#article-stream-0 .quote-embed .font-size p{font-size: 36px;}The city of Chiavari is located between Portofino and Cinque Terre
beginning in Genoa and ending at the Tuscan border
ranks among the most famous seasides in the world
with wildly popular resorts like Portofino and Cinque Terre
While there are still uncrowded hamlets to explore
authentic and complete as a holiday destination you can’t help but wonder why it hasn’t yet exploded with international travelers (but are grateful for the fact it hasn’t)
If your checklist for an ideal summer spot includes a place without mobs of tourists
locavore restaurants free of tourist menus
plus a better-than-average chance of sunny weather (in July and August)
For centuries this quietly prosperous city—Napoleon made it the capital of the Apeninnes in the early 1800s—relied on maritime commerce
agriculture and furniture production (the Chiavarina chair often used at weddings or for ballroom galas was created here) to swell its coffers
Post-World War II seaside tourism was added to the mix
Families came to rent apartments or book extended hotel stays during warm-weather months
and somehow managed to keep the destination a “secret” for themselves
A building facade with trompe l'oeil decorative detail in Chiavari
avoiding situations that can lead to overcrowding
and focusing on cultural events like jazz and theater festivals for peak summer months
“Chiavari offers cultural richness and scenic beauty comparable to the more famous spots along the Riviera, but with the priceless advantage of enjoying them in peace,” says Antonella Riccardi, founder of Prime Time
a boutique travel planning company in Liguria
“Most of the tourists I bring to Chiavari are European
but recently there’s been a noticeable increase in American visitors
inevitably exclaim upon experiencing the town
In contrast to many tourist-centric destinations
Chiavari lets you feel connected to the city and immersed in its native rhythms simply by strolling the main shopping street
an arcaded walkway reminiscent of Bologna’s porticoed corridors

Although it can be quiet in the evening (a lot of the restaurant action is along the side streets
Via Martiri is the prime gathering spot come morning whether for shopping or a coffee meet-up
which includes a mandatory stop at the large open-air food market in the Piazza Mazzini
Here you’ll find an exceptional bounty of fruits and vegetables
a good selection of local cheeses and connoisseur vendors who can tell you a thing or two (and do) about selecting the best fennel or asparagus
The last weekend of the month there’s a bonus market to visit on the historic Via Rivarola
a majority of shops close for an hour or more
another sign that even in high season the city remains in sync with the traditions and habits of its year-rounders
although the twenty-ish crowd tends to linger at local bars or caffès for an insalatone or large slice of foccacia
A couple of hours later the town buzzes to life again
you see people with umbrellas and rolled up mats walking to the sea
A long lungomare flanks a scenic coastline with a mix of public beaches and private lidos (Chiavari beaches have earned Bandiera Blu status)
is where you can catch a ferry to Portofino or Cinque Terre
Chiavari is known for its many gracious villas
in a residential area outside the centro storico
where you’ll come across gracious Liberty-Style villas
the legacy of the Chiavarians who sailed to South America in the 19th-century to seek their fortunes
came back to enjoy the good life in their hometown
located on Corso Garibaldi in another arcaded passageway
You can while away the early evening hours outdoors with a Negroni or Spritz (or when the weather is cool
But you could spend your entire day here: as per its name
Defilla is a caffè with plenty of local pastries to get you started in the morning or revived in the afternoon
but there’s also a restaurant and wine store that can have you at Defilla from morning to dusk
in business since 1826 and specializing in local sweets

Perhaps because Chiavari is still under-the-radar for many, there’s a sense of discovery when seeking out the city’s cultural attractions
you can take in thousands of years of Chiavari history at the archaeological museum
which includes Iron Age artifacts excavated from nearby burial grounds
that provides more recent insights into local history with period rooms and Genovese and Flemish paintings dating from the 17th century
Other highlights include the Palazzo Ravaschieri Museum with a wide-ranging art collection that reaches from the 15th century to the present
one of the country’s most important centers for memorabilia from Italy’s unification period
Both are located in the the palazzo that’s home to Chiavari’s Società Economica
a cultural institution founded in 1791 that’s long played an important role in the city’s artistic and civic life
The Cattedrale di Nostra Signora dell’Orto dates from the 1600s
and is noted for an ornate frescoed and marble interior
Chiavari’s annual celebration honoring its patron saint
is a major event in the city with a program of special masses at the cathedral
and a lavish fireworks display over the sea
The Cattedrale di Nostra Signora dell’Orto
once part of the estate of a local marquess
leads to the terrace and pool area at the Hotel Monte Rosa
is an essential stop for authentic Italian Riviera cooking
vegetable pies and pansotti are among their specialties with many dishes prepared in an ancient wood-fired oven
For fresh fish from the Ligurian Sea and and homemade pastas
known for its carefully sourced locavore ingredients
Another restaurant on the water is Ostaia Ca Da Gurpe Al Mare
with well-curated seafood options and great seaside views
Severe storms and heavy rainfall have caused widespread flooding and flash floods in Italy's northern regions
resulting in the death of one person and significant disruption across Liguria and Tuscany regions
intense downpours in these regions have led to rivers and streams overflowing
with the national media reporting several landslides in higher terrain
more than 200 millimeters (7.9 inches) of rain fell within an 18-hour span on Oct
while parts of Tuscany were inundated after receiving 100 millimeters of rain in just one hour
The severe weather has left several cities
grappling with water damage and transportation chaos
A red alert was issued for the Entella and Magra rivers in Liguria due to the high risk of flooding
Residents of affected areas were urged to take precautions and stay indoors as local authorities monitored the situation closely
A 75-year-old hiker was killed after being swept away by the floodwaters in a forested area
The heavy rains also caused significant structural damage
with footage circulating on social media showing floodwaters surging over Genoa's Sori Bridge
while tram lines in Florence were damaged by the torrential downpours
authorities have shut down primary and secondary schools in the most affected areas to ensure the safety of students
The Civil Protection Department has issued warnings across both Liguria and Tuscany
advising residents to avoid non-essential travel and remain vigilant as weather conditions continue to pose risks
as part of the Arte in Economica exhibition
invites the public to discover a work of great value: the Cabinet d’Amateur with iconoclastic donkeys
an oil on canvas by the famous Flemish painter Frans Francken II (Antwerp
This large-scale masterpiece represents a space where the 16th-century amateur
gathered his collections and rare and precious objects. The exhibition
part of the calendar of events devised by the board of the Economic Society
aims to promote and popularize the arts and treasures of the city and its territory
The event dedicated to the valuable piece will kick off on Friday
The presentation is open to the public and will be attended by local and regional dignitaries
The event will feature talks by Serena Bertolucci
who will explore the theme of cabinet d’amateur in the history of art; Sergio Gabrovec
Councillor of the Economic Society of Chiavari
who will narrate the work’s journey to its current location; and Andrea Lavaggi
who will offer a detailed description of the work
The beauty of the Cabinet d’Amateur lies in its countless details that capture and drag the viewer on a journey through past stories
It is a masterpiece that requires a deep knowledge of Flemish artist Frans Francken II and his historical and artistic context
The Economic Society of Chiavari has owned the painting since the beginning of the last century thanks to a donation; since 2010 the work
has been on display in the Quadreria of Palazzo Ravaschieri
The exhibition is divided into explanatory panels aimed at deepening the knowledge of the author
the historical and artistic context and the most curious aspects of the painting
The exhibition can be visited with free admission Monday through Friday from 6 to 10 p.m.
and on Saturday and Sunday also in the morning from 10 a.m
Visitors can be accompanied and guided by Lia Gnecco and Miriam Badalotti
On the occasion of this important artistic event
one of the treasures of the Library of the Economic Society of Chiavari will also be on public display: the precious “Geographical Atlas.” This illustrated work
in quo tabulae et descriptiones omnium regionum by Guiljelmus and Ioannes Blaeu
is in good condition after restoration in 2006
The event enjoys the patronage of the City of Chiavari
the Region of Liguria and the support of the Carige Foundation
“Art objects,” says Serena Bertolucci
they preserve within them a heritage not only of technique and style
in a surprising way: a work that lends itself to a thousand readings
that opens up endless avenues of narration
Just lend an ear or perhaps in this case ’lend an eye’ and let yourself be guided.”
“This is a very ambitious project for the city
which our board strongly wanted,” says Margherita Casaretto
Councillor of the Economic Society and project leader
"The work The Cabinet d’Amateur is being exhibited for the first time as part of an art review of the institution
The beauty and historical importance of this masterpiece deserve to be shared with an ever-widening public
A catalog has been produced for the occasion
tracing the exhibition and with references to the work on display."

Let's start from the beginning: who was Igor Graziani as a footballer?
"One of many, nothing special. But in addition to playing, I have always been interested in preparing matches, paying attention to the details of tactics. I played in Versilia, in Don Bosco Mazzola, in Lido di Camaiore. I met great people who taught me a lot, like Maurizio Adami and Giorgio Faccio. Then there was a first turning point".
"I started coaching the Camaiore boys and collaborating with the first team coach Mirko Pieri. It was in Camaiore that I started, for fun, to watch the games with the eye of a match analyst. It requires meticulous attention to detail but also a lot of sensitivity in relating to others".
"It's a long story, made of hard work and 'bets' on my tenacity. In the sense that at a certain point in my life, I started working in a bicycle shop in Forte dei Marmi, Coppa Bike. I had heard that in Verona, there was a training course for match analysts and I didn't want to miss it".
"They called me crazy.... In fact it was a bit like that: I went to work until 13pm, then I took the train to Florence, then another train to Verona: I arrived around 18pm, the course started at 18,30:5pm. With the scooter, I reached the place of the lessons. A couple of hours. Then again by train, to go home. I arrived in Pietrasanta around XNUMXam. A light rest. Then back to work. Luckily the course lasted two months, three days a week....".
"In Coverciano, in the years before the pandemic, they announced the first course for match analysts: I participated, I came in third place, the first two already had a job... The director of the course contacted me telling me that Entella was looking for a professional figure, a match analyst to join the staff: I made the choice of a lifetime that I don't regret".
Did you have a wonderful season in Chiavari?
"Certainly. A well-deserved victory, with a nice, human-sized environment: I had been part of the staff for a few years, always trying to carry out my tasks with the utmost professionalism. There is a need for continuous updating, but above all it is important to have the tact and sensitivity to interact with the group".
Reading a match as a match analyst, isn't that like playing it on the pitch?
"Yes, they are two different aspects but if you do your job well, if you have carefully read the opponents' movements in the videos you worked on in preparation for the match, if you catch your players' mistakes and talk about them with the coach, you can guarantee important support for your team to score".
And this season, Entella Chiavari deservedly hit the jackpot.

SearchStadio Comunale – Virtus EntellaStefano RomagnoliMay 24
Virtus Entella is the main football club in Chiavari
It owes its name to the river that runs through the city and flows into the Ligurian Sea
The company was founded in 1914 and one hundred years later (after changing several times designation)
it played for the first time at Serie B championship
the second level of Italian professional football
Its colors are white and light blue (in honor of Argentina)
while in the coat of arms appears a little devil with pitchfork in hand and ball for football near the foot (because Dario Costa
president of the Thirties and Forties of the XX century
Since 1933 Vitrus plays their home games at the Stadio Comunale
which was built with the name of the Stadio Littorio
The match of inauguration of the system was Entella vs
The facility was renovated several times during its history
abandoning the name that had been given during the fascist period
Between 2011 and 2015 further improvements have enabled the structure to receive the OK from the authorities to host competitions of Lega Pro
the head coach of Italian National Team after Euro 2016
trained the Virtus Entella for three seasons (1982/1983
Stadio Comunale is equipped with inside dining options
The bar located in the grandstand sells sandwiches
The water (half-liter bottle) costs 1,00 euro
Additional refreshment points are located in other areas of the stadium
Outside the stadium we did not find the classic peddlers of sandwiches and drinks
Stadio Comunale has a rectangular layout (and remember
with four sectors which are disconnected from each other: Tribuna (in turn divided into: Lateral – Central – Authority)
Distinti (central covered – lateral uncovered)
Gradinata Sud (reserved for local fans and from October 2015 entitled former footballer Ermes Nadalin)
and Gradinata Nord (reserved for visiting supporters)
Four towers for lighting rise near the corner flags
Among the Gradinata Nord and the sector Distinti is a big screen on which
run the names and images of the players of Virtus Entella
the Distinti (with alternating seats in white and light blue) partly covered and partly uncovered
The two tiers are uncovered and made with a metal structure
The playing field measures 103×62 meters and the turf is a natural-synthetic mix
All around the structure are small buildings of five or six floors (during the match some fans view the game from the terrace or the window of the house)
Not far away is the touristic port and the course that runs along the Ligurian Sea
The supporters are organized and more passionate following home games of Virtus Entella from Gradinata Sud
light blue and black paint this part of the stadium
In Serie B the most heated matches are against Spezia (the two cities are about 50 kilometers away) and Pro Vercelli

Editor’s Note: Since this post was first featured three years ago
we received a lot of personal feedback from people who have been enjoying having pretty
stackable chairs to use when hosting guests
we’ve updated the post for this season with some new picks
Folding chairs might fit well in your closet
but you know you never quite like how they look around your table.
Here are a selection of chairs that work instead
A few coordinate with lots of types of décor
I personally pull out my stack of ballroom chairs when entertaining and I really like how it always looks as if I’ve rented chairs–when they’re simply my go-to instead of folding chairs.
FOR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT AND A PEEK BEHIND THE SCENES, MAKE SURE TO JOIN OUR WHATSAPP STATUS HERE. JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP AND WE’LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN A NEW POST IS UP
The farmhouse chairs with a wood seat cost a little more than the basic farmhouse chairs
You can find the basic farmhouse chair in more colors at an even lower price over here.
but they’re an amazing deal for really pretty chairs
The ballroom chairs you see at simchas are a beautiful at-home option. We enjoy seeing them around the table whenever we entertain. Different colors are priced differently. The resin versions over here are lower priced and maybe more durable than the original wood.
They’re about $10 each and come in many colors
They’re also machine washable (just remove the foam insert when washing)
They last forever and blend in seamlessly to so many decors
Have never seen a chair that you could either fold or stack

Victoria is the best-selling author of nine kosher cookbooks and a popular columnist for Ami Magazine
She always has the words for bringing everything that’s in our hearts onto the page
While I appreciate Victoria’s article about guest chairs
when checking availability with the link provided Every option is “currently unavailable”
I double checked all links and they are all available
The children’s chairs are the only one which are not still available at the price that it was at when I originally wrote this article
Mine was to Israel and showed up as unavailable
I switched it to a city in America and it immediately became available
I think it might depend on where your shipping location is and availability is based off of that
Have you tried out the acrylic chairs with the gold legs for $30
so I want to make sure it’s been tried before ordering
so we don’t have feedback on them yet

On May 31, 2023, the European Union (EU) took an important step forward in its environmental agenda with the publication of a new regulation on deforestation-free products, known as the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR).[1] This legislation aims to ban the import and trade
of products derived from certain commodities — cattle
and rubber — originating from deforested areas after December 31
Bearing in mind that the EUDR is already in force and that the requirements for the import of Brazilian commodities will be enforced from December 30
researchers from Climate Policy Initiative/Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (CPI/PUC-Rio) have analyzed how existing Brazilian environmental policies dialogue with the European Union Regulation for Deforestation-Free Products and have identified some of the key opportunities and challenges this legislation presents for Brazil
Brazil has a sophisticated framework of public policies for the conservation of its forests and other forms of native vegetation
There is alignment between the objectives of the EUDR and Brazilian environmental policies that aim to control deforestation
reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from land use conversation
Brazil also has technological tools that will assist European operators in gathering information when conducting the due diligence process on Brazilian products
including: (i) the Rural Environmental Registry (Cadastro Ambiental Rural – CAR)
with georeferenced information on forested areas and areas used for agriculture
which can be used for the geolocation of exported products; (ii) advanced deforestation monitoring systems
such as the Project for Monitoring Deforestation in the Legal Amazon by Satellite (Projeto de Monitoramento do Desmatamento na Amazônia Legal por Satélite – PRODES)
and the Real-Time Deforestation Detection System (Sistema de Detecção do Desmatamento em Tempo Real – DETER); and (iii) traceability
and certification initiatives for the livestock commodity chain
such as the Soy Moratorium and the Roundtable for Responsible Soy
The EUDR thus presents an opportunity for Brazil to move forward in its implementation of the Forest Code and especially the CAR; to strengthen policies combatting deforestation and meet its goal of zero illegal deforestation by 2030; and to develop national monitoring and traceability systems for commodity chains
The effective implementation of Brazilian environmental policies can serve as a certificate of sustainability for the country’s agricultural production
potentially ensuring greater participation of Brazilian products in the European market and help open new markets
it should be noted that the European Commission has not yet finalized the classification of countries in terms of deforestation risk
so there is uncertainty as to how Brazil will be classified and whether this classification will be regionalized and/or differentiated by biome
Depending on the adopted classification and the required due diligence procedures
the impact on the exporting agricultural sector could be greater or lesser
This document describes (i) the context in which the EUDR was adopted and the criticisms regarding the EU’s unilateral approach to combat deforestation; (ii) the main rules of the EUDR; and (iii) how Brazilian environmental policies dialogue with the EUDR
considering the opportunities and challenges of the Forest Code
policies to control and combat deforestation
as well as initiatives for monitoring and traceability in the commodity chain
and biodiversity loss caused by the production of imported commodities
the Green Deal also relies on international trade policies such as the EUDR as one of the ways to achieve its objectives
Moreover, the EUDR ends up favoring countries that have expanded agricultural production at the expense of converting their natural vegetation. Brazil is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of food, yet it has still conserved 64% of its native vegetation.[14] The new EUDR rules impose diligence and additional costs on producers in countries that need to reconcile increasing
agricultural production with the protection of their forests, without offering a reward for the sustainability of their commodities. To minimize the risks, European operators may prefer products from countries that do not face the same challenge. The EU itself acknowledges, in the EUDR risk assessment, that the regulation could have a negative impact on Brazil and favor the United States.[15] In this sense
the regulation does not necessarily help countries that need to conserve forests
because it does not reward them for doing so
The EUDR regulates the import and trade of products derived from commodities — cattle
These products must be “deforestation-free”
meaning they cannot originate from areas of deforested or degraded forests after December 31
The commodities and derived products falling under the regulation’s scope are those listed in its Annex 1
the regulation allows for the possibility of future inclusion of new products from the same commodities or products from new commodities
Operators[18] and major traders[19] in the European Union will need to conduct due diligence process to demonstrate that products are free from deforestation before making them available on the European market
Due diligence comprises three stages: (i) information gathering
and (iii) risk mitigation when a risk is deemed not insignificant
The due diligence declaration must be submitted to the competent European authorities via an information system at the moment the product enters the bloc
The EUDR establishes a benchmarking system to classify countries
Criteria for this classification include deforestation rates
will result in different due diligence procedures
requiring only the information gathering stage
For countries classified as standart or high risk
but also risk assessment and mitigation procedures
the EUDR establishes a series of penalties in case of non-compliance with the rules
Sanctions include fines proportionate to the environmental damage
with the amount corresponding to at least 4% of operator’s total annual turnover
confiscation of products and respective revenues
and a temporary ban on the import and sale of products falling under the regulation
Brazil has comprehensive legal and environmental policy frameworks that has been continuously improved to address current challenges in combatting climate change and preserving biodiversity while also ensuring food security and productive inclusion in rural areas
Considering the umbrella of public policies
three stand out in the context of the EUDR: the Forest Code
policies to monitor and combat deforestation
and policies promoting sustainable agriculture
including monitoring and traceability systems in the commodity chain
areas outside APPs and Legal Forest Reserves in which deforestation is allowed for economic activities
Legal deforestation requires authorization from the competent authorities and must be offset through reforestation
serving as an environmental compensation mechanism for authorized deforestation
The Forest Code also introduced an important instrument for the management
and environmental adaptation of rural properties — the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR)
CAR is a public database that stores georeferenced data about APPs
and degraded areas and areas with agricultural activities
Registration with the CAR is mandatory for all rural properties
The geospatial data from CAR can be used in the due diligence process by European operators who need to provide the geolocation of all land plots where commodities were produced
CAR data can also be cross-referenced with satellite images to prove that products are free from deforestation
they do not come from areas deforested after December 31
the adoption of automated CAR analysis tools — such as the dynamic analysis implemented in São Paulo and CAR 2.0
recently adopted by Pará — show that it is possible to scale up in analysis
When the CAR information analysis indicates that the area has liabilities in APP and Legal Forest Reserves
the producer must join the Environmental Compliance Program (Programa de Regularização Ambiental – PRA) and propose a plan for recovering the areas
Regularization parameters depend on the date of deforestation and the property’s size
and small properties receive special treatment
Adherence to PRA and the restoration of liabilities in APP and Legal Forest Reserve are criteria for assessing compliance with the Forest Code
It is crucial for the federal government and state governments to advance together in the effective implementation of the Forest Code
as these can be used for the purposes of the EUDR due diligence process
Land use change through the conversion of forests and other forms of native vegetation has always been the primary sector contributing to greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil and is currently responsible for almost 50% of national emissions.[26] Therefore
controlling deforestation is essential to Brazil’s climate policy
this number for legal deforestation may be underestimated
since there is not adequate transparency and access to data on authorizations to suppress vegetation
Another difference between European and Brazilian policies is that Brazilian policies aim to protect and combat the deforestation of all forms of native vegetation
while the EUDR only addresses the conversion of forest into agricultural or pasture areas
the impact of the EUDR on reducing deforestation in Brazil may be limited
as deforestation in the Cerrado or Pantanal
will not be covered by the European standard
Furthermore, literature indicates that gold mining, illegal mining, and land grabbing/speculation are also important drivers of deforestation.[36],[37],[38] Therefore
restrictions imposed on international trade in agricultural commodities and timber may not have the expected effect on reducing deforestation in the Amazon
the EUDR presents an opportunity for Brazil to strengthen its policies to combat deforestation and achieve its goal of zero illegal deforestation by 2030
Various initiatives have been developed by state governments, private sector, and civil society organizations to monitor and ensure transparency in commodity chains. Monitoring and traceability systems are being developed primarily in the soy and cattle commodity chains, but there are also initiatives for other commodities, such as coffee.[42]
The individual traceability of animals in the livestock chain
The country has the Brazilian System of Traceability of the Cattle and Buffalo Chain (Sistema Brasileiro de Rastreabilidade da Cadeia de Bovinos e Bubalinos -SISBOV) and the Animal Transit Guide (Guia de Trânsito Animal – GTA)
whose data are used in domestic and international trade
Brazil has public policies and technological tools that promote deforestation-free agricultural and livestock production while expanding production
contributing to the conservation of natural resources
This framework of government policies can encourage more efficient use of natural and productive resources
positioning the country prominently in supplying a growing population with consumer habits that value sustainability and transparency in product origin
The protection of Brazilian forests and their ecosystem services is crucial for the national agribusiness itself
combating deforestation is a matter of national interest
Given the alignment between Brazilian environmental policies and the EUDR
this regulation can be seen as an opportunity for the sustainable production of Brazilian agriculture to gain scale and a larger share in the European market
there is a need to advance the effective implementation of the Forest Code and the CAR
and progress in national monitoring and traceability systems for commodity chains

[18] The EUDR defines an operator as any natural or legal person who places products covered by the regulation on the EU market for the first time
[19] The EUDR defines a trader as any person in the supply chain
makes products available which are subject to the regulation
and processors can be classified as traders
or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are obliged to conduct the due diligence process
Traders classified as SMEs need to maintain a record of information related to operators or other traders
This includes: (i) those who supplied them with the products
along with the reference numbers of the due diligence statements associated with these products; and (ii) those to whom they sold the products
[20] Operators who on December 31
2020 were classified as micro or small enterprises will have until June 30
2025 to adapt to the requirements of the EUDR
[21] APPs are sensitive areas that are necessary for the preservation of essential environmental services
regulation of the hydrological and climatic cycle
maintenance of biodiversity and geological stability
APPs include strips of vegetation along watercourses; areas around springs
lakes and lagoons; hilltops; areas at altitudes above 1,800 meters; sandbanks; and mangroves
A Legal Forest Reserve is a percentage of the total area of a rural property in which native vegetation cover must be maintained
ensuring that natural remnants of each biome is preserved
The percentage of Legal Forest Reserve varies from 20% to 80%
depending on the type of vegetation and geographical region of the country
The law allows the sustainable economic use of the Legal Forest Reserve’s natural resources

Cataruga Tortue 147 – Il nostro video Il
The duo’s departure signalled something of a barren spell for the Biancocelesti, oscillating between the lower professional and non-professional leagues. The ambitious acquisition of the club by the Argentinian
briefly threatened to bring this to a halt and turn around the club’s fortunes
The newly installed president believed a blend of South American players and current squad members was the way forward
By recruiting players on dual nationality passports (something not seen in the lower leagues at this time)
the dream of Ciancilla started well enough with promotion to Serie D in 1999
But second season syndrome derailed Ciancilla’s plan
and Entella’s consequent relegation was attributed to his ambitious recruitment policy and sacking of four coaches that season
Ciancilla left the club in financially dire straits and
the Biancocelesti went bankrupt and spent a whole year expelled from football
the club re-founded as Unione Sportiva Valle Sturla Entella and finished second in the Ligurian regional league B
When one surveys the history of the club and its ever-changing circumstances
one factor does appear to remain consistent; their ethos of developing and promoting young local players
the club’s bankruptcy helped refocus Entella’s policy of using local players in a bid to progress through the lower leagues
Aglietti took Entella to new heights in the 2015-16 season
with Francesco Caputo netting 17 goals in the league
Aglietti improved the side with goalkeeper Alessandro Iacobucci and the savvy loan of Caputo from Bari
and ultimately only four points separated Bari in fifth from Entella in ninth
Breda was interim coach leading the ‘Fere’ to 12th-place in Serie B
With Aglietti’s contract not being renewed
it was the sought-after Breda who was tasked with Entella’s immediate future
a coach targeted for years by Superbi for his values and work ethic that resonated with the Entella board
the Primavera side led by Gianpaolo Castorina recently conquered Fiorentina in the semi-finals of the Primavera TIM Cup
They will face AS Roma in the two-legged final having dispatched Bologna and Torino in previous rounds
Gozzi’s ‘Entella Project’ looks to be shaping up nicely with the growth of young talent from the region and elsewhere in Italy disseminating the values and beliefs of the club through each team
Entella have come a long way since the days of Ciancilla
The academy structure is now robust and blossoming with female teams alongside the male youth ranks
One departure early in 2017 was that of Cheick Keita
the promising left-back joined Gianfranco Zola’s Birmingham City in the January window for just over £1 million
Keita was a product of the renowned French football youth system of Clairefontaine and just one of the many young players that now epitomises Entella’s philosophy
Entella’s Cantera has record numbers
It is the largest youth sector in Liguria and general manager Matteo Matteazzi explains
“We are proud to have reached this aim providing the opportunity to all children…to put on our shirt
sharing the spirit and values of our society.”
have invested in the area and value affinity among the local children and families
Every week a player from the first team goes on a visit to the fields of Colmata (Academy) to get to know the young players
the players of the first team go into Chiavari and Genoa schools to explain what Virtus Entella is; the children who attend the meeting then have free access to the stadium to watch a match
The team can but dream and keep playing the way of the club in an attempt to complete its restoration and reach Serie A
the future looks encouraging for the Biancocelesti
with the success of the Primavera and the astuteness of Breda at the helm
