I’m not sure where I start with that one! We knew before the game that sealing a place in the end-of-season play-offs was in our own hands but as things transpired, Bristol City were reliant on other results going our way which thankfully they did
a real fight and determination to get something out of the game
Whilst the point did not actually make a difference to our final league position
it showed what this Liam Manning team and squad of players is all about
Recognising the importance of the game, head coach Manning opted to make three changes to his starting line-up. Joe Williams, Scott Twine and Yu Hirakawa came in at the expense of Marcus McGuane
It was a more attacking team with the hope that Twine and Williams
could get through a portion of the game and have enough of a positive impact before changes would need to be made
This was a huge game and I will admit to being nervous ahead of it
I think I only had a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep on Friday evening
The anticipation of what could be and thinking about all of the permutations
I’m sure that I was not the only City fan who had a restless Friday night
I had stupidly watched highlights of Preston's game against Plymouth Argyle from last weekend and while they tasted defeat
Heckingbottom’s side created numerous good opportunities that they failed to convert
tending to get the ball forward into their frontmen as early as possible and I assumed that they would do the same to us
neither pushing the North End striker out of his space nor ensuring that one of his defenders came back to afford him protection
showing greater strength to beat him in the air
He then had the simple task of heading into a somewhat unguarded net and past the pinned O’Leary
It was just what we didn’t need and home fans could be seen eagerly looking to their phones to check current scores in the games in and around us
We’d seen an early Millwall goal snuffed out thanks to former City player Josh Brownhill and as it stood
As the game headed for half-time, news came through of a Coventry City goal and we therefore dropped to 6th place
It was very much the pattern for the rest of the game
We had huffed and puffed in the first half without really creating anything and when the referee blew his whistle
there was a small smattering of boos from a tiny segment of home fans
this did give the side a better balance with Zak Vyner moving to a more familiar and obviously more comfortable right-sided position with Roberts stepping in as a left centre-back
which is clearly his best position in my view
Bristol City are fighting to secure their place in the play-off places and you won't miss a beat with our free newsletter
It's completely free and you can sign up HERE
We found ourselves two down in the most important game of the season
coming in at the back post to head into the net
The noise levels amplified and a couple of minutes later we were so nearly level
Jason Knight seeing a rasping drive crash against the crossbar and out
The bar was shaking and the stadium even more so
We kept pouring forward and it wasn’t long before that man McCrorie was at it again
had spotted a brilliant incisive left-to-right
He then played an inch-perfect pass for the Scot to run onto and fire into the net with a clipped right-footed finish
The pass was only as good as the run and the run was only as good as the pass
the moment became too much for me and I found myself in tears
struggling with the emotion and the enormity of the situation
McCrorie raced back to his starting position
gesturing to the home fans to keep up the intensity and noise levels
It was no more than we deserved and we kept driving forward
we didn’t really create any further clear-cut chances
I appreciate that fans of other clubs elsewhere may pour scorn on us celebrating just a place in the play-offs
but they don’t understand what Manning and the club have been through
It was an outpouring of emotion and relief
You finish where you deserve to finish and for us
that was sixth place to set up a two-legged play-off semi-final against Sheffield United
but this has been one hell of a season already and huge credit must go to Manning and his players
The games against the Blades will be tough
but you have to be in the play-offs to win them
We are in there and have a great opportunity
Let’s hope we can replicate the 1988 play-off success against United when a 1-0 home win
following an Alan Walsh goal was followed by a 1-1 away draw
with a Carl Shutt goal seeing us get through
It would be lovely if a couple of our key players were able to return from injury
Saturday and the way we came back from 0-2 down
made me exceptionally proud of this group of players
We need to get Ashton Gate bouncing on Thursday night and I would appeal to everyone who is able to buy a ticket to do so
Come along and create an atmosphere that Sheffield United cannot cope with

Our 3 Peaps In A Podcast player ratings were: Max O’Leary 6.0
For the substitutes who must play a minimum of 20 minutes (including injury time)
That is an overall end-of-the-regular-season average player rating of 6.17
the head coach talked after the game about going through every emotion but he said that it was worth everything to hear the cheer that rang out when our place in the play-offs was confirmed
Manning went on to say how the fans have been brilliant and that the lap of honour was so emotional for him in view of the difficult year he has been through personally
He said that he was close to tears on three or four occasions
We gave the game a rating of 7.0 but the memories that we were left with at the end
with the pitch invasion and Yu Hirakawa crowd surfing

111 CommentsA last-gasp victory against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday
That was when Bristol City fans believed their team could finally finish in the Championship play-offs for the first time in 17 years
The players had long left the field and almost all of Ashton Gate had emptied - but the corner of the stadium known as Section 82 was still in full voice as dance anthem 'Freed From Desire' was played loudly through the stadium speakers
Haydon Roberts' 96th-minute strike had given City a 2-1 win against one of their then closest rivals
moving them four points clear in the top six and putting destiny in their own hands for the remaining matches of the campaign
Another five points from their final five games was enough to secure sixth place
It means that for the first time since 2007-08 under Gary Johnson
Bristol City now have the chance to win a first promotion to the Premier League
"That was the biggest game of some of the lads' careers, they wouldn't have played in such a pressurised game," boss Liam Manning said after Saturday's 2-2 draw against Preston North End.
"There's so much around philosophies and identities of dominating the ball and doing this
but our identity and our culture and what makes us so strong is our attitude
the belief we have - the behaviours are so strong
"That's what got it over the line
The lads have over and over again showed how much they want it in terms of their actions
Bristol City are one of only five teams in the 2024-25 Championship to have never played in the Premier League
With the Robins having earned promotion to the second tier a decade ago
only Preston - who were also promoted in 2015 - have spent as long an unbroken stint in the Championship without promotion
The past decade has seen Bristol City consistently become a mid-table side - eighth place in 2019 was the closest they had come to the play-offs when they finished four points behind Derby
Liam Manning was appointed in November 2023 and has been slowly building his team
Manning's appointment as head coach in November 2023 was not universally welcomed by fans
following the controversial sacking of Nigel Pearson
Manning is a young coach who has worked his way up the ranks from West Ham's academy
managing League Two MK Dons and was at then League One Oxford
but he was unproven at Championship level and cut from a different cloth than Pearson
"Let's turn the clock back: Nigel Pearson was a popular figure and Liam probably wasn't everybody's choice when he got the job," said former Bristol City midfielder and BBC Radio Bristol analyst Gary Owers
"To get into this position where the crowd really have jumped on board and been very
he's had to earn that and the only reason he's done that is by winning football matches and improving the position
he's put the hard yards in to earn his position and clearly he's worked his way through the divisions
"There was definitely a period early in his Bristol City career where he was adjusting to the level
but I think he's got that all worked out."
There was no bigger showing of how much supporters had taken the head coach as one of their own than following the death of Manning's baby son, Theo, in October, when the fanbase unified behind him
Manning later said he initially considered quitting, external his role in the wake of his son's death before deciding he had to get back to work
"I think that galvanised the whole club," Owers added
"We've seen the outpouring of emotion and support that he got from the supporters
and the team took that on to the pitch as well."
strong home form has been the foundation of City's surge up the table
They sit fourth overall for home form this campaign
Burnley and Sheffield United bettering them
Since Boxing Day they have lost only once at home in 13 league matches
"Making Ashton Gate more of a stronghold has probably been the main reason why they've improved from a mid-table team to potentially a play-off team," Owers said
is the smallest in the Championship with just 24 players used - Burnley have fielded 38
with an average age of 25 - only two players are 30 or over
Manning has been moulding the team into his own over the past 18 months
Luke McNally and on-loan George Earthy to become first-team regulars
But the budget is limited and stringent - no players were brought in during January much to the chagrin of fans.
Bristol City have the fourth-best home form of any team in the Championship in 2024-25
The club do not have a marquee striker or stand-out player
such as midfielder Alex Scott who was sold to Bournemouth in 2023 for a reported £25m
Anis Mehmeti (12) and Nahki Wells (10) - the latter who at 34 is the oldest player in the team - are in double figures for goals this season
but beyond them the goals are shared across another 15 players
Yet Wells stressed the tight-knit bond and consistency across the squad is what has proved the difference to help push them over the line
We're not solely relying on one individual to get the goals or make a huge difference," Wells has said
"Every week there's consistent performance
but in the big moments everyone's stepping up and that's what a team really is
and that's what we are as a team."
Owers similarly stressed that consistency across the board has been hugely significant
"You're probably right they're not going to sell anyone for £10m or 15m at the end of the season," Owers said
"I'd be keen to not underestimate what they represent as a team even though they haven't got that individual that every team would like to have."
Manning was reluctant to dwell too much on the play-offs until the team were over the line
his answer to what it would mean to take that step with Bristol City showcased the team spirit that two days later helped get them there
the decision I nearly made post what happened and it was the lads and the club that made me come back," Manning said
"It's been the toughest year of my personal life
But at the same point I think probably one of the most rewarding professionally
we're desperate to get it over the line and want to make it happen but worst case scenario it doesn't
it doesn't change what I feel of the players
"I think they're a terrific group of human beings firstly
Ending a 17-year wait to reach the play-offs is the first hurdle Manning and Bristol City have passed
The bigger test now comes with potentially three more matches ahead and a historic promotion to the Premier League on the line

Darrell Clarke and Michael Duff are the early bookies' favourites for the Bristol Rovers job(Image: Getty Images)Bristol Rovers legend Darrell Clarke has emerged as the early bookies favourite to take over at the Memorial Stadium after the club parted ways with Inigo Calderon over the weekend
Rovers will be looking for their fourth permanent manager in 18 months ahead of their return to League Two following relegation
Clarke's name has been put forward by numerous Gasheads as their personal preference to get the job with the ex-Gas manager currently out of work having left Barnsley in March and is currently priced at 4/9 to make a return to north Bristol
It has been nearly six-and-a-half years since Clarke left Rovers having spent four-and-a-half years in charge in BS7
The 47-year-old guided the Pirates to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One and led to the Gas' highest finish for the last 25 years - 10th in the third tier in the 2016/17 campaign
The 47-year-old added a third promotion to his managerial CV when winning the League Two play-offs with Vale in 2022
As always when it comes to managerial searches
bookmaker odds have to be taken with a pinch of salt
It is currently unclear whether Clarke is even in the running for the job
Barnsley and Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff is second-favourite at 15/8
It is understood that Duff still resides in Cheltenham having lost his job at Huddersfield in March
coincidentally after losing 1-0 against Rovers at the Mem
The 47-year-old has managed at Championship level
spending less than six months at Swansea in the first half of the 2023/24 season
but is best known for taking Barnsley to the League One play-off final the campaign before while also leading Cheltenham to League Two promotion in 2021
Ex-Northampton Town and Bolton Wanderers bosses Jon Brady and Ian Evatt are also in the mix at 8/1 before the odds started to get longer with a handful of other names linked
Des Buckingham and Steve Evans are priced at 16/1 while there are even longer odds for Leam Richardson
who hasn't been in the dugout since leaving the Mem in October 2023

Bristol Rovers have sacked Inigo Calderon less than 24 hours after the end of the season
Rovers were relegated from League One following a dreadful run that saw them take just one point in their final 10 games
Former Brighton star Calderon was appointed in December on a two-and-a-half year deal
the club said: "Bristol Rovers can confirm that Inigo Calderon has departed his position as Men’s first team Head Coach
who has been assisting in the coaching department since March
"Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank Inigo and Miguel for their hard work
dedication and commitment and wish them both every success in their respective future careers
Calderon also posted a statement on social media and said: "This is my time as Bristol Rovers manager. It has been a true honour and pleasure to have been part of this great club, obviously without the results I would have liked and that this club deserves, but still the pride and clear conscience of having tried everything possible to achieve the best.
"Boxing Day at Exeter, the first home game on New Year's Day, my family celebrating from the stands, the first win at Cambridge, the unconditional support in away games, and especially the games played at the Mem are unforgettable moments that I will always remember.
"I've always said that a club is made great by the fans and the people who work behind the scenes, and this club is giant.
I can only reiterate my gratitude to the entire Gasheads family
His final game in charge was a 4-1 defeat to Blackpool on Saturday
a ninth loss in their last 10 to end the season
Their relegation had already been confirmed on Tuesday with Burton's draw with Wigan
It was Calderon's first job as a first-team manager
having previously led Brighton's under-18s
The 43-year-old replaced Matt Taylor in December with the club 19th
Rovers will be joined in League Two next season by Shrewsbury
Birmingham went up to the Championship with a record 111 points
and Leyton Orient will fight it out in the play-offs
A screenshot from BBC footage showing a man confront a woman on Clifton Down in Bristol(Image: BBC)A heated exchange erupted between a man living in a converted horse box and a local Bristol woman was caught on camera
Residents of Clifton Downs are urging the van dwellers to vacate
citing instances of a minority disposing of toilet waste in drains
The man fired back at the woman's assertion that he shouldn't be living on the city's open parkland
The woman responded with a single word - 'attitude' - prompting the man to say: "No
It's called standing up for rights."
Tensions ran high during a BBC report from Clifton Down
where numerous individuals have made their homes in vans
and motorhomes along roads bordering the green space
Those living in vans offer a range of reasons for their lifestyle choice
Some view it as a deliberate decision, while others point to Bristol's exorbitant rents, housing costs
and living expenses as leaving them without alternative options
certain individuals face specific vulnerabilities
A Facebook group, Protect the Downs, has been established by locals, with former RAF serviceman Tony Nelson at the helm, reports the Express
Mr Nelson said that the few responsible van dwellers have never posed an issue but he claims this is not representative of the entire group
A view of vans and caravans by the side of a road in Clifton Down(Image: Paul Gillis / Reach PLC)Nelson said: "This used to be famous across the country
"I was aware of the Bristol Downs even when I lived in East Anglia
slammed some of the posts in a Facebook group as 'absolutely ludicrous'
he revealed that over time he's contributed £35,000 in business rates through arts and events companies he has administered
Bristol is home to approximately 680 vehicles being used as dwellings
and council-run sites—these spots provide crucial amenities like water
The city council says it is actively working on devising strategies to both aid van dwellers and attend to the concerns of the local populace
Earlier in the year, the Sneyd Park Residents Association put together a meeting, drawing a crowd to St Alban's Church in Redland—confirming the high level of community interest.
This gathering came in the wake of a probing report on Bristol’s increasing population of vehicle residents, indicating the figures have quadrupled from roughly 150 in 2019 since before the pandemic hit.
On a visit to the Downs by the Express, locals voiced their thoughts, suggesting the city needs more affordable housing and social stock.
Whereas a different camp demanded firmer measures to "get rid" of the van dwellers.
Defiantly, Danny said: "They will never get rid of us. They can do whatever they like, but people have lived on that road for years and years."
Councillor Barry Parsons, chair of the council's Homes and Housing Delivery Committee, said to the Express in March: "We know that we need to reduce the need for so many people to live in vehicles, and remain committed to increasing the number of well-built, affordable homes in Bristol so people have a safe and secure place they can call home."
The Woods at the top of Park Street is closed, with windows boarded up on Wednesday, April 30(Image: Paul Gillis/Reach Plc)Bristol is new stranger to comings and goings on the food and drink scene
And so we at BristolLive have decided to shine a regular spotlight - and wave a final farewell - to the foodie spots
and others that have closed their doors for the last time over the past month
This month has seen much heartbreak from locals who have lost some of their favourite haunts for a bite to eat
In amongst the list for April is a seafront cafe, a beloved Bristol bar
a pizzeria and some of Bristolians' favourite restaurants
Which of this are you going to miss most - and which would you campaign to bring back immediately
The Bay at Weston-super-Mare is closing soon to make way for the new Tropicana.(Image: Phoebe Hobbs)Article continues belowAddress: Marine Parade
BristolLive reported that The Bay Cafe in Weston-super-Mare had written a farewell letter
which it displayed in its window on April 15
The Bay, which was located on Weston-super-Mare's famous seafront
announced it would be closing to make way for the newly-renovated Tropicana events venue
Work on The Tropicana, which has received £8.7 million from the government's levelling up fund, is set to finish by March 2026
It is hoped that the 5,000 seater venue will put the town back on the map
In early 2022, The Food Hub (Passion and Soul Food) was selected by North Somerset Council to operate The Bay Café as a concession
in preparation for the exciting SEEMonster installation at the Tropicana
It had originally been planned as a six month venture, but was extended to three years in the end. Read the full story here
Dough Heads(Image: Google Maps)Address: 86 Whitehall Road
On April 19, BristolLive reported how devastated locals were of the announcement that Dough Heads on Whitehall Road would be closing
According to the official Dough Heads website
the independent pizzeria - which serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas using its own four-day ferment dough - will be closing in June
with its last trading day falling on Friday
the team said: "Espensen Spirit our landlords and friends
are selling 86 Whitehall Road this year to move into a new space and we have made the difficult decision not to move on to a new premises of our own
"For the past five years, we've had an amazing time serving up pizza and cocktails to the brilliant people of Easton
But as is the case with many small businesses at the moment
rising costs and an uncertain financial future for the hospitality industry have applied many pressures over the years."We're proud to have survived the lockdowns and the difficult years afterwards and we truly have our customers and incredible staff to thank for this."

will be starting a new chapter as it moves out of number 30 Clare Street
told BristolLive that they weren't able to "meet the landlords demands for a rent increase of 25 per cent" and so found a buyer for the building
It's not the end for the popular food spot though
as Nathan said fans will still be able to get their hands on some of the delicious dishes on the menu online
before it moves to a new physical location

it has pushed business over the edge of viability
"We'd like to thank you all for your loyal custom over the years
with many great memories created at The Woods."

The Championship playoff positions have been confirmed after Saturday's results, meaning we now know the four teams vying to join Leeds United and Burnley in the Premier League for next season.
On a dramatic final day of the Championship regular season, five teams went into action battling to secure the two final playoff spots, fifth and sixth positions, with Sheffield United and Sunderland's third and fourth-place finishes in the table confirmed.
Bristol City's 2-2 draw against Preston North End and Coventry City's 2-0 victory over fellow playoff hopefuls Middlesbrough mean that Coventry, managed by Premier League Hall of Famer Frank Lampard, finish in fifth with 69 points, while Bristol City, who have never played in the Premier League, secure the sixth and final playoff spot place with 68 points.
The playoffs involve the four teams that finish directly below the automatic promotion places, with the clubs who finish third to sixth in the Championship after 46 matches competing for that coveted final Premier League spot.
The two-legged playoff semi-finals pit the third-placed team against the side who finished sixth, while the clubs in fourth and fifth will also meet. The teams that finish third and fourth will have home advantage in the second leg.
The winners of those semi-finals will face each other in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 24 May to determine who will join the top two in being promoted to the Premier League.

Paul MacInnes was at the CBS Arena, where Coventry won a thrilling match to secure a playoff place.
It’s tough to put into words. I feel sorry for the fans and also for the lads with the effort they’ve put in recently. We gave ourselves too much of a mountain to climb. To go out like that is really frustrating. We’ll receive a backlash for today’s result and rightfully so to an extent, but the lads have put blood, sweat and tears into the last few weeks.
[On Luton fans chanting ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ at the players] You’ve got to face the music. Ultimately we’ve put ourselves in this situation and we need to take accountability.
I loved it, I loved it. It’s so tense for everyone involved. The performance was brilliant in the first half and we fully deserved to lead. The second half was tense but I always felt we were a threat. The players deserve so much credit for getting over the line after where we’ve come from. We got what we deserved.
[On the goalscorer Jack Rudoni] I speak a lot with Rudi because he’s a great kid: he wants to get better, he wants to do more. He’s got quality, and he’s definitely got more talent than me in the air!
We have to expect respect the best version of Sunderland: for most of the season they were really strong. We need to rest up, reboot and go again.
It’s great for the club. It’s been a long week!

Bristol City 2-2 Preston (McCrorie 74)Ross McCrorie – who the last time I checked was a left-back
not Romario II – has scored his second goal to bring Bristol City level
and finished smartly on the run with his right foot
in that a Blackburn goal would move them above City
but it increases City’s chances of winning the game
The games in bold are the ones that are likely to decide who goes down and who makes the playoffs.
2d ago15.04 CEST72 min: Bristol City 1-2 Preston A Bristol City player – I don’t know, okay* – has just smashed a heatseeker off the crossbar.
2d ago15.02 CEST“Just to check, would Luton still get parachute payments in League One? It’d be bleak to see them distort two divisions at once.”
I think so, but don’t quote me at the dinner party. I’m pretty sure Sunderland received parachute payment after back-to-back relegations in 2017 and 2018.
2d ago15.01 CESTGOAL! Bristol City 1-2 Preston (McCrorie 69)The left-back Ross McCrorie heads Bristol City back into the game at Ashton Gate. All bets are off in that one now – especially as Preston’s players must know they will be safe even if they lose this game.

When the weather reaches temperatures in the mid to high twenties
sometimes all you crave is a refreshing drink and a bowl of something equally refreshing - but also filling and nutritious
During my working lunch on this particularly hot and sunny weekday, I found myself in the vicinity of Fed in Cotham/Redland - and I've always heard nothing but incredible things about it
So I ventured in and took a look at the menu
Immediately, when visiting this cafe (which is literally described on Google as being 'hip' and 'whipping up generous salad bowls
plus sweet treats and smoothies') your eye immediately takes you to the artistically displayed selection of sandwiches
The interior is a mix of deep blues and light woods
with a selection of plants decorating the space
and incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the food and drink here
The menu is displayed on chalkboard-esque walls
and the ever-changing salad bowl selection was also on display
The Fed salad bowl - or 'Fed Bowl' as it's known
and so I ordered this and a wonderfully refreshing-sounding minty lemonade
which contained a hefty helping of each three different salad types of the day (as well as a hearty dollop of hummus) was priced at £10.25 - certainly not cheap for a salad
And staff were straight to serving us up a large glass bottle of water infused with cucumber - again
The Fed bowl was quickly dished up and brought over
looking incredibly colourful and fresh - and the portion size was definitely hearty
sprinkled with some seeds for a wonderful crunch
Each of the three salads offered a different burst of flavour with each bite - greenery with a citrus tang
tomatoes and chunks of squash with pomegranate
and a creamier dressing enveloping snap peas
The hummus complemented every bite perfectly - each bite of the Fed Bowl not only brought an explosion of flavour that was refreshing yet powerful
Pops from the pomegranate and crunch of the seeds - it all made for an incredible lunch dish
the cucumber-infused water was the most perfect palate cleanser
and the minty lemonade is one of my new favourite things
for under £15 Fed is really treating us to hearty
fresh food - turning salads into exquisitely colourful bowls of goodness
And the atmosphere inside and out (there were al fresco tables you could dine at too) was just lovely
For my next visit I'm aiming to sample some of those delicious sweet treats - cinnamon buns
and homemade cakes were all tempting me this time around and I can't get over how good it all looked
Fed now boasts three locations in Bristol - the one I visited in Cotham
another on Gloucester Road and a third in Fishponds - and I recommend paying one a visit this summer

The unfinished Boatyard development next to the River Avon on Bath Road in Totterdown(Image: Bristol Live/Paul Gillis)Developers behind Bristol’s tallest unfinished building hope to finally complete the work under new plans
Each week Bristol City Council receives dozens of planning applications seeking permission for a whole range of developments
Over the past seven days, those applications also included acoustic upgrades to a Grade I-listed University of Bristol building and trees to be felled to make room for a sensory garden
Here’s this week’s round-up of notable planning applications submitted to the council
Sign up to receive daily news updates and breaking news alerts straight to your inbox for free here
Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications — whether in support or objection
The majority of applications are decided by planning officers at the council under delegated powers
some will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees
No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined
They can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Bristol City Council’s website
The developers of the huge Boatyard tower block in Totterdown are seeking permission to change a raft of planning conditions so they can finally complete the work
Work stopped on the 15-storey building on the A4 Bath Road nearly three years ago after contractor the Mid Group went into administration
along with many technical issues during construction over the design that was granted consent by councillors in 2019
Housing association Clarion is now asking if it can amend or delete a total of 43 conditions attached to the scheme for 152 affordable flats next to the River Avon at Totterdown Bridge so the project can be finished
The complex also includes buildings of seven
while the main block will have an additional two basement floors for parking
Clarion’s agents said the changes were only minor and were needed to address “delivery challenges” and meet building regulations
They said that these included removing the “green roof” from the tallest block
small adjustments to heights and distance from site boundaries
The agents said: “The changes to the package of plans and drawings have been subject to consultation with Bristol City Council planning officers
the works will ensure the successful completion of a committed scheme and the delivery of much-needed affordable homes.”
Acoustic panels at university historic building
A University of Bristol staffroom at an historic
Grade I-listed building would be brought back into more regular use
The library meeting room at Royal Fort House at the heart of the city’s campus hosts face-to-face and hybrid meetings but it has poor acoustics and is no longer fit for purpose
The university has applied for listed building consent to install a hanging rail system for a series of acoustic panels along three of the walls so the room can be used more often
architects said the site was originally part of a three-mile semicircular line of fortifications during the English Civil War but was seized from the Cavaliers by Oliver Cromwell who ordered its destruction in 1655
Wealthy Bristol merchant and banker Thomas Tyndall redeveloped the site in Royal Fort Road just over a century later
and the university acquired it in 1917 from the last surviving member of his family
The architects said the main house is of “exceptional historic and national significance” but that the service wing
which was not part of the original building
having been heavily adapted and modified over the years
They said: “The poor acoustics and excessive reverberation of sound mean that hybrid meetings do not work well and the meeting room is used less often now
“We believe the proposals are discreet and are an appropriate minimalist intervention
“Furthermore we believe the proposals will allow the room to retain a continued viable use for the university
“We therefore believe this will have a positive impact on the heritage asset of Royal Fort House.”
Five trees would be chopped down and replaced with a sensory garden for a disabled resident in Stapleton
Planning documents said four conifers and a golden cypress at the property in Oaklands Park
They said: “These tree works are being requested as part of full refurbishment works for home and garden of occupant who has recent severe mobility issues and wheelchair
The trees are not subject to a preservation order but are in a conservation area

05 May 2025A roadworks blunder saw several vehicles driving down a closed road before turning round and going the wrong way down a one-way street to escape
The mix-up, on Castle Street in the centre of Bristol
caused a 'bit of brief chaos' yesterday afternoon (Sunday
The roadworks sign pointing in the direction of a diversion was pointing the wrong way
Drivers had mistakenly gone down Castle Street
But the road was closed as a crane was doing a heavy lift to a nearby building site
Cars had entered a closed road due to a roadworks blunder.(Image: Paul Gillis / Reach PLC)Article continues belowAt 3.30pm
a worker fixed the diversion sign and had to help the vehicles drive away from Castle Street
The vehicles had backed up and caused them to become stuck, before turning around and heading back towards the Old Market roundabout.
Driving down the wrong way of the one-way street, the vehicles then had to wait at the roundabout, at what would have been the entrance for those driving into Broadmead.
The worker, who had fixed the sign, had to step on to the roundabout, one of Bristol's busiest, and halt traffic in order to allow four vehicles to leave.
A witness told BristolLive: "It caused a bit of brief chaos as all the cars backed up and had to turn around, then exit via the one way street. Probably the funniest thing I have seen."
It is understood that the roadworks were there for a temporary spell as One.Network lists the road as being clear of any ongoing work.
(Image: (Image: BBC))Only Fools and Horses and Peckham are as synonymous as British fish and chips and the seaside - you can't have one without the other
despite the show being forever associated with the high-rise estates of south-east London
was actually filmed hundreds of miles away – in the heart of Bristol
The legendary sitcom, starring Sir David Jason as Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter and his brother Rodney, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst, has become a national treasure over the years and is still hugely popular despite the series ending almost 23 years ago, as reports the Express
the show was first broadcast in 1981 and while some scenes were filmed in London
much of the production was shot far away from the capital where the show's creator found the perfect backdrop for the Trotters' misadventures
from the late 1980s and particularly the 1990s
the show was made in Bristol until it ended in 2003
Bristol has long been considered one of the UK's most stunning areas of natural beauty
Residents remember the cast filming there(Image: (Image: Google Maps))Article continues belowThe most iconic location - Whitemead House in Bedminster – a real-life tower block that doubled as Nelson Mandela House
the Trotters' fictional home from season six onwards
Fans visiting the area are often amazed to discover that the iconic view from the estate's balconies
frequently featured in the show's opening sequences
is actually set against a Bristol backdrop
The River Avon and the notably absent London landmarks hint at the true filming locations
which keen viewers might have spotted despite the series being set elsewhere
Locals fondly remember the buzz when stars David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst came to film on location during the peak 80s and 90s period of the show
Whitemead House remains a draw for snap-happy tourists
standing as an unsung piece of pop culture heritage
who has lived in the tower block since 1985
recalls David Jason being a 'sweetheart' and the lengths the cast and crew took to ensure the comfort of the residents
Speaking to the Daily Express, she reminisced: "I was quite young back then, but I remember my mum and dad being very excited about the filming.
"My mum had a bit of a crush on Del Boy and would get a bit giggly when he turned up. He was such a sweetheart, always waving and chatting to everyone. They really made a lot of effort with the residents."
Yuppy Love was filmed in Bristol(Image: (Image: Unknown))A stone’s throw from Whitemead House, or Nelson Mandela House as it's known on screen, were the cluttered garages harbouring the Trotter duo’s mix of antiques, risqué inflatables, bottled spring water, and all manner of items. It was here, in these onsite storages, that the fictional brothers discovered the Harrison watch catapulting them to their fortune overnight.
Also in close proximity was the Miles Motor Company, which featured as the car showroom of Del Boy's rival, Boycie. This is also where he purchased his Rolls Royce once he had a few million in the bank.
Bristol's Harbourside and Ashton Gate areas also made cameo appearances throughout the show's run, and the notorious Peckham market was actually filmed in and around Bristol. The show utilised locations like Ashton Gate Stadium, the White Horse pub in Bedminster, and the Broadwalk Shopping Centre as stand-ins for the area.
Del Boy and Rodney were masked heroes(Image: (Image: BBC))Article continues belowPark Avenue in Bristol was the filming location for the popular episode called Heroes and Villains, where Del Boy's Batman and Rodney's Robin scare off some muggers who were trying to rob a woman.
Last but not least is the bar in which Del Boy famously fell through the counter in the hilarious fan favourite episode, Yuppy Love. The Queen Charlotte Street entrance of the basement bar was part of luxe restaurant Belgo, which became Loch Fyne seafood eatery until it closed during the pandemic.
Housed in The Granary, the Grade II-listed red-brick building was built in 1869, and is regarded as one of the finest examples of the Bristol Byzantine style of Victorian architecture.

The excitement that is the Championship play-offs starts next week with Sheffield United facing Bristol City in a two-legged semi-final
It was final day drama for the Robins as whilst they fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point at home to Preston
they had to wait for confirmation of Blackburn’s draw away at Bramall Lane to celebrate securing a play-off spot
Their reward is a showdown with a Blades side aiming to secure an instant return to the Premier League
At one stage it appeared United were on course for automatic promotion
but a run of three consecutive defeats last month saw them ultimately miss out to Leeds and Burnley
They must now dust themselves down from that disappointment
regain their composure to stay on track for a return to English football’s top light - beginning with this two-legged semi-final
Bristol City vs Sheffield United is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off on Thursday
The first leg will take place at Ashton Gate
the game will be televised live on Sky Sports Football
Coverage starts at 7pm BST ahead of an 8pm kick-off

Bristol City suffered no fresh injury setbacks against Preston but Luke Mcnally and Mark Sykes will miss the entire play-off programme
Cameron Pring is doubtful after missing the final games of the regular season with a hamstring complaint
Chris Wilder’s team selection against Blackburn showed he had one eye on the play-offs as he rested goalkeeper Michael Cooper
handed a rare start to Alfie Gilchrist and gave minutes to Tom Davies following injury
It is likely that Cooper will return to the starting line-up alongside the likes of Harrison Burrows
Bristol City will hope the form book goes out the window in the play-offs as they finished regular season with back-to-back losses
though the Blades have hardly pulled up any trees of late
The first leg has a score draw written all over it with Sheffield United taking full advantage of being at home in the second leg to advance to the Championship play-off final
The Blades are unbeaten in their last seven meetings against Bristol City and only a last gasp equaliser at Bramall Lane in March stopped them from recording a league double this season

Kuwaiti businessman Hussain AlSaeed took majority control in August 2023
before becoming sole owner three months later
and there has been a turnover of senior figures with chief executive Tom Gorringe and director of football George Friend leaving this season
Two new managers have been appointed since Joey Barton was sacked in October 2023, in Matt Taylor and Inigo Calderon, and Taylor hinted at disruption before he was sacked - when Lee Cattermole was briefly appointed to his coaching staff without his knowledge
Following Saturday's defeat by Reading
I felt that there were a lot of bad things that weren't because of the previous manager
"But it's true that when I came to the club there were a lot of things that I didn't like
results have stagnated and after 15th and 17th-place finishes over the past two seasons
Rovers were nine points clear of the bottom four
but a run of six consecutive defeats - now no wins in nine games - plummeted them towards danger
They also have the worst away record in the division
claiming just three wins and 12 points in 22 matches
Captain James Wilson said last weekend the squad have not been fit enough to consistently deliver 90-minute performances
and that standards on and off the pitch have not been at a suitable level
not helped by the loss of forwards Promise Omochere and Chris Martin since March through a hamstring injury and knee surgery respectively
They now face a likely summer overhaul before kicking off in League Two next season
Scott Lindsey has averaged 1.33 points per game as Crawley manager this season - which
In the same month the Red Devils secured promotion via a stylish League Two play-off run
A month later he was back, saying his passion to bring about further progress had prompted the U-turn - but the only movement since has been in the wrong direction
the man who masterminded Crawley's promotion
dropped a division to join MK Dons as their new head coach in September after 87 games and 20 memorable months at the helm
Although the club were already struggling in 18th place with seven points from seven games
Johnson insisted he did not want to lose Lindsey
Former Newcastle goalkeeper and Gateshead manager Rob Elliot came in on a two-and-a-half-year deal
Elliot only won six of his 33 matches in charge of the Reds
and left with Crawley 12 points adrift of safety in League One
Lindsey was reinstated for a second stint in charge
Back-to-back victories over Bristol Rovers and Rotherham United in his first two games sparked belief that survival was possible
And though the Reds claimed four wins in eight matches
it was not enough to keep the Sussex club from dropping to League Two after one season in the third tier

Daisy CrawfordA breastfeeding mum has hit out at easyJet after what she described as a "humiliating" ordeal when she was told she would be charged extra for bringing breast milk and pumping equipment onboard her flight
Daisy Crawford said the easyJet staff at Bristol Airport were "stony faced" and showed "no understanding" of how upsetting the security process was
Ms Crawford flew from Bristol to Belfast after visiting friends and family in Devon
Despite making it through security at the airport with no issues
at the gate she was told that as she was carrying pumped breast milk
She claimed the staff "made no attempt" to understand her situation, saying she may have had a premature baby, meaning the pumped breast milk would be critical for its health.
told Bristol Live staff at the gate told her she had "no choice" to pay
unless she could fit all the breastmilk and pump into her one cabin bag

attempted to find the information she had read online about flying with breastmilk
but didn’t have any signal and said she was told by staff "we’ve given you time."
Ms Crawford added: "The staff were very stony faced and said we’re just doing our job and we’re people too
We’re not trying to upset you." The mum-of-three replied: "Well this is very upsetting for me
At this point the mum-of-three said she had had enough and started unpacking the clothes she had in her bag in order to fit the milk and pump in
"I felt adamant that I wasn't going to pay,” she said

so that I could fit the cool bag in my bag
"I did loads of research beforehand and it says everywhere that you are free to travel with as much milk as you need and it wasn’t a problem on the way out
“Why should I have to use space in an already small baggage allowance to carry equipment that is essential to me as a breastfeeding mother
and I don’t think someone with other medical equipment would be expected to fit it in their hand luggage or be charged extra
and that travelling potentially costs more for me because I’m breastfeeding."
The government website states that: "You can carry breast milk in hand luggage even if you’re not travelling with a baby."
It also says you can travel with unlimited amounts of breast milk provided that "individual containers of breast milk must hold no more than 2,000ml.
Each container will need to be screened at the security point. Airport staff might need to open the containers to screen the liquids.
An easyJet spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for Ms Crawford’s experience while boarding her flight as this is not the level of service we expect.
“We advise customers to carry baby milk in their cabin baggage and do allow customers an additional free of charge bag for a breast pump and milk. We ask them to let us know in advance of travel so there are no issues at the gate."
Up in the directors’ box, Paraag Marathe looked on inscrutably. If, and it remains quite a big if, he really is considering sacking Farke, the club’s chairman – who, perhaps significantly pulled out of a planned pre-match television interview at the last minute – must surely be having second thoughts after this.
Read moreWin at Plymouth on Saturday and Farke’s formidably impressive Leeds will finish the season on 100 points and, due to their superior goal difference, clinch the Championship title. All kaleidoscopic passing and movement, they simply steamrollered Bristol City into submission and the visiting manager
can only hope that a defeat that could have been considerably heavier does not exert too much psychological damage at a vital moment
Although City are well placed to finish in the top six
they may still need to beat Preston at Ashton Gate on Saturday to secure a playoff semi-final against Sheffield United or
Manning’s players did not have a shot of any description until the 75th minute here
Given Farke’s achievement in securing a top-two place last week despite losing three of his best players in a £140m fire sale last summer
reports that he could be about to be sacked seem absurd
Although the manager is due to meet with Marathe this week to “discuss the future”
club sources claim it is all part of a routine end of season review and nothing out of the ordinary
Whatever the precise truth – given that the stories have not emerged from thin air it seems someone
somewhere clearly has an agenda –the club’s owners
are surely misguided if they really believe they can get a better manager
Do they not appreciate just how good Farke is
the outgoing Everton-bound Leeds chief executive penned an ode to the German in Monday’s match programme
“I want to congratulate Daniel on an almost immaculate season,” he wrote
“This club needs a leader with broad shoulders
strong principles and unshakeable belief if it is to be successful
I don’t believe we could have a better leader.”
Farke himself remained characteristically poised before kick-off
telling a television interviewer: “It’s not my topic … I just recommend you don’t believe everything you read in a newspaper.”

still soaked in the champagne his players had sprayed over him at the final whistle
“Right now it’s just about celebrating this special day,” said Farke
I signed a long term contract here and the next step is to establish this side in the Premier League.”
Farke took his place in the home dugout on an unusually warm late April evening
the ground turned into a sea of twirling yellow scarves as the stadium rocked to a raucously rousing rendition of the club anthem “Marching on Together”
Five years ago when Leeds were last promoted to the Premier League
the Covid pandemic dictated that locals were denied their party
They certainly made up for it here and a City team penned into their own half and struggling to string two passes together proved perfectly obliging guests

With the once again excellent right-back Jayden Bogle rampaging forward and the outstanding Japan central midfielder Ao Tanaka integral to much glorious movement
the ever dangerous Manor Solomon swiftly swept the ball into the back of the net
Although that effort was disallowed as Joël Piroe had strayed offside
Tanaka soon half-volleyed Solomon’s clever looping cross beyond Max O’Leary
may have been encouraged to note that Tanaka was unmarked
City mark zonally but that system failed here
with the best of several fine saves denying Solomon
Leeds though monopolised possession and doubled their lead when Wilfried Gnonto ran onto Piroe’s superb through ball and expertly lifted his shot over the advancing O’Leary
By way of emphasising that 30 points separate these sides
substitute Largie Ramazani scored the third with his first touch after meeting a ball from Junior Firpo as perfectly calibrated as Leeds performance
When Ramazani controlled Ilia Gruev’s through pass and whipped a stoppage-time fourth past O’Leary Elland Road offered Farke a standing ovation

167 CommentsBristol Rovers have sacked head coach Inigo Calderon following the team's relegation from League One
Burton's draw with Wigan on Tuesday confirmed Rovers' return to League Two following three seasons in the third tier
His final game in charge was a 4-1 defeat by Blackpool on Saturday
a ninth loss in 10 matches to end the campaign
First-team coach Miguel Llera has also left The Memorial Stadium
Calderon was appointed on Boxing Day but Rovers only won six of his 26 games in charge and they finished 22nd in the table
The former Brighton & Hove Albion defender was appointed on a two-and-a-half-year deal
with the club 19th in the table and three points above the drop zone
The Bristol Rovers job was Calderon's first in a first-team managerial role
with the 43-year-old previously being manager of Brighton's under-18s team
back-to-back wins against Huddersfield and Bolton saw Rovers move nine points clear of the relegation zone
but a torrid run of eight defeats in nine games followed to drop them into the bottom four
Calderon wants Rovers stay despite relegation
Bristol Rovers and Crawley relegated from League One
who was sacked in early December after a year in the job
the issues that Taylor's team struggled with at the start of the campaign persisted under Calderon
Rovers' tally of 44 goals scored is the fourth-lowest in the division - with 25 scored during Calderon's tenure - and the manager's plight was not helped by the loss of strikers Chris Martin and Promise Omochere to season-ending injuries in early March
The club also sit bottom of the table for away results
Under Calderon there was only one away win in 12 league matches
Calderon had consistently been honest in his assessment of the side and last month said the team were playing like "a League Two side".
We knew it was my first chance in senior management and the fact I am not getting success has been frustrating for me," Calderon said following their defeat by Reading
"But at the same time I sleep well in terms of I think I am trying to do everything possible - you cannot imagine the hours I try to put in to make this team stay in this division
It still hasn't been enough so maybe I have to do better
Inigo Calderon's short tenure as Rovers' head coach has been a difficult one for him
He was so excited to get the chance of his first senior job in football management he spent Christmas away from his family in Spain to prepare
And while there were definitely some games where he - and the team - showed some real promise (back-to-back wins over Huddersfield and Bolton in a run of five home wins in seven games) their awful finish to the season sealed his fate
He certainly made mistakes during that time
with some of his substitutions leaving fans scratching their heads
But potentially the biggest issues he's faced weren't of his making
Rovers' owner, Hussain AlSaeed, told us this season's playing budget is the largest in the club's history
and while plenty of the players recruited in the summer are undoubtedly talented
the blend of a lot of youngsters and a handful of very senior players wasn't right
with all his senior strikers having had significant injury issues
they didn't sign an experienced player as cover
And with just five goals scored in their past 10 games
that decision probably cost Calderon his job and Rovers their place in League One
Rovers have confirmed that nine players will be leaving the club when their contracts expire this summer
scored 13 goals in 113 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons with the Pirates
Romaine Sawyers and Jerry Lawrence are all departing
forward Jevani Brown and goalkeeper Matt Hall are also being released
will continue his rehabilitation from a knee injury with the club
A one-year contract extension has been trigged in centre-back James Wilson's deal

The daily charges can soon add up(Image: Alphotographic via Getty Images)People who have not yet paid their self-assessment tax returns will be hit with new penalties
as it's been officially three months since the deadline
Those late in settling with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will now face a daily charge of £10 until full payment is made
TotallyMoney CEO Alastair Douglas said: "Although the deadline was back in January
it's likely that hundreds of thousands of people still haven't filed their tax returns
And while the initial £100 fine might not have been enough to encourage some to get going
HMRC will start charging late filers an extra £10 per day
"This is on top of the staggering 8.5% late payment interest rate on outstanding balances." Come September
HMRC will impose an added 5% fine or £300 on the owed tax
another repetition of this penalty comes into effect
Those fined have a 30-day window to settle up these penalties
Alastair highlighted the possibility of having penalties dismissed if failure to pay tax is due to a legitimate reason. HMRC provides a series of "reasonable excuses" to challenge incurred penalties, reports the Express
Alastair added: "If you're struggling to pay your bill in full
where you might be able to set up a payment plan
under a 'Time to Pay' arrangement." Typically
'Time to Pay' arrangements for Self Assessment must be requested within 60 days after the payment due date
Additionally, you need to owe less than £30,000 and have completed filing your most recent tax return. For those struggling with tax debts, free debt advice can be sought from Money Helper.

Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic told BBC Sport:
We faced by far the best team in our competition
"We were relegated last week and still showed this kind of performance to make it very difficult for Leeds to break us - it shows the good spirit and character of the lads
"Our obligation today was to give it our all
we played for the Green Army and we wanted to reward our fans for the last time with a strong performance
"The lads went all in and we simply needed maybe just 120 seconds to have a result we deserved
"But that's (what happens) when you face the champions

Millwall boss Alex Neil speaking to BBC Radio London: "Whenever you’re playing the top teams in this division
You need to have a game plan; you have to understand you’re not going to dominate the ball
"That wasn’t our intention; we tried to get them to risk the ball so we could nick it and try to counter
We had opportunities and didn’t make the most of them
"In a game of this magnitude when Burnley are chasing the league and we’re chasing play-offs
you need to take the key moments and we only converted one
But I’ve been involved in those moments where if you take your chances you can take the points

No chance' - Parkerpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 3 May16:36 BST 3 MayFT: Burnley 3-1 Millwall
Burnley manager Scott Parker speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm so proud
We came into today hoping it would go our way
but wanting to win the game and get to 100 points - we did that
"If you'd have said to me you'd reach 100 points
16 goals conceded and you wouldn't win the league I'd have said 'no chance'
the players' reaction is one of needing to get back in it
created numerous chances; on another day it could have been a lot more
"The challenge goes up a level or two next year
We've got a rock solid foundation and we've proven that this season
reboot and we'll come into next year with a driving ambition to be as successful as we can."

"Everyone in the club managed difficult moments and it has been a tough season for everyone and we deserved to stay in the division
"We had a team that was rock bottom and to achieve the target this season with all the injuries and everything else is just massive
"Now it’s over and we crossed the line
we can rest a little bit and I told the players that we will remember this day for years to come."

we look in really good shape to go up for next season and hopefully stay up
Is is going to be difficult but we've worked hard on everything; our defensive record speaks for itself

Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"Again it was an outstanding performance
"The game plan until we conceded was perfect
It was exactly what we expected but we conceded the goal too quickly
One bad decision and you get punished but I think the performance was right
we put every attacking player we have on the pitch
we played with only one midfield player to try to have that lucky punch but it was a close call
we are disappointed to miss out on the play-offs but at least we build some momentum and we can keep on going for the next season."
"Tyrhys Dolan will be a player we will have to show patience [on] – it will be his decision [whether to stay at Blackburn]
"He has put himself in a position [to be out of contract]
It is a good position for him so we have to respect that
he’s got the love we give him but at some point it depends on the offer he has."

"It says on the shirts 'always believe' and we have done that numerous times now
and you see it today - it's a fantastic group of lads
I couldn't be more proud of them and what they've done
"There's no expectation or pressure on us so we have got to go and be brave and enjoy it

"Really disappointing performance considering the day and the performance that we needed to get ourselves out of where we were
Sorry to our supporters for traveling up and down the country
We understand their disappointment and anger right now

"The game was so lacking in quality it’s frightening
"The players managed themselves really well during the week and managed themselves through the game well today
"Since I came in [to Stoke] in January
it has been a really tough period - I think one of the toughest of my career
It has been really difficult because I’m the third permanent manager and fourth voice they have had
This team should never have been anywhere near the bottom
"And had everyone been fit and we’d been in earlier
things wouldn’t have got down to this day but thankfully we have managed to come out the other side okay."

Bristol Rovers captain Scott Sinclair is one of the players leaving the club this summer(Image: Tom Sandberg/PPAUK)Bristol Rovers have confirmed that nine players will be leaving the club this summer following the expiration of their respective contracts
Jerry Lawrence and Matt Hall will all depart while Chris Martin will continue his rehab for a knee injury at the club
It is expected that the striker won't be fit until autumn at the earliest and the club will make a decision on offering the 36-year-old a deal once he has returned to fitness
the Gas have also confirmed that they have triggered a one-year extension in James Wilson's contract
The defender has played every minute for Rovers this season
Sinclair has spent two-and-a-half years back at his boyhood club and was made club captain ahead of this season
Aston Villa and Celtic winger was absent from the matchday squad that travelled to Blackpool on Saturday
alongside Ward and Hunt who depart after two-and-a-half and two years respectively
has made 118 appearances for Rovers over the course of two spells
The midfielder was a loanee at the club during the 2020/21 season but then returned on a permanent basis in the summer of 2022
The 26-year-old has spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Forest Green Rovers and will be involved in a play-off push as the Gloucestershire outfit attempt to return to the EFL at the first time of asking
Sawyers arrived in north Bristol in January on a deal until the end of the season while Brown returned to the club midway through the season after an unsuccessful loan spell at Notts County
His last appearance for Rovers was on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign
22-year-old goalkeeper Hall also departs after two years
during which time he has made just two appearances for the club
20-year-old academy graduate Lawrence also departs having made a total of three first-team appearances for the Gas
Alongside those leaving the club upon the expiry of their respective contracts
six loanees will also be returning to their parent clubs
taking the total number of players leaving Rovers to a significant 15
Michael Reindorf (Cardiff City) and Myles Roberts (Watford) all depart
Rovers also confirmed on Sunday morning that head coach Inigo Calderon has left the club with the search process for a new manager well underway ahead of the Gas' League Two campaign next season
In the club's official statement, director of football Ricky Martin said: “On behalf of Bristol Rovers I would like to express my gratitude to each of the players and staff who are moving on from the club this summer. Each goes with our collective best wishes for the future.
“The hard work is already underway in terms of our preparations for the 2025/26 season, including a comprehensive recruitment process for both our coaching department and first-team squad.
“While we are all experiencing the pain of our confirmed relegation, we are channelling that energy into ensuring our team and club is in the best possible position ahead of our first League Two fixture in August.”

Visitors at Clevedon in North Somerset enjoy the sunshine by the pier(Image: PA)A West Country beach has been hailed as a 'genuine Victorian treasure' after being named among the UK's best
The Telegraph has compiled an extensive list of the best beaches to visit
Clevedon boasts a sand-and-pebble beach and grassy promenade
The Telegraph states that while Somerset boasts some truly stunning beaches
blonde sand of Brean Down and the quaint beauty of Layde Bay
Clevedon offers the best overall experience
It features a lengthy sand-and-pebble beach
backed by a grassy promenade complete with a bandstand
called the beach 'a genuine Victorian treasure'
He added: "What is most incredible about Clevedon Pier is that is hasn't been commercialised
"Good on the local people who worked tirelessly for almost two decades to raise the money to rebuild it after its collapse during stress testing in 1970
People enjoy the warm weather on the Victorian Pier at Clevedon
North Somerset(Image: PA)"After a long campaign supported by Sir John Betjeman
who described Clevedon as "the most beautiful pier in England"
The Toll House at the entrance is a lovely place and has some interesting items for sale
particularly to watch the sun set on a good day."
1970 Dorris said the beach was 'a must'
adding: "A lovely walk to blow the cobwebs away and see clevedon from another perspective
Indeed, in 2014 Simon Cowell’s X Factor boyband filmed the music video for the track 'You and I' on the town’s pier.
The pier is a particular draw for history buffs. The northern part of the town boasts one of the UK's oldest piers, constructed in 1869, it stretches 310m into the Bristol Channel and features a café in its pagoda. A 1,020ft leg grounds teh structure into the Severn Estuary.
This pier benefited from a recent resurrection after a partial collapse in 1970 led to its destruction, and its full restoration was not completed until 1989.
The second is that, it was orginally built as a jump off point for paddle steamers, and 156 years later, has roughly the same purpose – each summer, it welcomes the PS Waverley, launched in 1946, and the MV Balmoral , 1949.
Inland, Hill Road is renowned for its trendy independent businesses such as Vintage and Vine bar and bottleshop, and Books on the Hill. At Clevedon's southern end, you'll find the expansive Marine Lake, a 15,000 square metre tidal infinity pool where visitors can swim, crab, canoe or SUP free of charge (though donations are welcomed).
Drivers have been warned about overnight road closures(Image: Getty)Drivers are being warned of upcoming overnight road closures on the outskirts of Bristol this week as part of new traffic management measures aimed at easing pressure from ongoing A432/M4 bridge works
South Gloucestershire Council’s StreetCare team has announced that resurfacing and road marking improvements will be carried out in two phases
The work will take place along the stretch from the top of Shorthill Road to the Shireway mini roundabout in in Westerleigh village
road markings will be refreshed at the road hump on Westerleigh Road
and the beige surface at the uncontrolled crossing point by the bus stop will also be re-laid
access to all properties within the closure zone will be maintained throughout
A signed diversion will be in place during the road closures
These upgrades are being implemented to help manage increased local traffic resulting from long-running works on the A432 bridge over the M4, which continues to cause disruption for commuters and residents in Yate and the surrounding area
The old A432 bridge was removed in late 2023
with a new one currently under construction as part of National Highways' upgrades to the M4
The bridge replacement has led to a diversion of traffic through nearby villages like Westerleigh
causing significant distribution for commuters and residents
South Gloucestershire Council says the latest improvements are part of its ongoing response to the increased demand on minor roads and hopes the refreshed markings and resurfaced crossings will help ease congestion and improve safety for pedestrians and drivers.
Post-match analysis from the Robins TV studio

05 May 2025New behind the scenes footage shows the race against time contractors faced to demolish a bridge over the M4 - and have the busy motorway back open in time for Monday morning rush hour
National Highways contractors moved in last month to dismantle the old A432 Badminton Road bridge, which crossed over the M4 as part of the main road between Yate and Bristol
The bridge was closed in July 2023 when inspectors found cracks
A stretch of the motorway was shut for a weekend at the end of March while the work was carried out
the crew worked inwards before allowing it to collapse onto the M4 below over a near-60 hour period
National Highways has now shared a video showing the process of how the bridge was reduced to its component parts
excavators can be seen tearing through concrete and steel cables while large wheel loaders remove material from the site
engineering team manager for National Highways
explained: "We found some serious problems with the post-tensioning system
which led us to demolish it and replace the bridge
"Post-tension bridges are steel cables that are placed through the structures and over the years because of construction defects those cables have actually corroded
the road closed and then back open again for Monday morning traffic."
He said the demolition project was an "absolutely massive team effort"
subcontractors and workers from National Highways
was designed “at a time when future maintenance was less of a consideration" according to National Highways
(Image: National Highways)Work build a new bridge is due to begin soon but it could take up to a year to be completed
The new structure will be built in the same place and will have three lanes
two of which will run southbound towards Wick Wick Roundabout
National Highways and South Gloucestershire Council hope to have the bridge open to the public in March 2026

A selection of the best fan images from City’s 2-2 draw over Preston North End at Ashton Gate – a result that secured a top six position for Liam Manning’s side
As what proved to be Inigo Calderon's final interview as Bristol Rovers head coach concluded
the Spaniard thanked local reporters for their support throughout the season with a smile
he responded to any questions surrounding next season and the work that has to be done over the summer as best he could
likely knowing that he would not be the man to lead the club in League Two
The Spaniard declared his desire to stay on
For the third time since the Kuwaiti takeover of the club less than two years ago
Rovers are looking for a new permanent manager
Their two appointments so far have failed and
the club now finds itself back where they never wanted to be - League Two
they cannot afford to get this next appointment wrong
The last time the Gas dropped into the fourth tier
they were able to get out at the first time of asking
Numerous clubs have not been as lucky with the likes of Bradford City (until Saturday)
MK Dons and Swindon Town are just some of the clubs that have known heights higher thank League One but have lurked in the bottom level of league football for years
Get this next appointment wrong and Rovers will join that list
new director of football Ricky Martin will be leading the search process
which Bristol Live understands is very much already underway with potential candidates already being spoken to
There is never an exact timeline on these things but the hope will be that an appointment is made swiftly to eradicate any uncertainty
It is some start to the job for the ex-Stoke City and Norwich City technical director
Not only have 15 players already left the football club that will need to be replaced
Martin is also being entrusted to select a manager that will give Rovers the best possible chance of securing promotion
Exactly what the recruitment brief for the Gas' new manager is has not been specified yet
but the brief will surely revolve around the ideal candidate having at least one promotion on their CV
they cannot afford to take the gamble of appointing a first-time manager again after Calderon's four-and-a-half months at the club
The Spaniard's appointment was certainly different
joining as the club's first non-British or Irish head coach while it was also his first experience of senior management
arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion where he had been the Seagulls' Under-18s manager
It quickly became apparent after Matt Taylor was sacked in December that Rovers were looking to make a foreign appointment
whose experiences had come in the Austrian top-flight
was pinpointed as the club's first choice to succeed Taylor
the club were forced to seek alternative candidates when
they were unable to be granted a work permit for Wimmer
the German has taken charge of Scottish Premiership club Motherwell
With permit issues set to be a major obstacle
former director of football George Friend then went for the closest thing to a foreign appointment
bringing in a Spaniard who was already working in England
Rovers were lingering dangerously close to the relegation zone after a poor first half of the season
most clubs would go for an experienced firefighter
which is what the eventually successful Burton Albion did when hiring Gary Bowyer
the Gas took a seismic gamble at a pivotal moment in their season
Six wins and two draws in Calderon's first 15 league games demonstrated progress while there was also the expected room for improvement
Performances had improved with the Mem starting to see more goals and
wins while away results were still an issue
the 43-year-old was incredibly likeable; you could not help but want him to do well
It looked as though he was restoring some unity between the supporters and their club with some fans going as far to say he was the best in that department since Darrell Clarke
A 3-2 win over play-off chasing Bolton Wanderers on March 11 had Rovers nine points clear of the relegation zone while the mood at the club was certainly up
If you had said that the Gas would then pick up just one more point in their remaining 10 matches
An inexcusable capitulation has seen Rovers end up on the wrong side of the dreaded dotted line
even when they looked on course for survival with matches to spare
That dismal run of form has proven to be the killer for Calderon
the Spaniard deserved the chance to sculpt the team in his image
There is also certainly an argument that numerous factors outside of his control also led to Rovers' relegation and thus Calderon deserved the chance to try and guide the club out of League Two next season
confidence in his capabilities to navigate through the rough and tumble of the fourth tier and get the Pirates out of it at the first time of asking was scarce
The mood around the club desperately has to change and
the first step has been to make a change in the dugout
He leaves with everyone's best wishes
Five more points and the situation would have been so different
Now is not the time for risks in the managerial department
Rovers have to go for a household name with experience of getting teams out of this division while being able to restore some unity with supporters
Michael Duff and Steve Evans are two names mentioned by supporters while club legend Darrell Clarke has been highlighted as many fans' preference
as seems to be the case every time Rovers are looking for a new manager and Clarke has been out of work
a younger profile but an incredibly exciting coach who has a promotion on his CV when getting Notts County out of the National League

It is likely to be someone currently out of work
mainly because paying compensation would just add to the club's bill after laying off two managers and being relegated
the chaos amid uncertainty around operations behind the scenes has sculpted the narrative of who would want this job
there is a surplus of English managers compared to the vacancies currently in the Football League and the hierarchy have already demonstrated that they are willing to spend
they spend a bit more wisely with a more experienced recruitment chief at the helm
Regardless of whether ongoing rumours regarding interference from above are true or not
these are businessmen at the end of the day and their investment has lost significant value
It doesn't take someone with decades of experience in the game to realise that what they have done so far has not worked and change has to be made in order to reaccumulate the value lost
MK Dons have shown ambition by bringing in ex-Derby County and Rotherham United boss Paul Warne
Neil Harris at Cambridge United has worked at Championship level
also has a CV with decent jobs above League Two after signing on permanently at Shrewsbury Town
Rovers have to make an appointment that sends the message: 'we are serious about getting promoted this year' and
it will be the start of attempting to restore faith throughout the fanbase which is one of the most significant tasks for the summer
Football is a funny old game. On Saturday lunchtime, Bristol City poured blood
sweat and tears into what most expected to be a season-defining clash with Preston North End
only for the Robins' fate to be left in the hands of 22 men playing a match 177 miles away at Bramall Lane
Sure, the Reds could have made their life easier had they claimed all three points against Paul Heckingbottom's side but the Lilywhites had their own future to fight for
Having come into the final day of the campaign 20th in the table and just one point clear of the relegation zone
North End knew only a win would guarantee their spot in the second tier next term
The Lilywhites also knew they would have to battle to secure those three points required and battle they did
Having sniffed out City attack after City attack
Emil Riis nodded the away side into the lead from a corner with just under 30 minutes played to increase the tension inside BS3
the Reds continued to dominate possession and occupy dangerous areas
only for Preston to double their advantage through Milutin Osmajic 15 minutes into the second half
Before anyone could get too bogged down in the mathematics of what may or may not have been required
up popped Ross McCrorie with a quickfire brace to ensure the points would be shared in the West Country
the full-time whistle brings with it a chorus of cheers to kickstart celebrations
While that was the case for the Preston fans in the Atyeo Stand
including the Reds players who huddled together on the halfway line
lay dormant waiting for an update from Bramall Lane
After what felt like an eternity, news filtered down to the pitch that Blackburn Rovers had only managed a draw against Sheffield United and in a blink of an eye
a sea of red and white poured onto the playing field to celebrate a first top six finish in 17 years
What followed were moments that will live with players
For the first time in an awfully long while
those of a red persuasion in South Bristol have something tangible to celebrate
I'm certainly not ready to turn my attention to Thursday night and the first leg of the play-off semi-final so I doubt you are either. Instead, let's look at the stand-out talking points from City's 2-2 draw with Preston North End..
The image of the Reds squad gathered on the turf before breaking into celebration as the full-time whistle was blown at Bramall Lane can be added to that list. So can the moment when Liam Manning and his son Isaac performed the Robins boss' signature fist-bumps in front of Section 82
Regardless of what happens over the next couple of weeks
Manning and this City squad have carved out their own bit of BS3 history
Manning came in for an awful lot of criticism in the wake of that game when he told Bristol Live the Robins were still "heading in the right direction" despite their "passive" loss
At the time it felt ridiculous to make such a claim in the middle of a four-match winless run
since then the Reds have played 24 Championship games and lost just five
despite arguably getting weaker in the January transfer window
He may have seen it sooner than most but the progress he felt was evident then has become more and more visible with each week that passes
Partner all of that with the off-the-pitch circumstances the 39-year-old, his family, the coaching staff and the players have had to contend with this term and it is impossible not to praise everyone involved in this current set-up for what they have delivered
City don't need to be promoted to the Premier League for this season to be a success and Manning doesn't have to mastermind a play-off campaign to be celebrated for his work as head coach
only one other manager has taken the Robins this close to the top flight
Manning finds himself in esteemed company and he and his squad have more than earned their place in the Reds' history book
He may have made the move to Ashton Gate two years ago this summer, but I think most Bristol City fans would agree that 2025 feels like the year the real Ross McCrorie well and truly arrived in the West Country
The Scotland international's problems in his time with the Reds have been well documented
A bone infection early in his City tenure threatened to be career-ending and then a string of injury issues prevented him from putting together a sustained run of matches
Saturday lunchtime's draw with Preston was his seventh successive start
the longest run of starts in his time in BS3
and he made sure it was an afternoon to remember
the events of Saturday lunchtime's clash had very little bearing on the top six battle
"I thought he was blowing after 15 minutes so I didn't actually expect to see him at the back post as he was," Liam Manning explained post-match
he's definitely turned up with the goals at the right time."
the Reds didn't display the sense of bravery or urgency needed to find their way past the low block
as has become this side's trademark throughout the 46-game season
never got drawn into the occasion and managed to find the goals needed to claim a point
that mattered very little but it is a testament to the character of this team
the lads are desperate to do well and they feel it," Manning explained post-match
to experience what we did on Monday and have a real test of what the level looks like
to then come here and know the pressure's on and it's in our hands
the lads have over and over again shown how much they want it
I'm delighted for them because they're a special group."
To have that level of arrogance and self-confidence where you always truly believe you're capable of succeeding is an integral part of being successful
It is one of the primary reasons City have come this far this term and who knows how much further it could take them
While all of what I have written above rings true, it would be wrong of me to suggest that Bristol City should just simply settle for a spot in the play-offs
from my vantage point in the press box at least
anything from this point on is well and truly a bonus
the Robins have absolutely no reason to head into Thursday evening's clash in fear of Sheffield United
When the two sides met at Ashton Gate all the way back in November of last year, it took a 98th-minute winner from Harrison Burrows for the Blades to secure all three points
Liam Manning's side would have been good value for at least a point
let alone three as they managed to go toe to toe with Chris Wilder's side who went on an eight-match unbeaten run in the wake of that win
The return match at Bramall Lane just a matter of weeks ago was rather similar. Although it took a stoppage time leveller from Mark Sykes for the Robins to come away with a point, they could have and perhaps should have claimed all three
Had Michael Cooper not produced one of the saves of the season to deny Sinclair Armstrong from close range
it felt as if the Reds would have been the team with the momentum
Although there has been pressure on City over the last few months
the tension in these next two games will be at another level
Manning has often spoken about the Reds needing to learn from their previous experiences
What they should take from their last two meetings with the Blades is that they will have a chance of reaching the final
should they match their previous performance level
If you watched City's defeat at the hands of Leeds United at Elland Road
you will know just how well a side can play once the pressure is off of them
While I'm not suggesting the Reds will produce that good a display
Manning's squad have already achieved their goal for the season and hopefully
now they will be able to play in a similarly laid-back
Of course, the focus is entirely on the two-legged semi-final clash with Sheffield United but the same principle will apply should City find themselves up against either Coventry City or Sunderland in the final
Ross McCrorie was Bristol City's hero against Preston North End(Image: David Davies/PA Wire)Ross McCrorie admits it was "incredible" to secure Bristol City's place in the Championship play-offs in such dramatic fashion following the Robins' draw with Preston North End
with the Scotland international insisting he made the move to Ashton Gate because "he saw something" in the Reds' project
A brace from the wing-back saw Liam Manning's side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with the Lilywhites on Saturday lunchtime
McCrorie first headed low past David Cornell in the Preston net before calmly slotting under the North End stopper five minutes later with a smart right-footed finish
Though the comeback lifted the mood in and around BS3, celebrations were limited come the full-time whistle as those of a red and white persuasion waited for an update on Blackburn Rovers' meeting with Sheffield United
The scenes that followed were truly special as thousands of fans burst on the pitch to celebrate with the players
Just the emotions of the game were so up and down," the Scotsman told ITV after the full-time whistle
"We went down 2-0 but the fans never stopped cheering us on and the boys never gave up
We got our rewards in the end and play-offs man
"It's one of the moments I will probably remember for the rest of my life
I came to this club because I saw something
I saw the gaffer had a plan and we're in the play-offs now and it's just credit to the gaffer and the boys for all the hard work they've put in over the last 18 months to put ourselves in this position so it's incredible
"The fans came on and honestly it was amazing," McCrorie continued
"Some fella grabbed me and just picked me up and I got a few digs and that in the ribs but honestly

"I genuinely can't put it into words it was that good
The fans have been amazing all season and we're going to need it these next two games."
Now, the Robins find themselves 270 minutes away from the Premier League. Of course, getting there will be by no means easy with Sheffield United waiting for the Reds in the semi-finals and should City navigate their way past the Blades
one of Sunderland or Coventry City will face Manning's side at Wembley
Chris Wilder and company travel to Ashton Gate for the first leg on Thursday evening before the Robins head to the Steel City for the return fixture on Monday

"Why not?" the defender replied when asked how he felt about the prospect of two more games. "We've got nothing to lose and anything can happen in the play-offs.
"We've got a good quality side and we've got two games now, let's just give it our all."
