a leading architect of the decorative arts movement
Georges was considered more flamboyant than his father
which embodies Art Nouveau's valorization of fine craftsmanship and the natural world; sensual frescoes creep up the walls
and a spring garden blooms across the original stained glass windows
At one end is a fantastically ornate bright blue ceramic fireplace by Ècole de Nancy
Georges is also responsible for creating the LV initial in 1896

the pain of losing a pet can still hit without warning
for the umpteenth time — how empty the house feels since your cat died
Or stumbling across the leash of the dog you lost and remembering how it used to set off tail-wagging glee
Grieving owners can feel doubly lonesome if the humans in their lives don’t quite know how to help, perhaps because they’ve not had pets themselves or feel awkward around grief
How can owners and their friends cope better with pet bereavement
pet loss can feel worse than a human death
it reflects the potential depths of human-animal bonds
For some people, a pet is their most important relationship, “the being that they see every single day, that maybe sleeps on their bed, that they cuddle with on the couch,” says E.B. Bartels, author of “ Good Grief: On Loving Pets, Here and Hereafter."
"There are people who feel more comfortable with animals than with people," she adds
"So losing those relationships can be really
People who haven’t experienced pet love may struggle to understand what it’s like to lose it
They may think they are being helpful by saying
“It was just an animal,” or “They were lucky to have such a loving owner.” But pat phrases
can make grieving owners clam up and feel alone
“You feel like you can’t talk about it because people aren’t really empathizing,” says Annalisa de Carteret
who manages a telephone helpline and other pet-loss support services for Blue Cross
“Just allow that person to talk about how they’re feeling
you can get another pet' or ‘He had a good life
You just feel sad and just want someone to listen and to understand.”
Another tip: Don’t assume that an owner’s grief is commensurate with the size or type of animal they lost, or the length of time they had them. The death of a pet lizard, for example
can be as painful for some people as losing the cutest of fur balls for others
“My friend’s dad has a koi pond and he loves these koi
And he was so upset when a raccoon got in and killed all his koi one summer,” Bartels says
they’re just fish.’ But he loved these fish
She suggests that friends can offer practical help: A grieving owner who no longer has a four-legged reason to leave the house might appreciate the offer of a walk with a two-legged companion
“People can really feel they lose their community,” Bartels says
you bring your dog to the dog park and you get to know the group of people who are there every morning really well
And so then if you lose your reason for going ..
Up to 30,000 people contact Blue Cross each year for pet-loss support
Many aren’t simply sad but also are fearful that they may somehow have been responsible for their animal’s death or disappearance
“Guilt is a really big part of pet loss,” she says
maybe they’d have stayed alive a little bit longer,’ or if they were stolen: ‘If I didn’t put them in the garden.’ Or
‘What could I have done differently to change the inevitable?’”
For bereaved owners who feel more upset about the loss of a pet than about a family member
Each animal has its own personality and a new one won't necessarily fill the void left by another
you may no longer have the patience for kittens' litters or puppy-training again
“I’m sure I’ll have a hard time again in June when it’s the year anniversary of when we put him down,” she says
De Carteret keeps her dog's ashes by her fireplace
“Some people will think that's weird,” she says

The new ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch pays tribute to the exceptional savoir-faire and unique history of two pillars of the Maison: the legendary trunkmaking workshop
and Louis Vuitton’s center of watchmaking excellence
is a true celebration of craftsmanship and know-how
The creation merges a minute repeater movement and automata mechanism of seven animations
with outstanding métier d’arts including gold engraving and enameling
the ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch is an embodiment of Louis Vuitton’s singular heritage and unparalleled artistic crafts
and which showcases the Maison’s embrace and commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity and imagination
and where Louis Vuitton founded his workshop in 1859
the village of Asnières sits on the banks of the Seine and was the perfect place for which to transport the wood and materials used for the Maison’s handcrafted trunks
Asnières evolved over the decadesto include an expanded atelier
as the main house served as the private home for many generations of the Vuitton family (who lived in the property until the late 1980s)
Today Asnières is at the heart of the Maison’s rare and special-order creations
The historic house is now a museum that symbolises the heritage and spirit of the Vuitton family
Vuitton’s Family home and historic atelier in Asnières are at the heart of this story
and represent the first pocket watch to be publicly disclosed by the Maison
The property has been recreated on the dial of the 50mm piece
while in the foreground stands a 19th century horse-drawn delivery carriage
The carriage further captures the Maison’s unique past: it takes after an 1887 Louis Vuitton advertisement and a portrait of the family at Asnières
The portrait featured three generations of the Vuitton family – Louis
Georges and Gaston-Louis Vuitton – with craftsmen sitting around the carriage
Powering the ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch is the Calibre LFT AU14.01: a manual-winding mechanical movement with an on-demand minute repeater and automata mechanism of seven animations
La Fabrique du Temps needed many months to research and develop Calibre LFT AU14.01
assembling all the components – with their varying heights
dimensions and specifications – into a case sized at 50mm by 16.7mm was another mindboggling challenge
But this represents how Calibre LFT AU14.01 was truly created from the ground up
produced in service to the magnificent story that unfolds on the pocket watch
an iconic movement at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton
features two different chimes: the lowest for the hours (dong) and highest for the minutes (ding)
while quarter hours sound on the two chimes (ding-dong)
the most sophisticated tone in chiming watches
With both a longer and lower sound compared to a traditional chime
the cathedral gong challenged our watchmakers and engineers to create a precise minute repeater mechanism whose many components also did not interfere with the extremely complex movement overall
The ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch pays homage to the jacquemart minute repeaters that Louis Vuitton has created on wristwatches over the years
What first began as bespoke orders for clients has seen Louis Vuitton’s jacquemart expertise evolve into the GPHG award-winning Tambour Carpe Diem wristwatch and Tambour Jacquemart Minute Repeater wristwatch that marked the Maison’s 200th anniversary
The ‘Escale à Asnières’ continues the rich story of Louis Vuitton’s unique jacquemart heritage
A push of a trigger at six o’clock sets off a wonderful story on the dial
The horse and carriage – 3D-like and all crafted in gold – begin to move
the horse’s legs and hooves stepping left and right as the carriage wheels turn
stacks of Louis Vuitton trunks charmingly pop open
each one revealing their own tiny Monogram Flower
The entire scene is presided over by a shining
it’s the smallest LV-cut stone the Maison has ever created
the seven animations each represent a mechanical feat: they move at different tempos
together creating this marvelous yet realistic tableau
Michel Navas is the Master Watchmaker at La Fabrique du Temps who created Calibre LFT AU14.01 alongside Master Watchmaker Enrico Barbasini
“I love to bring some poetry into this mathematical world of high watchmaking,” he says
“It’s a mix of high watchmaking and theatre.”
Complementing the mechanical triumph of the ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch are incredible savoir-faire that further challenged La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton and its Métiers d’Art atelier
Gold engraving is at the heart of the dial and caseback
with each element entirely sculpted by in-house master engraver
Crafting the dial’s base begins with the labor-intensive
which is used to carve a single block of gold
as Dick Steenman translates 2D renderings into a lively 3D dial
Each element is crafted with meticulous attention and detail
sculpted under binocular and often with specialist tools with pin-like tips
Dick Steenman brings light and aspect to each element
while engraving and carving with immaculate precision
each element functions as a moving piece in the automata’s theatre
No element is too small or insignificant to escape the utmost attention and care of gold engraving
ultra miniature wheels are sculpted to rounded perfection
The Louis Vuitton trunks – also very small– are given a special vertical brushing that recalls the Maison’s Trianon pattern
The carriage itself and its wooden frame are sculpted for mindboggling detail and depth
as the coachman is engraved with life-like features and subtle nuance
The horse’s physique emerges in gold relief
After engraving each of these tiny treasures
they are fired at high temperature for several minutes – no easy task with breakage a real risk at 800°C
The firings create a thin layer of calamine
a carbonaceous residue that coats the gold in a burnt-like
Layers of color are then applied to further energise and enliven the scene
Dick Steenman then carefully brushes each piece to create a unique play of shade and tone
Reworking the gold to bring depth and dimension to each element
Three weeks are required to finish the gold engraving on the dial
and the intense workmanship is matched only by the equally labor-intensive
‘Escale à Asnières’ ’s caseback is a statement all its own: adorned with a horse-drawn delivery carriage that echoes the one on the dial
the carriage features incredibly fine details
including minuscule text highlighting the Maison’s first addresses
Dick Steenman begins with the bas-relief technique to directly sculpt the carriage
which features the “Louis Vuitton” inscription
the 12 letters of which come to the fore by masterful hollowing and chiseling of the surrounding gold
the tiny trunks are adorned with their own unique texture
where vertical brushing is contrasted with a mirror polished background
The horse’s body is also embellished with the texture of the animal’s coat
as the reins are painstakingly carved in different reliefs
Dick Steenman works with a multitude of techniques deliver a splendid play of light
The engraved caseback alone takes four weeks to complete
Working in parallel with Dick Steenman is Anita Porchet
master enameller and a long-time collaborator of the Maison who has created many special and bespoke timepieces for La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton
Her first task is to select the enamel colors that capture Asnières beauty and spirit
an in-house artisan creates a special guilloche pattern on the dial
featuring sunrays that radiate from the central diamond-set sun
Anita Porchet then coats the dial with numerous layers of colored enamel – 35 different hues to be exact
The dial’s most complex feature is the house
which is celebrated with a stunning play of shadow and light reflections
Anita Porchet follows each of these colour applications with individual firings
the dial is then given its final flourish: a layer of translucent enamel fondant that brings a glorious shine to the whole tableau
Crafted in tandem with Dick Steenman’s engraved
the dial of the ‘Escale à Asnières’ comes into its own with a rich array of colours
– not to mention playful animation too – in this most mesmerising masterwork of artisanal métiers d’arts
“All these know-how together give rise to this masterpiece – and an achievement for La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton,” says Michel Navas
The ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch would not be complete without its own bespoke
the trunk comes wrapped in an exotic green leather that matches the dial
hidden drawers house the timepiece’s various accessories: an 18k pink gold pocket watch chain
and compartments for the certificate and book that details the journey of this masterpiece
“The ‘Escale à Asnières’ pocket watch is a wonderful adventure for us all: the watchmakers and engineers of course
but also Dick Steenman for the engraving and Anita Porchet for the enameling
We love to surround ourselves with all these métiers d’art and savoir-faire.” says Michel Navas
“This piece represents the meeting of the expertise of Geneva and Paris
where haute horlogerie complication and intricate know-how embrace the tradition of Asnières.”

five ambitious young artists—Vincent van Gogh
Paris undertook an enormous public works project
often referred to as the Haussmannization of the city
that led to a new municipal layout of grand boulevards and elegant apartment buildings
as seen in Gustave Caillebotte’s Paris Street: Rainy Day
This “renovation” of the city had enormous consequences for the suburbs and the Seine: major shifts in population
increased development of agricultural land
While artists like Caillebotte embraced the new Paris as a subject
and Angrand sought inspiration outside of the capital
immersing themselves in the industrializing suburbs on the river Seine: Asnières
These suburban locations were full of electrifying tensions—physically and psychologically located between city and country and offering both industry and leisure
The works on view in Van Gogh and the Avant-Garde: The Modern Landscape showcase how these artists captured this textured environment and how
while depicting subjects like the recognizable double bridges at Asnières or the Seine itself
each artist found inspiration in nature that contributed to radical new ways of painting
Postcard of Asnières showing the Pont du Chemin de Fer and the Pont d’Asnières
located across the river Seine to the northwest of Paris
was easily accessible from the city by train or on foot
Two bridges facilitated travel to the area: the Pont d’Asnières
While the bridges appear in works by most of the five artists
it was Van Gogh and Bernard who gave these structures prominence in their paintings
Van Gogh’s View of the Pont d’Asnières foregrounds the pedestrian bridge he would have crossed on his journeys to this area in a view of the river looking south
The Dutch artist created a vibrant depiction of this bridge
horizontal brushstrokes to compose the stone piers and water while monumentalizing the structure by portraying it from below and stretching its spans across the width of the canvas
This composition may have been inspired by the artist’s collection of Japanese woodblock prints
which included an impression of Utagawa Hiroshige’s Okazaki: Yahagi Bridge on the Yahagi River
Like Van Gogh’s View of the Pont d’Asnières
these prints often enlarged the subject while minimizing surrounding figures and components of the landscape
While Van Gogh featured the pedestrian bridge
his young friend Emile Bernard emphasized the area’s industry by focusing his Iron Bridges at Asnières on the railroad bridge with a passing train
Digital Image © The Museum of Modern Art/Licensed by SCALA /Art Resource
Bernard began seeking alternative styles from those used by his contemporaries
producing this highly experimental painting
Bernard broke elements of the composition into bold
contain blocks of black to indicate the shadows under the tracks and provide a sense of depth
heavy composition that mimics the industrial character of the area
Paul Signac’s Clipper (Opus 155) depicts both bridges at Asnières; the railroad bridge sits along the right edge of the composition
while a small span of the pedestrian bridge connects to the distant shore on the upper left
Signac’s painting prominently integrates the recognizable pedestrian and railroad bridges and the round tanks of the gas factory at Clichy
visible above the buildings on the opposite bank
By situating the railroad bridge obliquely and by including the pedestrian bridge and gas tanks
Signac defines the landscape with these markers of modernity and focuses attention on the clipper
Although the bridges were identifiable markers of the landscape at Asnières
the Seine itself was a key feature of all the northwestern suburbs
The winding river served as both a site of recreation and a route for transporting industrial materials
providing ample inspiration for all five artists
Charles Angrand explored the stillness of the Seine
imbuing the river with a magical sense in The Seine at Dawn
The painting is set in an unknown location
with the thin factory chimneys at Clichy jutting up into the sky
Omitting outlines and using only shades of cream
Angrand produced a hazy image of the early hours of the morning
from which a golden glow emanates like a halo
which is further amplified by the placid and unchanging surface of the river
Georges Seurat’s The Seine at La Grande Jatte
painted more than six years after his initial exploration of the island
characterizes the Seine as an active site of recreation
With the man in a scull and the sailboat in the distance
the river invokes the leisure activities that grew steadily more popular in Paris in the second half of the 19th century
In contrast to Angrand’s representation of the Seine
reflecting the buildings and sails on its shimmering waters
its composition of various shades of blue alludes to its depth and creates a substantial texture on the river’s surface
and Angrand were all drawn to the suburbs immediately outside of Paris because of the exciting tensions the area offered
recently transformed by developments in adjacent Paris and ripe for exploration
presented a stimulating canvas upon which these artists could test new ideas about painting
The intersection of industry and nature found at Asnières
and La Grande Jatte inspired them all to experiment with color
and composition—and ultimately to redefine what it meant to paint a “modern landscape.”

While Paris has two fine ice rinks open all year round, Les Courtilles is the most impressionistic in the capital's western suburbs
the spot is open for free or supervised practice
whether you're looking to train for leisure lessons or competitions

Following major renovation work in 2021 (from the lobby to the seats, to PMR compliance), the Alcazar cinema has been offering innovative technology since October 2022
We've tried it out to give you a sneak preview
A few words about the technology first, for lovers of beautiful images: the LG LED screen is installed in the large 300-seat auditorium (choose number 1 if you book from their site here)
It measures 10 meters across and is made up of 192 LED panels
offering superior visual quality to most projection systems
Although this process already existed with other equipment manufacturers
the visual quality offered by this LED screen (the1st in cinema in France for LG) is impressive
thanks to absolute blackness and a luminosity that can be increased to 300 candela/m² (to put it simply
well above the current standard of 48 cd/m²
enabling you to watch a film even with the lights on
The audio system with CP950 Dolby processor
incorporates speakers located at the top and bottom of the screen
enabling sound rendering two-thirds of the way up the image
The LG LED screen also offers significant ecological benefits: it consumes three times less energy than a xenon projector
producing less heat and thus reducing ventilation requirements
A few minutes after the commercials and trailers
a short animated film highlights the multitude of brilliant colors and the precision of the image details
demonstrating the impressive quality of the image
The film's projection immerses us in total immersion: the cloak-and-dagger scenes follow on from one another
giving the impression of springing right into the theater
Characters such as d'Artagnan and the musketeers seem more realistic and close-up
sometimes giving the sensation of a 3D projection without glasses
If this experience is particularly well-suited to action films
owner Xavier Orsel (via his company Ciné Zéphyr) readily confides that this screen works wonders especially..
allows us to rediscover forgotten details..
It's important to keep a close eye on the programming
which is very dynamic at this cinema (with many changes between new releases and the great classics)

when the group throws open the doors of its luxury houses to the public
And one particular house is a real highlight
LVMH’s most emblematic site is Asnières-sur-Seine to the northwest of Paris
both the location of the family home of the eponymous Louis Vuitton founder and the original workshop he opened in 1859
The Louis Vuitton ateliers were built in steel and glass
in the futuristic style popularized by Gustave Eiffel while the Art Nouveau family home was constructed in current form towards the end of the 19th century
Louis Vuitton has its origins as a trunk maker and the Asnières atelier is the site where this legacy continues in contemporary form
The 300 artisans employed there construct the trunks or ‘malles’ that the house makes to order — by hand
using both the traditional processes and fabrications of the originals

As well as visiting aforementioned Art Nouveau house
Les Journées Particulières visitors will get an induction into this savoir-faire
The skeleton and drawers are constructed in poplar wood by carpenters which is lined in fabric for protection before the draws and interiors are covered in leather and the exterior in that monogrammed coated canvas
The protective border or ‘lozine’ is nailed in place and the hardware and locks fitted
Each lock is engraved with a unique serial number so if you lose your key it can be easily replaced
While the largest trunk this writer saw on her on Les Journées Particulières preview tour was a giant cocktail cabinet — involving a team of five craftspeople and three weeks’ work — there are many more orders for private clients that happen in secrecy
There was talk of a trunk built to house some 40 pairs of ballerinas and another for sneakers

On the occasion of the talk (Super)decoration + (Super)function
to be held in Bologna on 28 September for the Café della Stampa series at Cersaie
we will discuss the advantages of using ceramics in architectural projects
His research is distinguished by an approach to architectural design that is always attentive to the themes of the city and the territory
graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Genoa in 1992
a studio that subsequently changed its name to Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia in 2017
With the experience gained in more than 25 years of design work
develops several projects on an international architectural scale
ceramic cladding contributes to the reaffirmation of decoration as an expressive component of the overall project
we can in fact pick out several architectures that stand out for the material research proposed in the façade system
wood and fibre cement combined with traditional plaster
Ceramic is a dialoguing and changing presence at different times of day
and contributes to the interaction between buildings
The use of ceramics in its three-dimensional guise has become Femia’s hallmark
with the Casalgrande Padana ceramics company
a diamond cladding that emphasises the volumetry of the tile by accentuating the luminous effects resulting from the refraction of light on the surface
Among Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia’s projects made unique and original by the three-dimensional use of ceramics
a residential project developed within the Milan 3 district
which is characterised by the ceramic cladding of the façades
Thanks to the three-dimensional volume of the Diamante collection applied on the façade
the perception of the buildings changes according to the light and perspective points
making the colour and compositional relationship change
Another project that is characterised by the bringing into play of decoration through the use of ceramics is The Gardens of Gabriel
a residential complex of four buildings and a shop in Asnières-sur-Seine
The programme consists of 144 residential units and 39 social residences ranging from the first to the eighth floor
Emblematic for dealing with the use of ceramics in the designer’s practice is undoubtedly one of the best-known of his projects: the redevelopment of the Docks in Marseilles
a historic 19th-century complex consisting of four warehouses articulated around internal courtyards
The project redefined the courtyards into commercial areas
transformed into a true urban project with services open to the community
ceramics is the absolute protagonist through two distinct application methods: by fragmentation and skilful recomposition of the material laid according to a precise application scheme; and by superimposition through ceramic elements made to design

SaveSave this storySaveLess than a year after Louis Vuitton unveiled its startlingly angular Frank Gehry–designed Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris
the luxury brand has opened its petite counterpart
what better time than couture week to fling open to the doors (and garden gates) to one of the most exclusive locations in France: Louis Vuitton’s historic home and atelier located in the Paris suburb
Vuitton built the famed residence—where fashion types sipped on Champagne and green juice Sunday afternoon—in the Seine-side suburb in 1959
Production had outgrown his petite Paris atelier and in this new
riverside locale he could easily import poplar wood—it arrived atop a Louis Vuitton barge—for his hefty
He soon built a series of structures in the glass-and-steel Eiffel style
bore witness to a sum of history-making events—the creation of the brand’s signature Monogram pattern
the Houdini Challenge to test its patented locks—and countless family dinners of pot au feu
Though the family moved out of the home in 1964
For the permanent show in the newly opened La Galerie—a stark series of rooms with vaulted steel-and-wood ceilings—curator Judith Clark sifted through 165,000 documents and 23,000 objects to select a handful of pieces that would give insight into the storied history of the brand
never-before-seen items like Gaston-Louis Vuitton’s letters
and Frank Gehry’s design for Fondation Louis Vuitton join luggage
and clothing created by the label over the years
Inspired by a wood cube puzzle she found in the archives
Clark displayed all of the objects and clothing
in and around arrangements of poplar boxes or wood planks on wheels

Welcome to the temple of patisserie in Asnières: here
everything has been designed to put gourmet pleasures centre stage
a coffeeshop that puts sharing in the spotlight
and a boutique that puts craftsmanship and small brands in the spotlight
to unearth a host of quality items for your birthdays
Behind Maison Fika
you'll find Julia and Nicolas in the kitchen (or at the cash register)
prepares the coffees and serves the Känelbullar fresh from the oven
and from the moment you step through the door
And that's exactly what Maison Fika is all about: making it an event that promotes "fika"
that moment of sharing that Swedes make a point of celebrating
The Swedish way of life can be found everywhere: in the coffeeshop's comforting menu and its XXL hot drinks
you'll find a wooden hut for the little ones to play in
while the adults relax on the nearby sofas
tea or hot chai latte with its cloud of foam..
For a snack, go for the Känelbullar, the Scandinavian cinnamon buns that Julia prepares, caramelized on the outside and melt-in-the-mouth on the inside. During the week, Café Fika welcomes coworkers looking for a quiet place to work, then on Wednesdays and weekends, the place spontaneously becomes a kid-friendly café
On the program: a homemade galette des rois
the children (aged 6 and over) roll out the pastry
fill the piping bags and hide the fava beans
(almost) religiously following the pastry chef's advice
Outside the month of January, every Saturday Maison Fika offers children's workshops
"We teach children how to make homemade alternatives to store-bought cakes," explains Julia
In fact, Maison Fika could well become the next must-see spot to celebrateyour child's birthday : the venue offers workshops for the occasion
with a homemade cake by Constance and Julia
All you have to do is choose the theme of the party with your child
and the two pastry chefs will create a tailor-made cake
Julia and Constance can create the cakes of your dreams - just order them in-store or by phone
fine viennoiseries and fresh herb pastries
which opened its doors on Thursday January 5
what does Ophélie Barès have to offer us in her bakery
you'll find a fine range of breads made with natural hard and liquid sourdoughs
specifically made without additives or improvers
using ancient wheat flours such as Khorasan or Rouge de Bordeaux
French flours sourced from a miller in Chartres
The range is short but varied to suit all palates
You'll find breads with varying degrees of sweetness
Must-tries include the ultra-moist petit épeautre bread
Gourmets will be tempted by the petit pain cacao
you'll find the great classics like croissants
as well as small kouglofs and seasonal viennoiseries such as bichon
a kind of apple turnover topped with lemon cream and fresh spring herbs
While the classics are the order of the day for the opening
Ophélie Barès intends to bring her own innovations to the menu
as well as unusual variants that will complement and enrich the range over time
the Chef likes to combine the classic with the unexpected
Her credo and rule has always been: no more than 3 flavors per cake
not too much sugar and rather light textures
Among the must-try cakes is "Promesse tenu"
a coconut-mango-passion entremets that helped her win the final of "Qui sera le prochain grand pâtissier" in 2014
but one that still pleases and that she loves to make for her customers
There's also a range of more unusual pastries featuring the citrus fruits and herbs that Ophélie Barès is particularly fond of: bergamot
Prices are reasonable and based on those of a local bakery
€5 to €6 for pastries and €27 for a galette frangipane for 4/6 people
Please note that the store is open from 7am to 8pm
so closed on Sunday afternoons and Mondays
you should know that in addition to having won the final of " Qui sera le meilleur grand pâtissier " and having been a juror on " L'Académie des Gâteaux " this summer alongside Cyril Lignac and Desty Brami
this young chef has solid experience in the finest establishments
she cut her teeth at Le Meurice and then at Le Ritz alongside Claire Heitzler
at Le Cheval Blanc in Courchevel and as Head Pastry Chef at the Auberge du Jeu de Paume
After a spell as Executive Chef at Christophe Michalak' s restaurant Marcelle
she went on to become a consultant for the pastry menus of numerous Michelin-starred restaurants
why not treat yourself to a good bakery in Asnières-sur-Seine
There aren't many municipalities that have either the wherewithal or the technical expertise to run a full A/V department
but the town of Asnières sur Seine just outside Paris
After extensive research and bench-testing
the Mairie d'Asnières (Town Hall) finally decided upon a brand new Innovason Sy80 digital mixing console to complete their AV inventory
who runs the AV department with department head William Baruch
has been familiar with Innovason since the beginning
and has followed the company's technical development with interest
"I was fascinated by the Muxipaire (digital snake) when it first came out
and when we bought our first digital console in 2002
but we are reaching the ceiling of its limitations in terms of mix capacity
and our analogue console just doesn't offer us the flexibility we need to handle monitors."
Having strong relationships with a number rental companies
Plenier was therefore able to try out just about everything the market had to offer in terms of digital consoles
"In every case the compromises were simply too numerous to justify the outlay - not enough flexibility
plus we really didn't want to get into scrolling through pages of scenes to find what we needed in the mix
nor did we want to be limited in terms of stereo mixes
We were also looking for EtherSound network capability
"We'd seen nothing so far that really jumped out at us
Sales and marketing director Xavier Pion and technical guru Matthieu Le Failler brought along an Sy48 and an Sy80
and after just a few hours of demos and testing
I and my technical team were all completely sold
We opted for an Sy80 equipped with 48 preamps and 24 outputs
and in 2009 we are planning to invest in an LX6464ES sound card for multitrack digital recording
"So what do we love about the Sy80?" continued Plenier
you don't have to configure your patch to the console
but you can adapt your console to the patch - we are no longer limited by the architecture of the console
because you can designate any function to any fader
and the quality of the effects makes this console very easy to work on
and the quality of what you can achieve is just magnificent
the fact that Innovason consoles are so easy to operate makes them a real godsend when we've got visiting engineers
because they are usually up and running in no time
We're also seeing Innovason appearing on more and more French riders
which merely confirms our view that the Sy80 is the perfect console for us in every way."
