Our top picks will have you churning out impressive homemade noodles
This sturdy and easy-to-use model exceeded our expectations
It didn't cut spaghetti as cleanly as it did fettucine
We wish the handle locked in more reliably
This extruder automatically kneads the dough and produces high-quality
Some of the plastic pieces don't feel very durable
This attachment is well-constructed and durable
producing well-rolled pasta sheets and precisely cut pasta shapes
You need an expensive KitchenAid stand mixer to use it
If you're new to homemade pasta, don't worry! It's not hard to learn how to use a pasta maker
you can start with any egg pasta dough recipe you like
it's best to use the recipe the manufacturer includes with the instructions
let your dough rest for a minimum of 30 minutes (an hour or two is best)
tightly wrapped in plastic or covered with an upturned bowl on your work surface
divide the dough into reasonably sized pieces — as many pieces as there are eggs in the recipe is a good guideline
Keep the dough you're not working with wrapped or covered to prevent drying out
flatten your piece of dough slightly with the heel of your hand or a rolling pin before feeding it into the machine
Start with the thickest setting (the lowest number) and run your piece of dough through
fold the rolled dough into thirds and run it through the two thickest settings a second time.) Keep rolling thinner and thinner
lightly dusting with flour as needed to prevent sticking
or by attaching the machine's cutter attachment and feeding the sheet through
Be gentle with the noodles as they emerge from the machine; you may need to pull apart strands that didn't cut through all the way
Each extruder machine will have slightly different instructions and recipes
insert the die shape you want and set the machine to extrude
cut it to your desired length and gently toss it with flour to prevent sticking
The very beginning of each batch produced by an extruder is often a little uneven; you can drop the ugly noodles back into the dough chamber to get remixed and recycled
To clean a manually operated metal pasta maker
Wait about an hour after using your machine to allow any remaining bits of dough to dry
then use a dry cloth to wipe flour and dough from the outer parts of the machine
Use a dry pastry brush or thin wooden skewer to remove any bits of dried dough from the rollers or attachments
you’ll need to disassemble the machine and wash each part separately
Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact procedure
Some pasta makers have dishwasher-safe parts
but we always recommend hand-washing to prolong their life
"Homemade pasta cooks so much faster than dried pasta, due to the water content," says chef Andy Clark of Gravitas in Washington
you have time to drop the pasta in the water and make the sauce
the sauce needs to be almost finished." It depends on the shape of the pasta
but fresh flat noodles can cook in about a minute
while stuffed pasta may take up to 5 minutes
If your recipe gives a range of cooking times
start tasting at the lower end to prevent overcooking
"Long pasta should be checked after a minute
and you'd want a little less than al dente because the pasta will finish cooking in the sauce," adds Clark
"Stuffed pasta should be tender on the edges where the pasta is sealed."
There is no one type of flour that’s perfect for every type of pasta
Different shapes and types of dough have different needs
“There are so many different styles of pasta
and each calls for specific raw materials and equipment to produce,” says Wright
etc.) are best made with semolina or its relatives
glass-like structure that ultimately translates to ideal cooking & eating qualities when dried
Egg dough for tagliatelle or stuffed pasta is best made with finely milled and sifted wheat flour with medium gluten strength.”
Egg dough is usually used to make long shapes
like the kind rolled out from tabletop or attachment rollers
an extra-fine flour made for pizza and pasta
While most extruded shapes are best made with semolina flour
some extruders can also produce pasta from egg dough
Semolina is also great for hand-formed shapes that don’t use pasta makers at all
If you’re new to the world of homemade pasta
pick up bags of both 00 and a bag of semolina to experiment
The goal with drying egg dough isn't long-term storage or hard
brittle dried pasta like you buy in the store; eggs are perishable
and food containing raw eggs should not sit out at room temperature for more than 2 hours
You can boil pasta right from the freezer; expect to tack on about 1 extra minute of cook time
but always start checking it for doneness early to prevent overcooking.Semolina pasta made with no egg can sit out longer
The ideal drying window for semolina dough is between 1 and 3 hours
Allowing air to circulate around semolina pasta gives it a rougher exterior
and helps set tubular shapes like penne to keep them from collapsing
Shapes made with semolina dough can be stored for months or years
and the cooking time can be longer than store-bought dried pasta — 20 minutes or more

Alessandro Massironi e all’Under 16 Leo Gosling

ecco classi e programmi dell’Imperia International Sailing Week 2024

mentre è invece Marga a dominare in classe Epoca A
proprio lei…)

Price $449Contact Audio Imperia
Sampling company Audio Imperia has some pretty substantial ideas
Its Jaeger orchestral package made us sit up and take note
not least because of the wealth of additional content
which included über realistic and lamenting female vocals
alongside some seriously impact-worthy sound-design elements
Now they’re back with a full orchestral package that’s ideal for those thinking of a first purchase
but with much to offer the seasoned professional
This is the first product in the Audio Imperia product line to get the Native Instruments library-format makeover
meaning that it will work perfectly within NI’s free Kontakt Player
you’re immediately hit by a sharp and elegant interface which will quickly get you to work; however
more elaborate settings are available via a click on the Advanced tab
One such setting is the much championed Sample Start pot
which allows the user to choose between an immediate trigger for tracking
which can then be backed off to offer a more realistic effect
especially when programming legato phrases
It’s a huge timesaver and one that enables users to get passages to sit right in the tempo pocket
It’s also quite noticeable that CPU loading feels quite low
partly thanks to NI’s Kontakt software coming of age
but even with about 12 sample patches firing
my year-old MacBook Pro barely registers any effort
Instrumental organisation is pretty simple
only made elaborate by the extensive number of samples available
The first option is whether to go for individual sample patches
the latter offering the ability to key-switch
You may consider the individual sample patch to be more economic
although all multi-sampled instruments are equipped with an extremely handy set of radio buttons
allowing for the instant offloading of any unwanted samples
So if you only need a couple of articulations
you can downsize the patch’s hunger for RAM very quickly
Instrumental control varies from instrument to instrument
although dynamic volume resides against MIDI expression in most cases
with the additional presence of vibrato being available for certain obvious instruments
it’s often the case that the vibrato increases with the controlled volume
sending many instruments to that point of excited agitation
which is how it would be in the acoustic domain
As this library is clearly at a price point which will make it attractive as a first-time purchase
there’s a small degree of inevitable trimming
Many patches are limited to single per-note samples
but Nucleus sensibly places round-robins in greater numbers on patches which are likely to be used in repetitive form
such as pizzicato or spiccato string articulations
Budget-dependent libraries can often dilute instrumentation
with all the main instruments firmly represented individually
although they also flock together within additional patches
so you’ll find two clarinets or four trombones
We’re also treated to six solo instruments
This is a break from what might be expected within a library of this kind; the only trade-off appearing to be a reduced articulation palette
distilled down to legato and sustained patches and basic dynamic and expression control
largely thanks to some clever close mic’ing – you can really hear the travel of the bow against the string
along with the depth of the resonating body of the instrument
The lack of vibrato control ceases to become an issue
as each note subtlety delays vibrato naturally
increasing vibrantly as you instigate a crescendo
It’s here that you can also appreciate the Sample Start control
as it allows you to maintain complete control over triggering speed
in order to get the perfect balance between sharpness of note beginning and backend neutrality
Given that Audio Imperia has a West Coast penchant
it’s hardly surprising that the default state for its patches is described as modern; breaking this down further
it essentially means that the raw samples have been treated with that glistening cinematic treatment
presenting a palette which is crisp and will cut nicely within a mix
which delivers everything in an untreated fashion
It’s fair to say that I didn’t have a preference either way; both mixes sound excellent
with the choice being instructed by your production style
Another area where this library sits proud
Alongside the orchestral section-based and solo patches
there are three distinct areas that go further than the norm
a complete four-part choir and a sound-design section
mallets and all manner of tuned and untuned percussion
which offers some distinctly cinematic-sounding timbres
with the larger drums and timpani bestowing gravitas
the choir is available as individual SATB elements
there are three patch choices consisting of ‘Ah’
I am aware that the extremities of pitch-range felt a little shortened
to the tune of around a third at both ends
but that should take nothing away from the quality of what is supplied
the sound-design section unleashes more of the infamous AI cinematic pads and drones
along with an effects section which will add to an already impressive sonic arsenal
I wasn’t expecting Nucleus to have as much content as it does
It’s almost as though the company’s pre-production meeting ‘to do’ list just kept on getting longer
as yet another element was drawn up for inclusion in the overall package
The flexibility of having all instrumentation available at your fingertips is pretty unique at this price point
although the pre-orchestrated content is also useful and could save time and RAM loading
But it’s the overarching quality of the content – coupled with the sheer volume of resource – which is the game-changer here
alongside a very pleasant interface which feels as though it’s been designed with workflow in mind
If you’ve thought about getting an orchestral library but have always been put off by the price
or the possible limitations at a lower price point
this really is a strong contender for consideration
while it covers the entire gamut of orchestral colour
but there are plenty of further inclusions that are not just add-ons
as is the sheer breadth of orchestral percussion
The sound-design elements are equally outstanding
in both initial trimming and back-end effects
while the numerous time-saving patches and settings
such as polyphonic legato and alteration of sample start
will appeal to the workflow-conscious professional
Orchestral ToolsBerlin Orchestra Inspire €399
Another very fine contender for the crown of budget orchestral library brings a similar-sounding product
which was recorded at the Teldex soundstage
but does limit certain instrumentation to groups
making the more common instruments available through individual patches

Cinematic sampling supremo Audio Imperia has welcomed a mythological new member to its family
Price £300Contact Audio Imperia
beyond its sensational cinematic-inspired instrumental samples
it’s the inclusion of sound-design gems that make Audio Imperia’s products really impressive
In a change of tack from the company’s complete orchestral suites
Areia’s focus is solely on the string section
with a comprehensive collection of samples
Its generous 68GB of samples makes Areia Audio Imperia’s largest offering to date
and underlines the depth and range of the sampling sessions
which were undertaken by Czech Republic-based Capellen Music Production
with plenty of colouration available via the clean and intuitive interface
you can control how many control elements are displayed
you can switch between two striking mix settings: Classic and Modern
Classic mode yields European colours and a neutral mix extracted from the raw session recordings
features subtle processing for a brighter and more appropriately cinematic sound
Your choice will depend on the musical leanings of the cues you’re working with
you can employ a see-saw fader to find your ideal blend between close and ambient mic’ing
the advanced tab opens a more comprehensive mixer with four mic channels
from close and Decca tree mic’ing to wide and ambient signals
As sample capture was undertaken in the drier environment of a soundstage
the distant mic signals never feel overly reverberant and chime with the cinematic ethos of the package
with Areia making use of Kontakt’s excellent algorithmic reverb
Generous hall and room-based reverbs are available should the dryness prove too exaggerated for your mix
Instruments are organised into their respective sections of 16 violins
There is no split between first and second violins
leaving it down to you to organise the panning if required
the instruments are organised into four menus
The first two are multiple or single articulation
Loading the multi-articulation violin patch swallows up more than 1GB of RAM
This example is based on the use of the mix-ready basic setting
while switching to the more bespoke mic-mixer option in advanced mode will use more RAM with the addition of each channel
with its ability to blend close and distant mic’ing
Using the onboard reverb places no excess on the RAM allocation either
which is handy if you’re tight on memory headroom and need greater ambience
As is typical with Audio Imperia’s sample preparation
triggering can initially seem delayed but this is by design
The sample-start function allows users to dictate exactly how swiftly they want their samples to trigger
which does away with any requirement to add or subtract DAW-based delay in order to get your timings to gel
with the crisp presence of the pre-defined cinematic mix
This can feel overbearing in isolation but when placed in a mix the performance is spirited and concise
Where Areia offers real enhancements over Audio Imperia’s other fully-packaged products is with its wealth of articulations
Many of these are new to the Audio Imperia line-up
and it’s undoubtedly helpful to have all these articulations in one place
The true legato patching caters for most settings brilliantly
While it can handle slow-moving expressive lines the same way many other packages can
its ability to switch seamlessly to more agitated and fast-moving legato makes it fantastically flexible
implemented using note velocity as the indicator for each line’s movement
Though this can be difficult to control while playing
the ability to edit each line onscreen makes light work of intertwining lines
It’s possible to use this facility with up to four notes too
so you can get sustain and suspensions across chords
It’s a shame that there is no panning control at this stage but panning does take effect if the same process is applied to one of the ensemble patches
which extend from sustains and marcato to spiccato and pizzicato
the latter using an onscreen triggering tool to place accents on a grid to implement accented patterns
Areia also comes equipped with time-saving performance patches designed to help users to get their ideas down quickly
as well as a pre-configuration of articulations with crisp front and backend sustain
It’s the best of both worlds in a single but effective patch
The full-ensemble setting allows capable keyboard players to quickly sketch out ideas without having to load multiple patches
Areia is another surefire win from Audio Imperia
The package plasters over any perceived absences in articulation with power and flexibility
It’s an excellent standalone package for just about anyone who requires access to comprehensive strings
But what about those sound-design gems we mentioned earlier
These additions have become a trademark of Audio Imperia
The Sound Design menu provides some amazingly luscious pads derived from conventional strings
and are a brilliant backdrop to the more conventional acoustic content
This is an easy-to-use suite that makes for fast results despite being able to go deep thanks to its polyphonic and mic-channel modes
The clean GUI is a pleasure to operate too
With so much valuable and consistent content here
don’t be surprised if you begin reaching for Areia ahead of your other string suites
Anyone considering purchasing a major sample suite will have a checklist to oversee
Areia is likely to tick plenty of your boxes
you’ll find that it has all the obvious patches covered
along with lots of lesser-used articulations that might prove life-saving on the rare occasion you require them
and you can control the swiftness of the triggering
making it easy to implement sounds in your tracks
which are radically different in tonal colour but both valuable within their respective settings
makes this package fabulously flexible too
But if you’re looking for your first string suite and want a variety of user options
Cinematic Studio SeriesCinematic Studio Strings £300
CSS offers a comprehensive suite of great-sounding strings that are darker in timbral colour than that of Areia
with a legato mode that reacts to the user’s playing in an intelligent way
EastWestHollywood Strings £200
Another soundstage-recorded classic, Hollywood Strings boasts a brighter timbral quality in line with the cinematic scoring for which it’s designed. It relies on EastWest’s Play plug-in and is available to rent as part of the ComposerCloud, as well as to buy.

One market that is becoming a fierce battle ground
is the somewhat befitting world of orchestral libraries with ‘epic’ tendencies
with a highly impressive array of sample choice and colour
Each of the included sections is divided into Hangers
with the first area for inclusion being Strings
There is no Violin 1 & 2 on offer here
movement from one note to the next is fairly gradual
This is because Audio Imperia has included a degree of control over the legato speed
immediately available via a control on the user interface
the resulting legato phrasing is swift and highly impressive
Legato patches are available for the Violin and Cello sections
while dynamic control is really effective and smooth
with a hint of agitated vibrato as the mood intensifies
it’s fair to say that Jaeger has a West Coast quality
so if you’re looking for a traditional English string section
this will not be the colour you will have in mind
What you do get is something quite closely mic’d
which I have to admit I found exceptionally nice to work with
due to its immediacy and the real sense that you can hear the rosin on the bow
As we move on through the numerous articulations
it quickly becomes clear where these sounds will thrive
The subtly differing note lengths between the Staccato and Spiccato
alongside a healthy number of Round-Robins
will keep interest in performance translation
rather replaced by the more epic Bartok Pizzicato
with the string slapping back firmly against the finger board
The rationale here is that Audio Imperia wanted to include a sense of space before the start of each sample
this could be considered a little bit of a pain
depending on the tempo of the music being produced
It’s very easy to move from medium tempo articulations
to up front and tightly-clipped articulations
making it a very usable facility to have at your disposal
The usual ability to key-switch is also accompanied by a key-switched FX section
which brings into play a patch-level set of parameters
which include such wonders as distortion and gating
These parameters are available from the centrally located FX page
with the added quotient of the tastefully named Big Knob
assigned effects will saturate the given timbre to induce a change of tonal colour
Particularly good for gently increasing distortion over time within the DAW
As if to nail the epic manifesto to the mast
the colour of the Strings Hanger truly resonates when working as a Tutti section
I was very taken with the original mix which comes straight out of the box
This could be considered a little dry for some
thanks to the addition of the Far and Wide microphones
without resorting to DAW based reverberation
The next two Hangers offer Brass and Percussion
with a very similar construct to what we have seen in the String Hanger
would be something that might benefit from some external reverberation
I found that the Trombone section did not go very high
You would expect it to go a fifth higher than this
but there is at least covering fire from the French Horns
with the Trumpet Legato coming in for particular praise
there is control over the legato movement speed
and within seconds I had Born on the 4th of July emitting from my monitors
the percussion section also sounded beautifully epic
with a great choice of compensated or non-compensated mic placements
the former giving a much tighter ambient result
Piatti and Snares nestle alongside epic favourites; Toms
with a Snare Ensemble giving the sense that battle could commence at any time
Hanger 5 delivers a non-orchestral area of sound design
but don’t make the mistake of dismissing this
This extensive selection of Hits and Drones is a soundtrack writers dream
and could easily become an indispensable arsenal for anyone in need of some impactful sounds
and became instantly bookmarked in my mind for future use
while the high-quality Drones offer otherworldly movement which could be equally useful in shoring up pad-like instrumentation
it’s a perfect product for anyone who needs a broad selection of cinematic orchestral samples
with certain elements that really do shine brightly
The strings may be an acquired taste for some users; the String Hanger has an intimate quality
there is a certain sheen to the overall sonic colour that lends itself to soundtrack work
and less to mainstream orchestral composition work
that’s the package’s manifesto and should be heeded
The vocal and sound-design hits are essential listening for any soundtrack composer
Without wishing to leave the best until last
Hanger 4 offers a series of vocal samples from Merethe Soltvedt
This section is an absolute treasure trove of inspiration
the Ahs seem to offer a slight change in tonal colour
but you soon become unaware of this in context
the legato aspect of this sample Hanger is really quite something
and easily in line with the quality of the legato samples heard elsewhere
One tiny criticism relates to the use of the release tail
however and Audio Imperia did mention that it is looking to rectify this little gripe
There’s also a selection of Sample Phrases
in this section which can be triggered singularly
Jaeger is a simply stunning library that exceeds expectation in a number of areas
There aren’t really any huge weak spots throughout
which makes this an excellent consideration for any musician needing an orchestral library geared towards media work
The Hits section in Hanger 5 will be useful for any soundtrack composer
while the more lyrical components found in the strings and vocal Hangers could prove indispensable
It’s perfect as a standalone library or as a compliment to an existing set-up
Orchestral ToolsMetroplis Ark 1 €549
Possibly the library that solidified the concept of the ‘epic’ library
this offers the user a diverse selection of orchestral samples at the louder end of the spectrum
The Ensemble percussion and Choir are highlights
Spitfire AudioAlbion 1 £399
This offers a full collection of orchestral samples with additional content, all grouped together in sections and immediately accessible. Highly desirable if you want to get results quickly, while offeringa great degree of expressiveness.
Dolce is the perfect contrast to the larger libraries currently available
and incredibly appealing for a number of different production settings
If there is one word which we’ve liberally applied to Audio Imperia releases in the past
Known for its superbly-styled cinematic sounds
Audio Imperia has garnered a reputation for classy orchestral and cinematic sounds
Dolce is a library which has been collaboratively created between Audio Imperia
Dolce endorses a smaller orchestral footprint
with the 1st Violins comprising seven players
down to three players in each of the cello and double bass sections.
The emphasis within Dolce is centred around expression; this is evident through a subtle amount of vibrato
which infiltrates much of the library’s sustained components
This is more obvious in certain places than others
with the marcato or pizzicato patches exhibiting a non-existent vibrato quota
There is a healthy contingent of articulations across-the-board
encompassing sustained samples (in both open and con sordino iterations)
There is however a lack of keyswitching options
relying on the user to create multiple articulation instances within Kontakt themselves
evident through a subtle amount of vibrato
Audio Imperia has always done its utmost to make it easy to find the orchestral sound that you require
Dynamic timbral control is provided through the usual modulation wheel
while expression is available at the channel level
the intensity of the vibrato increases with the dynamic volume
relates to either a Classic or a Modern mix
a simple see-saw fader glides between close and distant miking
while clicking the Advanced tab releases access to four mic faders
ranging from close to ambient signal paths
The acoustic captured within Dolce is relatively dry
in keeping with the best cinematic studio traditions
but the on-board reverb engine will allow the signal to be sweetened further through reverb if required.
Apart from the individual instrument articulations
which is always helpful when sketching out initial ideas
Other Audio Imperia libraries employ the Sample Start pot
which allows the user to dial back the amount of latency when playing
but only available on shorter articulations
which can ramp-up dynamically when required
The ability to switch between modern and classic mixes has always been a boon
This is not about one mix being superior to the other
but firmly about placement within an existing track
The modern mix lends itself superbly to commercial tracking
Dolce’s inspiration is drawn from the Golden Age of Hollywood
but elements such as the amount of vibrato deployment
have been tempered to keep the library usable in a contemporary setting
with plenty of round robins available on the shorter articulations where you need them
It’s an ideal partner to Audio Imperia’s other packages
broadening its appeal across all string sectors

government agencies seeking access to the personal electronic data of Americans must comply with a legal process to obtain that data
That process can be mandated by the Constitution (the Fourth Amendment’s warrant and probable cause requirement) or by statute (such as the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act
This report examines the concerning and rising practice of federal agencies sidestepping these legal requirements by obtaining data on Americans through commercial purchases from data brokers.
The problem is a byproduct of the lucrative private market for personal data
where many companies that offer online services collect
and sell data about individuals using those services
This data is aggregated by companies called ‘data brokers’ that typically lack any direct relationship with the individuals whose data they collect and sell
but may accumulate personal data from multiple sources with varying degrees of granularity
ranging from anonymized trends to the specific locations of individuals at specific times
and other companies may then seek access to data for varied commercial purposes.
law enforcement and intelligence agencies are among the customers of some data brokers
spending millions of dollars to gain access to private sector databases which often contain very sensitive and very personal information on individuals
One recent example of this pattern is the Department of Justice’s use of commercially aggregated data in prosecutions surrounding the Capitol Breach of 2021
The Justice Department indicated in a federal court filing that it had utilized “[l]ocation history data for thousands of devices present inside the Capitol (obtained from a variety of sources including Google and multiple data aggregation companies),”(Grand Jury Action No
the Justice Department indicated that data was obtained from “searches of ten data aggregation companies,” (United States v
The filings did not indicate who those aggregation companies were.
Law enforcement and intelligence agencies could obtain these types of personal data from different sources
including publicly available information (e.g.
access to company records through legal process (e.g.
a court order directing an internet service provider to turn over information)
we have very little insight into agencies’ engagement with data brokers
This report seeks to shed light on the nature and scale of the data broker to federal law enforcement and intelligence pipeline
and how law enforcement and intelligence agencies are relying on such purchases in situations where they should be required to obtain a warrant or other formal legal process to compel disclosure of the data
The report concludes with a series of recommendations to address these findings
Congress should act to close the loophole that is permitting government agencies to evade requirements that they obtain a warrant or other legal process by instead purchasing sensitive information from data brokers

The Infiorate: Liguria’s squares bloom
For MLB Cigar Ventures’ fourth release, Michael L. Bellody built upon his core line, the Imperia, by adding a third extension that promised “incredible complexity” and more spice and pepper than the original Imperia or the follow-up Imperia Islero
Dominican binder and a filler that contains Dominican tobacco and Pennsylvania broadleaf
It’s that last component that Bellody says delivers both subtle spice and a natural
earthy sweetness and provides a distinct blend from his other three releases
Getting its widespread release in April 2017
the Imperia Aventador is offered in five vitolas
which have been consistent among the other Imperia blends
The Fundador vitola is coming in 10-count boxes
while the other four sizes are packed in 20-count boxes
This perfecto features a traditionally capped head as well as a cap at the foot
giving a bit more distinction and presenting some smokers with the obvious question about how to best handle it
the cigar is still rolled well and offers just a bit of give
The wrapper is evenly colored with a chocolate brown color and offers an abundance of veins and tooth
With the double perfecto capped at both ends
I’m left to try and get some aromas off the wrapper
which I have rarely found to be beneficial
while the closed foot nearly negates the cold draw
What I do get is reminiscent of damp wood with some bark and steak sauce
and in the one sample where I clipped the closed foot
I don’t believe that there is a right approach to the foot of the cigar; you can either clip it off or burn through it
and save for the one sample I clipped so I could get some pre-light notes on the Imperia Aventador
I always opt for the latter method since it provides an extra blast of flavor from the wrapper
and an easy draw facilitates a good amount of smoke and air movement
Chewy notes of chocolate brownie are intertwined with the tanginess of woods and bark and pepper is used minimally but effectively to add some tingle to the tongue
More pepper comes out through the first retrohale
and the cigar starts shedding what sweetness is had from the chocolate in favor of more pepper and a more robust profile
while retrohales become a bit more enjoyable as I start to get a bit of tar on the lips that leaves a funky finish and may necessitate another clip of the cigar’s head
Other than that the cigar has performed quite well in the first third
the cigar is much more earthy in its profile
showing a bit less pepper and transitioning the chocolate into rich soil
The biggest change I find at this point comes by way of the texture of the smoke
as it comes across a bit thinner than it did at the start of the cigar
As the chocolate fades the earthy note becomes drier as a bit of chalk comes along
and while I get the same mouth-drying sensation as cigars with a strong wood taste
and it’s quickly apparent that I’m smoking a much different cigar than I was just under an hour ago
Combustion is also becoming a bit of an issue
as I find myself needing to give the Aventador a relight more often than I would like to get the cigar burning properly
the final third gets underway as largely a continuation of the second third
though there are some changes beginning to make themselves known
so much so that I’m wondering if all the relights or what appears to be a bit too much residual moisture is having an adverse affect on the flavor
I begin to get hints of tar and metals on the tip of my tongue
which detours the cigar from the otherwise decent flavor profile it had been offering
there is a surge of nicotine from the Aventador and I can feel a bit of physical reaction in the upper chest
The flavor continues to be rocky and now even more metallic
making it challenging to discern just how much pepper is left in the profile
as I can taste it but it doesn’t seem to have the same effect that it did earlier
One cigar finished with some combustion issues and a slightly metallic taste
while the others smoked down a good bit farther and kept that unpleasantness to a minimum
flavorful complexity and finishes with an off-putting metallic note that gets compounded by combustion issues
it's challenging to put together a tidy summary that still sounds encouraging
yet that's how I feel about the Imperia Aventador from MLB Cigar Ventures
If the first third is any indication of what the cigar is capable of
and if I felt more confident that the issues of the final third will iron themselves out with time
I can't say either with a ton of confidence at this point
but I'm at least hopeful that both will prove true and this will become the cigar I think it's capable of becoming
I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories
it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it
the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together

Imperia Online
the massively multiplayer online (MMO) strategy game
released a Windows Store version of their app in March and are currently working on a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) release
They started their company in 2005 with just a handful of passionate hobbyists in an apartment in Bulgaria
Building from a web-based game in an age before Facebook
Imperia Online grew from these humble beginnings into a game that is played around the world and on a wide variety of platforms: from the web and Facebook to mobile (Android
finding tactical opportunities to increase revenue
pursuing a cross-platform strategy has always been important for Imperia Online because it means getting their game out in front of more people
new platforms can also provide unique opportunities
Head of Marketing and Business Development
said “At first we were skeptical of the Windows ecosystem
but then we saw the lack of strategy titles in their games section
and we thought this new platform can expand the company’s market significantly.”
It also helped that using WinJS made bringing their web-based code over to Windows pretty easy
Imperia Online started with only a limited familiarity with the Windows development platform
a prominent game publisher on Windows and Xbox who
“made the integration process look like a piece of cake.” Having started down this road
they are now looking to UWP as a way incrementally grow their game even further
“To be part of a new beginning like the Windows 10 platform,” Mariela added
“is one of the most powerful opportunities for game developers today.”
Imperia Online has been a free-to-play game since its inception and relies on in-app purchases for revenue
“From the beginning we have believed that free-to-play is the business model of the future because you can reach a broader audience,” said Cvetan Rusimov
UWP provides a strong foundation for build in-app purchase gaming elements
Windows Store allows game studios to generate promotion codes for in-app products (IAP) that makes developing campaigns around IAPs extremely convenient
The average in-app purchase for Imperia Online is around 20 Euros
Cvetan says this is a much better source of revenue than an initial purchase because
they can make multiple purchases at key trigger points in their play such as wanting to get revenge against another player or in order to impress friends
Cvetan says there is even a set of core gamers that will regularly spend hundreds of dollars for in-app purchases
Cultivating these sorts of players can make a Windows Store game especially lucrative
Another aspect of the UWP platform that Imperia Online finds attractive is the ability to manipulate Live Tiles
it is difficult to get a player’s attention after they have left the game
“shows that users benefit a lot from Live Tiles mainly because they are not disturbed by notifications
coming attacks and finished missions in game
as shown by more frequent logins and game sessions.”
Imperia Online also looks for opportunities to move into new global regions
They currently support approximately 30 languages in Europe
Moving into a new region requires not only translating the game and making sure localized fonts look good on the maps
It also involves a level of cultural accommodation
Imperia Online had to make adjustments for release in the Middle East
which European gamers are familiar and comfortable with
need to be turned into mosques for Middle Eastern players
Imperia Online’s creative director collected thousands of pictures covering the architecture and clothing of the various regions to make sure the aesthetic of the game is appropriate and localized for each culture
Imperia Online currently have their eyes set even further east
“We want to expand our territory,” said Cvetan
“We want to go to China.” In order to do this
it turns out that acculturation is not as important as one would think
western-style gaming aesthetics are currently very popular in China
following a period in which Japanese manga-style design was all the rage
This makes slipping in a medieval strategy game actually relatively easy
The larger problem they foresee is server responsiveness
Dynamic content between China and the company’s servers in Sofia
Imperia Online views Microsoft Azure’s global presence as a strategic opportunity to grow their game into new territories while ensuring the best data performance possible
As the game expands into new platforms and new territories
Imperia Online has seen itself grow physically
Cvetan remembers when he was employee number eight
Imperia Online now employs 180 people and has a catalog of 20 games
While growth is not only good but also one of the principle goals of most game studios
it was a flat structure and everyone talked to everyone,” Cvetan explained
you need to delegate more tasks – and then you have the problem of not having enough connection with the employees and being able to share knowledge
This is something that small companies underestimate.”
Imperia Online continues to pursue further growth and looks for additional revenue opportunities
this means Windows 10 and the Universal Windows Platform

Sony Mordechai is on a mission to get everyone to eat caviar
sells directly to consumers and offers the world’s first caviar club
I have always been passionate about discovering something valuable or new and sharing it with the world
My passion for caviar started 10 years ago on a trip to France with a group of CEOs from my YPO chapter
and maker of one of the best cognacs in the world
was a caviar tasting in Bordeaux; it was love at first bite
During most of my 20-year business career as a parallel entrepreneur
I have represented luxury and wellness brands such as Burberry
I have found an opportunity to bring together my passion for amazing food
and create a global brand that can redefine the caviar industry
We believe that caviar should be a luxury everyone can enjoy and that it has the potential to become the next avocado
We have been collaborating with numerous restaurants across the US
and a lot of interest has sparked across Europe as well
Although this has not been our primary focus
a lot of the business owners or chefs that have experienced our product have reached out and sourced their caviar from us
Both our Kaluga Hybrid Reserve and Royal Ossetra are two of the best quality caviars one can have
There are 27 sturgeon species around the world with very different taste profiles
The Kaluga sturgeon is also known as River Beluga in Russia because it originates from the Amur River
It has a very mild and buttery taste and very large eggs
The mild profile makes it an excellent choice for any newcomer in the caviar world
or if you are a caviar veteran (like myself) that loves pairing caviar with almost everything else
The Royal Ossetra originates from the Caspian Sea
and it is the most popular high-end caviar out there
It is an excellent choice for the caviar connoisseur that wishes to close his eyes and go on a flavor trip
but it also combines very nicely with sour cream
as its intense taste will make it stand out
Both of our caviars are two of the highest-grade caviars you can access in the US
we have also started offering Beluga to our clients
The Kaluga sturgeon is also known as River Beluga
the truth is you don’t need much convincing
We have many clients who grew up indulging in caviar regularly and are extremely happy they can once again access top-grade caviar at a reasonable price
The way we see it is that caviar is an extremely tasty and healthy food that can and should be consumed regularly
it’s probably the most sociable and celebrated food in existence
when was the last time you were invited to have caviar
Most people would answer “never.” What would be the chance that you show up if someone invited you for caviar
My success rate for inviting people over to indulge in caviar has been 100% so far
so the first milestone is for us to have as many people as possible taste top-quality caviar and to realize that they actually like
it reminds me of sushi a couple of decades ago when it had started penetrating the European market
People would drag their friends to experience this novelty
which of course in Japan has existed forever
Imperia caviar is fully committed to sustainable seafood practices
and we care about the preservation of the wild species and the well-being of the oceans
We will make every effort to raise healthy fish while making sure we don’t cause any damage to the natural ecosystem
hormones or antibiotics for growing the fish
We only use fish feed that is carefully curated for optimal health
The Caviar Club is our select member club designed for individuals that believe in the high nutrition value of caviar
and want to include it into their regular diet
you are part of a select community that periodically receives shipments of the best quality of caviar available in the US
Our members also benefit from complimentary shipping
exceptional pricing and access to invite-only events
Our average club member consumes around four to five kilograms of caviar per year
and our entry membership pricing starts at $1,200 for 1.2kg of caviar delivered four times a year
There are also monthly or bi-monthly options
It is one of the healthiest superfoods there is
paleo diet or simply appreciate the nutritional value of healthy fats
Numerous publications and books are talking about the health benefits of caviar and fish eggs in general; there can be profound health benefits such as an improved immune system
It is even said to have an aphrodisiac effect
who holds a PhD degree in neuroscience and nuclear medicine
as well as being also a certified integrative nutritionist and holistic healthcare practitioner
talks about the health benefits of fish roe in her New York best-selling book
my humble view is that all eggs are superfoods as they are the cocoon of life that nature created for us
Please note that all caviar eggs are unfertilized
so no offspring embryo is ever harmed during the collection process
Our focus in the B2B space has been to educate restaurant owners that caviar can be an excellent addition to many of their dishes
Putting this superfood on your menu will not only generate more revenue
but will also create a memorable and exquisite experience that clients will cherish and share with their friends
I love sharing it with friends and pairing it with almost everything
one of my favorite pairings is with plain pasta
I will also indulge in a one-ounce tin on its own
There is no wrong way for me to have my caviar
as I love the way its taste can complement almost any food
This is the first time I was asked this question in a caviar interview
I was indeed the first person to purchase a ticket to space online
so I guess buying top-quality caviar online shouldn’t be an issue for anyone
I would be more than happy to take a few pounds on board and share it with my fellow astronauts

Solo is a highly usable suite of solo instruments and vocal samples that sounds incredibly classy in all settings
Extensive collection of versatile solo instruments
The roster of Audio Imperia sample libraries has been slowly swelling
with an impressive library of cinematic and orchestral sounds which have rightly garnered both user and critical acclaim
there is equal demand for individual instrument samples
which can explore the more subtle end of the spectrum
and that’s where Solo has plenty to offer
Solo embraces the familiar form of a Kontakt instrument
making light work of both installation and usability
It immediately appears in the library browser
while also being open to use within the free Kontakt player plugin
Solo also conforms to Audio Imperia’s beautiful
each instrument is equipped with a Classic and a Modern mix
The Classic mix is relatively flat and sounds acoustically authentic
where it’s also possible to see-saw between a close and far microphone mix
a quick click on the Advanced tab reveals a full five microphone placements
While Solo performs beautifully right out of the virtual box
the level of control available is something of an industry-leading concept
such as timbral and expressive dynamics are immediate
there’s also control of velocity curve and legato smoothing
allowing you to tweak settings to your playing style.
the sample start pot immediately gets around the issue which is common with orchestral libraries
of inconsistent latency with the articulation of every note
This subtle but useful control literally saves hours of programming time while trying to program samples to sit correctly in the timing pocket.
It’s a unique selling point across all Audio Imperia libraries which is praised by many users
Whatever your preference for Basic or Advanced mode
there’s an immediacy which is a huge boon for all users
The choice of instruments is relatively wide
and a full set of the four main woodwind instruments
two soprano vocal samples embrace both operatic tendencies and a purer soprano timbre
All of the samples are equipped with a plentiful helping of articulation variation
which are open to multisample format or individual patch formation
The individual patches are useful if you are struggling with RAM allocation
The overarching sense is how expressive these samples are
Each note attack is followed by a delayed vibrato
which leaves you smiling at the level of musicality oozing from each note
subtle control relating to re-bowing or re-tonguing may be activated through velocity control
the library does lend itself to sweeping melodic gestures
but with plenty of shorter and more punctuating samples for more agitated playing moments.
with the melancholy oboe and cor anglais proving to be highly effective and evocative
The Angelic soprano patch is also particularly cinematic
Particular mention has to be made of the legato patching
and that’s certainly the case for the next element which could be regarded as the joker in the Solo pack
Audio Imperia has an unbelievably strong reputation for sound design
always including such elements among their acoustic libraries
With the inclusion of 13 acoustically derived pad textures
and a very welcome addition to this very classy compendium
If you bundle the comprehensive effects section
with Audio Imperia’s usual impressive level of sample control
MusicRadar verdict: Solo is a highly usable suite of solo instruments and vocal samples that sounds incredibly classy in all settings
