Latest news, brokerage headlines and yacht exclusives, every weekday SubscribeSign up to our newslettersSign up to BOAT International email newsletters to get the latest superyacht news Boat International Media Ltd © 2008 - 2025 Content presented under the "BOAT Presents" logo is an advertising feature and Boat International Limited has been paid to include this content Eager to join me for lunch on the beachfront terrace at Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres’ Seaside Grill a spiny-tailed iguana slowly made its way toward my impeccably set table a server swiftly stepped into the local creature’s path directing it away from the guests nibbling on grilled octopus Super-attentive staff members seem to pop up everywhere at the newest adults-only all-inclusive resort from The Inclusive Collection, part of World of Hyatt meandering pathways leading from the 507 suites past several jungle-wrapped pools to the beach the almost-too-discreet signage meant I got lost often during my recent four-night stay Each time I asked someone where the infinity pool was or which staircase I should take to grab a gourmet coffee at Coco Cafe a staff member would insist on accompanying me there Pampering guests in a luxurious setting designed for ultimate relaxation is top of mind here Located 12 miles north of Cancun along the expansive Costa Mujeres shoreline this Secrets resort dazzles the moment guests arrive in the open-air lobby Perched at the highest point of the property this breezy space was designed so guests can enjoy sunrises bursting over the Caribbean Sea and spectacular sunsets over the lagoon My ocean-front corner junior suite — one of 14 guestroom categories — was furnished in the same neutral hues as the rest of the resort with handmade furniture crafted from locally sourced Parota wood known for its durability in tropical climates Smooth stone floors and woven accents added casual elegance Slatted sliding wood doors revealed a massive bathroom with a two-person soaking tub a separate shower and a double vanity stocked with Pharmacopia products and handy amenities daily replenishment of snacks and cold drinks and having a dedicated concierge for my building And while the Wi-Fi can be spotty — especially at the beach — it’s further incentive to unplug and soak up the coastal serenity which serves as a barrier against the piles of seaweed found at many Cancun resorts I was also struck by the majesty of three large ceiba trees growing on the property this divine tree’s roots are connected to the underworld With nine no-reservations-required eateries dotted throughout the property — including six a la carte restaurants the 24-hour Coco Cafe and the poolside Barefoot Grill — guests can indulge any craving from sushi to upscale French dishes and authentic Mexican delights I savored crispy squid and coconut shrimp at Oceana short ribs and homemade ice cream at Seaside Grill fresh smoothies and made-to-order omelets at Market Cafe and a decadent Sharing the same owner and designer as Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya and Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun I was impressed by the stunning decorative elements crafted by Yucatan artisans including several hand-painted tile murals by Mexican artist Carla Guajardo that infuse tropical whimsy into the Market Cafe This last spot is the only one requiring reservations for its four teppanyaki tables which can be booked through the resort app Secrets Playa Blanca also offers memorable culinary experiences in private rooms wine-and-food pairings in Portofino’s cellar — which has an extensive selection including one $11,000 bottle — or tequila tasting at El Patio including one in a sunken conversation area surrounded by water provide congenial gathering spots once the sun sets And with more than 9,000 square feet of event space the resort is ideal for destination weddings and incentive trips The Secrets app updates with activities ranging from mixology classes beach volleyball and sunrise yoga to kayaking The bustling social pool offers non-stop entertainment multiple small pools are tucked among the jungle-like landscape There’s plenty of space around the oceanfront infinity pool and its swim-up bar a wooden boardwalk leads straight to the beach where loungers and palapa umbrellas are set up For clients seeking more privacy, 10 small, dedicated pools for guests staying in ground-floor swim-out suites offer a quick dip. Rooms on higher floors include balcony soaker tubs. Guests in the 221 Preferred suites have their own beach bar infinity pool and indoor lounge — where I nibbled tasty appetizers I also loved the hydrotherapy circuit at the Secrets Spa — attendants accompany you from the dry sauna or steam room when it’s time for a plunge in the cold pool or to wander through the hot-and-cold reflexology foot baths A series of jets in adjoining pools provided soothing massage it’s a short drive to a championship golf course several historical attractions or Isla Contoy National Park which houses one of Mexico’s largest wildlife sanctuaries Guests can also take a ferry to Isla Mujeres for shopping and snorkeling But with such an array of options right on property I was happy to stay put at this swanky resort At the invitation of Hyatt Inclusive Collection Open Jaw recently had the opportunity to stay at Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets a new ultra-luxury boutique hotel part of the Secrets portfolio The property stands out with its even more personalized and "high-end" experience During our stay at this adults-only 'hidden paradise,' described as the 'most Instagrammable hotel in the world' by Luxury Travel Advisor magazine we discovered a haven of luxury and exclusivity where almost every moment evokes the landscapes of the Maldives or Santorini in Greece Welcome to this luxury and romantic destination where every corner becomes an idyllic setting for taking "Instagram photos" the "most exclusive hotel on Isla Mujeres" stands out with the hassle-free experience it offers to its guests Upon arrival at the Hacienda del Mar marina for the private catamaran transfer we are greeted by a butler who takes care of our luggage delivering it "directly to our suite." Then we are presented with a menu of food and drinks while we settle into an exclusive lounge with an ocean view they take care of the whole check-in process The result is that we can relax without having to go through a traditional reception upon arrival "The main idea for us is to take care of all the check-in formalities while you wait for the boat your vacation begins," shared Mourad Essafi guests can focus on one of the most important parts of their stay: the (absolutely stunning) arrival on the island by catamaran Impression Isla Mujeres is one of the only two resorts on the island offering private transfers Guests of other properties must take a public ferry to Isla Mujeres are escorted to their suite by their butler where their luggage is already waiting for them whether they wish to order a meal at one of the five gourmet restaurants enjoy a bottle of wine in their suite's hot tub or go diving to explore the "second-largest coral reef in the world." Each suite comes with a dedicated team of butlers available 24/7 to cater to guests’ needs "The concept behind Impression was born from the desire to blend personalized luxury and high-end service within an all-inclusive setting," summarized Mourad Essafi during the on-site interview The hotel boasts 125 elegant and spacious suites in neutral tones almost all offering breathtaking sea views The property's luxurious feel is reflected both in the décor inspired by natural elements like the ocean and bamboo create an immersive and relaxing experience The blue and white tones in the furniture and décor give the property a paradise-like ambiance you feel like you're in Mexico while being transported elsewhere – exactly the sensation the hotel aims to create you feel like you’ve arrived at a Maldivian destination," explains Essafi and you would never imagine being so close to the Cancun area I think this is one of the most important points: in the Caribbean you have such a unique destination with a great sense of arrival the cliffside hotel offers six suite categories Each suite category offers the same "endless privileges," including: the hotel does not consider itself a traditional all-inclusive but rather a "hotel with endless privileges." Speaking to The Guardian, Edgar Gasca, from the tourism directorate of Isla Mujeres, said, “We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it. For us, this is an event that does not exist.” Gasca was in Bogotá, Colombia for a tourism fair when he heard the news. He confirmed he had spoken to the minister for tourism in the state of Quintana Roo and the hotels listed as part of Fyre Festival 2, and none had been approached by the event. The Guardian reached out to Impression Isla Mujeres, one of the luxury hotels at which Fyre promised accommodation, which claimed it had not received “any approach or enquiry with regards to the event” and that it was investigating it. “The organisers didn’t even bother to approach the authorities,” said Gasca. “It’s very strange, because any manager knows that if you’re going to hold an event, let alone a massive event, you need municipal authorisation. “I think they thought they would just announce it and see if it got traction, then ask for the permits halfway down the path,” Gasca added. “It’s a bit of a naive way to think.” Last week, the festival took to social media to announce its return and described itself as “real” in a lengthy post. It billed itself as a “three-day escape to the Mexican Caribbean where you’ll explore by day alongside your favourite talent and come together at night to celebrate with music”. Fyre Festival 2 also claims that it will feature “adventures led by international and local talent, taking guests on boundary-pushing excursions by day and uniting for intimate beach-side performances at night”.
