petition over at change.org to help Lu Guang
Lu’s wife was the one who found out about her husbands imprisonment by trying to contact the wife of the photographer who invited Lu to the autonomous region of Xinjiang province
both photographers were taken into custody
there is neither an official statement on the reasons for the arrest nor a publicly available indictment
Lu focuses primarily on the social impact of industrialization in China
Lu Guang has been awarded multiple times by the World Press
his photojournalism earned him a Henry Nannen Prize in 2008
the Prince Claus foundation and National Geographic
Lu is now one of these detained individuals
Nobody really knows where he is or what is status is
Hugh Brownstone has launched a petition on change.org to help change the situation of Lu Guang. Since Lu has worked on such sensible topics as Aids (World Press Award 2004)
pollution and the impacts of industrialization in China
this petition is not only about him but about free press in general
No country should oppress journalists or free speech
In the long run, free and objective journalism serves all of us, even if (or precisely because) journalists uncover uncomfortable truths. There are more prisoners, of course. In China alone, there are currently at least 50 journalists imprisoned for vague reasons
Please considerate signing the petition

Image: Andy Rain / EPAYle News23.6.2021 13:50Budget airline firm Ryanair has announced plans to open new routes from the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere to the UK and Europe this autumn
the airline will begin service from Helsinki to London
the Polish cities of Warsaw and Poznań as well as Kaunas
the firm said it will open a route from Tampere to London
The Irish airline has previously announced plans to begin flights from Lappeenranta
director of Finland's national airport operator Finavia
"It's great that Finland's good flight connections are recovering
It is a sign that we are on our way to better times," Vuori said in a statement
Along with the rest of the world, the Finnish air travel industry collapsed during the global coronavirus epidemic
the number of passengers travelling through Finnish airports during the period of January to May of this year was just over 800,000
or more than 80 percent fewer than the same period last year
However, following Finland's recent relaxation of cross-border restrictions and the use of EU Covid certificates
travel to and from other bloc countries has eased somewhat
Vincent CablePhotograph: The GuardianTitle: Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman
being quite frugal with taxpayers' hard-earned cash
Claimed nothing in second home allowances over the past four years because his Twickenham constituency is close enough to Westminster to allow him to commute - and he always gets the last train home
His defence: There is "no justification" for colleagues living in London to claim the second homes allowance
Verdict: 5/5 Nice to know some MPs practise what they preach and are as careful with public funds as they would be with their own

Stands accused of: submitting some of the most straightforward expense claims of any member of the shadow cabinet
His defence: "It is the responsibility of those we elect to behave properly
but to the highest ethical standards."
Cameron clearly acted within the spirit of the rules
Anyone would think he had ambitions to be the next prime minister of the country
Photograph: John Giles/APTitle: prime minister
Stands accused of: paying his brother for cleaning services
His defence: the arrangement was all above board
A proper contract of employment was drawn up and he was merely reimbursing his brother for his own share of the bill
Some may question whether the taxpayer should pick up the bill for Brown's cleaning
but there seems little doubt the prime minister went to great lengths to ensure the arrangement was within the spirit of the rules as well as the letter
Stands accused of: claiming a total of £142,119 in second home allowances since 2001
although he had no mortgage on his property
In 2007-08 he claimed £2,988 for gardening
He submitted a claim for £249 every month of that year – £1 below the limit for which receipts must be submitted
meaning he did not have to include invoices for the work
Between 2004 and June 2008 the total bill for gardening at the house was £11,771
His defence: Haselhurst said he had checked with the fees office whether he could continue to claim for the upkeep of his garden
that he had to claim his second home allowance on his constituency home
He said: "People will judge how far these things are necessary; quite a lot of people would regard even the existence of the allowances as something they are not sure MPs should have
My view is that it should have been dealt with through salary which is taxable."
Haselhurst worked within the rule but as the Green Book states that gardening should be strictly for "maintenance"
Did the £11,771 he spent on his second home in that four year period "wholly
necessarily and exclusively" enable him to carry out his parliamentary work
Stands accused of: claiming for the cost of having his swimming pool boiler serviced
submitted thousands of pounds worth of claims for gardening and cleaning at his £1.5m
which is set in two acres of Wiltshire countryside
In a single year he claimed £3,000 in cleaning costs and more than £1,250 for gardening
His defence: Ancram agreed to repay the £98.58 cost of his swimming pool boiler repair
but said his other claims were necessary for maintaining his property
"None of the other items were extravagant or luxurious," he said
He added: "I should point out that I have not taken my pay increase this year because I felt in the economic circumstances it was wrong
I do take a very strong exception to any suggestion that this was enhancing my property or that my claims were financially beneficial."
Verdict: 4/5. Ancram did nothing improper – all his expenses were signed off by the House of Commons fees office – but taxpayers may be angry at having to meet the large gardening bills of a man who owns a £1.5m property in Wiltshire

Stands accused of: spending more than £7,000 in five months furnishing a London property in 2006 before "flipping" his second-home designation to a new property he bought in Surrey
His defence: "I did not 'flip' [my second home]
I have not made any profit at taxpayer's expense."
Gove said his principal home had been in Surrey since before his election as MP for Surrey Heath in May 2005
"All of the furniture from our family home in London was moved to Surrey in August 2004 and I let 51 Barlby Road [in London] from August 2004 until the beginning of July 2005
"After the tenants moved out I designated 51 Barlby Road as my second home on which I then claimed the ACA," he added
Gove was clearly very angry at the allegations and launched a robust defence
Photograph: David LeveneTitle: Liberal Democrat leader
Stands accused of: claiming the maximum allowed under the second home allowance and regularly claiming for food
furniture and decorating his constituency home in Sheffield Hallam
He also claimed for personal phone calls to Colombia
His defence: "These international calls should never have been charged to the taxpayer and I apologise
I have paid back the total cost of £80.20..
I voluntarily published my expenses in detail last year and ..
Clegg also said he will repay any profit he makes from the sale of his constituency home to taxpayers
Clegg deserves some credit for being open about his expenses and for apologising and refunding the money spent on personal calls
taxpayers may question whether someone earning £65,000 a year really needs to claim the maximum second home allowance while expecting taxpayers to pick up his food and gardening expenses
Photograph: PATitle: Conservative MP for Haltemprice and Howden and former shadow home secretary
Stands accused of: spending in excess of £10,000 of taxpayers' money on home improvements over four years
including a new £5,700 portico for his Yorkshire home
He claimed more than £2,000 for the cost of mowing and rolling two paddocks at his home and another £400 for overhauling a tractor mower
His defence: Davis said the new portico was built to deal with "severe water damage"
He said: "There was no choice but to replace it before it came apart
except for a change to prevent the water damage recurring." He claimed only half his mortgage costs and said all other home improvements "were to the same standard as what they replaced
and decoration and replacement of carpets is only done when absolutely necessary"
Davis may have stuck to the letter of the law but the MP
who grew up on a council estate and chaired the public accounts committee between 1997 and 2001
cannot fail to be embarrassed by the revelations

Stands accused of: Claiming for work on his helipad and receiving thousands of pounds for gardening bills
Spicer has submitted a range of expenses including £1,000 for servicing an oven and £620 for the installation of a chandelier and rewiring work
the fees office refused to pay a £1,433 bill submitted for gardening
saying it could "be considered excessive" as he had claimed £5,560 for garden maintenance in the nine months preceding that
In the six months before that he had received £3,295
His defence: Spicer said it was "perfectly proper" that he should claim for the "wear and tear" on the house in which he had lived for more than 30 years
And he described the claim for a helipad as a "family joke"
He said the gardening claims were misleading as a man visited the house every day to carry out maintenance
"It would have been more accurate if I had defined this item as 'maintenance' rather than gardening," he said
Spicer did nothing improper but although he may have called his helipad a "family joke" voters will not be laughing at having to pay £609 for the four and a half hours his gardener spent cutting the hedge around it and his vegetable patch

Stands accused of: claiming for the cost of nappies
Woolas claimed £210.31 for "food" and submitted receipts totalling £210.31
included on the receipts were a pair of women's shoes for £23
two packets of disposable bibs priced £2.98 each
The cost of these impermissible items came to £47.73
which makes the food part of the total claim only £162.58
His defence: Woolas insisted that he had only claimed for food
every MP could claim up to £400 a month for food without the need for receipts; the inference being that the other £162.58 was for food he had not submitted receipts for
Asked whether his claim for precisely £210.31 indicated that he had put the shoes and nail varnish on expenses
Woolas replied: "I take your point and I understand the extrapolation." However
he insisted he had done nothing wrong and added: "The original accusation is untrue
I am being hung out to dry for being honest
The key point to remember is that I don't need to submit receipts to back the claims and I could have actually claimed £400 for the food
"The claim is one document and the receipts are another
The fact that they both add up to the same amount doesn't prove anything
It doesn't mean that the fees office paid for the non-food items on the receipt."
It is true Woolas could have claimed up to £400 for food without submitting any receipts
but taxpayers may consider the £210.31 total for both the receipts and the final claim to be a pretty big coincidence
Photograph: Bruno Vincent/Getty ImagesStands accused of: spending £10,000 of taxpayers' cash hiring an interior designer to refurbish his London flat
He also claimed more than £4,700 over four years for parking bills despite having access to free parking below the Commons
His defence: He has rented the studio flat close to Westminster for 20 years and before the claim had submitted "no substantial claims for maintenance"
He said that he has a "protected rent until 2034
Verdict: 2/5 Campbell acted within the spirit and the letter of the rules but taxpayers may question whether his love of luxury and classic cars played any part in his expense claims
Title: Conservative MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham and former agriculture secretary
Stands accused of: submitting a claim of more than £2,000 for the moat around his country estate to be cleared
It is also alleged that taxpayers helped to pay for his full-time housekeeper at a cost of £14,000
work to his stables and for his piano to be tuned
were bills for a "mole man" and a £31 call-out to have bees removed
He paid £4,488.48 for "machines and fuel" for the estate
between £200-£300 for "oil and coal" and thousands of pounds in repairs including £2,115 for the offending moat
His defence: "For most of the working week my wife and I are in London
We therefore employ a lady to look after the house in Lincolnshire and for similar reasons we pay for the costs of maintaining the garden
There are of course other substantial costs involved in running the Lincolnshire property."
Although Hogg is confident he acted within "both the letter and the spirit of the rules"
who don't own a manor whose previous occupants include Henry VIII's grandmother
could be forgiven for being a little disgruntled at having to fork out for its extortionate running costs

Stands accused of: billing taxpayers for a £40 summons for his non-payment of council tax
Öpik also had to repay £2,499 for a 42in plasma television
which the parliamentary authorities deemed "not allowed" because it was purchased while parliament was dissolved for a general election
He also claimed £12,655 for extensive renovation work to his flat but claims for garden decking and removing a wall between his kitchen and the living room were rejected
His defence: Öpik repaid the £2,499 and will now repay the £40 fine
He told the fees office he had "genuinely tried to minimise the cost of the work" to his flat and had employed builders from the north and let them stay in the flat to "save more money"
Verdict: 2/5 In terms of total claims Öpik may not be one of the worst offenders but taxpayers may conclude that even the cheekiest MP would be hard pressed to argue that a 42in plasma screen
garden decking and removing internal walls of a flat were essential requirements for representing constituents
Photograph: Andy Hall/ObserverTitle: Conservative MP for Rushcliffe and shadow business secretary
Stands accused of: avoiding paying the full rate of council tax on two homes by claiming that neither was his main residence
Clarke told the parliamentary authorities that his main home was in his constituency
allowing him to claim a second home allowance on his London home and have the council tax there covered by his expenses
But he told his local council in Nottinghamshire that he spent so little time at his constituency address that his wife should qualify for 25% single person's council tax discount
His defence: Clarke insists the arrangement saved the taxpayer money
saying that if he had claimed on his Nottinghamshire home he could "fairly be accused of seeking to exploit the parliamentary allowance system by choosing to claim on the bigger property." He added that
he spends so much time away from home that it is fair that his wife qualifies for a single person's discount
Verdict: 2/5. Rushcliffe borough council said they were satisfied that Kenneth Clarke was entitled to a single person's council tax discount
Clarke has a point that he could claim more on his bigger Nottinghamshire property
but he may face questions from the parliamentary authorities about why he told them his main home was in his constituency if he did not spend much time there

Stands accused of: Declaring a flat in Kennington
as her primary residence for tax purposes – avoiding capital gains tax on the £45,000 profit she made when she sold the property – while telling the Commons authorities that it was her second home
a designation that enabled her to claim hundreds of pounds in parliamentary expenses
Her defence: A spokesman for Blears said: "Hazel has complied with the rules of the house authorities and the Inland Revenue
No liability for CGT arose on the sale of her flat in Kennington."
Blears was clearly acting within the rules but taxpayers may begrudge her the benefit that is not available to ordinary mortals

Stands accused of: using two taxpayer-funded loans to buy a flat in central London
even though his constituency is less than 17 miles from the House of Commons and he already owned three properties within the M25
He then claimed thousands of pounds to renovate the property and is alleged to have delayed putting in claims for decorating and refurbishing so he could receive the maximum in Additional Costs Allowance (ACA) over consecutive years
His defence: Grayling said he needed the two loans to buy the property
"One was the standard maximum loan available for a second property and the second was to pay for the 20% deposit," he said
"In addition to serving my constituents
I have spent several years serving in the shadow cabinet ..
a second home enables me to meet those commitments."
Grayling did nothing improper but taxpayers may ask how many homes are necessary for an MP to carry out his or her work

Stands accused of: claiming more than £20,000 for a house in Southampton 100 miles from her constituency or Westminster
Her defence: her partner is based in Southampton and she is entitled to a family life
The claims were agreed by the parliamentary authorities
Moran did not break the rules but taxpayers will likely question why they had to foot the bill to provide their elected representative with a property that is neither in Westminster nor her constituency.
