I was going to write an article about CarCare To Go

but for the convenience and customer service/experience it is worth every bit

about how the operator of hundreds of Jiffy Lube locations spanning half the country is modernizing how it handles financial workflows with automation and machine learning
What business issues was Team Car Care facing
who support 500 Jiffy Lube outlets in 26 states
were using spreadsheets as their primary financial planning solution
This was at the time the automotive aftercare services market was exploding due to the increase in demand for used vehicles during the COVID-19 pandemic
those spreadsheets were not equipped to help Team Car Care take advantage of the significant growth opportunity the changing marketplace offered
When it came to scenario and demand planning
we simply didn’t have the right technology or tools
Why did you decide to solve these issues with automation
Our old planning system was more like a database
It wasn’t predictive; you couldn’t build driver-based forecasts that incorporated external data or leveraged machine learning
And with a 20-year-old financial accounting system
we were forced to build temporary crutches just to function day-to-day
Team Car Care knew we had a big problem to solve
so we set out the parameters for our new financial planning solution and made a list of must-have characteristics
We were looking for a system that could bring in a lot more dimensionality to the data to drive analytics and analysis
Team Car Care wanted to be able to automate manual core business processes and use machine learning models to help reduce reporting time and develop more accurate scenario and demand forecasting
What automation solutions does Team Car Care use
We are using Workday Accounting Center to automate financial processes across our 500-plus stores to create one experience for our in-store general managers and district managers
Rather than having to manually post data and pull reports once a month
Our accounting team is now able to pull multiple reports a day with accurate
real-time data that provides valuable insight into the business
We can also access our POS data through our accounting tool
which means we can take transaction data like the type of car
and use this data to inform planning and projections
Team Car Care is also using Workday Adaptive Planning with machine learning technology that has been a game-changer for our forecast and demand planning
we can forecast how many customers will stop by individual Jiffy Lube stores at various times during the day
then automatically feed that customer count into the company’s sales and workforce plans

The employees on our accounting and planning teams are feeling reinvigorated and more engaged because they’re being freed from living in spreadsheets 24/7
Rather than barely keeping our heads above water
we’re reduced the cycle time of our forecast scenarios from a month to just days
allowing several iterations to occur simultaneously with all levels of management looking at the same set of numbers
We’re also able to do more accurate demand planning
we’re able to plan 250,000 SKU-item combinations for our stores using machine learning models that adapt as demand and usage changes
My team participated in the development of the intelligent demand forecasting capability in Workday Adaptive Planning
We were interested in looking at key factors that impacted consumer behavior and our business on any given day
we pulled in weather data from government sources and fed that right into our plans
Team Car Care able to not only normalize our data in the past for those weather patterns
we’re able to more accurately predict that fewer people will be coming in for oil changes over the next couple days
This allowed us to staff slower days accordingly and ensure we have enough employees in the stores to deliver exceptional service when it gets busier
This has had a real business impact because we’re able to better serve our customers by staffing stores appropriately
Can you discuss any future plans relating to automation
I believe eventually Team Car Care will be using machine learning to forecast how many of the 500 products we sell will need to be in stock in each store and to automate replenishment
we have been working with Workday’s accounting and technology functions to move Team Car Care toward a zero-day close
we have the tools to automate tasks while improving day-to-day profit & loss visibility for our operators instead of waiting until month end to measure performance

an enterprise that partners with large employers to provide on-site car maintenance services for employees via a mobile garage and an automated scheduling platform

In the time between the idea-creation and the launch of the business
Walker and Warren received support from Tuck and Dartmouth
and drew on the Tuck network for inspiration and research
First, in October of 2015, they applied for a Founders Grant from the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network (DEN)
The Founders Grant is part of DEN’s seed funding portfolio and is available to enrolled full-time undergraduate and graduate Dartmouth students
and Dartmouth staff who are either the founder or one of the co-founders of a venture
Based on the strength of their online application and pitch deck
Walker and Warren received the maximum amount of grant money available: $5,000
They stowed the funds away for the rest of the fall term and decided to work on their business for their First-Year Project (FYP)
the duo and their student team interviewed potential customers to understand the challenges of car maintenance; they tested advertising by running a number of Facebook ads that were worded slightly differently; and they offered preliminary car service (wiper blade changes and interior cleaning) to gauge demand

setting up shop for one day per week in the parking lots of Adimab (a biotech firm in Lebanon

They opened for business on March 8 with two full-time employees performing oil changes
There are two crucial components to the business: a trailer servicing system and a back-end scheduling platform

Everything changed with the COVID-19 pandemic, and this was no exception for Mazda. A brand with Japanese Heritage (Mazda helped rebuild the community in Hiroshima after the bomb hit the town in 1945) wanted to do something to support and applaud the frontline workers during this difficult time.
Mazda set aside $5M for offer free oil changes and enhanced cleaning services to healthcare workers regardless of the make of their car. Many people loved the enhanced cleaning of their car, as that was contaminated most going to and from their job. The campaign was designed not only to care for those caring for others, but to also focus on dealerships as places of support, not sales.
Our social and digital support focused on engagement and community management, making the experience as seamless as possible for healthcare workers – no red tape or long list of requirements.
COVID-19 created a new normal across the world and Mazda knew its messaging had to be altruistic, focused on the well-being of others. Specifically for social media, we focused on the heroes rather than the brand or the cars – it was about empathy anticipating others’ needs.
At its core, the concept was simple; ECC honored frontline workers during the pandemic with a ‘no strings attached’ oil change and enhanced cleaning, but the effort was heavy on execution to properly spread the word.
The campaign also integrated an online experience on Mazda's website, integrated with CRM, and on-boarded dealers Nationwide. From a business standpoint, the Essential Car Care Program (ECC) was designed to position dealers as local heroes doing their part to help the community during the COVID-19 crisis, as well as build brand recognition and drive traffic and engagement at Mazda dealerships.
Overall, the ECC program was the most successful recent campaign with more than 1 billion estimated impressions. Fans praised the program on social media, through 23,073 engagements and reaching 344,739 users organically. There was a 7% increase over benchmarks for social sentimen. The creative resonated with Healthcare Worker Audiences, driving lifts in both Awareness (5.4%) and Consideration (1.8%) in a Facebook Brand Lift Study.
The campaign was so successful, it was extended an additional month.

you would have been ahead of all routine services and repairs
People in many parts of the country have been advised to stay home
and everyone should follow that advice and practice social distancing as much as possible
But if you have repairs or maintenance that cannot be postponed
the suggestions and tips below can help you keep your car running and yourself safe
Oil changes: For cars that need light maintenance
some quick lube shops can perform oil changes and other services while you stay in the car
Tires: Tire stores and dealerships are open in most areas and able to provide replacement tires or a more significant repair. Check our tire ratings and buying guide
Roadside: AAA told CR that it will continue to provide roadside assistance to members across the country
and its service providers have protocols in place to protect their safety and yours

A car parked for extended periods risks the battery losing charge

We experienced this ourselves at a couple of Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations
with an emphasis on maintaining social distancing
Jiffy Lube has more than 2,000 locations nationwide that can perform this service while customers remain in the vehicle
A spokeswoman told CR that most locations remain open
and Jiffy Lube shops have made adjustments to their procedures to address virus concerns
call ahead to make sure the business is open and responsive to social distancing guidelines
Another option is to use a mobile mechanic, such as those you can find through the large Wrench network
