Temp-controlled radiofrequency tech developer Thermi said this week that the FDA granted it a notice of completion following an inquiry on products used in “vaginal rejuvenation” procedures
Texas-based Thermi received a notice from the FDA on July 24 regarding specific claims about the company’s ThermiVa device
The ThermiVa is a non-ablative RF device cleared by the FDA for use in dermatological and general surgical procedures for electrocoagulation and hemostasis
The ThermiVa is intended to be used in in-office treatments using temperature-controlled RF energy to gently heat tissue
The company added that it only markets its devices based on FDA-cleared indications
In July, FDA head Dr. Scott Gottlieb released a statement warning about “vaginal rejuvenation” procedures intended to treat conditions related to menopause
saying that the products used in the procedures “don’t have adequate evidence to support their use for this purpose.”

local media and AFP journalists at the scene have reported
Furious residents yelling "go back to Turkey" tried to prevent a boat carrying migrants from disembarking on the island
Migrants tried to cross into Europe in larger numbers after the Turkish government said they would no longer prevent refugees from travelling to Europe after 33 of its troops were killed in northern Syria
An estimated 13,000 migrants travelled to Turkey's border with Greece
the International Organisation for Migration said in a statement
Some of those who spent the night at the border included families with young children
Greece is determined to stop migrants attempting to cross their border with Turkey

They’re shamelessly throwing tear gas bombs on thousands of innocents piled at their gates
We don’t have an obligation to stop people leaving our country but #Greece has the duty to treat them as human beings!"
Watch a report on the situation at the land border in the video player above
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country already has 3.6 million Syrian refugees to look after and announced that the border to Europe was open
"Approximately 18,000 have forced their way through the gates but today it could reach 25 to 30,000
And we will not close these doors from now on
and this will continue," he said on Saturday morning
Journalists and observers posted videos showing migrants loading on to busses to head towards the border and some scenes showed migrants entangled in barbed wire
The European Commission and Council "have been following closely and with concern
the situation at the EU external borders with Turkey," said commission president Ursula von der Leyen
"Our top priority at this stage is to ensure that Greece and Bulgaria have our full support
We stand ready to provide additional support including through Frontex on the land border," von der Leyen added
"A situation like 2015 must never be repeated
Our goal must be to properly protect the EU's external borders
stop illegal migrants there and stop waving," Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz tweeted
The EU came to an agreement with Turkey in 2016 to try to stop "the flow of irregular migration"
The EU provided billions of euros in assistance to Turkey as part of the deal

The Interreg eOUTLAND project has helped enhance protection of NATURA 2000 and other protected areas in the cross-border regions of Central Macedonia
This was achieved by expanding the capacity
and support structures of existing civil protection volunteer groups through specialised training
The Interreg eOUTLAND project has promoted civil protection volunteerism on both sides of the border and has proven to be a valuable tool for providing volunteers with personal safety garments
and technological support of a high standard
Common cross-border activities have included multiple and single-day training sessions
These have enabled civil protection volunteers
project staff and civilians to get to know each others’ culture
Guidebooks and study material on natural disasters and civil protection have been compiled
Volunteers were provided with personal safety and field equipment
All of this has helped to promote civil protection volunteerism on both sides of the border
Volunteers from both countries have already started to put into practise what they have gained so far
Specialised vehicles and other equipment provided via the project
have already been deployed in the field and are being used in training
during efforts to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic
and border posts between Greece and Bulgaria
Like any cross-border project for groups from different nations
eOUTLAND’s major challenge was quickly identified as differences between civil protection mechanisms in Greece and Bulgaria
Although there is no significant environmental deviation in the cross-border area
cultural and historical factors have shaped totally different administration structures put in place to prevent and manage natural disasters
Bringing the two different systems together to create common training and operating standards was a notable achievement
As the project was never intended to create new jobs
its core element is the selfless participation volunteers against the impact of natural disasters
indirect job benefits may follow after the establishment of a mature civil protection volunteer network and the need for permanent professional and scientific support staff
with an initial completion date of September 2019
An extension until the end of June 2020 was approved because almost all the goals were interconnected and demanded the participation of all beneficiaries
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused serious delays and a further extension is under discussion
additional activities have been suggested for 12 more months
Total investment for the project “eOUTLAND: Protecting biodiversity at NATURA 2000 sites and other protected areas from natural hazards through a certified framework for cross-border education
training and support of civil protection volunteers based on innovation and new technologies” is EUR 1 207 831
with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 1 026 648 through the “Cooperation Programme Interreg V-A Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020” for the 2014-2020 programming period
The investment falls under the priority “Environment and Climate”

ThermiBreast is a nonsurgical, scar-free treatment that uses radiofrequency (RF) to treat mild sagging of the breasts and nipples with little downtime. Part of the Thermi family of treatments, which includes ThermiTight
the treatment works by delivering RF energy under the patient’s skin
causing it to contract and create a subtle lifting effect
and because it stimulates new collagen production
your breasts should continue to tighten for up to a year
In early studies, ThermiBreast lifted the nipple anywhere from 1–5 cm [0.4–2 inches], but results vary, says Dr. Kenneth Bermudez
Other doctors point out that it’s not possible to anticipate the degree of breast tightening prior to the procedure
“It will contract and tighten skin, but the question is, how much?” says Fayetteville, North Carolina, facial plastic surgeon Dr. Edward Dickerson
we’re talking about going against a mass effect of gravity
It might tighten or maybe even up the breasts by about two centimeters [a little less than an inch]
It will not give a significant effect in terms of enhancing volume or lifting the breasts where we’re changing the angle of the nipple.”
Many doctors on RealSelf recommend a healthy skepticism about the procedure
saying that they haven’t seen it produce noticeable results
There are only a handful of ThermiBreast reviews from RealSelf members, but one 40-year-old patient says the treatment is “awesome” and helped return her mildly sagging breasts to where they were in her early 30s
scar-free way to modestly tighten and lift skin
Subtle results may be noticeable immediately
with continued improvement for up to a year
The treatment can be performed on just one breast
There’s no downtime; you can resume your regular activities the following day
Good candidates are happy with their current breast size and have mild to moderate sagging of the breasts and nipples
Results are unpredictable and can be very subtle
The procedure is not a substitute for a surgical breast lift
It won’t affect breast volume. If you want to restore lost volume, you’ll need to consider breast augmentation
Breast tissue will continue to age and relax
so results aren’t permanent—they typically last up to two years
Follow-up treatments are required to maintain your results
The price you pay will depend on your provider's level of experience and practice location
local anesthesia is administered to the breasts
a few tiny incisions are made near the areolas
The Thermi probe is inserted under the patient’s skin through these incisions and used to deliver sustained RF energy at a calibrated temperature
it causes collagen to contract and strengthen
It also stimulates the creation of additional collagen
The nipple area will feel tender initially
and numbness of the breasts that usually resolves within a week
but you may want to take a day or two off work
The incisions heal with no visible scarring
One RealSelf member reported developing a Mondor’s cord, which is an inflamed vein, following ThermiBreast. Mondor’s cord usually clears up over a couple of weeks of treatment with heat and ibuprofen, according to Munster, Indiana, plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Frank
Some improvement may be seen immediately, but typically it takes about two to three months for patients to see results. According to San Antonio plastic surgeon Dr. Connie Hiers
the tissue will continue to slowly tighten over a period of several months
Full results become visible 6–12 months after treatment

What Cool Advantage Petite. The lowdown It’s the same CoolSculpting technology that weknow and love (a suctiony mouthpiece that freezes fat cells before evacuating them via the lymphatic system)
CoolSculpting whizz Magda Szczukiewicz will apply a gel-soaked gauze to the offending flab
The applicator is overlapped twice to treat the whole area
It takes just over two hours.Pain factor The sensation varies
from the icy shock of the gel-soaked gauze to the gradual numbing as the device rapidly cools (which feels like pins and needles)
the ‘kneading’ of your frozen fat afterwards is less teeth-gritting than it used to be.Downtime Your arms will feel sensationally bruised
be swollen for a few hours. Results Not an overnight sensation
And three months is when you’ll see a real reduction in circumference
Thrilling.Who to see Magda Szczukiewicz at the Cosmetic Skin Clinic,8 Devonshire Place
What Tixel. The lowdown There is nothing particularly whizz-bang about this treatment; no high-frequency
But we’re not talking about a bit of warmth – this is ‘thermal energy’ (a whopping 400°C)
which sounds eye-watering but really does help to smooth a crinkly décolletage
The heat is delivered through a titanium treatment head
The tip of each pyramid is tiny – 120 microns
thinner than a hair – and these microscopic points are what touch your skin and deliver the heat so precisely (and quickly – the heat penetrates the skin in 1/100th of a second)
The ‘sizzle’ triggers a wound-and-heal response
stimulating the fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen and elastin – the stuff that gives skin its spring)
softening lines and restoring tightness.Pain factor The sensation is odd (like you’re being branded) but anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand
The top of the breast or close to the arm might feel slightly more tender
mercifully quick.Downtime The area feels immediately sunburnt (this lasts for 12 hours)
a faint grid pattern is visible across the chest
Put on a T-shirt and forget about it.Results After one month the skin on your chest looks smoother
will keep things looking perky.Who to see Dr Harryono Judodihardjo at Belgravia Dermatology
What Enlighten 111The lowdown The only thing that matches the pain of getting a tattoo in the first place is the colossal pain in the arse that is the process of getting rid of it
Traditional lasers work by blasting the ink with intense amounts of heat energy
causing the pigment to shatter (and a fair bit of pain and blistering)
which transfer the same amount of energy but without the damage and
Numbing cream is applied along with an ice pack until the area is pleasantly numb
then the laser blasts the offending tattoo (brace yourself) with a loud SMACK
It’s over in three minutes and that’s the worst of it.Pain factor There’s no sugar-coating this – it’s far from comfortable
things feel completely normal and only a little tender when prodded.Downtime The treated area looks immediately white
almost as if it were coated in a crust of salt
leaving a faint red halo that subsides over the next two days. Results Most tattoos take at least six sessions
to break down – an improvement on traditional lasers
Be aware that treatment depends on the size and depth of the tattoo
not the colour (as was previously the case – the Pico Genesis laser can treat all colours in one session)
and it is erased – for good.Who to see Dr Sach Mohan at Revere Clinics
What Plexr. The lowdown This isn’t a pretty treatment
Plexris a handheld device (it looks like an electric toothbrush with a needle instead of bristles) that uses a focused beam of plasma energy (formed through the ionisation of atmospheric gas) to wound the top layer of skin without harming the stuff beneath
The Plexr device is run above or beneath the eye area with absolute precision
triggering an instant contraction of skin fibres to create a lifting
The sound of sizzling as each minute ‘dot’ is seared into the skin
is reminiscent of bacon.Pain factor Anaesthetic is injected locally
whichis a good thing because the Plexr delivers a very uncomfortable shock-like sensation
It’s over in 20 minutes and the sensationat the end is a mild tingling.Downtime Less than surgery but still significant
Day one is all about swelling and redness – both from the treatment and the injected anaesthetic
Days two to six bring a whole new meaning to the term ‘racoon eyes’
and the carbon crust that has formed over the treated area falls away
SPF is essential and concealer can be used
no sun for at least 30 days. Results A course of two to three treatments is advised for optimum results
The new skin darkens to match normal skin colour
within a fortnight.Who to see Dr Maryam Zamani at the Cadogan Clinic
What Cellfina. The lowdown Cellulite takes many forms: impossible-to-shift pockets lurking beneath bottoms; hormone-induced accumulations on upper thighs and bumpy tummies that the trusty old Spanx just can’t cover up any more
the newest treatment to smooth that orange peel
there is local anaesthetic to the bottom (or thighs – it works well here too)
then a handheld device that combines suction and a motorised needle is held over the marked dimpling
The treatment works by hoovering the fatty deposit into the jaws of the device
before the whizzy needle releases the stringy bands of connective tissue tethering the fat to the skin (thus creating the dimples)
tauter appearance over the following weeks.Pain factor There’s local anaesthetic
Grit your teeth and bear it (for about 40 minutes).Downtime You’ll feel super-sore for the rest of the day (so go home and don’t sit on your bottom if you can help it)
This will last for approximately 24 hours and the area might bruise
but – unless you plan to parade around in your pants – no one will notice. Results Quite remarkable
The first signs of dimpling are reduced in a matter of days
but the two-week mark is when you’ll see a definite improvement
studies into Cellfina suggest that the results will last for two to three years
but the technology is so new that who knows?Who to see Mr Apul Parikh at PHI Clinic
What DNA Kinetic Face Lift. The lowdown Debbie Thomas
This looks like a big white plastic gun from a Seventies sci-fi film
before hyaluronic acid is blasted into the ‘micro-hole’
The procedure promotes collagen production
The EnerJet can reach deeper levels of the epidermis
It can be used to repair scar tissue and soften deep nose-to-mouth lines
but the Kinetic Face Lift is about using the EnerJet to resculpt a sagging jawline and create lift around the eye area
up behind the ears and into the hairline around the temples
and might also be used in conjunction with a mild peel
red-light therapy and other laser treatments
A minimum of three sessions is suggested.Pain factor The EnerJet is not that painful – a pop of air into your skin – but starts to feel a bit relentless
Expect roughly 200 shots.Downtime You can go straight out afterwards
as long as the lighting is dark and you are with very good friends
because you will have a series of raised red welts along your jaw that are impossible to hide with cover-up
A few rows of little red dots remain for about five days
but these will have disappeared within a week. Results After a session or two
and people will keep telling you how young you look
Which is always a good sign…Who to see Debbie Thomas at 25 Walton Street
£750 per session; £2,000 for a course of three
What Thermi 250.The lowdown Hands always give the game away: age spots
But the Thermi 250 is set to change at leastone of those
This snazzy new device (the latest from the Thermi stable
which also includes ThermiVa – excellent for tightening things down below) works to thicken papery old backs of hands
Simply by delivering radiofrequencyto the skin
to a depth of four centimetres below the epidermis (deeper than any other device on the market)
What looks like a stethoscope with a small
flat treatment head at one end is run back and forth across the skin for approximately 30 minutes per hand
The body’s reaction to this invisible ‘injury’ is to produce more collagen and elastin (crucial components in skin density andbounce) to heal the skin
Four to six sessions are recommended,at least one week apart.Pain factor None
the feeling of the applicator is pleasantly warm and rather relaxing.Downtime Again none
though there might be minimal reddening immediately after the treatment
(However this will fade after an hour or so). Results Rather impressive actually
Skin feels springier after just one session
Course complete and the backs of the hands appear more refined
A good hand cream with a proper SPF will help them to stay that way for up to one year.Who to see Kully Doug at Mallucci London
£400 per treatment; £2,200 for a course of six sessions
What Black Laser Peel. The lowdown Sometimes not even the deepest
most eye-wateringof extractions will dislodge the crap residing in your pores – all that accumulated grime and sebum and those dead skin cells
uses a combination of laser and a charcoal-based mask to extract impurities
The treatment begins with a quick cleanse before a thin layer of charcoal gel is painted onto your face
and as the hand-held device is moved slowly across the skin it delivers energy pulses in short pops
creating a heat reaction with the charcoal that literally lifts blockages straight from pores
(Watching larger blackheads around the nose be dislodged is apparently rather gratifying.) A quick wipe of any lingering gel
A freshly polished face is revealed.Pain factor The laser feels hot and tingly on the skin
especially around sensitive areas (lips and near the eyes)
is also slightly alarming (though you’re reassured that the smell is laser-on-charcoal
a cooling gel takes the heat out of a hot complexion.Downtime Skin looks immediately pink and feels fiery
but not so much that you can’t go about your business
Things should have returned to normal by the end of the day. Results Give your face a good stroke (with clean fingers)
And the glow is megawatt – with no dead skin cells
which seem to have shrunk without any grimy blockages to prise them open
Expect compliments.Who to see Dr Frances Prenna Jones
has all sortsof modes (it can treat more than 30 skin conditions
from acne to rosacea to pigmentation) – but it’s the ResurFX mode that’s got us excited
It’s a fractional non-ablative laser that fires energy deep into the dermis (but without damaging the outer layer of skin) to rev up collagen and bring fresh new cells to the surface with minimal downtime
The handset (it looks like a mini hairdryer with a ‘cool tip’) means the sensation of the laser on the skin is chilled
It takes just over 20 minutes to do the whole face (or décolletage or backs of hands).Pain factor Every pulse of the laser feels like a little electric shockto the skin
takes the edge off.Downtime Your face feels fiery for 30 minutes and will look pink for 24 hours
while skin is rough to the touch for a few days
not even your weirdly perceptive children. Results After four days
skin is crystal clear and much commented on
After two sessions it feels noticeably plumper and thicker
are recommended.Who to seeJude Dunican at PHI Clinic
