Bonas asked the sisters: “You guys have such a close bond
is that something that your mum instilled?"
Prince Andrew suffers blow as Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice discuss childhood
Branson added: “I think as mothers we have quite a responsibly for setting the culture of our families
and obviously our husbands do too and fathers do too
but as women there's a lot that we do to create that culture and I think closeness of siblings comes into that."
Eugenie explained: “So I said at the beginning she's so spontaneous and full of joy bubbles
"She taught us how to be Table Manners A and Table Manners Z - so we’d go between the two and we’d know what the boundaries were
"I remember lessons of how she would say
and then we would go to Table Manners A [and she would say]
'You eat with your knives and forks.'
Princess Eugenie joined her older sister for the podcast
"I think because Beatrice and I had to live in a certain way
we’ve always done it as sisters and done it as siblings and she’s come at it from a perspective of
'You guys are really the only other people in each others lives who know exactly what goes on.'"
Eug and I love each other so much but mum really instilled in us this sense that we always had each other especially as sisters - she's very close with her sister who actually lives in Australia
When asked what Fergie would be most proud of
Beatrice explained: “She’d be most proud of our relationship
"The relationship that Eug and I have
but also the relationship we have with her and how sacred that is
Princess Beatrice paid a sweet tribute to her mother
but we are each other’s biggest fans and now in our career paths and in our charity work
we turn up for each other and that relationship and the effort and the work that she put in to creating that is probably one of the things that I’m most proud of.”
Neither Beatrice nor Eugenie mentioned their father

but the experience of writing has always been a private one for me
I started working for The Scarlet & Black — first as a staff writer and then as arts editor
My favorite part of working for The S&B is how it transformed writing into a collaborative act
in collaboration with other dedicated staff members
I witness that collaboration to an even greater extent
a single arts story will pass first through me
I find this streamlined flow of communication
Even before becoming arts editor this semester
I spent much of my time as a staff writer covering the arts
Whenever I found myself going to arts events on campus
interviewing visiting authors or talking to students about their creative passions
I felt tremendously lucky to be in the unique position of not only getting to have these amazing experiences
As I’ve gotten older and approached graduation
I’ve realized how rare and special it is to have such a fulfilling job
Although I am enormously grateful to everyone I have worked with during my time at The S&B for their care and hard work
I would particularly like to thank this semester’s Editors in Chief Nora Kohnhorst `25 and Charlotte Krone `25 for their compassionate and competent steering of the ship
I would also like to thank Sarah Evans `26
one of next year’s two amazing editors in chief
who gave me the confidence and guidance to periodically venture from the comfortable familiarity of arts coverage in order to write news stories — The S&B is in good hands indeed
I’m sure that I will follow The S&B’s coverage for years to come
and I can’t wait to see what the next generation of staff members will accomplish

The couple chose a meaningful cause for their first public night out since welcoming baby Athena
and her close friend Alice Naylor-Leyland has subtly shared a never-before-scene picture of the royal baby
Royal watchers were delighted, therefore, to spot a never-before-seen photo of Princess Beatrice’s new baby, subtly shared by Her Royal Highness’s close friend, Alice Naylor-Leyland. The pair have recently teamed up on a collection of baby shower homeware in partnership with Borne Charity, which aims to reduce the number of premature births in the UK.
When it comes to this trio, talent truly does run in the family. As Hello, Dolly! star Imelda Staunton claims her fifth Olivier Award, delve into her thespian dynasty, including her daughter, Bessie Carter – star of Bridgerton, Outrageous, and the Tatler May cover
Princess Beatrice was named patron of the foundation in early March
after revealing that baby Athena had been born pre-term
an experience that the 36-year-old royal said filled her with an ‘overhwhelming fear’ in a personal essay penned for British Vogue
Both mother and daughter are healthy and happy
with the difficult experience highlighting the joy that both Princess Beatrice and the public have found in the new royal baby – a joy that has only increased with this new photograph of Athena Elizabeth Rose
This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
Eagle-eyed royal fans spotted the snapshot in an image shared by Naylor-Leyland of their joint baby shower collection, which featured glasses, plates, and photo frames in powder blue and pink. In one of the wicker frames that sat on a baby blue tablecloth surrounded by statues of flamingos was a picture of Beatrice’s baby daughter.

Princess Beatrice of York was named as patron of prematurity research charity Borne after welcoming her baby daughter several weeks early
Princess Beatrice opened up about her experience with premature birth for a moving essay in British Vogue earlier this month. The eldest daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew revealed how ‘little control’ she felt when she learned, through routine scans, that her second baby with husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi would be born early.
‘You have no idea how these things will play out, what happens next. The uncertainty leaves you with an overwhelming fear of the unknown,’ she wrote. ‘Like countless other expectant mums, I lay awake in the weeks leading up to birth, trying to monitor each movement of the baby in my tummy and asking myself a thousand times: “What if this happens, or what if that happens?”’
As health scares rocked the royal family, the York sisters stepped up and supported the House of Windsor through one of its most challenging years
Athena Elizabeth Rose was born on 22 January, several weeks earlier than expected, weighing just four pounds and five ounces, her name a touching tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. In Princess Beatrice's moving essay, she describes how Athena was ‘so tiny, it took more than a few weeks for the tears of relief to dry and for life with our healthy baby to feel real. Her feet were so small – almost the same size as the paws on one of my older daughter’s soft bunnies.’
The older York sister has described the ‘overwhelming fear’ of giving birth pre-term
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi announced the birth of their baby daughter on Wednesday, but is Athena's name a secret tribute to Prince Andrew?
She reminded her readers that although she has lived a somewhat extraordinary life
her ‘joys and fears in pregnancy and motherhood are the same as those experienced by millions of other women around the world’
She also reassured fans that Athena was now ‘doing really well’
as she explained that she has ‘a few more answers to what happened
It's partly for this reason that she chose to become a patron of Borne
which led to her collaboration with Naylor-Leyland
pregnancy and motherhood’ had sparked the idea for the collection; Alice has opened up about welcoming her fourth child
Princess Beatrice rounded off her essay with an empowering call to arms: ‘nothing feels more vital than facilitating the necessary research into the health challenges that women face daily,’ she wrote
her two daughters will not have to face the same battles when they grow up
they’ll be doing it with the absolute best knowledge at their disposal.’
Firefighters from Beatrice Fire & Rescue spray down hotspots inside the Dempsters building on South Sixth Street in Beatrice on March 22 after an overnight fire at the abandoned facility
The city of Beatrice has control of more of the former Dempsters factory site after a courthouse auction this week
The former industrial facility on Sixth Street south of Perkins Street was severely damaged by a fire in March that the State Fire Marshal's Office has determined was intentionally set
The property has been vacant and condemned since 2019
City Attorney Taylor Rivera said on Friday that this week's acquisition included the main part of the damaged building
The sheriff's deed for the auction lists a price of $24,630.82
the amount of the tax lien on the property
Rivera said as the plaintiff in the foreclosure action
the city only had to pay court costs and related fees
Rivera said they've started foreclosure on the last parcel not owned by the city and expect it to be completed by sometime this fall
Rivera said city officials will try to apply for grants from the Environmental Protection Agency to help with demolition
including a partial collapse of the main structure

of Waseca passed away peacefully on January 23
2025 after a 3 year battle with stage 4 breast cancer
Up until the end Bea maintained her love for everyday life
she continued to stay active visiting and talking with her siblings
Bea’s life can broadly be defined by her two loves: Family and “work”
Work is in quotes as she always answered inquiries about her longevity at work with “I don’t think of it as work
I love to do it.” During her life she had a major impact on all those she encountered doing what she loved
MN to parents Elmer and Ruth (Allen) Maass
graduating from Waldorf High School in 1960
she was fiercely proud of her Maass heritage
She spent major holidays with them for most of her life
only stopping when COVID interrupted the traditions
Bea communicated with her siblings and extended “Maass” family frequently and valued the proximity in which they all lived
Until recently she continued to meet for birthday lunches with siblings and cousins
Bea met Mike O’Brien in 1966 and they were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on June 10
She spent the next 58 years as a faithful member of the church
and Bea’s 15 minutes of local fame came with the birth of her first girl after 7 boys in a row
She would add another girl two years later to complete the family
You could always find her at mass early on Sunday morning with all 9 kids in tow
Her and Mike raised their family with faith as their guide
counting offertory or volunteering for the Fall Festival
worked at the Food Shelf and would lend a hand to anyone in need
Her family sparked a journey that would take her and Mike to gyms
ball fields and other activities across southern Minnesota and surrounding states
Bea was always front and center cheering and clapping but was back to just “Mom” by the time she arrived home
she never lost sight of the true value of it all which was growth through the losses and the victories
she continued with the same spirit chasing her grandkids and checking in on her great grandkids
Her grandkids adored her as she made them all feel special
always acknowledging birthdays and messaging them all during life’s special events
Bea and Mike would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 10
Her identity tied together by the thing she held most dear
After graduating from Waldorf High School Bea landed a job as a legal secretary with Iversen Law Firm at the age of 18
Bea occupied a seat on main street Waseca for 64 years
She truly loved her job and received great joy helping people navigate the legal obstacle course they faced
and her presence was a great marketing tool for the 3 lawyers that hired her
She found energy and strength in her many friends and loved to connect the dots of who is related to whom that left all of us with a smile
Her joy of friendships and relationships was always present
her identity tied together by the many people she helped during happy and difficult life events
Owen O’Brien and Grace Solheid; siblings
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother
none of this happens without our dad- Her one true love through it all
Recently reassuring us all that she was good and that we’d be fine
she said “but it will go on.” Giving once again

Beatrice High School team up for weekly radio showA radio station and high school in Southeast Nebraska are combining two valuables in experience and education.Thursday
- A radio station and high school in Southeast Nebraska are combining two valuables in experience and education
KWBE radio in Beatrice has been working with Beatrice High School to give students from a journalism class hands on experience to host a live
“This is a program that KWBE and BHS administration talked about a few months ago
about the idea of giving students an opportunity to learn about radio and journalism,” Dave Niedfelt
so that’s where we’re at now.”
Dave Niedfelt is the Program Director KWBE and lends a helping hand each week
The idea for the program began when KWBE General Manager Brad Achtemeier heard of a similar program in an Omaha school district at a broadcasting convention
Journalism and English Teacher Kathryn Glenn said students’ preparation for the show
even before the usual script construction and lining up of interviews
began long before the microphone was first turned on
“They were excited and we listened to KWBE ahead of time in class,” Glenn said
“I think a lot of kids listen to music
but maybe not the radio as much anymore so it was fun and educational to listen to our local station.”
The show consists of typical radio duties like transitioning in and out of songs
and also includes a weekly interview segment each week
Niedlfelt says these types of opportunities are important for the station to strengthen their community ties
“The idea of letting these students come in and talk about the activities they’re involved with in the school and the successes happening at the high school right now,” Niedflet said
and I think there’s a lot of potential for this show down the road.”
Every time someone goes on the air for the first time
there’s sure to be some butterflies
Niedfelt says students are brought in about 15 minutes ahead of show time to adjust to the studio and get familiar with the microphone before going on air
“They’ve done really well,” Niedfelt said
anytime you put a microphone in front of someone
whether you’re a student or an adult
but these students have done really well.”
students are getting valuable hands-on experience outside of the classroom
“I think when you make education more relevant to students and they can see how they use what they learn in the classroom out in the real world
I think it’s really important.”
Two more episodes of the BHS radio show can be heard at 3:30 the next two Wednesday’s in May

which was hosted by Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas and Isabella Branson
During their discussion on the Lessons From Our Mothers podcast
Eugenie and Beatrice only praised their mother Sarah Ferguson for giving them a perfect childhood and failed to mention the Duke of York even once
Andrew was seemingly snubbed by his daughters because he made headlines last month due to Chinese spy controversy
“So I said at the beginning she's so spontaneous and full of joy bubbles
She taught us how to be Table Manners A and Table Manners Z - so we’d go between the two and we’d know what the boundaries were.”

Eug and I love each other so much but mum really instilled in us this sense that we always had each other especially as sisters - she's very close with her sister who actually lives in Australia
She also revealed one thing her mother would be so "proud" of
“She’d be most proud of our relationship. The relationship that Eug and I have
but also the relationship we have with her and how sacred that is."

(News Channel Nebraska) - An abandoned manufacturing facility burned in Beatrice overnight on Friday
Crews responded to a fire at the former Dempster Manufacturing plant around 9:15 p.m
Beatrice Fire and Rescue immediately recalled all off-duty personnel to help in response
The fire department initially posted on social media and said
“the situation is under control and contained to a small area.” The department later updated the post to say
Photos and video from the scene showed the plant completely engulfed with flames shooting several stories high out of the roof
the brunt of the blaze seemed largely under control
Only a couple of vehicles and a dozen or so firefighters remained on the scene
Police had the whole region around Sixth Street cordoned off
warning bystanders when they got too close to the main burn site
The facility dates back to 1878 when Charles Dempster started the Dempster Mill Manufacturing company
It primarily built windmills until eventually shifting to water pumps
The facility has been abandoned for years and has been condemned
the city had acquired about half of the property and had demolished two of the buildings on site
City officials had been working for years with the Environmental Protection Agency to remove contaminates from the site
it wasn’t blowing across town,” Beatrice Fire Chief Brian Daake said
they’ve been in and cleaned out the hazardous material they could so the chemicals weren’t present like they were 5-10 years ago.”
Daake said a number of potential causes of the fire are on the table and a Nebraska State Fire Marshall is investigating
No injuries occurred to those battling the blaze
Beatrice received help from Beatrice Rural Fire
who worked to prevent ember fires from the wind and an aerial assistance from Fairbury
it takes more than that for a fire of this size,” Daake said

A section of highway 77 near the blaze remained closed from Perkins and Caldwell streets

Highway 136 south to the Rockford State Recreation Area is now open
The badly conditioned asphalt stretch was resurfaced and had paint stripes applied a week ago
"We shouldered it on Monday....they fine dressed it on Tuesday
get some rain on it...and then in the next week or two
dress it up again and seed it....getting prepped for the Cattlemen's Ball."
officials were hoping to tap Nebraska Game and Parks Commission funding to resurface the asphalt road extending around the east side of Rockford Lake….but Gage County Highway Superintendent Mark Kuhnke says that plan has been put on hold for about a year
they're stating that they're broke
and it's very limited funds...is going out to the Calamus project out west
All the other projects have been shut down."
Gage County Board members got an update on work to complete several culvert projects in the north and west areas of the county
by Vogtscapes. Owner Tim Vogt says a significant amount of work has been done
"We're still wanting to ask for a June first completion date...and we would be alright paying liquidated damages after that
I do think we're going to run a weekend June 1st with the concrete cure and everything else....just to be completely honest with everybody."
The work was initially scheduled to be completed last fall
but county officials granted an extension until May 1st…..with an additional one-month extension granted recently
