In the temporarily occupied Henichesk in the Kherson region
there has been an increase in the transfer of reserve forces of the Russian army
The enemy's officer corps is concerned that this may be linked to plans to launch an offensive on the right bank of the region
according to the Telegram channel of the partisan movement Atesh
who is connected to the Russian officer corps of the Russian forces Dnieper
revealed information about the buildup of forces in the Henichesk district
It is noted that among the Russian servicemen deployed to the area are many soldiers who joined the Russian army during the covert mobilization from the occupied Crimea
suggesting that this is being done in preparation for an offensive on the right bank of the Kherson region," representatives of the partisan movement reported
The Atesh also pointed out that it remains unclear whether the Russian military leadership intends to deploy these new reserves into combat in the Kherson region
Partisans note that such actions by the enemy could also be an attempt to misinform the Ukrainian Defense Forces
After the liberation of Kherson during the counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the fall of 2022
when the Russian army was pushed back from the right bank of the Kherson region
it retreated to the eastern bank of the Dnipro River
there have been occasional reports in the information space about the enemy's alleged intentions to resume an offensive on the right bank of the Kherson region
such claims have been linked to enemy psychological operations
Recently, the Defense Forces reported that Russian forces are attacking along the entire front line in southern Ukraine
but no significant concentration of enemy forces for a large-scale offensive has been recorded
the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine
stated that the Armed Forces control most of the islands in the Kherson area
He also noted that the Russian army attempts daily to land troops and establish a foothold on the right bank of the Dnipro
According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on Facebook
"On this difficult day for our country
when the Ukrainian people are repelling the Russian occupiers in all directions
one of the most difficult places on the map of Ukraine was the Isthmus of Perekop
where a separate marines battalion was one of the first to meet the enemy," the statement said
the decision was made to blow up the Henichesk road bridge
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that Vitaliy Skakun
Vitaliy got in touch and said that he was blowing up the bridge
His heroic deed significantly slowed the enemy's advance
which allowed the unit to redeploy and organize the defense," the statement said
Russian troops seized the Kakhovka HPP and bridges across the North Crimean Canal
and all government agencies in the Henichesk district came under the control of the invaders

The Defense Forces of Ukraine damaged the logistics routes of the Russians to Crimea from the territory of the occupied Kherson Oblast
as well as the crossing over the Tonka Strait
“At around 15:00, Ukraine’s defense forces struck the Chonhar and Henichesk automobile bridges, two key communication routes used by the occupiers. Glory to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the Strategic Communications Department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Sunday
The Russians claim that the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched 12 long-range missiles
most of which were allegedly shot down by the occupiers’ air defenses
several potholes are known to have formed on the Chonhar Bridge
and there is also damage on the Henichesk Bridge
Against the background of Russian statements about “minor damage” to bridges
Ukrainian users of social media created dozens of memes – in particular
that “mice ate the Chonhar Bridge”
the Armed Forces of Ukraine already attacked the Chonhar highway bridge
This crossing is one of the main ones for the Russian occupying forces in the captured parts of the Zaporizhia and Donetsk oblasts
the railway bridge across Chonhar was damaged at the end of July
The transport artery is used to supply ammunition and fuel from occupied Crimea to Russian troops in southeastern Ukraine

Ukraine is carrying out “stabilisation measures” near the city of Kherson after it was retaken by Ukrainian forces
people across the country had awoken on Saturday from a night of jubilant celebrations following what has been described as a “historic day” for Kyiv and perhaps the most important strategic breakthrough since the beginning of the Russian invasion
Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy

He added that Russian forces have destroyed all Kherson’s critical infrastructure before they fled including communications

Zelenskiy cautioned that while special military units had reached Kherson city
a full deployment to reinforce the advance troops was still under way – a reminder that about 70% of the Kherson region remains under Russian control
Zelenskiy declared the city to be “ours” and that it was a “historic” day for the country, after Russia announced the completion of its withdrawal from the regional capital. In a statement on his Telegram page
he said people in Kherson never gave up hope on Ukraine
adding: “Hope for Ukraine is always justified – and Ukraine always returns its own.”
A Ukrainian defence ministry spokesperson has told the BBC that Ukraine’s forces are almost in full control of Kherson
Russia said more than 30,000 service personnel had been withdrawn to the eastern bank of the Dnipro River
The defence ministry said its evacuation had been completed by 5am Moscow time on Friday
The ministry said there was no military hardware or soldiers left on the western side of the river
However, reports have emerged of some Russian troops being left behind in Ukraine and changing into civilian clothes, or drowning trying to escape. The Ukrainian ministry of defence’s intelligence unit has urged Russian soldiers to surrender
The Antonivskiy Bridge, the only nearby road crossing from the city of Kherson to the Russian-controlled eastern bank of the Dnipro River, has been blown up
There was significant new damage to the nearby major Nova Kakhovka dam after the withdrawal
and footage emerged of explosions at the location

Updated at 20.37 CET12 Nov 202220.06 CETZelenskiy added that Ukraine was able to conduct successful operations in Kherson and elsewhere in part because of resistance in the Donetsk region in the face of repeated Russian attacks.
“There it is just hell – there are extremely fierce battles there every day,” he said.
“But our units are defending bravely – they are withstanding the terrible pressure of the invaders, preserving our defence lines.”
“Before fleeing from Kherson, the occupiers destroyed all the critical infrastructure: communications, water, heat, electricity,” he said.
“(Russians) everywhere have the same goal: to humiliate people as much as possible. But we will restore everything, believe me,” Zelenskiy added.

Kirill Stremousov, the deputy head of the Moscow-installed administration in the occupied Kherson region of Ukraine, was buried in the Crimean city of Sevastopol on Friday, state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported
Stremousov, 45, died in an apparent car accident near the town of Henichesk on Wednesday, according to local officials.
The funeral ceremony was attended by the Kremlin's first deputy chief of staff
Sergei Kiriyenko; the Russian-appointed governors of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions
Vladimir Saldo and Yevgeny Balitsky; and the head of Russian-annexed Crimea
Stremousov is the most senior Russian-appointed official in occupied Ukraine to die since the start of the invasion
Known for being an anti-vaxxer before the war
he enthusiastically welcomed the arrival of Russian forces in Kherson in March
"His main task was to serve the people, serve his country, his city. He walked the path of service honestly to the very end," Kirienko said at the funeral ceremony
Known for his extreme anti-Ukrainian rhetoric, Stremousov was one of a group of officials that the Kremlin had instructed state-run media outlets to quote less frequently just days before his death, independent media outlet Meduza reported.
Last month Stremousov openly criticized Russia’s Defense Ministry and its actions in Kherson in a Telegram post
condemning the country's "mediocre military leaders."
As the deputy head of the pro-Russian Kherson administration
Stremousov was involved in the holding of a referendum on whether the region should join the Russian Federation in September
in which joining Russia was backed by some 87% of those who voted
was widely-criticized as a "sham" by the international community

Colonisation appears to have superseded ‘denazification’ in Putin’s military goals for eastern Ukraine
Last week a familiar figure returned to the main square of the seaside town of Henichesk
and sporting his familiar goatee and moustache
A statue of the Bolshevik leader had been erected outside the town’s main council building
Flying from the roof were the Russian and Soviet flags
All in time for Lenin’s 152nd birthday on Friday
Henichesk, however, is not in Russia. It is – or was, until Vladimir Putin’s invasion – a sleepy settlement in southern Ukraine
The town of 20,000 people has a house of culture
a long strip of beach and a Vegas-themed hotel
It also has new imperial masters: Russians
They arrived from Crimea on 24 February in armoured vehicles
rolling past a shimmering landscape of lagoons and dunes
One woman was unimpressed “What the fuck are you doing here?” she asked an enemy soldier
You came to my land uninvited.” She then tried to hand him a packet of seeds
“These are so sunflowers will grow when you all lie down here
Henichesk may soon become part of a so-called “People’s Republic of Kherson”
Moscow is planning to hold a sham independence referendum in the southern oblast
Grateful local voters will express their desire to “break away” from Ukraine
when it instigated and armed a pro-Russia separatist rebellion in the eastern Donbas region
It staged pseudo-votes in the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk
The Russian army is now seeking to grab further Ukrainian territory and to expand the “republics”
Putin’s fuzzy war aims evolved last week after his unsuccessful attempt to seize Ukraine’s capital
There is now little talk of his original objective: to “de-Nazify” and to “de-militarise” Ukraine and its leadership
Russian generals speak openly about conquest
The invasion has become a grandiose colonial project to reshape Europe’s map and to steal Ukraine’s coast

In Melitopol teachers are being forced to use Russian and to teach the Kremlin’s school curriculum
The authorities have said some may need to be “retrained” in Crimea
Russian “military police” units have destroyed Ukrainian literature and textbooks
The historian Anne Applebaum said the Russian government’s methods in Ukraine were darkly familiar
Today’s Moscow is replicating what Soviet forces did in occupied Poland
the Baltic states and the rest of central Europe in 1939
as well as at the end of the second world war
It was an “eerily precise repeat of the NKVD [Soviet secret police] and Red Army’s behaviour,” she said
She added: “They have lists of people to arrest – mayors
They systematically rape and murder civilians
They deport other people en masse to Russia
Applebaum said there was “one new twist” in Russia’s takeover of southern and eastern Ukraine
now the scene of a brutal battle for the Donbas
“Because modern Russia stands for nothing except corruption
they have brought back Soviet flags as well as Lenin statues to symbolise Russian victory,” she said

Communist slogans were banned under “decommunisation” laws passed by Ukraine’s parliament
Henichesk and other occupied areas are now seeing forced “recommunisation”
a first deputy chairman in Kherson’s regional council
said the Russian “orcs” were putting up communist-era memorials and “moving to the past”
This was taking place against the backdrop of a worsening humanitarian crisis
the strict suppression of dissent and a clampdown on anyone who expressed a pro-Ukrainian political stance
He added: “Their motive is absolutely transparent
They try to parasite on the nostalgic sentiments of the population
The problem is that these almost don’t exist in the [Kherson] area
Our people live in the present and have a very real and successful future
the ‘USSR show’ will go on until Ukraine’s armed forces liberate our territory.”
Marina – a woman living in the occupied southern port of Berdyansk – said the city’s new overlords were planning to stage a Red Square-style victory parade on 9 May
I was a pioneer and in the Komsomol [communist youth organisation]

Soldiers demanded documents at checkpoints
Russian armoured vehicles marked with a Z drove past regularly
but Berdyansk was practically out of medicine
Humanitarian deliveries from Ukrainian-controlled areas had ceased
Most southern residents opposed Russia’s takeover
the Kremlin has found some locals willing to collaborate
The new “mayor” of Mariupol is a veteran politician from the pro-Russian Opposition Bloc party
said his counterpart had advised the Russians which infrastructure targets to shell
He had left his apartment block at 8.15am and climbed into his grey Mazda
It’s unclear who raked the front of his car with automatic gunfire
said it was impossible to stop patriotic citizens from taking out “traitors”
residents can attempt to travel from Russian zones into Ukrainian-controlled territory
Yulia – a woman from Berdyansk – said soldiers took her uncle from his car and threatened to shoot him in the knee
The doctor husband of a friend of hers was taken away at a checkpoint
Yulia said the popular “mood was against Russia”
This was especially true among younger people
that Russian TV was beginning to have an effect on pensioners who grew up in the Soviet Union
“My husband’s grandfather told us the Russians weren’t bombing Kharkiv
It was difficult to convince him this was a lie,” she said

Back in Henichesk, the Lenin statue looks set to stay. His unlikely comeback speaks to the ideological vacancy at the heart of Putin’s imperial project on the borderlands of Europe
