Swansea City Under-18s coaches Darren Davies
Ollie Jefferies and Paul Whitfield raised over £1,100 for Cancer Research Wales after completing the Richard Burton 10k in Port Talbot on Sunday
The trio completed the course through the country roads of Cwmafan and the steep climb up the Graig in blistery conditions
the day after the under-18s took on Plymouth Argyle away from home in the Professional Development League Cup
The famous Tata Steel Richard Burton 10k celebrated its 40th anniversary this year
who were tragically killed in a car accident in 1981.
The coaches ran in support of Cancer Research Wales
a charity close to their hearts. Cancer Research Wales is the only charity dedicated wholly to funding cancer research in Wales.
the organisation has worked with the government and key decision makers to revolutionise cancer research and make the right policy changes for the people of Wales.
Swansea City Under-18s' coach Darren Davies said: "We did it for a worthwhile cause
originally we were going to do it for some team spirit and camaraderie amongst the staff.
Sara [Grey] came up with the idea to do it for charity
it's a very worthwhile charity close to everyone's hearts.
"We are blown away with the support that we've had and we're happy to have contributed to a very important cause."

Vale United progressed through to the third round of the SWFA Senior Cup after a 1-0 win against Cwmafan on Saturday afternoon
Despite not being in action for three weeks
Vale headed into this one feeling confident after a resounding 7-0 win against Carnetown last time out
the away side also travelled to The Corntown Carpet with high hopes after a 4-0 win against Gwynfi United last Saturday
playing from right to left as they looked to progress through to the next round of the cup
both sides struggled to hold onto possession early with most of the play taking place in the centre of the park
Cwmafan’s chances of reaching the third round were quickly dampened after Lewis Richards’ strike gave Vale a 1-0 lead
After some good build-up play by Jay Tominey
Ryan Jenkins’ low cross was met by Lewis Richards
who did well to get in front of his marker and tap in to put the home side in front
With new signing Luke Cox watching on from the side-lines after his move from Llantwit Major
the intensity of the game began to rise as Cwmafan’s Aled Rumph and Vale’s Jay Tominey both received yellow cards for late challenges
Cwmafan went close as Connor Brennan found space down the right-hand side
although his teammates failed to get on the end of his cross into the area
The away side then created another chance as they went in search of the equaliser
this time Cory Davies’ effort sailed just wide of Vale goalkeeper Rhys Davies’ post
Vale had other ideas as their goalscorer Jenkins looked to grab his second of the day by driving towards the opposition defence
After unleashing a strike from the edge of the area
his effort was comfortably saved by Josh Davies in the Cwmafan goal
Vale headed into the interval with a 1-0 lead
leaving assistant manager James Lang pleased with what he had seen in the first 45 minutes
and it was the home side who had a glorious chance to double their lead early on as Tominey’s effort went inches wide of the top right corner
the away side quickly worked the ball up the field from the resulting goal kick
and were close to drawing level when Connor Brennan went through on goal
the Vale ‘keeper raced off his line to close down the space
and did just enough to keep his side in the lead
and had two great chances to double their lead
before the goalscorer Jenkins was at the centre of attention once again
this time his effort sailed wide of the post
Cwmafan were awarded the first corner of the second-half and nearly found the equaliser
however James Davies was there to nod the ball to safety for the home side and out for another corner
although he couldn’t guide his effort on target
Vale had another opportunity to extend their lead through an unlikely source in centre-back Jay Ellis
After staying up the field following a free kick
although the Cwmafan defence stood stern and did enough to clear the danger
The away side’s best chance of finding an equaliser came five minutes before the final whistle as Brennan raced through one-on-one with just the ‘keeper to beat
leaving the away side wondering if it was ever going to be their day
Not the prettiest game of football from a neutral point of view
although Vale defended well to see out the win after taking an early lead

a café and industrial units(Image: Google Maps )A former nursing home that has been dubbed an "eyesore" could be transformed into shops and a café
An application has been made to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPTCBC) to change the former Min Yr Afon nursing home in Cwmavon into a café
Prominent figures in the area said they would like to see the site
Bryn and Cwmavon councillor at NPTCBC before the election period
"If there are shops there and they are full it will be all well and good
in my opinion I don't think it would take off because it is off the beaten track
the shops that would occupy the site could include a grocers

in ensuring that what is put there can add to the village
It is totally welcomed and it is about local businesses
It is about growing options and enhancing the area
Doing anything like this is always a positive."
The current building lies next to the River Afan and is considered a high-risk flooding area by Natural Resources Wales (NRW)
A flood consequences assessment attached to the planning application says a number of recommendations have been made to mitigate against the risk of flooding
The site plan for proposed shops and industrial units in Cwmavon(Image: Neath Port Talbot Council )One of these recommendations is that notices should be put up inside the building advising people on what steps to take in the event of a flood
It has also been advised that any skirting boards fitted should be water resistant and sockets and fuse boxes should be raised to 1.5 metres above ground level
applicant Andrew Rees of South Wales Supplies
"Everything [that would] go in there is commercial
There is no one living there or sleeping there," said Mr Rees
"I am not worried about flooding."
Mr Rees added: "We are keeping our fingers crossed and [will] go from there
[We want to] bring it back into [use] because it is an old dilapidated building
It took a while to put things together and get where we are now."
