A long traffic jam occurred in the Tanjung Priok Port area
The length of the traffic jam reached 8 kilometers
The congestion was caused by an increase in loading and unloading activities

The long traffic jam that occurred around the Tanjung Priok area in North Jakarta on Thursday (17/4/2025) was never anticipated by Dimas Aryo Wicaksono (35)
he found himself stuck in traffic for up to two hours due to the congestion
After nearly 10 years living in the Tanjung Priok area
he estimated that yesterday was the worst traffic jam he had ever experienced
"The last time I encountered a traffic jam like this was on December 19
the very day I proposed to my wife," said Aryo
The father of two must rely on navigation applications to find shortcuts in order to avoid being stuck in traffic for too long
I leave the office in Central Jakarta at 3:30 PM and only arrive home at 7:00 PM," he stated
who is also an officer at Tanjung Priok Port
that the traffic congestion was caused by a coordination error in loading and unloading activities
but the containers have already been loaded
there was a buildup in the port area," said Dimas
Because it will certainly be very detrimental to many people
"We hope this incident does not happen again," said Dimas
The long traffic jam actually did not only happen this time. Reported from Kompas.com
said that the traffic jam of container trucks in the Tanjung Priok area is a common occurrence
the congestion that has been occurring since Thursday (17/4/2025) is an extraordinary event
traffic congestion was still evident from the entrance of Sungai Bambu village up to the entrance gate of Tanjung Priok
the Executive General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok
explained that this situation occurred due to an increase in the flow of container goods that will be engaged in receiving and shipping containers at the Tanjung Priok Port
This coincides with the conclusion of the Eid homecoming period and the post-restriction of goods traffic
Adi stated that in the loading and unloading process there were no obstacles due to the error system
both at the Port gate and at the container terminal of Priok Port
"It is certain that the loading and unloading of the ship is running smoothly without any obstacles," he said
He gave an example of one of the congestion points
namely at the NPCT 1 Terminal due to the increase in the volume of vehicles carrying out container receiving delivery activities
Data shows an increase in the number of trucks entering the terminal
"The spike even reached 100 percent," he said
the number of trucks entering New Priok Container Terminal (NPCT) 1 is less than 2,500 trucks
the number of trucks reached over 4,000 units
The operating system at the terminal and at the Common Area entrance to NPCT1 is confirmed to be normal without any problems
partners and stakeholders affected by the congestion that occurred
"The dense loading and unloading activity is due to the rhythm of the receiving delivery process at the terminal which is carried out simultaneously after the restrictions and to catch up before the joint holiday which falls on Friday (18/4/2025) to Sunday (20/4/2025)," he said
Adi is committed to continuing efforts to maintain operational smoothness and ensure that services to customers remain optimal
"Even though there has been an increase in logistics volume
we do not cease to coordinate with the police to assist in alleviating congestion at the Tanjung Priok Port."
the Head of the Port Authority and Harbormaster Office (KSOP) of Tanjung Priok Port
stated that coordination is ongoing to resolve the congestion issues that have arisen
He also assured that there are no problems with the system at the container terminal
The dense loading and unloading activity is due to the rhythm of the receiving delivery process at the terminal which is carried out simultaneously after the restrictions and to catch up before the joint holiday which falls on Friday (18/4/2025) to Sunday (20/4/2025)
"We request that terminal operators expedite the service for the receipt and delivery of goods and maximize the available buffer," he stated
stated that his team has coordinated with the North Jakarta Police and is making optimal efforts to alleviate traffic congestion in collaboration with the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) of the port
as well as implementing traffic diversion and engineering
"We also ensure the safety of truck drivers that there is no extortion and illegal levies within the port
Please report immediately if there are still any illegal levies," said Martuasah
the Head of the Traffic Unit of the North Jakarta Metro Police
Assistant Commissioner Donny Bagus Wibisono
stated that they hope car and motorcycle drivers can use the alternative routes that have been prepared to anticipate traffic congestion
If the driver comes from the direction of Cilincing to Yos Sudarso
the driver can pass the red light (Traffic Light/TL) Jaya to the left towards Simpang lima semper then towards Plumpang towards Pasar Ular
the driver can go right towards the North Jakarta Police or towards Koja Hospital or Jalan Yos Sudarso
drivers can turn left towards the intersection by the riverbank
drivers can turn right onto Yos Sudarso Street or towards Pasar Ular heading to Simpang Lima Semper towards TL Jaya Cilincing
for drivers passing through Terbus Tanjung Priok
and then continue straight towards Jln Sunter Utara
"We urge drivers who do not have urgent matters to avoid Jalan Yos Sudarso," he said
A severe traffic jam that lasted two days at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta has caused significant losses
According to the Indonesian Truck Entrepreneurs Association (Aptrindo)
the congestion halted truck activities heading to the port
leading to an estimated loss of Rp 120 billion ($7 million)
Aptrindo chairman Gemilang Tarigan said the financial impact on truck operators included rising fuel costs
“The losses we incurred amounted to Rp 120 billion yesterday,” Gemilang told Beritasatu.com
The Jakarta Globe's sister publication
“There are many components contributing to the losses
If the congestion continues and trucks remain stuck
the losses will keep increasing,” he added
Gemilang pointed out that traffic congestion is a common issue
especially at the entrance to the NPCT 1 terminal at Tanjung Priok Port
A surge in vehicle volume has resulted in long queues at the terminal
“This surge in truck numbers caused congestion on arterial roads
We've raised this issue multiple times with Pelindo and other stakeholders
suggesting that the common gate at NPCT-1 be eliminated,” he emphasized
began early Thursday morning and lasted well into the night
spent over five hours in gridlock for a journey that would normally take just 30 minutes
“I’ve been stuck since 9:30 a.m
and only reached the port entrance at 4 p.m
but today was on another level,” Arifin said
expressed frustration after his gate pass expired due to being stuck in the severe traffic
The congestion stretched across major roads
and the Wiyoto Wiyono and Sedyatmo toll roads
The number of trucks heading to the NPCT 1 terminal surged to over 4,000
attributed the traffic jam to a post-Eid spike in cargo deliveries as truck operators rushed to resume activities after holiday transport restrictions were lifted
traffic around Tanjung Priok Port began to ease
and vehicles that had been stranded earlier in the day started moving again.
Harry Nurcahyo from the Jakarta Police Traffic Corps explained that traffic flow was managed using a system of opening and closing concrete barriers near the Kebon Bawang toll gate
“When there is movement from the Tanjung Priok Container Terminal
we will open the barriers again,” Harry explained regarding the efforts to control the traffic congestion heading into the port
The returning flow at Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal
There are 1,143 passengers by using 90 buses arrived on Friday (4/4) to Saturday morning (4/5)
Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal Administration Head
said the returning flow surge started on Friday afternoon (4/4)
there were 927 passengers with 65 buses arrived on Friday (4/4)
Then 216 passengers with 24 buses on Saturday morning (4/5)
"Mostly the passengers came from Central Java and East Java
It is predicted more passengers to come up to Sunday," he said
His party together with other related elements continue to conduct driver health checks and vehicle condition inspections to provide security and comfort to passengers
Health and security posts are also standby," he added
admitted she arrived in Jakarta after spending holiday on hometown since March 25
My children also start their school," she admitted

Traffic flow around Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta has gradually improved as of early Friday morning after a day-long gridlock that brought parts of the city to a near standstill
Previously stranded vehicles have started to move again
The congestion had severely impacted several arterial roads
effectively paralyzing sections of North Jakarta on Thursday

“I was returning from Kota Tua in West Jakarta and ended up stuck for over an hour
I got off near Ancol gate and booked an online motorcycle ride just to get home faster,” she said
said authorities had implemented several emergency measures
including temporarily halting thousands of trucks en route to the port via the Cikampek Toll Road
“We’ve taken steps to regulate the influx of trucks heading to the port
we expect around 2,500 additional vehicles to enter the area,” Komarudin said during a briefing at Post 9 of Tanjung Priok Port
we coordinated to delay truck entry from the Cikampek direction
allowing us to first address the traffic already inside the port,” he added
triggered by a surge in loading and unloading activities at the port
Affected roads included Jalan Cakung Cilincing Raya
The resulting congestion severely disrupted daily life and mobility in the surrounding areas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) is conducting a raid at the Tanjung Gurem Fuel Terminal office in Grogol District, Cilegon, Banten. Based on Google Maps, the address corresponds to a fuel terminal owned by Pertamina Patra Niaga
“The raid has been underway since 10:30 a.m.,” said Harli Siregar
head of the AGO’s Legal Information Center
The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina
and Production Sharing Contract (PSC) contractors from 2018 to 2023
the AGO searched PT Orbit Terminal Merak (OTM) in Cilegon
used by Pertamina’s sub-holding to store and blend imported fuel
"PT OTM is merely a storage facility; it does not have the capacity to conduct blending," Harli stated
PT OTM is owned by Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza
Harli noted that fuel blending should have been handled by a state-owned enterprise (SOE)
Investigators have uncovered multiple irregularities in the case
One involves collusion between Pertamina and PSC contractors to bypass the crude oil bidding process
in violation of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Regulation No
Another key finding is the procurement of refinery products by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga
Investigators discovered that Patra Niaga’s President Director
“Why should we pay for a higher Ron rating when what actually arrives is lower?” Harli questioned
investigators identified inflated shipping contracts allegedly orchestrated by PT Pertamina International Shipping’s Director

Lombok was a spot I had been craving to see for years
but for a very different reason: the infamous Tanjung Luar fish market
Over a year of planning, two years of dreaming, and a few months out we could taste the Indonesian sunshine and took guesses at what underwater magic we were bound to see. The initial purpose of the birthday trip was a scuba-diving liveaboard traveling through the Banda Sea up to Raja Ampat – a hotspot of marine biodiversity located in the middle of the Coral Triangle
But my friends decided on an additional rendezvous to Lombok
Indonesia: the island just east of Bali has become a common surf destination and is often described as ‘what Bali used to be’
has become well known as tourists and conservationists from across the globe come to peek into this foreign world and document the plight of these endangered species
Overexploitation is undoubtedly the leading cause of global elasmobranch decline
and Indonesia is reported to be the biggest shark fishing country in the world
While shark exports initially began due to bycatch in tuna fisheries
target fishing eventually resulted as the demand for shark fins exploded in the 1980s
Fisheries are extremely important in this area of the world
the meat is often used locally as an important source of protein
and the practice contributes significantly to livelihood income
Shark fishing has been going on for close to half a century now
but a combination of conservationist documentation and scientific efforts have brought attention to the need for management and activated efforts toward them
management in low-income countries is not a cut and dry activity
and therefore require some kind of holistic assessment beforehand for management to truly be successful
Although most of us were interested in going
only three ultimately committed to the hour-plus long scooter journey
The sun appeared from below the horizon with a peaceful
warm orange colour that contrasted the dirty browns and chaos met at the market itself
As we made the final turns into Tanjung Luar
the pungent smell of fish intensified as we encountered the bustling crowds of any Sunday market and directed in by local scooter control
many pointed and giggled at us and the oddity we were to them
we made our way through the front gates and were welcomed by women and men with buckets of all types of various fish species – some I recognised
I remember turning towards my friend Taylah and saying: “I find it so much harder to identify fish when they’re out of the water; it’s like they have a different look to them
And you can’t see the way they swim.” We wandered around a bit looking for a sign of where the sharks could be
when the stench started to get more intense
Both Taylah and I have been working in the marine conservation space for the last five years
She and I met a few years on a boat contracted to help control the outbreaks of Crown-of-Thorns-Starfish out on the Great Barrier Reef
the main objective of our presence was to conduct culling operations for these echinoderms
Their populations pose a significant threat to an already at-risk ecosystem; coral resilience is hindered by their sheer numbers and predation efficiency
All the staff onboard took that job because of the opportunity it presented: Voyages were undertaken for two weeks out at sea in some of the most remote areas of the Great Barrier Reef that have been virtually unseen by most
our main goals on the boat revolved around any interactions with unique animals
Every dive we would cross our fingers and toes to encounter a large hammerhead
or any creature we had yet to see underwater
our values of both marine animals and the environment are based around biodiversity
when we turned the corner in Lombok and found what we were looking for
Project Hiu (‘hiu’ being the Bahasa word for shark) aims to work with the shark fishing community and pays them to engage in tourism and shift away from this high-risk activity
The project has now contracted eleven boats to operate as tourist vessels
conducts research trips for tagging sharks
and has provided essential services to these underdeveloped communities
Her work inspired my thesis investigating how many other NGO’s may be attempting similar work
The first thing I noticed was the dominance of smaller sharks covering the market floor
Are they targeting smaller sharks on purpose
The rotten egg stench was mildly unbearable
though the people surrounding the platform seemed bored and unoffended
Fishermen on the boats tossed the smaller sharks straight onto the debris-covered sand – almost hitting another worker
trying to identify as many species as we could
We were unsure how invasive our presence was and didn’t want to walk on the platform to get a closer look at these species
I could clearly identify a blue shark and heaps of smaller scalloped hammerheads
both species I had yet to see in real life
But the worst part was seeing my personal favourite shark
next to two or three large scalloper hammerheads
While we stood there whispering to each other
a local came up to us and asked us where we were from and pointed out some of the shark species
though we tried to hide our true emotions in that moment – disbelief
All these sharks that we had once been so desperate to see in the water were now – in numbers we never could’ve imagined – lifeless on the floor in front of us
Taylah had to turn around a few times to wipe her tears away
My eyes widened in disbelief at the relentless number of maggots crawling alongside the edges of the platform
Blood and dirt on the platform were rinsed away as the market workers shifted from hauling the animals onto the floor to hacking off the fins of the sharks
“All of this for a soup,” Taylah whispered
deeply disheartened as we watched another worker measure the fins of the larger sharks
Once reserved for elites in ancient China to showcase their wealth
the increased economic status across China has led to an equal rise in demand for the dish
It is common to see the dish served at banquets
and other celebrations to represent abundance and prosperity
there has been significant effort to better educate shark fin consumers with shark sustainability concerns
a recent publication investigating preferences shows that Singaporean consumers preferred “lower priced fins sourced from responsible fisheries or produced using novel lab-cultured techniques” (Choy et al
Despite 1.7 million tons of sharks sacrificed for this soup between 1999 and 2001 (Clark et al 2006)
shark mortality could be up to four times more than estimates based on recorded shark catches
Other types of fisheries often have several tons as bycatch
while other sharks may be caught or killed both directly and incidentally by commercial and recreational fishermen
The media portrayal of sharks in Western culture hasn’t helped either
News reporting on ‘man-killers’ emphasises the truly minute number of shark bites
and movies like Jaws seem to warrant the uptick in shark fishing tournaments
I’ve met many surfers fearful of the presence of any sharks
having our heads under the water regularly
seeing the sheer number of animals on one day was overwhelming
We didn’t spend too long at the market overall
maybe around 30-45 minutes; that was the extent to which we could handle both the smell and the experience
None of us speak an extensive amount of Bahasa nor Sasak
so our engagement with the locals at the market mostly consisted of broken English and pointing at the different marine creatures
It was an odd feeling – I was finally at the place I had been so desperate to get to
on a vacation meant to ease my mental health
I had spent hours in university and in my own time reading about this place and its impacts
learning about the work different NGOs were doing to remediate the impacts of shark fishing
being guided by my desire to conserve and protect these animals that made me fall in love with the ocean
While it was easy to relate to Taylah’s feeling of heartbrokenness at the sight of these creatures meant to be roaming the open ocean
I also could understand completely how they ended up here
at least from the perspective of the locals here
They were just doing what needed to be done
And it just so happened this was the way that was done
I’ve thought a lot about my response to the shark market
It didn’t hit me in the way it affects many others
On one train of thought – maybe this is what happens when we lose our intimate connection to the world around us
we cannot feel the true extent of their loss
as I have always valued biodiversity and had a deep desire to interact with these animals underwater
On the other hand – maybe it is more an anthropological understanding
These fishers are sometimes surviving day to day or month to month
forced to conform in a production-based world
needing to prioritise a source of income over their own physical wellbeing
Or maybe it’s the impact of media these days
The shock and awe reduced in an age where we are constantly exposed to the worst of humanity and our negative impacts on the world around us
Whatever caused the separation between emotion and thoughts
it grew in me a deep admiration for the people working to protect these species and engage fishers
The initial interruption of this fishing industry can’t have been easy – convincing people who have fished this way their entire life to try to switch careers or help scientists
Local scientists and conservationists working with their community to show that a different path exists
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from conservation
it’s that it takes an extensive amount of time and dedication to influence and see change
And while it may be on an extremely small scale
any step in the right direction is something to be proud of

TEKS KOMPAS/MOHAMMAD HILMI FAIQTwilight atmosphere at Cafe Lupis Resort
Visiting a new place often provides a surprise of beauty. Sometimes beauty is not just about what pleases the eyes, but about things that soothe the soul. In Tanjung Selor
It was still early in the evening when we set off from our accommodation to a café that was only about a ten-minute walk away
but we arrived earlier than that because we had already taken the car on Thursday (16/5/2024)
it felt like we had barely just gotten in the car when we had to get out again
This is a common thing for first-time visitors who are not yet familiar with the area
The atmosphere of Tepi Kayan Culinary Place
we were greeted by bright warm light in one corner of a building that is still part of PT Pos Indonesia Tanjung Selor
Several chairs arranged around a table were occupied by young people in their early twenties to late thirties
enjoying their coffee while having light conversations
a cafe that emerged during the pandemic and has now become one of the creative corners in Tanjung Selor

Elang then recruited vocational school students to become baristas or waitresses while also imparting to them the importance of dreaming big
He set aside a portion of their salaries to be saved as college tuition fees

"We are moving forward together," said Elang

a property entrepreneur who started his business with very minimal capital
It could be said that he only relied on trust
It started with a landowner who wanted to sell his asset because of medical expenses
Ali couldn't afford the price of almost IDR 1 billion
He then lent his savings of IDR 20 million to the person for medical treatment while waiting for his land to be sold
Ali then sold the land per kaveling and it turned out to be popular
his capital increased and now he employs dozens of construction workers whom he taught to invest

Ali also published the book Property Business as Easy as a Smile
Ali revealed that success cannot be separated from alms
"I'm sure it will make our sustenance smoother," said Ali
prefers to give it even though the amount is smaller than what he wants to borrow
he is calmer because based on his experience
collecting debt requires more energy than seeking equal livelihood

Passengers get off the speedboat when they arrive in Tanjung Selor
one can take a fast boat from Tarakan for about one and a half hours from Pelabuhan Tengkayu with a ticket price of Rp 154,000 on Tuesday (14/5/2024)
you can enjoy the twists and turns of the Kayan River from the boat's window or choose to sleep in the embrace of the cool air-conditioned cabin
especially when we feel the boat is turning because it gives a different sensation
It is during that time that foam can be seen splitting the water around the boat
we enjoyed hot chocolate and hot coffee while snacking on fried peanuts
leaving an orange color that beautified the sky
The light reflects on the surface of the calm flowing river water

the warmth of the evening sun is enough to lift the spirit and body

One of the most barreled men on the planet
Rizal Tanjung has helped define surfing in Bali
I caught up with him to talk about his Momentum Generation chat group
and his 1995 cover shot heard around the world
And of course get his takes on the greatest aspects of surf culture
The greatest thing about being a surfer in Bali? That we are here. We’ve grown up with the best, most consistent waves in the world
And we have over 15,000 islands in Indonesia
And the whole world comes to Bali and wants a piece of it
And even though we have hosted well and shared our waves since the late ’60s
we know the greatest thing about Bali is that the waves are ours
The greatest thing about growing up with the Balinese Culture
so I grew up with the Balinese culture all around me
But personally I think the greatest thing was how Balinese dancing deeply influenced my surfing style
it’s really important to maintaining the stories of the culture
every kid in class here must learn the dance movements
they teach you how to be graceful naturally
from your own energy from within your heart
And that training formed my expressions when I started riding waves
I think it especially helped my surfing because I was tall and skinny and lanky
It’s hard to be tall and skinny and to look nice on a wave
Tall surfers can look really awkward if they aren’t stylish
The greatest thing about raising Bronson Meidy? To watch him win Indonesia’s first world title
But you gotta know we raised Bronson since he was 10 years old
I saw him on that first wave down at Lakey Peak in Sumbawa where he is from and it was just a pure natural talent
You could see that he had heaven’s fire on him from the beginning
He had this awareness in the water and one of his earliest skills that was amazing was he could read the waves and the sets and he was always in the right place
I think guys like Bronson call the waves to them
Just by being in such perfect sync with the conditions all the time
And so I think the greatest thing about raising him was providing the opportunity to bring out the magic in someone like that
and to be a good surfer these days you gotta have more skills than just ripping
So to see him grow and become a better man and to see the light in his eyes grow
And that was so great for my son Varun too
to have a friend and a brother and to always be pushing each other to be better surfers and better people
Our family is love and a team. You can see from all the other surfers like Filipe Toledo and all the dads and moms and everyone involved
And it has been great to provide that for Bronson
The greatest thing about surfing Padang Padang
Not having to catch a lot of waves to be satisfied
It’s not about catching a lot of waves there
It’s about cherry picking and reading the tides and swell and all the things that you must do to get the best one
you don’t want to shoot everything that moves
it’s the hunt for the greatest wave of the day
Another great thing about Padang Padang is the mutual respect the Indonesians have for each other
We watch and we really make sure everyone gets a chance
when I’m out there we will wait for hours for the most beautiful one and we all know whose turn it is to try
The greatest single surfing performance you ever saw
Watching him surf you feel like your brain is going to explode
and I have surfed with him in perfect waves a lot
I’ve surfed on the same wave with him and no matter what
you are almost nervous because you don’t want to screw up
but at the same time you feel like you are just playing catch up
There was this one turn he did at Padma Beach
and I think it was the best single maneuver I have ever seen in my life
When I saw it I asked myself what kind of human can do that
Fifty-three years old…and he still has that
he creates these special moments on a wave
which is the best cutback ever done in history
Greatest lesson you ever learned from the older generation
To be welcoming to people coming to out our island
And I have done this a lot of over the years
all the smiles and the laughter you get here
I think it’s why Bali is the biggest surfing destination in the world
they taught me to remember to be humble and filled with generosity
The greatest thing about that wave at Pipeline in 1995 that put you on magazine covers around the world
I was 19 years old and all that excitement is felt so hard at that age
Because I was waiting five and a half hours for that wave
And that taught me about patience in my life
Just be patient and good things can come your way
I guess the greatest thing about those is that it gave me a chance to express my gratefulness for them
And so that gratefulness that is such a big part of the Balinese culture had a chance to come forward in me
And you know it was Liam McNamara that gave me that wave
He just looked at me and nodded even though he could have had it
And that taught me a lot about how to do a thing like that myself
Plus I was just driving for the channel totally out of my body
all I remember is being underwater for awhile
The greatest thing about being mentored by Gerry Lopez
Gerry showed me the ropes about how to be a surfer with style for sure
but finding your style and being one with it
It’s the full exposure of what is inside you
you will be elegant and beautiful on a wave
He taught me it is a lifetime pursuit and I know I am still trying to find that inside myself
You know I was only 17 when I first stayed with him at his famous Pipeline house
And I stayed there for two North Shore seasons after that
So I’m very grateful that he took me under his wing back then and taught me
how to look inside myself and try and find what is there
The greatest thing about being one of six brothers
And how to grab a leg of fried chicken off a plate real fast
The greatest thing about surf tourism in Bali
Like COVID and the disasters and back during the Bali bombings
that was a sad time with no one around and it felt unnatural
but the whole flow of surf tourism as a lifestyle to be a part of
lots of friends and excitement and good times
It’s like being a friend to the world when you think of how varied all your friends are
how many different countries they come from
But our entire Balinese surf culture was born on tourism
A post shared by Evgenii Ivkov | Waves and Mountains ambassador (@surfinglens)
The greatest thing about being part of the Momentum crew
That’s so special when you are young
And so special when it survives into your adult life
I don’t think Kelly would be Kelly without all that friendship and competition within our group
It was such an important time of development for us all
constantly giving each other shit or congratulating each other on family and accomplishments
And it is hard to believe we are all still congratulating Kelly on winning heats
the industry was huge and all the magazines were paying attention and we were just riding the whole thing
The greatest thing about the gnarliest wave you ever surfed
You can be scared when you’re doing it
Pipeline was the gnarliest wave I ever faced
I mean even picking your board for the day is a big part of the spiritual journey because it’s you and that board that you are staking your life on
And being out there and waiting for the one that the ocean is going to give you is hard to explain
It’s there and you are just waiting for each other
The greatest thing about the future of Indonesian surfing
These young surfers are modernized and motivated
With the success of Rio Waida and Bronson Meydi
When before we were just stumbling around in the dark
Surfing came to us and now we have come to surfing in Indonesia
We have a whole new generation of rippers coming up and the government is recognizing us and we are on the right track to be more and more in the spotlight and on tour
And more surfers here are going to be able to make a living from something as incredible as the surfing lifestyle
I believe in surfing and I believe it’s going to spread from Aceh to Papua
all of us on this island are really happy where surfing has taken us and where it is going to take us

After launching a new terminal truck optimisation solution
it has hit a new benchmark of 14,914 moves in a single shift
This milestone comes as Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) celebrates its 25th anniversary and its recognition as the 5th most efficient container port globally
according to the latest Container Port Performance Index
Kaleris developed the terminal truck optimisation (TT-O) product that uses enhanced logic to assign truck moves
with automated strategy adaptation to dynamically respond to changing yard conditions
Using the solution to strategically plan truck movements across multiple zones
drivers received their job assignments 44% faster
leading to a 13% reduction in truck cycle time
PTP’s skilled workforce leveraged this acceleration to set a new record for the terminal of 14,914 quayside moves in a single 12-hour shift and 1,420 moves in one hour within that shift
Port of Tanjung Pelepas chief executive Mark Hardiman says
“The deployment of TT-O has already demonstrated measurable improvements
This success showcases the impact of bringing together our talented staff and the Kaleris team to drive the industry forward.”
PTP noted a14% improvement in truck productivity; 20% increase in laden truck travel; 20% reduction in quay crane waiting time; 11% reduction in truck deployment; and 7% reduction in fuel consumption
including truck GPS positions and job completion status
TT-O ensures trucks are efficiently assigned to the nearest available move
and optimises horizontal container movements across the yard

Having a career in surfing is a surreal thing
I first realized that it was possible when I was 15 years old
we had a big international world junior contest at Kuta Beach
and that was the moment I realized I was a good surfer
pro surfers from all over the world were starting to come to Bali every summer
The friendships you make are the most important part of surfing
“We want you to be the first international team rider for this brand
have fun and keep a smile on your face.” That was a good deal
Trust is the most important thing in any relationship
Bali has always had a lot of great surfers
But we’ve never had a local surfer make the World Tour
we have surfboard factories and obviously we have great waves
What would really help Indonesia get a surfer on the CT is more government support of surfing
Look at Brazil: The government in Brazil got behind competitive surfing and helped make it one of the biggest sports in the country
Now they have highly rated Qualifying Series events
so the surfers from Brazil have more opportunities to compete at a high level and get big points
because surfing is taken seriously in Brazil
That same thing happened with surfing in Australia in the ’80s
We have some of the best waves in the world
but not a single major [World Surf League] event
I always tell the up-and-coming surfers from Indonesia that they need to make friends overseas so that they have support when they are trying to travel and compete around the world
but the next generation of kids from Indonesia should do what they can to go out and see the world
When you’re young and you have the opportunity to travel
People are aware of the issues the environment is facing now and are working to help
They need to stop making plastic or start to pay heavy taxes that can fund the cleanup process
Companies that produce plastic bottles should be paying for the cleanup because they are a huge part of what’s killing the environment
It’s important to remember that you are always voting with your money
These companies don’t care about the environment
But we can let them know how we feel about that by not purchasing their products and cutting off the demand
That’s the simplest way for surfers to make a difference
Indonesia’s problems go beyond the environmental issues
and a lot of people without access to clean water at all
Waves for Water is a good example of another way people can help — just by bringing over water filters to help give people access to good drinking water
All of the new development in Indonesia has definitely changed a lot of waves
They need to consult with the surfing association before they issue permits for big projects that could potentially ruin waves
Just look at Nikko Right: They allowed the Kempinski Hotel to build a seawall and destroy that wave
The lessons we pass to our children will determine the future
I’m trying to show them how to take care of their environment
so take care of it.” I’ve learned from Bali
and now I want to preserve Java and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes over there
I want to make sure we have better trash infrastructure and we don’t overbuild
I try to just focus on what I can control at home
You should use it to make a difference — to speak up
One person can start a big change if they use their powers properly
Our surf world needs those people right now

Universitas Airlangga Official Website
UNAIR NEWS – As one of the best universities in Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga never stops to pursue the advancement of science
It was proven in the inauguration of four professors on Wednesday
Prof Dr Mulyadi Tanjung MS was one of them
The professor of biochemistry was inaugurated as the 542nd professor since UNAIR’s establishment
Prof Tanjung presented his research result entitled Natural Chemical Ingredients as Medicinal Bioindustry for Health Improvement
he mentioned that natural chemical ingredients were the source of knowledge to develop Science and Technology
ed) has a promising prospect to be developed in Indonesia,” stated the alumni of Institut Teknologi Bandung
The first born son of ten siblings also explained that Indonesia’s diversity mapping was essential to be developed in the medicinal bioindustry
the diversity of secondary metabolites compounds from endemic botanicals in Indonesia was a fascinating object for the downstream medicinal bioindustry
he also mentioned that this field has its challenges
“It is the main challenge for chemistry scientists to achieve a systematic methodology,” said Professor Tanjung
Prof Tanjung participated in the Natural Chemical Ingredients Research Group of FST and NMPRD ITD UNAIR
The man born in Padang Sidempuan actively developed a quick
and systematic isolation method using a conventional course
he needed the NMR Spectroscopy that supports HRESIMS
“The facility is available in UNAIR environment,” he revealed
Prof Tanjung utilized natural ingredients that were distinctively Indonesian
Mahang and kisampang were the two plants he chose to be his research object
Prof Tanjung mentioned that humans truly could learn so much from nature
“Indonesian forest is the philosophy of ‘nature thrives to be the teacher’
Plants have taught humans how to produce chemical ingredients for cancer cure and malaria
Plants also signalled chemical compounds to interact with plants or other creatures in their surroundings,” he concluded

This is the second deal announced by Tanjung Offshore this week. The first one was a long-term contract from Carigali Hess to carry out maintenance
The modern international airport announced by the Premier of Sarawak earlier has sparked various speculations
Many have been guessing whether the airport will be built in Matang or Samarahan
The major announcement by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Sunday was warmly welcomed by many
especially residents in the surrounding areas
They hope the area will be greatly transformed when the mega project is implemented
The name Tanjung Embang is set to be etched on the global map
as planes from various airlines worldwide will land there
are poised to profoundly influence the economy
and infrastructure advancement in Samarahan
The proposed construction of the new airport in Tanjung Embang is expected to offer great opportunities to stimulate the growth of this area and strengthen Sarawak’s role in the national and international air transport network
Tanjung Embang is located in the heart of the Asajaya area
providing easy access from major towns such as Kuching
Its proximity to maritime and land trade routes makes this location strategic as a logistics hub
If a bridge and other infrastructure are built from BCCK
distance will not be an issue if an efficient transportation system is provided
Just look at the impact of KLIA on its surrounding area
I believe the same will happen to the area around the new airport
By building an airport in rural areas like Tanjung Embang
rapid development can be brought to the surrounding areas
This means that development in the area and its surroundings will become vibrant—undoubtedly bringing positive spillover effects economically and socially to the local population
is now facing capacity pressure due to the increase in passengers and cargo
The new airport design will be inspired by the airport model in Doha
which can accommodate 29 million passengers each year
and handles all economy flights operated by Qatar Airways and flights from other airlines
The terminal has been expanded several times to accommodate the yearly increase in the number of passengers
used by all premium passengers of foreign airlines
the Qatar Airways Gold Lounge for Qatar Airways Gold Privilege Club members
and the Qatar Airways Silver Lounge for Qatar Airways Silver Privilege Club cardholders
Abang Johari mentioned that air traffic in Kuching is increasing
and the existing terminal building lacks sufficient facilities to accommodate the growing number of passengers
it is now imperative for us to construct a new airport
particularly because our goal is to establish Kuching as a central aviation hub
catering not just to passengers but also to cargo
The new airport can reduce congestion and offer faster services
This project is expected to attract significant investments
Sarawak is renowned for its ecotourism attractions
An airport in Asajaya will facilitate access to these destinations
increasing the presence of international tourists
Tanjung Embang offers ample land for large-scale infrastructure construction without the complex land acquisition issues of densely populated urban areas
Building a new airport in Tanjung Embang is anticipated to have a positive effect on property values in the nearby areas
airport infrastructure typically enhances accessibility
making the area more attractive for commercial and residential investments
the expansion of airports typically results in the development of supplementary amenities such as roads
enhancing the overall attractiveness of the area
demand for properties near the airport is expected to rise due to the convenience and higher economic growth potential
residents should avoid selling their land for short-term gains
The construction of the new airport will create thousands of jobs throughout the construction process and later in daily operations
With increased air transportation capacity
exports of local products such as agricultural produce
and handicrafts to international markets can be boosted
Residents of Asajaya and surrounding areas will gain easier access to major cities and international destinations
With the influx of modern technology and interactions with visitors from outside
local communities will have opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge
To ensure the new airport meets current and future needs
it should integrate green technologies such as solar energy usage
and sustainable building materials to minimize environmental impact
ART routes or express bus systems should be provided to connect the airport with major cities
and digital check-in should be implemented to ease user experiences
A terminal capable of accommodating domestic and international flights with spacious waiting areas
The cargo terminal should be designed to support large-scale import-export goods movement
along with storage facilities such as temperature-controlled warehouses
Runways should be designed to support new-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner
with the capacity to handle increased flight frequencies
Modern airports need advanced emergency facilities
High-speed Wi-Fi should be available throughout the airport
along with mobile apps to help passengers access information such as flight schedules
User-friendly designs with special pathways for the disabled
and tourism information centres will enhance visitor experiences
and conference spaces will attract corporate groups to make the airport a strategic meeting hub
Building the airport in Tanjung Embang has the potential to reshape the Asajaya area
establishing it as a key hub for growth in Sarawak
this area is expected to develop into a metropolitan hub combining modern and traditional elements
This development can also contribute to the state government’s mission to achieve developed status by 2030
The new airport is a strategic investment bringing significant benefits in terms of economic
it will not only meet current needs but also be ready to address future challenges
Careful implementation of this project and collaboration from all parties will make Sarawak more competitive globally and improve the well-being of its people

“Thank you and congratulations to the Premier of Sarawak for selecting our area for these two major projects
we never imagined that Tanjung Embang would be chosen for such big projects
What is important now is that the younger generation needs to be ready,” he said
is confident that the projects will not only become a reality but will also change the development landscape in the area
Pauji added that while awaiting the implementation of the mega projects
several small-scale development projects proposed in the area should continue
The Tanjung Embang area covering 15,000 hectares
is located in the Kuching Division within the Demak Laut State constituency and Santutong Parliamentary constituency
It currently has seven villages: Kampung Beradek
The area is close to the Demak Laut Commercial Centre and the city of Kuching
transportation from the area to the city centre will be easier once the construction of the Sejingkat Bridge to connect with Tanjung Bako area is completed
Tanjung Embang was originally a small village within the jurisdiction of Kampung Beradek
The name Tanjung Embang was changed to Kampung Tiang Api after two Lighthouse towers were built in the area in the late 1960s
The two lighthouse towers are still operational today
providing safety signals to ships entering or leaving the Sarawak River heading towards the South China Sea at night
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had explained the reasons why Tanjung Embang was selected as the new Kuching International Airport
saying that aircrafts would not need to fly over foreign air space while landing and departing from the airport
the construction of the deep-sea port is aimed at accommodating large ships to dock for loading and unloading of goods as existing ports in Sarawak cannot handle large vessels and are unable to meet the frequency of ship calls to Sarawak,” he said
He advised residents in the Dernak Laut area to prepare for the arrival of these development projects while urging them to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to meet the future labour requirements

itb.ac.id – Toward 100 years of Indonesian Engineering Higher Education (PTTI)
Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) conduct a series of activities such as international conference
and other activities such as public lectures and Studium Generale
These bring ITB to be the pioneer of Engineering Higher Education in Indonesia that envision Entrepreneurial University
One of the activity was a Studium Generale public lecture which carried “Entrepreneurship” as the theme and was conducted on Saturday (21/04/18)
used to serve as The Coordinating Minister for Economics of Indonesia
ad interim Minister of Forestry and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources under former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The theme “Entrepreneurship” is in line with the vision of ITB that shifts from Research University to Entrepreneurial University
This shifts is perceived as a good start by Chairul Tanjung
because research and technology will not be developed without Entrepreneurial skill
Entrepreneur becomes a main part besides research and knowledge,” he said. The Studium Generale opened with a remark from Rector of ITB
Kadarsah Suryadi who warmly welcomed Chairul Tanjung to ITB
Kadarsah Suryadi expressed his sincere thanks to Chairul Tanjung who took his time to visit and share his knowledge and experience to ITB students
He also hoped the public lecture could support ITB’s vision in producing Entrepreneur graduates that contribute to the nation and people. At the beginning of the lecture
a short film was played about Chairul’s profile and past strive
and how he changed his family’s economic condition
he mentioned about the different between the past and the present
about forty years ago in 1981 in Universitas Indonesia
I’m the one and only businessman in the university
A businessman that time did not have rivals
being a businessman or entrepreneur was not a profession to be proud of.” He then compared past situation with today’s situation
economic activities is currently dominated by “Generation X”
a group of generation aged 25-45 years old
But it is predicted that 10 to 20 years ahead
a generation that grow up when technology develops rapidly and information could be accessed easily
Millennials tend to be more consumptive and thus has to be balanced with the growth of entrepreneur
Development of technology that leads to works mechanization will replace thousands of human workers with machines
hence the need for people with capability to create thousands of works through entrepreneurship.Creating EntrepreneurAccording to CT
entrepreneur could both be born and be created
He told a story about how he ‘was created’ to be an entrepreneur because he felt responsible for his family’s economic condition
He also added that being an entrepreneur is about how an individual see available opportunity.“Everyone can be an entrepreneur
that’s the basic of entrepreneurship,” he then added
Chairul Tanjung then affirmed that a business do not need to be based on interest or educational background
exemplifying himself who came from dentistry background.“Everyone has the right to be an entrepreneur
and everyone has the chance to be successful as an entrepreneur,” he said
He added that everyone can start doing a business without money
“Money is not the main capital of becoming an entrepreneur
Entrepreneurs also have to be accustomed to rise and fall
So it’s not true if an entrepreneur has to have money capital”.He continued
“An entrepreneur should be a lovable person
because it (entrepreneurship) needs knowledge
All of these are accumulated to be capital,” he said.At the end of his lecture
Chairul Tanjung explained what he calls “CT Ways”
the way he passed through to become a successful entrepreneur
being pragmatic and being idealistic are not oil and water
seek the blessing of the God,” he ended. Some things that he emphasized are to “buy future with present value” or seeing future needs that can be developed today
and to keep on working hard to get more results
he advised for students to begin business from good intention.Reporter: Shafire Erdia Anjani (TPB FSRD 2017)
