NEW YORK (AP) — The deadline to get a REAL ID is fast approaching after years of postponements and delays
Watch an explainer about REAL ID from PBS News in our video player above
your license or identification card will need to be REAL ID-compliant to fly domestically in the U.S
it doesn’t seem like there will be another delay in the deadline this time
if you’re confused about how to get a REAL ID
and what happens if you don’t have one by May 7
It’s a federally compliant state-issued license or identification card that the DHS says is a more secure form of identification
Besides needing a REAL ID to fly domestically
you will also need one to access certain federal buildings and facilities
When the REAL ID Act was signed into law in 2005
it enacted a recommendation from the 9/11 Commission that the government set security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and IDs
“REAL ID is a coordinated effort by the federal government to improve the reliability and accuracy of driver’s licenses and identification cards,” John Essig
the Transportation Security Administration’s Security Director for airports in the New York City region said in a press release on April 3
“The improvements are intended to inhibit terrorists’ ability to evade detection by using fraudulent identification.”
The REAL ID Act was supposed to begin rolling out in 2008
“but has faced repeated delays due to state implementation challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Nina Ruggiero
senior editorial director for Travel + Leisure
“The combination of varying state processes and shifting deadlines has added to the overall confusion around REAL IDs and likely led some travelers to take the deadlines less seriously.”
If you’ve gotten a new ID in the last few years
“I also hear from travelers who are confused as to whether or not they already have a REAL ID,” Ruggiero said
“Some people who have recently renewed their license may already have a compliant ID and not know it,” so you may want to double-check yours before starting the process
A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license has a symbol (in most states
it’s possible you could have an “enhanced″ ID card instead
which permits you to cross land and sea borders into Mexico and Canada from the U.S
allow you to fly into either of those countries
Enhanced IDs will have an American flag icon
as well as the word “enhanced” at the top of the card
so you will need to visit the website of your state’s driver’s licensing agency to find out the specific steps
including whether you’ll need to make an appointment at a DMV and what documentation you’ll need when you get there
If you don’t have a REAL ID by the deadline and you’re planning to board a domestic flight
you will need to bring your passport or another TSA-approved form of identification when you travel
additional screening and the possibility of not being permitted into the security checkpoint,” warns TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein
TSA spokesperson Dan Velez told the AP that the agency does not intend to delay the REAL ID deadline again
81 percent of travelers at TSA checkpoints were presenting acceptable identification

playOgden questions if leaving Liverpool is a good move for Alexander-Arnold (1:38)Mark Ogden wonders if Trent Alexander-Arnold's best chance of success on the pitch is at Liverpool
rather than a likely switch to Real Madrid
a jubilant Kop crowed: "He's Alexander-Arnold
It has been a familiar refrain on Merseyside since the 26-year-old right back made his first-team debut in 2016
underscoring his rise from academy graduate to Premier League star
But now that Alexander-Arnold has announced he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season
the song may well have had its final airing at Anfield
I've got to a point now where I feel like I need a new change
a new challenge for me as a player and as a person," Alexander-Arnold revealed in a social media post on Monday
"And I think now is the right time for me to do that."
The timing of those reports from the Spanish capital aligned with a breakdown in contract talks at Anfield, with sources telling ESPN that -- after months of negotiations with sporting director Richard Hughes -- Alexander-Arnold rejected new terms that would have made him one of the best-paid fullbacks in the world
Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave was not fueled by financial incentives, but by a desire to try something new. Considering the defender joined Liverpool's academy at the age of 6 and has won everything there is to win at Anfield -- two Premier League titles (2020 and 2025), a single FA Cup, EFL Cup and Community Shield (all 2022), and one UEFA Champions League
FIFA Club World Cup (all 2019) -- there is logic behind his longing for a change of scenery
Arne Slot will have to find a way to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold's impact at both ends of the pitch. Liverpool FC via Getty ImagesHowever
football is a game of emotions and in some quarters of the Reds' fan base that logic will never tally with the image Alexander-Arnold has cultivated for himself as a homegrown hero
his decision to depart will sully a legacy that
had looked set to match or even eclipse that of fellow academy graduate Steven Gerrard
it is more likely comparisons will be drawn to Michael Owen and Steve McManaman -- both of whom garnered criticism from Liverpool supporters for swapping Merseyside for Madrid during their playing careers
After the Reds went on to lift the trophy that same year
Alexander-Arnold was afforded with a mural on Sybil Street
The elaborate artwork depicts the defender alongside the words: "I'm just a normal lad from Liverpool whose dream has just come true."
The club's hierarchy havs known for several weeks -- and likely suspected for even longer -- that it must plan for a future without its star right back
replacing a player of Alexander-Arnold's pedigree is an ominous challenge
He has provided 64 Premier League assists during his time at Liverpool -- more than any defender in the competition's history -- and was often the team's creative fulcrum under previous boss Jurgen Klopp
who often moved him up into central midfield
Now it might be that new head coach Arne Slot chooses to replace that ingenuity by adding to his midfield ranks rather than seeking a like-for-like replacement at right back
play1:59How would Trent fit in at Real Madrid with Alonso in charge?Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens discuss how Trent Alexander-Arnold might fit in at Real Madrid if Xabi Alonso is named as Carlo Ancelotti's replacement
quiet in a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in November
with Bradley having made only 27 top-flight appearances so far
it would be wise for Liverpool to dip into the market for a player who could both compete with and complement the youngster
While the transfer rumor mill will no doubt go into overdrive in the coming weeks and months
Liverpool's focus now will be on ending what has been a triumphant first season under Slot on a high
The images of Alexander-Arnold basking in the euphoria of his team's latest title win last weekend prompted Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury to ask the question that many Liverpool supporters have been pondering for some time: "How could Trent consider walking away from this?"
Although Alexander-Arnold's announcement may not have provided a definitive answer over why he chose to do so
it has at least brought all parties some clarity
It is not the fairy-tale ending that many fans will have hoped for but
it could be the start of an exciting new chapter
paving the way for a free transfer to Real Madrid
The 26-year-old confirmed the decision on his social media channels on Monday. He informed the Liverpool head coach, Arne Slot, that he would not be signing a contract extension at the end of March but kept the news private to avoid distracting from the club’s successful pursuit of the Premier League title
He is believed to have verbally agreed a five-year contract with Real Madrid that reports in Spain claim will be worth around £7.5m a year after tax
Confirmation of Alexander-Arnold’s exit as a free agent is a major setback for Liverpool
although the club believes it did everything within its power to convince the homegrown defender to stay
He was offered a new contract at Anfield that would have made him the best paid full-back in the Premier League and one of the highest paid full-backs in the world
the player’s desire for a fresh challenge usurped the financial and sporting package on offer at Liverpool
Upheaval at the top of the club – from sporting directors leaving to having to find a successor to Jürgen Klopp last year – meant talks over a new deal for Alexander-Arnold did not commence formally until Slot was appointed in May 2024
Richard Hughes made the first approach to Alexander-Arnold’s representatives before officially starting as Liverpool’s new sporting director on 1 June last year
but it became clear in March that the England international was set on a move to Spain and Liverpool would not be able to retain him as well as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk
both of whom recently signed new two-year contracts
“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club
now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” said Alexander-Arnold
“This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life
I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet
but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests
View image in fullscreenTrent Alexander-Arnold has made more than 350 appearances for Liverpool
winning the Champions League and two Premier League titles
Photograph: Joe Giddens/PA“This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years
the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever
I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge
taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally
“I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club
and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here
the staff and our incredible supporters – for the last 20 years
I’ve been blessed enough to live out my dreams here and I will never
ever take for granted the special moments I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived through with you all
Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s youth ranks at the age of six and made his first-team debut in a League Cup tie against Tottenham in October 2016
He has gone on to make 352 appearances for his boyhood club
scoring 23 goals and winning the Champions League
He has long been linked with a move to Real and the sense that he was destined to join the Spanish giants only strengthened after they made a £20m bid for the player on New Year’s Eve that was rejected immediately by Liverpool
The club knew they risked losing an asset for nothing this summer but were determined not to undermine their chances of winning the Premier League title
Liverpool could receive a compensation fee for Alexander-Arnold if he joins Real before his contract expires on 30 June
Real are competing in the Club World Cup this summer and are entitled to register new players from 1-10 June
it is unclear when Alexander-Arnold will complete his move to the Bernabéu
“Alexander-Arnold will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success,” read a Liverpool statement
The player will remain part of Slot’s squad for the final three games of the season and for the presentation of the Premier League trophy after the finale against Crystal Palace on 25 May
The defender has confirmed his decision to leave Liverpool

Liverpool have announced that Real Madrid target Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially decided to leave the British club
The 26-year-old will bring his two-decade-long association with the Reds to an end having made the decision to depart Anfield once his deal ceases on June 30
Alexander-Arnold said: “I think first and foremost
I want to say it’s not an easy decision and there’s a lot of thought and feeling that has gone into it
achieved everything I’ve ever wanted to here
Alexander-Arnold will therefore join Real Madrid as a free agent
with the club expecting to announce that deal after the end of the season

Real Madrid claimed their fourth La Liga win in a row
Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid held off a spirited Celta Vigo fightback to move back to within four points of La Liga leaders Barcelona before El Clasico next weekend
Carlo Ancelotti's side took the lead in the 33rd minute when a short corner was worked to Arda Guler
whose curling shot found the top corner via a slight deflection
Mbappe doubled the advantage six minutes later with a thumping finish high past Celta goalkeeper Vicente Guaita at the end of a swift Madrid counter
The France striker got his second three minutes into the second half as he ran on to Guler's excellent through ball to slot left-footed into the bottom corner
But the visitors kept going and Javi Rodriguez pulled one back with a little over 20 minutes remaining with a close-range finish after Madrid failed to clear a corner
What had looked like being a comfortable win suddenly became very tense when Celta legend Iago Aspas' pass matched his brilliant vision to set-up fellow substitute Williot Swedberg to make it 3-2 on 76 minutes
Pablo Duran so nearly equalised two minutes later after being sent clear by another wonderful bit of skill from Aspas
but home goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was able to recover after the initial shot squirmed under his body
With the away side pushing for an equaliser
there were chances at both ends in a frenetic finale
but Los Blancos stood firm to claim a crucial three points
Victory means defending champions Madrid head to Barcelona next Sunday knowing a fifth straight league win would leave them just a point behind their fierce rivals with three games remaining

Defending champions Madrid's fourth win in a row kept their title dream alive with four matches to go in the Spanish top flight
while Celta Vigo remained seventh after their third loss in four league games
"The most important thing was the win. We played a good first half, but then we fell apart ... They are a great team and they put us in trouble," midfielder Federico Valverde told Real Madrid TV
Mbappé doubled Madrid's lead six minutes later as Jude Bellingham's lobbed ball unleashed the Frenchman
who ran down the opposition half and fired a right-footed shot from the edge of the box into the net
Güler's through ball set up Mbappé's second goal three minutes into the second half, the 26-year-old finding the bottom-right corner to score his 24th league goal of the season. That is one less than Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski
But Celta Vigo, who lost only two of their previous 11 league games and nearly scored early on with two Marcos Alonso chances
The visitors began a fightback with their first goal 69 minutes in, Javi Rodríguez punishing the Madrid defence for failing to clear Sotelo's attempt off a corner with a close-range finish
Williot Swedberg scored Celta Vigo's second goal seven minutes later as Iago Aspas found him in the box with a precise through ball
Under pressure, Madrid did well to see out the final minutes as Courtois made crucial saves to deny Pablo Durán and Aspas to protect the hosts' lead
let's get ready for next Sunday," Courtois said

Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid have reached an agreement over the terms of his departure
The Athletic reported on April 27 Ancelotti was set to leave Madrid and take the Brazil head coach role on an initial one-year deal until the end of the 2026 World Cup
Conversations have been ongoing with Madrid over the details of his exit
which was largely dependent on reaching an agreement over his salary for the remaining year of his contract at the Bernabeu
The 65-year-old signed an extension in December 2023 which runs until 2026
A verbal agreement is now in place and pending formalities an official announcement confirming Ancelotti’s exit is expected before the end of the league season
That could come as soon as following Sunday’s Clasico with Barcelona
Madrid must then decide who will lead the team at the Club World Cup with Xabi Alonso the leading external option and director of football Santiago Solari seen as better placed than Castilla’s Raul Gonzalez or Juvenil A’s Alvaro Arbeloa as an internal choice
Ancelotti has been described by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) as “the president’s (Ednaldo Rodrigues’) dream”
and he has been in talks with the CBF since March
He had been expected to sign his contract with Brazil when he met with CBF representatives in London on April 28, but the move subsequently stalled
It was necessary for Ancelotti to reach a definitive agreement with Madrid before he could sign with Brazil
That is expected soon so he can be in place for June’s World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay
The Italian had other options beyond Brazil and received concrete interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia
while he could also have remained at Madrid in a non-coaching role
as per the terms of his 2023 contract extension
Bayer Leverkusen head coach Alonso is Madrid’s preferred choice to replace Ancelotti
The five-time Champions League winner is set to succeed Dorival Junior at Brazil, who was dismissed in March after 14 months in charge
Al Hilal’s Jorge Jesus has also been on the CBF’s head coach shortlist
Ancelotti re-joined Madrid in 2021 and has won two La Liga titles and the Champions League on three occasions across two spells at the club
He is the most decorated coach in club history with 15 titles and Madrid want his farewell to reflect that

It was the second time in three days that Antony had scored the winner
he got a superb second when Betis beat Fiorentina in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final
putting them within touching distance of a first European final
and him within reach of two continental winners’ medals in a season
“I’ve trained with him a thousand times and he’s never scored with his right foot,” David de Gea said
It also confirmed that Betis will play European football for a fifth consecutive season
and kept them within a point of a Champions League place – which would be their first in 20 years

A much-changed Athletic Club edged closer to securing Champions League football for next season with a goalless draw against Real Sociedad in the Basque derby.
Manager Ernesto Valverde made seven changes from the side that lost 3-0 to Manchester United in Thursday's Europa League semi-final first leg.
With one eye on Thursday's return at Old Trafford, influential forward Nico Williams wasn't named in the matchday squad and his absence was felt as the Bilbao side failed to create anything of note.
In a game of few chances all round, it was Sociedad who went closest midway through the second half, with Brais Mendez's header forcing a smart save from Unai Simon.
The draw left Athletic Club fourth on 61 points in La Liga, four clear of Real Betis in sixth place with four games left.
Sociedad moved one position and a point above Valencia in 11th spot.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Good American Family
Good American Family, out on Hulu
is inspired by the dramatic but real story of Natalia Grace
her adoptive parents said Grace was an adult who was posing as a child and had her age legally changed
examines why scrutiny grew over Grace’s age and identity
Here’s a look at a few of the biggest moments in Good American Family and how they match up with what Natalia and the Barnetts have said in past interviews
In the first season of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Michael Barnett explains why his family wanted to adopt Natalia: “We wanted to help somebody who was in danger of never being loved.”
But both Natalia and the Barnetts have accused each other of being abusive
The Barnetts have said that Natalia terrorized them
while Natalia has maintained that they were impatient with her
as someone who lives with chronic pain and trauma
But the minute she arrived in her new home
In the first season of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace
Michael said Kristine gave Natalia her first bath in the new house and gasped when she saw Natalia had full pubic hair
He says Natalia admitted to having a period and hiding bloody underwear
About six months into living with the Barnetts
he says Natalia would try to urinate on her six-year-old sibling Ethan
defecate in the car and smear the waste onto the younger boy
He also claimed that she’d fling the door open when the car was in motion
she was hit with a belt and pepper-sprayed
Good American Family weaves these stories into the plot
In one of the most dramatic scenes in the series
Kristine orders Natalia to clean the kitchen
and is later surprised when her cup of coffee tastes like cleaning fluid
Natalia is accused of trying to poison Kristine
while Natalia says she was having trouble cleaning the kitchen properly because of her short stature
Natalia says in the docu-series that in real life
The moment ruptured any trust they might have had
it’s rooted in this fear that Natalia is coming to poison us.” (Kristine Barnett did not participate in the docu-series or respond to the production's request for comment)
One of the biggest questions to this day is why the Barnetts changed Natalia’s age
but they started to believe she was an adult because she had pubic hair and adult teeth
Kristine makes it her mission to prove Natalia is an adult after noticing a bloody tampon on the floor of their home while she is taping a TV interview
She gets to work lining up doctors to prove Natalia is a 22-year-old adult
then gets her an apartment and makes her live on her own
It’s true that an Indiana court did change Natalia Grace’s birth year from 2003 to 1989 in 2012, after a detective thought her birth certificate looked fake, according to Michael. Like in the show, the real Natalia was made to live on her own in an apartment. In the docu-series, Natalia opens up about how her apartments were never made fully accessible to her
and didn’t have a phone she could use to call for help
A neighbor named Cynthia Mans took her under her wing
and invited her to live in her house with her husband Antwon
Natalia moved in with them and they looked after her
The docu-series shows Natalia’s birth date being changed back to 2003
following a genetics test that concluded she’s approximately 22-years-old
The second season of the docu-series ends with Natalia confronting her adoptive father Michael Barnett
“I beat myself up for not being stronger,” he tells her
She says that he earned her forgiveness because he came on the show and apologized
Good American Family ends with a version of this one-on-one conversation between Natalia and Michael
Natalia shows up at Michael’s house right after his acquittal and asks why he didn’t do more to help her
“You were supposed to be my dad.” Michael tells her that he “didn’t have the strength.”
Kristine and their son Jacob showed up to the house
Michael is caught off guard because he and Kristine are divorced
Kristine says there was a gas leak where she’s staying and asks Michael if they can stay with him
but not Kristine—making clear to Natalia that he is on her side
Jacob (Aaron Potter) turns to Natalia and apologizes for not doing more to stand up for her
and she tells him that it’s okay because he was also just a kid
The show ends with Natalia surrounded by the siblings in her new adopted family after Michael has been acquitted. They read out loud the many positive statements about their sister on social media, suggesting that no matter what happened legally with the Barnetts, Natalia won in the court of public opinion.

As Americans scramble to their local DMV to secure their REAL ID before the deadline
some may be wondering what other forms of personal identification will be accepted at airports
On May 7, every air traveler over the age of 18 will need to have compliant identification to pass through U.S
their domestic travel plans may be delayed
The requirement stems from the 2005 REAL ID Act, which established "minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards," according to the Department of Homeland Security
While this includes REAL IDs – or state-issued driver's licenses or identification cards with a star marking at the top – there are also other acceptable forms of ID that Americans who haven't updated their licenses yet can present at the airport
Some Americans may already have an Enhanced ID, which is a "state-issued enhanced drivers licenses that provide proof of identity and U.S. citizenship when crossing the U.S. border in a vehicle," according to DHS
They're currently issued by five states: Michigan
Vermont and Washington as a convenient way to enter Canada
While not all Enhanced IDs have the star marking
they are considered a compliant form of identification
so they can be used as an alternative to a REAL ID at airports
They're distinguished by an image of the U.S

Jesper Brenner, originally from Lexington, Massachusetts, is an architecture major at the University of Miami whose passion for design stems from a lifelong love of the arts.
He was drawn to architecture for its potential to directly impact people’s daily lives, aspiring to create buildings that spark moments of appreciation and joy. Brenner chose the University of Miami for its vibrant city atmosphere, tropical climate, and youthful energy—factors that offered him a new and exciting perspective. What kept him here was the motivation he found in both the academic program and the people around him.
While Brenner had already envisioned a career in architecture, his experiences at the University reinforced and expanded those goals, offering real-world insight through coursework and mentorship. Professors made a significant impact on his development, but it was the friendships he formed that provided constant inspiration and encouragement.
As he prepares to leave, Brenner shared what he will miss most, while also looking ahead as he continues his academic journey.
I’ve always found joy in the arts and design, and the ability to apply that passion at a scale that directly impacts people’s lives feels incredibly fulfilling. Buildings are often taken for granted—but to design something that makes someone pause and appreciate its beauty, even for a moment, feels like a meaningful contribution to someone’s day.
The city itself. Miami is unique—not just because of its tropical climate, but also for its youthfulness and energy. I was drawn to the idea of experiencing a different kind of environment and perspective.
I’ve felt consistently motivated—both by the program and the people around me. I’ve truly enjoyed learning here.
Most of my involvement has been as a teaching assistant, a role I’ve held for most of my time here. I really enjoy working with students. I was also part of the reopening of the Billy Goat Café, and I’m happy to have seen it brought back.
I had a general sense of my career direction when I applied to architecture schools, but being here has motivated and excited me even more for the future.
The program has reinforced my interests and helped me translate them into a tangible, functional career path. It’s also provided classes that acknowledge how things work in the real world, which has been incredibly helpful.
The professors I’ve learned from and worked with as a teaching assistant have been instrumental in shaping how I understand architecture. But most importantly, the friends I’ve made have kept me inspired and motivated every step of the way.
Being a teaching assistant. It means a lot to support future generations, assist the professors, and help keep things running smoothly.
Spending time in the Architecture Courtyard on nice days—especially when working or relaxing with friends. Also, going to a football game or two and sharing that school spirit is always a great time.
Seeing my friends and colleagues every day, all in one place. That daily sense of community is something I’ll really miss.
I’ll be continuing my education with a Master of Architecture at Princeton.

Anyone just starting the process to get a Real ID likely won’t meet the deadline
Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services spokesperson Chris Crabb said

because everyone waited until the last minute,” Crabb said
The first week in January saw 5,000 Real ID appointments across Oregon
Anyone attempting a walk-in appointment will likely have to wait hours to be seen
only about 37% of Oregonians with license credentials — nearly 1.4 million people — had been issued a Real ID
Anyone with a flight scheduled can still board with a passport

Trump in recent weeks has moved to undo years of criminal justice reform
He is making changes that increase police power
signaling a push to refill federal prisons and detention centers with Black and brown people and curbing the ability of those impacted to seek redress in courts
None of that is about justice or safety — most violent crime rates are actually declining, despite what the president would like us to believe. It’s about empowering authorities to act without fear of consequence, and undoing the changes in culture and law set in motion by the killing of George Floyd.

Multiple federal prosecutors in Los Angeles submitted resignations after U.S
Attorney Bill Essayli offered a plea agreement to an L.A

The real-time results of those moves can already be seen in Los Angeles

he is asking a judge to throw out a jury’s decision
attorney would basically tell a jury to stuff it isn’t just arrogant
It sends the message that if the people want to hold local authorities accountable for brutality
the federal authorities will simply override them
This is what Trump promised law enforcement during his campaign, and he is delivering. Do you remember in 2017 when, to cheers, he requested officers “don’t be too nice” when making arrests
The case in question feels spot-on for Trump’s plea
The incident that landed former Deputy Trevor Kirk in court stemmed from an arrest at a Lancaster grocery store in June 2023
Kirk grabbed a Black woman who matched the description of a suspect
threw her face-first to the ground while she filmed him and pepper-sprayed her
The woman was later treated for blunt force trauma to her head
The case was investigated by the FBI, and in April, Kirk was convicted of one felony count of deprivation of rights under color of law.
but Kirk could face up to 10 years in prison
Unless the judge accepts the dubious plea deal
in which case Kirk would plead guilty to a misdemeanor
which could result in probation rather than time behind bars
It would also mean Kirk would not be prevented from working in law enforcement again
An organization that that represents some sheriff’s deputies and which contacted Trump about the case, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Professional Assn., has long contended that the prosecution was “politically charged” and Kirk did nothing beyond the bounds of training or law. Many of his former fellow officers agree.
But prosecutors saw it differently, arguing in a three-day trial that the deputy had gone too far. The jury agreed.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a news release Monday that it would also pay for travel assistance

Three attorneys resigned from his office in the wake of his unusual request
To drive home the point, also last week, Trump signed an executive order on policing that promised to “unleash” U.S
law enforcement to “firmly police” criminal activity
“When local leaders demonize law enforcement and impose legal and political handcuffs that make aggressively enforcing the law impossible
crime thrives and innocent citizens and small business owners suffer,” Trump wrote
That same executive order promised to provide new legal protections for law enforcement and even help cover costs if an officer is sued

If you’ve been procrastinating about getting a REAL ID
any adult who plans to fly domestically — or visit a military base or other federal buildings — will need to present a REAL ID or other documents approved by the Transportation Security Administration
Wisconsin began issuing REAL IDs in 2013 after the REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005. The deadline for enforcement has been repeatedly delayed over the last two decades over worries that too many Americans were unprepared to meet the requirement
This time, the deadline is going to stick, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The agency is ticking off the seconds until enforcement begins
over 65 percent of Wisconsin residents have driver’s licenses or ID cards that are REAL ID compliant
according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
administrator of the Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles
said some staff from the DMV central office have been sent to customer service centers in the state in recent weeks to help with an uptick in people applying for the REAL ID before enforcement begins.
“We have seen increased customer volume into our customer service centers,” Winkler said
“We feel confident we’re going to be able to keep wait times very low
despite the increased customer volume we’re seeing as we approach that May 7 enforcement deadline.”
Winkler said many of those customers are coming in because they’re worried about missing the deadline
But anyone can still apply for a REAL ID after May 7
If you don’t have a REAL ID by that date
especially if you don’t plan to fly in the U.S
“If you’re not planning to fly in the next few months and you don’t have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card or other forms of documentation
probably waiting a little bit to move forward with obtaining a REAL ID document is a good approach,” he said.
You also aren’t required to get a REAL ID
“We know there are a number of Wisconsinites who will never need a REAL ID-compliant product,” Winkler said
“They’re not going to fly in a commercial aircraft
They’re not going into a federal facility or onto a military base
and they don’t need that credential.”
The easiest way to know if you have a REAL ID is by checking the upper right-hand corner of your driver’s license or ID card
You can also check on this website.
You will need to go to the DMV in person to obtain a REAL ID. You can find the closest DMV to you here.
The DMV is encouraging people to use an online portal to make the process quicker. That portal, the Driver License Guide, creates a customized checklist of all the documents someone needs to bring to apply for the REAL ID.
“It also allows customers to pre-fill any required application
print and bring with them or submit electronically [if eligible],” a statement from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said
“Customers may also be able to schedule a DMV appointment for faster service.”
You will have to present documents to apply. The DMV will only accept “original document or certified copy (not a photocopy, fax or scan).”
You’ll need more that just your birth certificate to apply and should be prepared to bring documents like your passport or passport card
You must also provide your social security number
Some of those documents can be used for more than one category
“There is no cost to upgrade to a Real ID,” a Wisconsin Department of Transportation spokesperson wrote in an email
you’ll be paying the cost of the renewal (generally $34)
it will be $14 for the duplicate (replacement) card.”
If you’re planning to fly domestically
you could run into some issues at the TSA checkpoint at the airport if you don’t have a REAL ID by May 7
Jessica Mayle, regional spokesperson for the TSA, said to expect some delays if you come to the airport without a REAL ID or any other approved documents after the deadline
“What we are telling these passengers is to expect delays,” Mayle said
and they face the possibility of not being able to make it to the [security] checkpoint if we’re unable to verify their identity
So those consequences are possible.”
Mayle said the length of the delay could vary.
“It really might depend on how many other people are in that situation with you being out of compliance at the same time,” Mayle said.
If you don’t have a REAL ID by the deadline, you can also use a passport or U.S. passport card at airport security, along with some other identification cards outlined by the TSA
An April 11 statement from the TSA said 81 percent of travelers at TSA checkpoints “present an acceptable identification including a state-issued Real ID.”

What other identification can I use to fly if I don't have REAL ID?As of May 5, the TSA lists the following as acceptable identification at the airport checkpoint. Check this webpage before traveling in case anything changes
The TSA currently accepts expired IDs up to a year after expiration

Are you one of the many Americans still without a Real ID

No airlines have announced across-the-board flexibility for those who cannot fly or miss their flights due to security delays or Real ID issues
Long DMV lines have been reported in some large cities around the country
but they may shorten after the deadline passes
The TSA said a temporary driver's license is not accepted
It also warned that this list can change at any time and said travelers should check the agency's website before traveling to verify that their form of ID is still accepted
You can also get through security without an updated ID
but you will need to answer questions like your name and current address to verify your identity
but you could be subject to extra screening
This has always been the case (as people who have forgotten their wallets have learned the hard way)
but the TSA said this will likely cause delays as more passengers require the alternative method

A Sun Country spokesperson told BI it would not offer flight waivers if travelers arrive without a Real ID and that its standard change and cancellation policies would apply

Travelers may also use a U.S. passport, permanent resident card, Enhanced Tribal Card, foreign-government issued passport, and several other forms of identification accepted by the TSA for air travel
Additionally, five states issue an Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) and Enhanced ID (EID)

travelers is not ready for new TSA ID requirements when flying
and they can expect delays because of extra screening measures starting Wednesday
That’s when REAL ID enforcement begins
Driver’s licenses without a REAL ID “star” on them will not work
“Our goal is not to turn people away,” said Lorie Dankers
a Transportation Security Administration spokesperson
“If we can find a way to verify your identity
… But it’s not something we’re going to be able to do for every traveler
They need to arrive early to make sure we're able to accommodate them.”
More: Checking your bags? TSA bans item before Real ID deadline. Here's what's no longer allowed
TSA screens more than 2.5 million people each day across the country
“TSA estimates that 81% of the traveling public is ready for REAL ID enforcement
“That means 500,000 people are going to come to the checkpoint
and not be ready for REAL ID enforcement,” she said
“There's no way our operation can withstand that.”
federal security directors at each airport have put together operational plans to help folks get through TSA checkpoints at their locations even without a REAL ID
“For those who are ready for REAL ID enforcement
it's going to be a smooth and efficient trip through the checkpoint — they're not going to even notice any difference,” she said
“It's those individuals who are not ready for whatever reason for REAL ID enforcement who will see delays.”
More: Does my child need REAL ID to fly? We've got the answer to that question and more
their old driver’s license is marked void and they’re given a piece of paper saying they’ve been approved for REAL ID
It can take a week or more for the new piece of identification to arrive in the mail
Dankers said the piece of paper with the voided license is not considered REAL ID compliant
In such a case, she recommends bringing another acceptable form of identification: a passport, a federally recognized tribal ID, a military ID and a few others listed on the TSA website
you should bring the voided license and letter along with other documentation that can help identify you
These will help speed the additional screening you're going to face
Dankers said she couldn't give a recommendation on how early to arrive at the airport if you don’t have REAL ID compliant identification
“The amount of time you’ll face for delays is determined by the number of other people who show up who are also in the same situation,” she said
Misinformation about REAL IDThere are two things Dankers has seen that aren’t correct
“Number 1 is that TSA only accepts driver’s licenses,” she said. “That’s not true. We accept multiple forms of ID.”
Dankers has also heard people saying that they will be turned away without a REAL ID
“We're not going to do a blanket turning away of people,” she said
“But also be very cognizant of what is expected from the U.S
Dankers said TSA will be deploying their plainclothes staff at airports to help travelers who showed up without proper identification
As for how long TSA will keep extra measures in place to help minimize REAL ID issues
“We’ll have to see operationally what happens,” she said
“If we make it to May 7 and we find that most people are actually in compliance
Then Memorial Day and July 4 are coming up
“We’re looking at large travel volumes so we’ll be watching and monitoring this closely,” Dankers said
“There’s nothing more important to us than keeping our operations moving smoothly.”

The Transportation Security Administration has banned another travel item ahead of the May 7 Real ID deadline
Mississippi residents will need a passport or new identification to fly on commercial airlines
They'll also be required to get onto military bases or access secure federal facilities
according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s Driver Service Bureau
Portable chargers and power banks containing a lithium-ion battery can be packed in carry-on bags only and kept inside the aircraft cabin, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's latest guidance
To check which items are allowed or banned on board, check the TSA's online search function
Implementation was supposed to happen in previous years but was pushed back because of a paperwork backlog during COVID
Department of Homeland Security will require people without passports or other compliant identification to have a Real ID seal on all state-issued identification cards for specific tasks
You can get a Real ID driver's license or identification card from your local motor vehicle department. Go to your local Mississippi Department of Safety office or schedule an appointment online
According to DHS
state driver’s licensing agencies can have different documentation requirements
All Real IDs will have a stamp on the right-hand corner to show that it is federally compliant. The symbol stamped on your Real ID card will vary, depending on the issuing state. In Mississippi, it's a gold star
carry out bank transactions and apply for or get federal benefits
state firearm permits aren't considered official IDs and won't get the gold star
Any traveler who has an up-to-date passport, or any other TSA-approved form of identification does not need a real ID to travel domestically
which are only issued in a couple of states
are considered acceptable alternatives to REAL ID-compliant cards

(WICS) — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is urging residents to get informed about REAL ID requirements as the May 7 deadline approaches
Giannoulias emphasized that the date is not a strict deadline
as DMVs will continue to issue REAL IDs beyond May 7
Americans will need a REAL ID compliant driver’s license or ID
to board a domestic flight," Giannoulias said
he noted that if individuals are not traveling immediately after May 7
Giannoulias advised residents who do not need a REAL ID in May to consider delaying their visit to avoid long waits
The primary reason for Illinoisans over the age of 18 to obtain a REAL ID is to fly domestically on a commercial aircraft after May 7
as well as individuals under the age of 18
Giannoulias announced the extension of the REAL ID Saturdays program and the REAL ID Supercenter until the end of May
He urged residents to confirm their need for a REAL ID before visiting a DMV
Expect to see long lines at North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) locations this week as the REAL ID deadline quickly approaches
a REAL ID will be required to fly domestically in the United States
The DMV has tried to cut down wait times in recent weeks
and those could only get worse with just two days left until the deadline
WRAL 5 On Your Side has tracked complaints against the DMV for years
but viewer complaints about DMV delays are at an all-time high
there are three factors contributing to backlogs -- in-person license renewals
staffing shortages and the deadline to get a REAL ID
Last month, the DMV expanded hours at 42 locations to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The change means 80% of the state's 115 DMV driver license offices are now open 10 hours per day. The agency is looking into new technology and also named a new DMV commissioner
who has said he will work to address wait times
staffing challenges and customer satisfaction
Only about 52% of North Carolinians have their REAL ID
The DMV says there is no rush to get a REAL ID unless you have upcoming air travel
The DMV will continue to issue REAL IDs after May 7
but a passport can be used for air travel in place of a REAL ID
Veterans also have another option -- they can use their Veteran Health Identification Card
Children under 18 don’t need an ID for domestic travel
Everything to know about getting a REAL ID
The REAL ID looks similar to a traditional drivers license but has a star in the top right corner
and the process to get one is similar to obtaining a regular drivers license
If a person has had their name legally changed -- such as taking a married name -- additional documents may be needed to verify that name change
Additional documents may also be needed for people who are not U.S
The state Department of Transportation (DOT) does note that the REAL ID is optional
Anyone under 18 is also not required to have a REAL ID to travel on airplanes. A full list of documents required to obtain a REAL ID is available on the DMV website
Scammers know the REAL ID deadline is here and are looking to take advantage of people who still need to get one by promising to expedite the process
Experts warn is no third-party organization or fast track that can accelerate the process to get your REAL ID
'How do I get my REAL ID sooner?,' then there will be websites that will promise for a fee that they can get you your real ID faster," explained Ian Bednowitz
but then you give them your personal information."

when I noted my surprise at Cynthia being an essential element to the season 16 formula
I had no idea to what extent those words would ring true
reviving an episode that was otherwise circling the drain on the heels of the Nashville trip
Like Annaleise Keating frantically shaking a dying Bonnie Winterbottom
Cynthia uses her powers as Bravo’s messy fairy godmother to sustain the threads of a promising season while the main cast snaps out of their shell shock
Between pistol-gate and the chaotic ending of Porsha’s birthday
each woman retreats to their private corner in Atlanta
returning to the personal stories we’ve seen since the premiere
slowing the momentum the season was building post-Kenaya — Shamea makes progress in choosing a surrogate in hopes of having a baby boy; Kelli throws a campy birthday party for her dog; Porsha welcomes a new au pair
and subjects us to more conversations with Dennis; but thankfully
the other housewife with a fame thirsty ex
had zero solo scenes so we only had to endure one knucklehead
Brit’s unhinged family scenes further derail the season’s progress with over-the-top histrionics
that only her poor grandma could put an end to
It begins with the family packing up Brit’s mom’s house as she prepares to sell it and move in with her daughter
Brit feels closer than ever to her sisters
although it’s still hard to gauge what exactly the issue is between the three women
Brit alludes to selling her business and marrying Mike as the driving force of discord
Brit’s a proven unreliable narrator — this is coming from a woman who threatened to wield a gun because Kenya didn’t hug her tight enough
and I’m sure there are years of drama to uncover with many different perspectives and truths
but what we see tonight barely scratches the surface
What we get is a dramatized reenactment of arguments they’ve had in the past
bolstered for the invisible audience the cameras are capturing content for
This isn’t to say their issues aren’t real
but the performance reads like a tired attempt from Brit at an early Keeping up with the Kardashians style framing of intergenerational drama
Her sister Cher wavers on the verge of a meltdown at every moment
bursting into hysterics because her mother no longer has her late father’s liquor in the cabinets (he passed a decade ago)
“How dare you give all his stuff away?” and her mom responds
He died!” while Brit delivers a monotone “Cher
please!” (Drew needs to go to their house for some acting lessons)
the whole family is crying over the phone with the third sister
who understandably declined the invitation to join the filming session and appears to be doing some shopping instead
but our girl isn’t going to let yet another season of RHOA turn into a sinking ship — she dusts off her vintage peach and gets to work filming with all factions of the cast to keep the Nashville tea piping hot
A veteran Housewife knows better than to let something so juicy sit on ice until the next group event
If no one else will put on the shadow producer hat (I really think that’s the biggest element missing from the main cast; Angela can’t be the only one carrying the burden of plot progression on her back)
she approaches her task like an investigation
where she can hear from witnesses before heading to Porsha and Angela for their respective sides
Shamea spills Brit’s contribution to the conversation about Charles’s alleged outside child
and Kelli reveals Porsha’s incriminating quote about fucking The Enforcer
which is reiterated during Cynthia’s meeting with Angela
Shamea also shares new tea that reignites her rift with Angela
After texting Angela following the last night in Nashville
Shamea receives a response so long that production had to edit her re-reading
With phrases like “fake-ass sisterhood” and “it’s clear our morals and values don’t align,” before ending the text with “be blessed,” Angela draws a hard line in the sand with Porsha’s bodyguard
a natural liar whose gift for gab allows her to spin narratives in real time
says she doesn’t remember saying anything and emphasizes that she wouldn’t have sex with anyone’s husband (lol)
continuing to cobble together a narrative more palatable than the truth
admitting to calling Angela Big Bird but conveniently leaving out anything to do with Charles
has no choice but to tell the truth about the trip
she downloads what went down in Nashville for her husband
who at first defends Porsha against “the streets.” Angela tells him to “stay on this Porsha wagon,” before informing him that this is the same woman who said Charles is so easy that she could fuck him herself
more interested in watching his wife defend his honor
smirking as he says he wants a ticket to that fight
And who better to set up the boxing ring than Cynthia
breathing life into an episode that would’ve been two stars if it weren’t for the divine intervention that is the annual Bailey-que
She claims to have moved up the occasion for Juneteenth (she usually throws it for the Fourth of July)
but we all know it’s a production Hail Mary
Lake Bailey is the perfect location for the first group meeting since the trip
invoking memories of old RHOA while setting the scene for amusing confrontations with the new class
Cynthia even invites a prophet — don’t worry
it’s not the salacious prophet from season thirteen; Tash is an “intuitive life strategist.” I have no idea what the hell that means and I truly don’t care as long as she does the one job of any occultist who appears on a Bravo show: start some bullshit
Prophet Tash is no Alison from RHOBH or Scott from RHOC
immediately getting to work reading the ladies’ energy
She tells Brit to focus on her business and encourages Kelli to embrace her fresh start post-divorce (the amount of blow-job style shots she did that night shows she took her reading to heart)
but things start to get really messy when she advises Angela to keep the sexy alive in her marriage
Prophet Tash asks if Charles has his eye on a Porsche
asking the prophet to clarify if he has his eyes on a Porsche or a Porsha
Porsha arrives at Lake Bailey with Drew following close behind (Drew insisting to be read in private made me chuckle; she is too dramatic)
With the whole group convened in Cynthia’s iconic living room
saying the prophet was spot on with her readings
While Angela understandably entered the scene on the defense
it’s once again Brit whose defensiveness is incongruous with the situation
When Angela asks why the energy is on ten regarding her reading
The spirit of Bailey-ques past living inside Cynthia’s couches possesses the women
triggering a back and forth between a reactive Brit and an always quick-on-her-feet Angela leading to Angela joking about Brit’s “big ass mouth with the stretch marks” before saying there’s miles on it
Whether this was a jab at the illicit pictures
Things get so bad — the baby rumor comes flying out of Brit’s mouth with a loud-ass Kelli hilariously parroting it as if no one heard — that referee Cynthia shuts down the conversation with a random trivia contest about Juneteenth
but I appreciate her commitment to Black history
After Cynthia’s attempt at an educational moment
and she drags Angela into a separate room so she can hold court to hash out her grievances with Porsha and Shamea
covering her ass despite Angela holding her feet to the fire
They give each other passive-aggressive apologies
Angela holds Shamea accountable for sitting and giggling while Porsha disparages Charles
Shamea shows the side of her that makes her such good friends with Porsha
and tries to play her involvement off as a joke
We end with a mid-season trailer teasing Phaedra’s return
the demise of Shamea and Porsha’s relationship
and a feud between Brit and Kelli … it doesn’t take a prophet to see season sixteen has a lot more in store for us
• Sometimes I wonder if Dennis and Porsha are actually a match made in heaven
They have the same knack for spinning the truth — Dennis saying he just happened to be at the studio when Drew arrived with cameras
let in the crew so they can film Drew walking through the door
I’m happy she came to the conclusion that she had a baby with a wanna-be Househusband because I have a feeling they’ll be doing this dance for a long time
• Although tonight Charles was nonchalant about being brought into the drama
And what a trailer that was — I’m feeling confident that these early-season hiccups are leading us somewhere great
and it looks like Porsha might finally lean into her villain era as she films with Ralph

a standard driver's license will no longer get you past security at the airport for domestic flights
as the TSA and FAA will require a new REAL ID in order to fly domestically
The new REAL ID has been in the works since the terrorist attacks on Sept
2001 The ID meets stricter requirements and can be recognized by a gold star located in the upper right corner of the identification card
The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 to “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification
such as driver's licenses and identification cards.” While it took about two decades to be officially implemented
If you don't have a REAL ID and won't be able to get one before the May 7 deadline
there are a few other documents that passengers can use to get through the TSA checkpoint and onto their flights
Before this month's deadline, the TSA published a list of 15 REAL ID alternatives that passengers can use if they have not yet made the switch.

The TSA told Travel + Leisure: “Those over 18 years old without a REAL ID-compliant credential may face delays and
when a passenger’s identity cannot be verified
they may be denied entry into the secure area of the airport.”
Americans will need a Real ID to travel domestically by plane
but many are still unsure whether they have one or why they need one
you could face delays or be turned away at airport security
But don’t panic just yet — there are a few alternatives
and you may already have a Real ID without realizing it
Here’s a quick breakdown of what a Real ID is
and what to do if you’re running out of time
A Real ID is a state-issued driver’s license or ID that meets federal security standards
according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
These rules were introduced after the 9/11 attacks to improve security at airports
While originally set to take effect in 2008
the deadline has been delayed several times due to “state implementation challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to the Associated Press
Real IDs have a star in the top right corner
If your symbol looks a little different from someone else’s
don’t worry — some states have their own variations
California has a white star inside a golden bear
while Texas uses a gold circle with a white star
visit a federal facility that doesn’t require ID (like a post office)
if you’re over 18 and plan to fly domestically or visit certain federal facilities and you don’t have a valid U.S
The passport will get you anywhere within the U.S
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spokesperson Lisa Farbstein warns you could face “delays
and the possibility of not being permitted into the security checkpoint.”
you can choose an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL)
flag instead of a star and includes a chip that streamlines re-entry into the U.S
neither can be used for international air travel — you’ll still need a valid passport for that
You might already have one without realizing it — as of late April, 81 percent of travelers at TSA checkpoints were using a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or passport, according to DHS
To get a Real ID, start by visiting your state’s driver’s licensing agency website to see what documents are required. You can also go to the Department of Homeland Security’s site and click on your state for step-by-step instructions
DHS recommends checking your state’s website for a full list of acceptable documents
have reported a shortage of available appointments in recent weeks
If you’ve got a flight coming up and don’t have time to get a Real ID

A lot of people are stressing about the REAL ID deadline this week
despite the fact that the vast majority of them are already compliant
But it's still a good idea to check to make sure
especially if you are planning on flying anywhere
Starting on Wednesday, May 7, you must have a REAL ID-compliant state-issued driver's license or state ID card
Volusia County Tax Collector Will Roberts said that 99% of people in the county with a driver's license or ID are REAL ID-ready
"That goes for most of the state of Florida
The state started issuing them in 2010 after Congress passed the REAL ID Act to establish minimum security standards for getting a license anywhere across the country and prohibited some federal agencies from accepting anything less
newly required documents to get one quickly
Roberts encouraged that small percentage of people who don't have one to go ahead and get it done
For those who still need to get an updated ID
REAL ID Florida driver's licenses have a star in the top right corner
If your license has a gold star on the top right
What if I try to fly without a REAL ID after May 7?If you don't have one and don't have your passport or other acceptable form of identification
You still have options under that "other acceptable form of identification" part
As of April 15, the TSA lists the following as acceptable identification at the airport checkpoint. Check this webpage before traveling in case anything changes
What do I need to get a REAL ID card in Florida? You’ll need to bring original copies of primary documents to prove your identity, legal residence, Social Security status and date of birth. You can find the list of accepted documents here
NOTE: Birth certificates must be issued by a county health department or the CDC Bureau of Vital Statistics
Hospital birth certificates are not considered a certified document and will not be accepted
There are different document lists for immigrants, non-immigrants, and Canadians wanting a REAL ID card
Volusia County residents can go to one of several tax collectors' branches that offer driver's license services. Locations across Florida can be found here
What issues is the Volusia County tax collector seeing with driver's license renewals? The tax collector assumed driver's license and ID services from the state a few years ago
The offices have been seeing high demand for driver's license renewals unrelated to the REAL ID
According to the Volusia County Tax Collector's Office
some of the most common issues the office sees with people trying to renew their licenses include:
People can go to the driver's license webpage on the Volusia County tax collector's website for more details or call 386-254-4610
Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer
the club and England international have confirmed
Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid as a free agent
with sources in Spain — speaking anonymously to protect relationships — suggesting a proposed six-year agreement
to join the Spanish side has now entered its final stages and is on course to be signed in the coming weeks
Alexander-Arnold will finish a journey that began aged six by lifting the Premier League title for a second time
adding it to a collection of trophies that includes the 2019 Champions League
now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season
This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life
I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this… pic.twitter.com/emAw5RvXq0
— Trent Alexander-Arnold (@TrentAA) May 5, 2025
achieved everything I’ve ever wanted to here,” he told Liverpool’s official website
I’ve got to a point now where I feel like I need a new change
a new challenge for me as a player and as a person
And I think now is the right time for me to do that.”
“There’s a lot I would like to say,” he said of Liverpool fans
You guys have been there from the start with me
everything that you guys have done has never been unnoticed by me
I hope they have felt that has been reciprocated and that I’ve given everything I could to the club
“I’m just hoping that we’re able to carry on winning games
the noise [around my decision] doesn’t take away from the fact of what we’ve achieved this season
It has been amazing to be part of it and I just hope that everyone is able to maybe not dwell on this news for too long and be able to celebrate what the rest of the lads have done.”
With his contract entering its final six months Alexander-Arnold has been able to negotiate with Madrid
Liverpool rejected an approach from Madrid to sign Alexander-Arnold in January in December, choosing instead to prioritise their pursuit of the Premier League and Champions League titles over receiving a transfer fee
The Athletic reported in October that Madrid had made Alexander-Arnold a priority target with the defender saying the previous month a desire to win trophies would be the biggest factor in deciding his future
“The most important thing is trophies if I’m honest,” Alexander-Arnold told reporters
I’m a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite
That’s probably the main factor of anything
who wants to win and will do anything to win then that’s what drives them.”
Resolving Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future has been one of the primary objectives for new sporting director Richard Hughes
with the right-back among three crucial players — alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk — whose existing Liverpool terms were scheduled to expire in the summer
On April 11, Liverpool announced that Salah had signed a new contract which runs until June 2027, while Van Dijk committed his own future to the club a week later with a two-year extension.
Alexander-Arnold has made 352 Liverpool appearances
He played an integral role in ending Liverpool’s wait for a first Premier League title in 2019-20 and won the PFA young player of the year award for his performances that season
Alexander-Arnold has won the Champions League
FA Cup and Carabao Cup (twice) during his 19 years the club
He was named vice-captain by former manager Jurgen Klopp following the departure of Jordan Henderson
Dani Carvajal has been Madrid’s first-choice right-back with the versatile Lucas Vazquez often deputising in the position
Carvajal sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury earlier this season and subsequently signed a one-year contract extension until June 2026
while Vazquez’s terms expire at the end of this campaign
At Madrid, Alexander-Arnold is set to join England team-mate and close friend Jude Bellingham and follow in the footsteps of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen in swapping Anfield for the Santiago Bernabeu
A free transfer in July 2025 comes a year after Madrid executed a similar deal to sign Kylian Mbappe following the expiry of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain
They have also had success with other out-of-contract acquisitions in Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba in recent years
Alexander-Arnold has made 42 appearances for Liverpool this season
despite missing four games in March and April with an ankle injury
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season will cut deep at Anfield
they are losing arguably the most dynamic right-back in European football
They will miss his creative spark and remarkable range of passing
His tally of 64 assists is the most by a defender in Premier League history
But Liverpool will be waving goodbye to much more than that
His bond with the club goes back to when he first joined the academy at the age of six
It’s been some ride over the past 20 years as he lived the dream and helped Liverpool win the biggest prizes
He has developed into a leader in the dressing room and had previously spoken about wanting to wear the captain’s armband on a permanent basis
So too the attraction of experiencing a different way of life and playing alongside his close friend
But unlike Steve McManaman and Michael Owen before him
he can’t claim that he’s heading to the Spanish capital to satisfy a thirst for silverware given Liverpool’s form since Arne Slot took over as head coach
Losing Alexander-Arnold isn’t a good look for Liverpool’s owners given that a £100million asset will be walking away for nothing
It should have been sorted long before this season
his best years remain ahead of him and the fact that they won’t be spent on the red side of Merseyside is a bitter pill to swallow
By Real Madrid correspondent Guillermo Rai
While Madrid have pursued ‘generational talents’ in recent seasons
Prospects such as Leny Yoro and Endrick were so highly rated that the Madrid board was convinced to take a bet on them
This is not the case with Alexander-Arnold
and is vastly experienced in elite football
As his contract expires this summer and he is free to leave
Alexander-Arnold’s case was conceived more as a market opportunity for Madrid — similar to a player like Antonio Rudiger
who departed Bayern Munich on a free transfer the previous year
Alexander-Arnold will reinforce a position in which Madrid had not signed anyone since 2019
while Carvajal is facing months on the sidelines after suffering that ACL injury in October
All of this has forced a change of plan and signing the Liverpool full-back has been prioritised
Madrid’s coaching staff consider him to be a first-class player not only as a defender but also for his ability to move into midfield and to deliver from set pieces
After the club’s great experience with Bellingham
who has a long-standing friendship with Alexander-Arnold
Madrid once again feel they are gambling smartly on an English star
Kentucky travelers who miss Wednesday’s Real ID enforcement date won’t necessarily be grounded
but they will have a longer screening process
Real IDs have extra security features making them harder to counterfeit
The Transportation Security Administration says those who need to board a domestic flight and don’t have an upgraded driver’s license or another acceptable form of Real ID will have to go through additional verification checks
They should arrive at the airport three hours early
but if you’re coming to the airport without the right ID
you’re gonna need some extra time to go through those processes," TSA regional spokesman Mark Howell told WKU Public Radio
Those travelers will be allowed to board flights unless their identity can’t be verified by alternative means
“For the time being, we’re going to give everybody a little grace, understanding there are some challenges in getting Real IDs," Howell said
about 80% of the traveling public nationwide has a Real ID
Real IDs aren’t mandatory in Kentucky as they are in some other states
but they’re still required to fly within the U.S.
and enter certain federal buildings and military installations
Those travelers will have to go through additional verification checks and a longer screening process and should arrive at the airport three hours early
They’ll be allowed to board flights unless their identity can’t be verified by alternative means
Passports and military credentials are among documents that qualify as TSA-approved identification
Travelers under age 18 are not required to provide identification when traveling with a companion and are not subject to Real ID requirements

the state Transportation Cabinet is promoting remote renewal alternatives
Those “Skip the Line” renewal options include:
“We understand the frustration of lines and want everyone to know what’s available to save them the time and hassle of unnecessary waits,” said Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray in a news release

“He was the pope that spoke to me most directly,” John says
“And I feel lucky that I got to become aware of his work while learning about farming.”
Ricardo asks John what he hears Jesus saying to him when he reads
Jesus is saying: “I totally understand who you are
and I want you in this flock.” That intimacy shapes his writing—and how he invites preachers to write: with heart

it was lambing season on our organic mix farm in the Irish Midlands
There is something about this time of year that gives me great joy—it is a time when the mystery of life surrounds us and holds us
and a lamb crosses over the threshold of the womb and emerges into the breathing world
is when I often give thanks in the barn to the Almighty
for this is a place of the business of life
Sheep are earthly creatures: They are born
and they follow me,” and we know that the Father has given them
And there is a line from him that has always resonated with me
that we must have the “smell of the sheep” about us
That smell comes from being with the flock
have the smell of their congregation of real people about them
he meant something of the life of the shepherd
the lives of Jesus and the disciples can seem so far removed from our modern world
that dance has not changed so greatly in the 2000 years since the time of their writing
We still reap from the earth and give thanks for the harvest
There is life and death in our everyday occurrence
I wanted to farm 12 sheep on our family farm
the sheep were a way for me to gain a foothold in a search that had taken me across the world
I had completed a book and was suffering from what my wife called “burnout.” I called it “soul tiredness.” I was empty and worn
And I found myself facing empty pages and abandoned projects
It was at this time that John Clare, the English pastoral poet, came into my life. Clare, long dead, was someone who had written about farming life, albeit in the 1800s. It was a line that spoke of being in the cathedral of nature, of sleeping in an untroubled land where the grass was below, and the vaulted sky was above—where one could abide with one’s creator. I do not know what it was about that stanza from his poem, “I Am!,” but it moved me
I threw away my fantasies of books and instead moved into the living sea of the family farm
It was there in that place that I slowed down a once busy life and settled into nature’s pace
I began to think of the great tapestry of life
and the teachings the natural world can provide us
In the barn there hangs a woodblock print of St
which we take down during the lambing and calving seasons
We pray for safe births and blessings in this time
I often find myself saying silent or whispered prayers
we encounter the “divine spark” in the good and bad of the everyday life of farming
I feel myself as part of the song of the ancients
can understand the Gospels in an intimate way
from migrant farm workers in the US to small tenant farmers in Europe
I came to understand that I was meeting the people of the land
These people work in harmony with the earth
but also work in unison with the good word
My journey in working with the sheep taught me about life
The resounding call from that sojourn into the earth was love
but stopping with them.” I learned about the flock of life by working with my own flock
and now I know that the Lord does too—and so he can for you

— There was a bit of a stampede for walk-in slots at Richmond-area DMV offices Monday morning
since anyone flying in the United States will not be able to use a standard driver's license as ID starting Wednesday
For a list of the documents you can use in the required categories, click here
While many potential travelers have set appointments
others tried to arrive early and get in line for walk-in slots
some found they did not have every document they needed while others who already had it said the wait extended to other services
I have to use my passport inside the United States," one person waiting at the office told CBS 6
it presents a little problem," said another
Another person said they were waiting two hours before CBS 6 spoke to them
"I am now going to get a financial statement from my bank
They're requesting that even though I've already bought bills and things like that
so they're now asking for financial statements."
and I just am now leaving," said one person
who added the DMV was able to help when they didn't have every document they needed
I mean the lines," a different person told CBS 6
What was your experience getting a Real ID? Email the CBS 6 Newsroom
A deadline’s coming up this week. It's not as dire as tax day, but it’s pretty important, especially if you travel a lot.
The Real ID sprang from Congress in 2005 after the 9/11 terrorist attack of 2001. It was enacted as a way to improve identification security.
It’s had 20 years of delays for a variety of reasons, including the Great recession and the Pandemic. It’s back now at a time when the feds are cracking down on immigrants throughout the country.
Who can and can’t get a Real ID? How do you get one? Are you fined or pay more if you miss the deadline? And should everyone try to get one—because some believe it would set them up for a visit from ICE?
Tonya Laney is the director of Nevada’s Department of Motor Vehicles, and she answered a lot of questions about how to get one, and why people shouldn't panic if they don't have one yet.
Q: What is the difference between a Real ID and a standard Nevada driver's license or identification card?
A: In addition to identity documents that are used to obtain the REAL ID, you're required to show any legal proof of name changes along your path to your current name, such as marriage, divorce, adoption, as well as proof of current Nevada residency, which we have a list of documents that can be used to to prove where you live in the state of Nevada, to be able to obtain the Nevada REAL ID.
Q: If you go in now for a driver's license, does it automatically become a real ID? I mean, is there something on it that tells you it's a real ID? How do you know if you have one?
A: So if the customers have come in and presented all the information that is required for the REAL ID, then there will be a gold star that is placed at the top right hand corner of the driver's license or identification, and that determines that it is a real ID. You won't see the actual wording or anything to indicate it, but it is that gold star in the upper right hand corner. And for Nevada, it's in the shape of the state of Nevada.
Q: What are the potential consequences, if any, for those who don't have a Real ID by that deadline?
Q: How long will I wait or what's the waiting list to get a DMV appointment to apply for a Real ID?
Q: What is the average processing time for a Real ID?
A: You will receive that card in the mail in seven to 10 days from the date that you visit the DMV to apply for your REAL ID.
Martin Wolf made a very strong case for why China is in a stronger position
and while I agree with almost everything he wrote
And that particular claim is so important to his overall argument that
then much (though not all) of China’s supposed edge in the conflict would vanish
while for the US it is mainly a supply shock
It is easier to replace lost demand than missing supply
China does not depend much on imports from the U.S.—and much of what it does import from the U.S
and microchips) can be secured from others at comparable prices—whereas Americans are remarkably reliant on Chinese production for everything from batteries to children’s books to garlic
Stopping trade between the two societies will squeeze the income of China’s exporters (demand shock) and the volume of goods available to America’s consumers (supply shock)
The problem is that the second sentence, while almost always true, does not seem to be relevant to China now. Even though replacing any drop in foreign demand should be straightforward, there are good reasons to think that China’s policymakers may find themselves unable or unwilling to do what is necessary
Keynes’s experiences helping the UK manage the material and financial challenges of WWI and WWII gave him a keen understanding of the importance of respecting material constraints
As I noted 18 months ago
while many people love to quote Keynes’s line that “anything we can actually do we can afford”
it is worth remembering that it was part of a longer presentation on British postwar reconstruction in which he warned about the dangers of what would happen if policymakers failed to “prevent a demand in excess of the physical possibilities of supply”
Keynes’s single most important piece of advice
was for Britons to make “any reasonable sacrifice in the interests of exports” to generate hard currency needed for essential imports
From this perspective, China has arguably been the society most committed to Keynesianism over the past few decades. Aggregate growth has been sustained despite large changes in both external and domestic conditions thanks to a high tolerance for debt
