exhibition by artist Nardo at Bitcoin Mena, in collaboration with AOTM Gallery I sat down with him to explore the intersections of memes Nardo’s work navigates the intriguing space between the tangible form of traditional painting and the fleeting nature of meme culture—two seemingly contrasting mediums that are evolving in tandem with Bitcoin Subway became the first fast-food chain to accept bitcoin in 2013—a moment documented by Andrew Torba who famously used bitcoin to buy a $5 sub in Allentown given that Torba is now CEO of the social network Gab) This early mix of Bitcoin and meme culture sparked humorous reflections on “spending generational wealth” on footlongs and highlighted themes of currency value over time as the dollar’s purchasing power wanes while bitcoin’s grows How does this Subway meme resonate with you and how does it shape your approach to painting in an increasingly digital age I think there is something to be said about quick consumption in contemporary culture—whether it’s fast food footlong subs or internet memes The attention span of human senses has diminished to bursts of repeated dopamine and toppings becomes the most exciting part of your afternoon Then comes the tireless effort of finishing 12 inches of processed food matter You repeat this over and over because it’s convenient you’ll excite yourself by swapping cheddar for provolone Subway has developed a systematic experience that feels eternal Memes and internet behavior function in a similar way The ephemeral consumption of entertaining or humorous memes acts as the dopamine hit—we share them with friends the success of memes also lies in their systems: cultural iconography bold fonts superimposed onto captivating imagery Memes rely on visual and cultural layers—bread we should really confront its experiential nature in the exact moment of exchange To have purchased a footlong for $5 worth of Bitcoin in 2013 is both absurd and somewhat painful—but the experience is eternal The very act of using digital internet money in exchange for physical Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins coined the term “memes” to describe units of cultural transmission Memes also resemble viruses in how they propagate through social networks blurring the lines between genes and viruses as both can integrate into DNA and influence evolution You and I have joked that memes—and memecoins—are akin to the fast food of digital culture serving as cybernetic junk food or street drugs Do you consider memes to be a low art form Is the buildup of studio trash made famous by painter Francis Bacon or the outlandish waste and detritus of Dash Snow’s 2007 “hamster nest” installation somehow related What are your thoughts on contemporary artists like Christine Wang who replicates notable memes in her recent painting exhibition “Cryptofire Degen,” at The Hole in New York What happens when a digital meme becomes a physical painting?  This all ties back to what I discussed earlier—I am interested in slowing down the process of consumption To meticulously hand-paint a meme in oil and present it as such can be a little jarring After the user has consumed their lunch and doom-scrolled through countless memes on Twitter The whole experience can feel like nullifying brain rot—a diminishing of structure and existence within passive chaos that is the liminal mindset necessary to birth the most viral ideas My introduction to cybernetics came from Japanese animation series like Ghost in the Shell (1995-2014) which explore cyberpunk themes such as internet-connected minds echoing Dawkins’ ideas about memes and cultural transmission The series highlights concepts like “ghost-hacking” and “thought viruses,” which replicate across networks and influence societal behavior aligning with Dawkins’ notion of self-replicating cultural units Given your recent exploration of the “skibidi toilet” meme phenomenon what insights have you gained about how this meme has propagated across social networks and shaped the collective consciousness of younger audiences The Ghost in the Shell connection isn’t far removed from the world as we know it now Much like the premise of that “fiction,” our fleshy brains are nestled within a cybernetic façade of digital personas and communications We practically live vicariously through a digitized shadow-self—a projection of what we think we could become I am deeply intrigued by the phenomenon of American youth becoming obsessed with new memes that older generations are unable to compute I think it is in this fracturing of sensibility that new languages are born while old mythologies are repackaged in contemporary ways. Skibidi Toilet is the Iliad of the Internet Beyond Ghost in the Shell’s exploration of cybernetics the seminal anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion intersects with the Age of Aquarius concept through its themes of interconnectedness and collective consciousness The series delves into the merging of individual identities echoing how “hive mind” behaviors in contemporary internet culture reflect the rapid influence of shared information and memes you highlight the tension between individual artistry and the pressures of representing a faceless brand How have you observed this shift over time and how can artists engage with collective ideas while preserving their individuality in today’s digital culture The Sandwich Artist piece utilizes a well-known meme template yet through various digital alterations—specifically the literal scribbling out of pre-existing text—it takes on the feel of graffiti and eventually becomes my own I like this piece for how it represents an individual manifesto of my work and reflects how I think about my artistry as a whole consistent branding and aesthetics are great for sales if done right but I’m more interested in how my work exists within a long enough historical timeline The hive mind desires a brand to rally behind yet history yearns for individual artistry We’ve discussed the term “subway” in relation to submarine sandwiches but it also evokes the idea of underground transportation Japan famously studied mycelial growth patterns to optimize its subway and train systems memes propagate and connect individuals in a vast evolving as they move from one “host” to another This fungal comparision highlights how memes adapt and spread dynamically mirroring natural systems of growth and communication How do you think artists can consciously navigate this memetic landscape of propagation The lifespan of most internet memes moves so rapidly that it’s diffi cult to grasp them before they vanish into a shallow grave Among the few that manage to take hold of the collective consciousness I find it fascinating to analyze how they connect to humanity’s past on a metaphysical level Trends and symbols have remained consistent throughout human history; they simply resurface in different forms as time passes Efficient memes rely on efficient systems for delivering information we should remain conscious of history and metaphysical symbolism as this awareness can help us uncover our own primordial self through the mirror of memes Bitcoin Magazine is the oldest and most established source of trustworthy news information and thought leadership on Bitcoin OSU’s 52-0 loss to Colorado sealed a winless record in conference play and a 3-9 season With 2024 being Mike Gundy’s second losing season in 20 years the longtime Cowboy is unlikely to be on the way out the Cowboys need some big changes to avoid complacency after an 0-9 Big 12 year While neither coordinator performed well this season defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo led one of the worst units in all of college football OSU can’t afford to go into next season with the same coaching staff OSU’s defense under Nardo this season was the worst in the Gundy era OSU finished 133rd of 134 teams in total defense this season after finishing 126th of 133 teams last season Those are the only two seasons in Gundy’s 20 years at the helm where OSU finished in the bottom 10 of the FBS The closest OSU has come to having a bottom-10 defense was in 2011 that squad went 12-1 and has the only Big 12 title in Gundy’s tenure thanks to forcing an FBS-best 3.4 turnovers per game (and having arguably the best offense in school history) 2018 was the only other season where that happened and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles was in the first year of rebuilding the OSU defense Knowles’ struggles in his first season gave fans optimism about Nardo’s rough first year Knowles built OSU’s defense into a top-5 unit in the FBS by his fourth and final season in Stillwater Nardo’s unit only got worse in his second try Nardo’s defense this season also allowed 35.6 points per game two of the four worst rush defenses and two of the four worst pass defenses including the worst in all three categories this season To say OSU’s defense under Nardo has been bad or disappointing would be an understatement Even for a team that has struggled on defense throughout the past two decades Nardo’s units have stood out as some of the worst to ever take the field in Stillwater The entire blame of the defense’s struggles can’t be placed on Nardo alone but with how awful his teams have performed there is no excuse to keep him around another season Generated by team-first mentality get the correct pass off and create opportunities for them all over the field but the focus is to get others the ball,” Nardo said We’re counting on her to score again this year She knows it doesn’t matter who scores She’s more focused on the team’s success this year.” Nardo’s team-first mentality stems from being named captain this year and her message to her teammates is both the offensive and defensive aspects of the position and it helps me understand our point of attack in our transition game I get as many touches on the ball as I can which I think has helped me improve in my four years All the coaching I’ve received throughout the years on all the different teams I’ve played on has really helped to fix my bad habits and correct my mistakes What’s been the most memorable goal you scored in your high school career Last year in our second game against Latrobe but our confidence started to build after our first goal and when I scored our second one we collectively had the belief that we would win that game What lessons have you learned from playing sports and not every loss is going to be the end of the world and you’ll get another chance I always think that my mistakes will always affect the way I play the rest of the game Are you involved in any other sports or activities at school I just joined the Best Buddies Club at school today That’s a club where we go and work with the special needs kids at our school We’ll help with their activities and look to provide a great experience for them on their field trips or game nights It’s all about providing a great time for them My two main plans are to either go to the University of Pittsburgh and study physical therapy (or) if I wanted to continue to play soccer it would be at Carlow What to know Nardo spent just two seasons as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator He was hired from Division II Gannon University specifically to install the 3-3-5 defensive scheme at OSU Gundy and Nardo adjusted to a style that allowed for more use of four-man fronts primarily in hopes of getting edge rusher Collin Oliver more involved in the pass rush But after Oliver and All-Big 12 linebacker Nick Martin were injured the scheme shifted almost exclusively to a 4-2-5 that did not resemble much — if any — of the defense Nardo had been hired to run On this episode of Million Dollaz Worth of Game we have Jacksonville's own Gillie & Wallo talk with Nardo about his come up his sophomore album via Flawless Entertainment/RCA Records He also released the video for “Hello,” directed by Dell.\n\nEarlier this month Nardo dropped his Hold Off EP featuring Kodak Black and the single “I Wonder,” with a video co-directed by Nardo and Hidji World.\n\nhttps://nardowick.lnk.to/Holdoff\n\nPowered by: \nKFC - KFC Dunk It Challenge may be over and devour with the KFC Dunk It Bucket!\n\nDraftkings - Download the DraftKings Sportsbook app and use code GILLIE (800) 327-5050 or visit gamblinghelplinema.org (MA) Call 877-8-HOPENY/text HOPENY (467369) (NY).\nPlease Gamble Responsibly or visit www.mdgamblinghelp.org (MD).\n21+ and present in most states On behalf of Boot Hill Casino & Resort (KS) $150 issued as non-withdrawable Bonus Bets that expire in 7 days (168 hours) Sponsored by DK.\n\nStash - Go to https://get.stash.com/DOLLAZ to see how you can receive $25 towards your first stock purchase and to view important disclosures \n\nNew Amsterdam Vodka - Find your wins with New Amsterdam Vodka\n\nJackpocket - GAMBLING PROBLEM in NY Call 877-8-HOPENY or text HOPE-N-Y.\n18 or older (19+ in Nebraska Jackpocket is not affiliated with any State Lottery Enter promo code at checkout for $2 non-withdrawable credit See terms at jackpocket dot com slash tos slash free slash ticket slash promo Based on 2024 iOS download data collected by Sensor Tower You can find every episode of this show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or YouTube. Danny Mastronardo explained to Small Business Trends that when they met with Barbara Corcoran after the show they explained they'd be working on it full-time Though he didn't explicitly confirm what the new deal entailed he suggested they got to keep more of the business creating everything from cleansers to lip balms Forbes reported that Nardo's Natural was a multi-million dollar company and Corcoran's cash helped it gain sales and work on distribution techniques The company later grew by helping other businesspeople reach their dreams helping over 250 different brands by sharing their business knowledge the company has a revenue of around $5 million Danny Mastronardo confirmed on "The Mentors" podcast in 2019 that they'd sold products in 50 states and had even appeared on Forbes' 30 under 30 entrepreneurs list Though it's still focused on selling its natural skincare products the company has changed somewhat since its time on "Shark Tank." Danny shared that the company has expanded to close to 1,100 members of staff and had its own chemist and manufacturing facility "We've turned it into a self-running machine," he said "Our biggest source of revenue now is private label where we do the manufacturing for others and put their label on it," he added it looks like Nardo's Naturals will only keep on expanding Danny teased the possibility to Small Business Trends "We will be working on a pilot for our own reality show." Now that's a show we'd like to see "Shark Tank" is available for purchase on Prime Video (Robert Allen of Pokes Report contributed to the this story.) STILLWATER – Pokes Report has learned from multiple sources and has consulted with Brett McMurphy with the Action Sports Network that Wednesday morning Oklahoma State offensive coordinator This action by head coach Mike Gundy comes after the 3-9 season and the nine-game losing streak to finish the year with an 0-9 record in Big 12 play This is just the third time that Gundy has fired a defensive coordinator in his 20 years as head coach This is the first time he has fired an offensive coordinator.  Oklahoma State was the second worst unit in Division I FBS allowing 500.6-yards a contest split with 215-yards rushing a game and 285.58-yards passing a contest The defense only forced 15 turnovers this season and allowed an average of 35.6-points per game.  Oklahoma State scored 27.2 points per game this was a low for the Kasey Dunn era as offensive coordinator also a low for the Cowboys in recent seasons That was a split of just 111.8-yards rushing and 262.25-yards passing The two coaches were still at the West End Zone this morning and into the afternoon Our multiple sources said it happened early in the day We know there was a staff meeting at 10 a.m.  Dunn has spent the past 14 seasons on staff joining as the wide receivers coach in 2011 then promoted to associate head coach ahead of the 2019 season and then offensive coordinator in 2020 Nardo was hired away from Division II Gannon University where he had one of the best defenses at that level and had just coached a Gannon defense that was their best in 20-years He was brought in to run an odd man (three-man) front defense but midway into his first season the Cowboys gradually morphed back into a four-man front but he was educating himself more on how to coach up and work in the frame of an even front.  Dunn has been one of the best wide receiver coaches in the nation having coached up Justin Blackmon in his first season on the coaching staff Blackmon and Washington each won the Biletnikoff Award as the top receiver in college football Dunn has coached in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks as well as college stops at Idaho (alma mater) Nardo was a student coach at Ohio University and then coached at Missouri S&T and Youngstown State before going to Gannon and from there he came to Oklahoma State His reputation grew as a defensive coordinator at the Division II level and his expertise on three-man front defensive play He is also a coach in the secondary with safeties and corners He was immensely popular with the player on both sides of the football There was no immediate word on any other changes on the coaching staff or a time table for the hiring of new coordinators for Oklahoma State on offense and defense The Florida rapper dishes out aggressive bars over beats that sound like absolute chaos is that Wick's delivery is hushed and menacing He doesn't yell over instrumentals the way some of his Florida brethren do "I Wonder" is a textbook example of the Nardo Wick formula at work and sees him rattle off a series of increasingly intense lyrics with a flow that completely unrushed "I wonder what I did to make her like me so much," he spits but it started as a crush." He never seemed overwhelmed with the jump to power conference football but it was a learning experience that benefited him “Just like us, Coach Nardo has shown improvement and growth,” edge rusher Collin Oliver said “He was able to learn from last year and apply a new mindset to this year.” with veteran defensive line coach Paul Randolph replacing Greg Richmond Randolph will be charged with the duty of improving the Cowboys’ pass rush The most important development from the offseason is Nardo’s work to mold the defensive scheme in a way that better fits the talents of his players who played primarily as a linebacker last season will be used more frequently as a pass rusher Yet both players can slide back to their original positions giving the defense an amount of versatility that can’t be undervalued More: What benefits seventh-year QBs Alan Bowman, Cameron Rising bring to Oklahoma State, Utah “We have a very athletic defense in my opinion,” Gundy said “I think our players will have a better feel for our system and will allow us to play faster and get to the ball.” The defense’s back seven lost just one regular rotation player in starting linebacker Xavier Benson so the knowledge base should be much stronger allowing Nardo to polish the fine points of the scheme instead of teaching it “We gotta take a look in the mirror and see what it is for what it is — we didn’t reach our potential last year,” linebacker Nick Martin said but we ultimately did not live up to my expectations or the coaches’ expectations “What we can do in terms of reaching our potential Nardo is at the heart of the improvement and growing confidence of his players but everything that makes a coach and a man great “I expect great things from our defense because we have such a great leader How he’s grown in less than a year is insane.” actor Wood Harris from Paid in Full fame In February, Nardo dropped his sophomore album, Wick, featuring a song reminiscent of Eminem's classic 2000 track "Stan." The 23-year-old rhymer chose to call his version "Drew," drawing inspo from the ways in which Em's bars dissected a wild fan's behavior also featuring a sample from one of his favorite singers Ruth B. "I probably ask him to listen to my song 'Drew' and tell him give me his honest opinion on it," Nardo says of what he'd tell Marshall Mathers during a linkup "I came up with the idea for my song 'Drew' from Eminem song 'Stan.' It was inspired by that because I always thought it was real creative to make that type of song to paint a picture like that and I wanted to try it and see if I could do it." We think Em would be proud And while everyone has a series they've been glued to one that may surprise even the most loyal Nardo supporter is that he really enjoys the Netflix series You starring Penn Badgley He'd give the former Gossip Girl star his props on the show "If I had something to say to Penn Badgley it probably would be just he a good actor "The reason I like that show is ’cause it's like suspenseful like his creepy and I like the way they got his character like he innocent but he not innocent at the same time." What he means is that it’s not simply how far an EV will go on a single charge that’s most important; it’s how much range you can get from a 10-minute session at a high-speed charger. That, Pfeffer says, is a metric that is likely to be more meaningful to the vast majority of EV owners. The challenge with the CLA development program, says Timo Stegmaier, head of development for electric drive systems, was not just to get EQXX technology into production, but improve it for the driver in terms of delivering time efficiency. “To get time efficiency you need a high efficiency drivetrain and outstanding charging performance,” Stegmaier says. The Nardo record run was designed to test the effectiveness of that technology transfer. During the record run the CLA—a mule car with its aerodynamics configured to match those of the production version—was driven at 130 mph. It stopped 40 times to have the battery recharged during the 24 hours, which suggests the Mercedes traveled barely 60 miles between charges. But here’s the thing: Though the battery was run down to a 10 percent state of charge, it was only brought up to a 55 percent state of charge—sometimes a touch more—before the CLA was sent back out onto the track. This ‘time efficiency’ concept has now been baked into the production CLA’s software. Program a trip from one end of Germany to the other, for example, and the car’s nav system will now work out the most time efficient route, not just in terms of average speeds, but also in terms of how much charge you need to put into the battery pack, and how often. Production CLAs will now also interact with chargers quicker. During their early research into the record attempt, Mercedes-Benz engineers found it took an average of 56 seconds for the car and charger to recognize each other and for charging to commence. By the time of the actual run, which took place in early April, that time had been cut to about 30 seconds. “With 40 stops, that was a lot of time saved,” says Timo Stegmaier. The pre-event simulations, and the real-world confirmation of the run itself, also helped refine things like the optimal strategies for opening and closing the cooling shutters at the front of the car and for managing the thermal loads on the battery pack, both of which have been passed through to the production CLA. And though they won’t confirm details, engineers hint the Nardo run showed the CLA’s 800V electrical architecture could handle a peak charge rate of about 300 kW. Another goal of the record attempt was to confirm the robustness of the system. High speeds in high ambient temperatures and fast recharging puts a lot of thermal stress into an EV powertrain, particularly the battery. Data from the Nardo run is now being used in simulation testing of all new Mercedes-Benz EV powertrains.
