(WTOC) - A sperm whale that washed ashore on Hilton Head Island on Sunday has been euthanized
According to Hilton Head Island’s Facebook page
experienced marine mammal teams sedated and euthanized the whale late Sunday night
The equipment that was used was sourced from Florida and administered by a veterinarian from the University of Florida
The whale was believed to be a juvenile and severely emaciated
The Facebook post goes on to say that the whale likely drifted hundreds of miles before washing ashore
A necropsy will be performed to help scientists learn the cause of the whale’s death
A juvenile sperm whale that beached on the shores of Hilton Head Island was euthanized Sunday night
likely drifted hundreds of miles before finding its way to the Hilton Head shoreline
Officials said sperm whales often beach themselves when they are seriously ill or injured
including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and marine mammal specialists
“We understand how difficult this is to witness, and we appreciate the community’s compassion and patience,” the town said in an update on Facebook
The town said euthanasia was determined to be the most humane option for the whale
but they needed more euthanasia medication from out of state due to the size of the animal
The whale was euthanized by a veterinarian Sunday night with specialized equipment sourced from Florida
"A necropsy will be performed to help scientists learn from this loss and better understand the challenges marine mammals face
The whale will be respectfully buried following that process."
"Thank you to everyone who showed up with compassion
and care — both in person and through your messages," the town posted on Facebook
"These moments remind us of the power of community and our shared responsibility to protect the natural world."
A whale that beached itself on Hilton Head Island on May 4 has been euthanized
which officials have identified as a juvenile sperm whale
was sedated and euthanized the night of May 4
Calling the whale’s death "a peaceful and humane passing after a long journey," officials said a veterinarian from the University of Florida euthanized the whale
Experts will perform a necropsy to determine how the mammal died
How did the whale get to the beach?News of the whale first made its rounds on social media the morning of May 4
The whale was still alive that morning and experts were trying to keep the animal comfortable
the Town of Hilton Head Island Government said
The Town of Hilton Head Island Government said on social media that the whale was "severely emaciated," and likely drifted for hundreds of miles before it made it to the Hilton Head shoreline
whales typically beach themselves because they are seriously hurt or sick
euthanasia has been determined to be the most humane option," officials wrote
adding that the type and amount of euthanasia medication needed for the whale needed to be brought in from Florida
Beached whale is part of a vulnerable speciesThe International Union for Conservation of Nature, or the IUCN, considers sperm whales a vulnerable species. Species categorized as vulnerable face high risk of extinction in the wild
The sperm whale was also listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act and depleted under the Marine Mammal Protection Act
according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Sperm whales have extremely large heads that make up about one-third of their total body length
There are usually between 20 and 26 large teeth on each side of the whale’s lower jaw
while the teeth in the upper jaw typically don’t break through the gums
Male sperm whales can measure 60 feet in length, while smaller females can measure 37 feet, per the Marine Mammal Center
They are the largest of toothed whales and have one of the biggest global distributions of any marine mammal species
Their names are derived from the waxy substance in their heads
The substance is an oil sac that helps the whales focus sound
making sperm whales a primary target for commercial whaling between 1800 and 1987
The species is still recovering but numbers are likely increasing
and they can dive to over 10,000 feet for over 60 minutes
sharks and other fish that are typically found deep within the ocean
Most female sperm whales form bonds with other females in their families
social units are made up of about 12 females and their calves
Females tend to stay with their social units their entire lives
but males leave between the ages of 4 and 21 years old
Officials in Hilton Head who cared for the beached whale thanked the NOAA for its help. Local officials also thanked Amber Kuehn, executive director of Sea Turtle Patrol
a nonprofit that monitors and supports sea turtle nesting activity on Hilton Head Island beaches
and the Town’s Beach Operations Manager Mike DeMaria and his team were instrumental in responding once the whale became beached on the island

hyper-localized experiences over traditional opulence
“NoMad is built on the concept of a hotel as a welcoming home filled with stories
where every detail – from its interiors and rich visual appeal to its thoughtfully curated dining experiences – comes to life,” said Andrew Zobler
NoMad Singapore is part of a broader vision led by UOL Group
The project will develop alongside UOL’s luxury residences: Upperhouse at Orchard Boulevard
forming what UOL Chief Executive Liam Wee Sin calls a “luxury lifestyle trio” meant to reimagine the area as a high-end cultural and residential hub
Talking about the rise of branded residences, lifestyle hotels, and flexible spaces that blend work, play, and community in Asia Pacific, Nihat Ercan, CEO of JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group, Asia Pacific, had told Skift earlier
“Guests today want more than a room — they want connection

Bentley, Celebrities
Paris Hilton’s $500k pink Bentley is the ultimate Y2K Barbie dream ride
and another $280,000 was spent at West Coast Customs to give it a makeover
With a glitter dashboard and her initials in rhinestone
this car screams affluence – and in the words of the former reality TV star – it’s ‘hot’
EXPLORE SBX CARS – Supercar auctions starting soon powered by Supercar Blondie
Celebrities’ cars often say a lot about them
You take a tall guy like Shaquille O’Neal, and what do you get?
Big cars
Kim Kardashian likes things coordinated, so she had all of her cars spray painted grey to match her house.
Michael Jackson had extravagant taste, and his Rolls-Royce Seraph matched that.
so it only makes sense that her car would match that image
Hilton has been seen with her pink Bentley for years
She reportedly bought it back in the late 2000s and had it customized by West Coast Customs
whether it be on Instagram or on the cover of magazines
The car was already pink when she bought it
but she added some additional touches that screamed ‘Paris Hilton owns this car’
How do you make a pink Bentley stand out even more
plastering the PH logo all over the place certainly helps – and putting it into rhinestones wouldn’t hurt
The dashboard is encrusted in diamante (a diamond simulant
used for adornment) and that’s not all – the gear shifter is covered too
the car’s value was boosted to up to half a million
Not that Hilton is worrying about the pricetags
She is also something of a gearhead herself

Have you ever literally laughed out loud when you opened the door to your hotel room
During my Aer Lingus & Iberia A321XLR adventure
and decided to stay at the Hilton Dublin Airport (more on that in a bit)
I was told “thanks for being a Diamond
we’ve upgraded you to a suite.” “That’s very kind
Below is what the living room looked like (if you can even call it that)…
Of course I get what’s going on here
and the idea is that the living room can be configured to accommodate more guests
there were some other things I found to be odd
and they had “spikes,” presumably to keep birds away
in terms of not even being able to crack a window open
The shower setup also left a little to be desired
But then when I wrote about what I had booked
several of you warned me not to say at this property
Unfortunately I found the choices to be very limited — the Hyatt Centric was sold out
the two popular Marriotts were charging 800 EUR per night
I decided I’d just stick with the Hilton
sometimes it’s fun to review a not-great property as well
the Hilton Dublin Airport is more than a little outdated
and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it
I was grateful to receive a suite upgrade at the Hilton Dublin Airport on account of my Hilton Honors Diamond status
since suite upgrades aren’t necessarily that consistent with Hilton
the room setup left a little to be desired
the two extra beds didn’t exactly do a whole lot for me
since I was caught off guard when I opened the door
What’s the most unusual room upgrade you’ve received
Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value"
I've stayed there a few times as a Diamond
and last time got a suite like yours - though the extra beds weren't made up
They were just pushed back against the walls leaving a huge open space - no table or whatever
The hotel's main advantage is that it's usually cheaper than the on-airport hotels
but the downside is that if you want a cab from the airport the drivers get a bit annoyed
A man used to beg between at the cars at the traffic lights outside for money for an operation
A video came out then of him walking normally the same day he was begging and he hadn't been seen since
More and more frequently the "upgrades" I receive is not suites of any kind but the same room I booked from one side of the building to another side (not even necessarily a side with decent views) or a few floors higher and still the same room
My worst upgrade was at Marriott Vancouver airport which is nearly 15 minutes away from yvr by car
The general manager emailed me to say how please..
I’ve stayed three times at this property and echo all the comments
The latest stay I couldn’t resist and unload on all the issues I faced at each of those stays
1) This hotel does not offer wash cloths just bath towels and oversized hand towels
I asked why in my review and was told: “if you want wash cloths you need to ask for them
We don’t place them in the room to cut down on laundry” WTF?!?
2) You can only have ALL the lights on or off
There is no way just to have a side light next to the bed on to read
we are aware of this but have limitations on each room’s electrical system and we are looking into this.” Wow
that gives me comfort sleeping in this electricity challenged building
All three stays I had to contact Hilton Honors to get my points and nights credited
Received a “We are sorry you had to do this” reply
this is one of the least offensive properties at Dublin Airport
I will try the Radisson next time around and forgo my Honors Points
Am I the only one not caring so much about large rooms (suites) instead of well designed ones
A 20sm room that is tastefully furnished is much better than some 100sm suite with beds in the living room(?!)
Even if it’s just a Hilton I wouldn’t have been happy about the upgrade
I think Lucky goes to sleep at 8pm so 3:30am is a full night for him
Plus he has lounges to review before they get busy
It'd be quite interesting to have @Ben go out and about and review other places (in addition to lounges
I stayed at the Hilton Suites in the NW Chicago suburbs a few years back
I got Diamond upgraded to a conference suite - by which I mean
I had what was otherwise a standard one bedroom suite that had a giant alcove with an entire 12-person conference table just off the main living space
Not sure how common that is but it’s the weirdest I’ve seen
but of course western idiots will pay out the a$$ thinking its a good deal..
excellent breakfast and a good option to use a free night certificate or book via Amex FHR
is directly across the river from Temple Bar
Suite upgrades are not a myth created by self anointed gurus
Now if only OMAAT tested the late checkout
Sounds like they had it set up for someone who needed that config and canceled
I've had things like Embassy Suites or a Hilton suite putting me in the room that has a conference table instead of a living room
Which I was fine with given I only had like 8 hours in the room overnight
I've been given a room in a Four Points that was basically three rooms combined into one..
I've been given a room in a Four Points that was basically three rooms combined into one big floor area (with odd shelf-less closets where two of the bathrooms would be) with a small living room set up in one corner
and this massive "dance floor" size area in the middle empty except for a 4x4 table with 4 kitchen type chairs that looked wildly out of place
I just converted the sofa back to a couch (which takes literally 3 seconds)
problem solved and I enjoyed the upgrade :) The bathroom is another story
what exactly is unusual they just forgot to revert the set up
Presumably as you said it is usually booked by families
Ive seen such "sofa beds" in Europe a few times actually
That's the point they are easy to move around
(If you must stay in the vicinity of the airport
the Radisson would have probably been a better choice - a few minutes walk from the terminals
and when you combine it with lack of a relevant loyalty program for me
DCS has made good on his bid adieu from this website after his relentless (and fallacious and futile) attempts to convince us all that a Hyatt points and Hilton points are of equal value
he did make a good and underreported note that all hotel loyalty programs are effectively 10-15% cash back schemes
if you earn and burn points exclusively through hotel stays
then Hilton and Hyatt points are in fact equal
Unfortunately he was willfully ignorant to the fact that we earn points in other ways
and when we have the choice to transfer a Chase UR point to Hyatt or Hilton
the choice is tantamount to asking whether you want pro bono representation from Skadden or from DLA Piper
I have stayed multiple times at this property
truthfully for what other options one can get close to the airport with shuttle is very limited - therefore
for me as long as it's clean and ok for a quick one night stay - I am not going to complain
The only complain I have of this property (and those around) are the crazy asking rates
our Hilton fanboy in chief will probably show up and call “fake news” your review
He keeps boasting about his 6 PM late checkouts and “almost always” suite upgrades
outdated family room hilariously mislabeled as a “suite”
is certainly not the type of rooom a Lifetime Diamond member like DCS would get
@Stanley Yeah the fake news is the 6 pm checkouts and almost always suite upgrades
I usually get 1 pm at best and even then they are acting like they did you a solid

An excavator prepares to bury a grave for a sperm whale that washed up along a Hilton Head beach
A sperm whale beached itself on Hilton Head Island on May 3
a marine mammal biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
was one of more than a dozen scientists helping to conduct a necropsy on a beached sperm whale on Hilton Head Island May 5
who was euthanized by veterinarians after it was determined to be too emaciated to survive
A sperm whale beached on Hilton Head over the weekend was euthanized by officials overnight Sunday
Crews worked May 5 to bury the whale on the beach
HILTON HEAD ISLAND — A somber, curious crowd of beachgoers gathered early May 5 to take in an unusual sight among the umbrellas and lounge chairs. The body of a male sperm whale lay beside an excavator, dragged several meters from the spot it had beached itself two days prior
Scientists and volunteers from multiple agencies worked beneath the hot sun to cut and collect samples from the body
hoping to understand what caused the seemingly ill marine mammal to meet its unlikely end on a Hilton Head mid-island beach near the Marriott Grand Ocean Resort
Experts rushed to its side soon after it came ashore
They determined that the emaciated 31-foot
20-ton animal was too sick or injured to navigate the waters it once patrolled
Returning to sea could mean becoming chum for sharks
As a veterinarian from the University of Florida traveled across state lines to sedate and euthanize the whale
splashing it with water and covering its dark grey body with towels
Determining cause of death could take time
"We could tell from the beginning that it wasn't in good health because it was very skinny," said Clay George
South Carolina's marine stranding permit holder, the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network
coordinated the response with NOAA and other state agencies
Sperm whales spend their days traveling in pods
diving thousands of feet underwater in mere minutes to chomp on squid
Sometimes they can mistake plastic or other marine debris as prey
But scientists could not immediately determine why the animal headed to the resort island shores
Sperm whales typically traverse deep waters
which are more than 100 miles from Hilton Head
"It's really strange that it was in this shallow-water area," marine biologist Amber Keuhn said
There is a scant history of whale beachings in South Carolina
In 2012, several whales navigated to Palmetto State beaches
A 13-foot short-finned pilot whale was stranded in northern Beaufort County in a Hunting Island marsh
Another whale was found dead about a half-mile away in the Story River
A 15-foot whale washed up on Edisto Island
a mass-stranding event occurred on Kiawah Island outside Charleston
The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network typically sees a whale beaching every one to two years
finding themselves stranded on South Carolina coast between 50 to 60 times per year
it's exceptionally rare to see a beached sperm whale
Caution tape sectioned off a wide section of beach
Dozens of representatives from responding agencies worked in an organized flurry of activity
Sharp knives were used to cut into the body as scientists peeled back layers of blubber in search of answers
"It smells like the ocean," an onlooker said
There's no glaring indication of what made the whale ill
"I think it’s important for people to realize
executive director of the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network
we’re here to make them comfortable and learn as much as we can."
The whale that found its way to Hilton Head
was buried above the tide and along the dunes
Its indentation would be swept away by the next high tide
there will be no indication that this happened," George said

It was a long time coming for Hilton in the trendy luxury/lifestyle hotel space, where lodging companies have been crowding into either on their own or through brand acquisition. Last April, Hilton announced it had acquired a controlling interest in Sydell Group and with it the NoMad brand
Hilton said it expected to grow the brand to as many as 100 hotels
Hilton said it has reached an agreement with UOL Group to open a 173-room NoMad hotel in Singapore by 2027
located on Orchard Road in the city’s prime shopping and entertainment center

where every detail – from its interiors and rich visual appeal to its thoughtfully curated dining experiences – comes to life
The signing of our first hotel in Singapore marks an exciting introduction of our brand to Asia Pacific,” said Andrew Zobler
“This debut is just the beginning as we seek out the best destinations to introduce NoMad
with several deals in advanced discussions in destinations in North America
UOL Group Chief Executive Liam Wee Sin said
“We are excited to introduce NoMad to Singapore as part of our placemaking vision for Orchard Road
NoMad makes guests feel like locals in the world’s most sought-after neighborhoods and the Orchard Road precinct offers that luxury lifestyle space.”
“NoMad Singapore will bring together modern elegance and the city’s dynamic cultural energy
offering a distinct experience that reflects the brand’s character
We look forward to making NoMad a standout presence in the market
delivering exceptional stays that go beyond traditional luxury and resonate with discerning travelers.”
The signing of the NoMad hotel in Singapore is another step
to grow its luxury footprint to 150 hotels in the Asia-Pacific region

Customers who want to earn travel rewards via a credit card but don’t need the specificity of Hilton benefits may prefer to choose a flexible rewards card instead
American Express Membership Rewards partners with Hilton Honors
You can exchange your Membership Rewards for Hilton Honors points at a 1:2 ratio with a minimum of 1,000 points
Bilt Rewards members may also convert their points to Hilton Honors at a rate of 1:1
Since Hilton Honors points are generally considered worth less than 1 cent each
we typically don’t recommend making these transfers unless you have an immediate
Hilton Honors Dining allows you to earn additional Hilton Honors points when dining with participating restaurant partners and paying with a linked debit or credit card
Earnings range from 2 to 8 points per dollar
Link your Hilton Honors account to Lyft
and you can earn 3 points per dollar on qualifying rides
Enterprise and National earn a minimum of 500 Hilton Honors points per reservation
Virgin Atlantic points can be transferred to Hilton at a 3:20 ratio with a minimum 10,000-point transfer
That means 1,500 Virgin Points is equal to 10,000 Hilton Honors points
While pooling your points with other Hilton members won’t help you earn more points
combining your balances might help you achieve different redemptions than you could afford alone
You can pool miles with up to 10 friends and family members
Hilton sells points at a rate of 1 cent per point
Points must be purchased in increments of 1,000 Hilton Honors points
though period bonus promotions could make it worthwhile if you have a specific redemption in mind
The most interesting part of being a Hilton Honors member is the opportunity to redeem your hard-earned points toward hotel stays or other rewards
We’ve found that Hilton award nights could be available for as few as 10,000 points per night
Hilton does not publish a flat-rate award chart
so the price in points for an award night can vary the way a paid stay might
to check the cost of your preferred award stay
Hilton offers a quick and easy filter when booking your stay under “Special Rates” to view prices in points
your results will include any applicable hotels and their assorted costs
Results also display options to pay in cash or with points
helping you determine which payment type is more advantageous for that particular stay
Hilton allows members to use a combination of points and money when booking if you either don’t have a high enough balance for the stay or want to save some for a future redemption
you can zero in on the lowest-priced dates for your preferred property using Hilton’s calendar view
Another helpful tool is Hilton’s Points Explorer tool
Here you can designate the maximum number of points you’d like to redeem and the type of property you’re seeking (such as “luxury” or “all-inclusive”) and view your options on a map
This can be a good way to narrow down options if
you’re open to any resort in the Caribbean that meets your budget
Hilton offers a fifth night free on award stays if you have Silver status or higher
Booking four nights with points costs the same as booking five nights on points and applies to stays of up to 20 nights
That means you can get a maximum of four nights free on a 20-night stay
The transfer ratios are not particularly generous
so we recommend avoiding this option unless you have more Hilton points than you can use
Hilton Honors Experiences allow you to redeem points for tours and experiences
Some experiences are available at a set price while others are bid on auction-style
If you link your Hilton Honors account to Amazon.com, you can redeem rewards for Amazon purchases—500 points covers $1 in purchases
Given the sheer number of brands and properties under the Hilton umbrella
most travelers will stay with the company from time to time
Signing up for Hilton Honors is a great way to enjoy additional benefits during those stays

Personnel Announcements
Do not sell or share my personal information:
And that’s all you earn regardless of how much you spend or how long you stay
It’s not even 1,000 points per night
Hilton’s last promotion ended April 30
so there’s a month-long gap between promotions
and they’re pulling down their generosity right as it appears we’re heading into rough economic times that will likely affect hotel occupancy (and where we’d expect more generous offers to try to fill rooms)
The earning and redemption in Hilton’s program is actually the weakest among the major hotel chains
They moved some of the earning into promotions
They do promotions non-stop most of the time
And they usually do something like ‘double points’
and can even put Hilton a bit ahead of others
right when you’d expect Hilton to need to incentivize stays – even though summer is traditionally strong for stays – seems bad
The only ones really coming out ahead on this promotion compared to double points are members who do one night stays at under $100 per night
Not exactly who Hilton wants to reward the most
My grandfather used to describe something like this as ‘better than a hole in the head’
More points are better than fewer points even when it’s just 1,000 points
But there’s nothing in this offer that should encourage you to stay more with Hilton
I guess the answer to ‘why did they bother’ is so they could say they had a promotion

Gary… it’s always worth the ‘click’ (even $4-worth)
You included a nice photo of the New York Hilton Midtown… anything happen there lately
Who registers when and do they use the promo vs the people who said why bother
Not all promos are designed to generate traffic some are designed to generate info
We’ve been staying at Hiltons almost exclusively (~ 50-70 nights per year
and no Hyatts in the cities we regularly travel to) since the Amex Hilton Aspire card was launched in 2017
largely because the Aspire Diamond status plus Hilton promotion means 20-25% value back in points
There recently was a Marriott promotion on two of our non-Hilton Amex cards
tried out some Marriotts and found them to be nicer
slightly lower priced and more recently updated
With no Hilton promotion in May and this flimsy offer for June-August it’s looking like it’s time to say Bonvoyage to Hilton for the summer
An A/B test involves the random assignment
but this could be a ‘confidently incorrect’ meme
One can see why Hilton did not win (or even show up) at the Freddie Awards this year

Opinions and recommendations are ours alone
If you’re already planning travel for summer
why not get some extra points while you’re at it
Hilton Honors has a new promotion where you can earn 1,000 bonus points on every stay until mid-August
which can help you boost your points balance
Hilton has other promotions worth looking at
from the economy brand Spark to its most exclusive properties
Hilton Honors members can earn 1,000 bonus points for each stay
valid for stays completed between June 1 and August 15
Registration is required
and we suggest taking a few seconds to add the promo to your account
even if you aren’t sure you’ll stay at a Hilton property in the next few months
This promotion applies to stays until August 15
This is a worldwide promotion, so any Hilton-branded hotel worldwide will count
There’s no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn with this offer
There’s also a targeted Hilton offer here for double points on a stay within 4 months of registering; registration closes on December 31
You don’t need to rebook any existing Hilton stays that were made prior to registering for the Points Plus promo
Any registered guests with nights within the promo period will receive the bonus regardless of when a reservation was booked
We value Hilton points at 0.5 cents each
That means you’d earn $5 worth of points per stay with the 1,000 bonus points
Should you rearrange your travel plans to earn 1,000 bonus points per stay
And that’s especially true if you have to book a more expensive hotel with Hilton than a hotel from another brand
if you were planning a trip and a Hilton property aligns with that
this can be an easy way to get extra points
there are currently 3 other promotions from Hilton you should know about
You can also get 1,000 bonus points per night at new hotels or 5,000 bonus points with a stay of 3 or more nights at new properties
This offer applies to participating new and renovated hotels within the Hilton portfolio
Finally, when using points at Waldorf Astoria, LXR, and Conrad properties, you can add a complimentary fourth night to your stay
but require a 3-day advance reservation and a minimum stay of 4 consecutive nights
While it likely won’t make sense to go out of your way to earn 1,000 points
if a Hilton property fits into your upcoming travel plans
There are 3 other promotions worth considering
applying to Hilton properties that range from budget-friendly brand
to the chain’s top offerings like Waldorf Astoria

If you’re a Hilton Honors member with Gold or Diamond elite status
you’ll receive a daily credit for each night of your stay at select U.S
Hilton brands — essentially anywhere that would’ve previously offered complimentary continental breakfast
You get double the credit if two guests are registered to the room
Up to one additional guest registered to the same room receives the credit
simply charge your food and beverage purchase to your room
The credit applies whether you dine at the lobby restaurant
grab a smoothie at the café or order a glass of wine at the bar
The amount of the credit varies by hotel brand
more upscale hotel brands offer a higher credit
Maximum daily credit for two or more guests
N/A (all guests still receive complimentary breakfast)
N/A (free breakfast wasn't previously an elite status benefit)
Each credit is "use it or lose it" per night
you can’t stack a week’s worth of credits to blow on one fancy dinner
you’ll owe whatever you spend beyond the credit’s value
If you have a $25 credit but you've spent $30
you don't have to make all the charges at once
so you could spend $20 on breakfast and have $5 left for an afternoon snack

• 14 points per $1 on eligible purchases with a hotel or resort within the Hilton portfolio

• 5 points per $1 on other purchases made using the Hilton Honors Business Card on the first $100,000 in purchases each calendar year
as well as complimentary breakfasts at select hotels and room upgrades at select properties where available
Get an upgrade to Diamond if you spend $40,000 or more on the card in a calendar year
• $200 annual statement credit for eligible Hilton purchases on your card (doled out in $50 statement credits per quarter)
Earn a weekend night reward after you spend $15,000 on purchases on your card in a calendar year
such as double bonus points on all base points you earn

In a post-pandemic world where breakfast buffets vary wildly — and often fall short of expectations — Hilton’s credit allows you to take charge of your own dining experience
There's more timing flexibility: Not a morning person
Use your credit at lunch or for a late-night dessert at the bar
You might actually get a hot breakfast: Instead of the default toast-and-cereal buffet
you might put your credit toward an omelet
You have more options: You don't need to carry your wallet around — just room-charge your expenses and the credit will apply automatically
» Learn more: The complete guide to earning Hilton Honors points
When staying at the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas
you might use your daily credit on drinks at the SkyBar rather than breakfast
Though considering drinks there start at $19
the credit is only enough to cover one drink after tax and tip
While the new Hilton food and beverage credit is generally better than the former continental breakfast option
two guests using a $30 credit for a $34 breakfast buffet will still owe the $4
That can come as a surprise to folks used to fully comped breakfasts
Billing could be awkward: Unlike the old days of a breakfast voucher handed to a server
you’ll receive an actual bill — and you’re still responsible for any balance after the credit
Not all hotel establishments accept it: Some third-party restaurants operating within the hotel may not accept the credit
you might be tempted by the smell of hibachi steak wafting into the lobby from the on-site Benihana
This is just one example of a third-party restaurant that's not covered
Hotel breakfasts have evolved since the pandemic — and Hilton’s food and beverage credit is one of the best adaptations yet
While some guests might grumble about having to tip or being unable to stack credits
the added flexibility and ability to eat when and how you want can make it far more valuable than a stale croissant and weak coffee buffet
As Hilton continues expanding in 2025 — particularly across luxury and lifestyle brands — expect more travelers to benefit from this perk in more destinations around the world

20-ton sperm whale beached itself near the Marriott Grand Ocean Resort around 5 p.m
Sperm whales are a federally-protected endangered species that dive thousands of feet under the surface to catch squid
according to marine biologist Amber Keuhn who stayed with the whale overnight
Whales often beach themselves when they are seriously injured or ill so sharks can't detect their illness and prey on them as they're dying
There isn't deep water for more than 100 miles off the shore of Hilton Head Island
so "it's really strange that it was this in this shallow-water area," Keuhn said
Experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and marine mammal experts spent May 4 keeping the whale comfortable by splashing water on it and laying towels on it
Euthanasia medication is being transported from Florida, and a veterinarian from the Georgia Aquarium will euthanize the member of the largest toothed whale species late on May 4 or early on May 5, depending on when the medication arrives, according to a Town of Hilton Head Government social media post
"Euthanizing them is a humane way to go ahead with that process
It would be a disservice to push the animal back when it beaches itself and it's that weak."
Experts will perform a necropsy during the morning of May 5 to determine the whale's illness
"It's really out of the ordinary to have that species wash up here," Keuhn said
The last time a large whale washed up on Hilton Head Island was in 2014
some are better than others (and hotel stays are usually the only good redemption)

When it comes to using Hilton Honors points
there's bad news and there's good news
For the bad news: Hilton Honors points aren’t the most valuable in the travel rewards world. In fact, NerdWallet currently values them at just 0.6 cent each
But now for the good news: Hilton doles them out like candy
leaving frequent guests and credit card holders with plenty of points to use
With Hilton now operating 8,600+ properties globally (including new luxury destinations like Waldorf Astoria Osaka and Tempo by Hilton in the UK)
Smart redemptions can unlock far more value than the baseline estimate
Here’s your 2025 guide to making the most of Hilton Honors points — and which redemptions to skip
» Learn more: Hilton Honors: What you need to know
Using points to book hotel nights is still the most valuable use of Hilton Honors points
You can redeem them at any of Hilton’s properties across 24 brands
from Spark by Hilton to Conrad Hotels & Resorts
Check the “Use Points” box in the search tool
points pricing — Hilton doesn’t use a fixed award chart
these prices often switch to dollar amounts when clicking through to the room selection screen
though the point amounts are also displayed (much smaller) above the cash rate
Hilton allows award bookings for a variety room types
That's relatively unusual for a hotel rewards program — albeit delightfully so — as it provides far greater flexibility for special getaways or larger groups
Want even more space than a suite? Hilton has a unique partnership with a Florida resort complex called Evermore Orlando Resort. This vacation rental resort operates more like a hotel than a more conventional home rental (like an Airbnb)
you can earn and redeem Hilton points for stays
Once you’ve found a booking and want to know if it’s a good use of points
use NerdWallet's Hilton points calculator below to compare if you're getting a better deal when paying with cash versus points:
How does NerdWallet calculate whether it's better to book with cash versus Hilton Honors points
Use this rule of thumb: Divide the total cash price (including taxes and fees, like resort fees) by the number of points required
If you get more than 0.6 cents per point (which NerdWallet considers the average Hilton point value)
is that finding them generally requires you manually search for them
To ease this burden (somewhat), Hilton has a dedicated Points Explorer tool that lets you filter results by the number of points you actually have
Hilton Honors members with Hilton Silver status or higher get the fifth night free on all standard room award bookings
Book five nights and only pay in points for four
This benefit stacks well with dynamic pricing — making five-night stays one of the best ways to stretch your points

If you don’t have enough points for a full award
Hilton’s Points + Money slider lets you mix and match currencies
To determine whether using more points is “worth it,” pay attention to the amount of cash offset by each 1,000-point increment
You have to have at least 5,000 points in your Hilton account to use this option
so it won’t work for clearing the few remaining points rattling around in your account
Those aren't the only ways to redeem Hilton points
Hilton Honors delightfully offers many more ways to redeem points
Most of the other options offer either a terrible redemption value
are a logistical hassle to actually execute the transaction
NerdWallet generally does not recommend the following redemptions (though they are an option):
customers can use rewards points from many different programs (including Hilton Honors) to pay for purchases
log into your Amazon account through Amazon's website
and then link your Hilton Honors account to your Amazon account
Amazon's redemption rate is just 500 Hilton points per $1
which means a value of just 0.2 cent for each Hilton point
Since NerdWallet values Hilton points at 0.6 cent each
your points lose over half their value — but that's not the worst thing in the world
you’ll get more bang for your buck when booking hotel stays using Hilton points
But if you don’t have any travel plans involving Hilton (and those points would otherwise collect virtual dust)
then redeeming then for something on Amazon is better than redeeming them for nothing
no Hilton hotel redemption in mind and you don't want to bother with their low Amazon value
Hilton partners with PointWorthy to manage these transactions
the value of these transfers often isn’t the highest compared with other redemption options
but they at least put your points to work — and you'll likely feel good doing it
Hilton lets you convert points into “event vouchers,” which can be used for planning meetings and events like weddings or conferences
points transfer at a measly 25,000-points-to-$50 ratio
Most people would be better off using their points to book their honeymoon
You can use Hilton points to book cars from Alamo, Enterprise and National using a search function on the Hilton Honors site
Hilton does not publish a set value for using points this way (that we could find)
though NerdWallet's researched found a 0.21 cent per point value
booking a car on the clunky tool is kind of a pain compared with using a normal car rental search engine

Hilton partners with Lyft to both earn and redeem Hilton points when pairing your accounts
To use your Hilton points for ride sharing
you can redeem your points for Lyft credits at a rate of 0.22 cent per Hilton point
we don't hate the partnership completely as taking Lyft rides can make for an excellent way to earn Hilton points
You earn 3 Hilton points per $1 spent on Lyft rides (economy
you’ll first need to link your accounts by logging into both Lyft and Hilton

Hilton points transfer to the frequent flyer programs of numerous airlines upon which they convert to miles
then navigate over to “Preferences.” In the “preferred travel partners” section
you will need to select an airline from the list and add your member number
Airlines available for exchanging your Hilton points include: Aeromexico
» Learn more: The guide to Hilton transfer partners
Once you’ve added your airline head over to the “Exchange your Points” page
select your travel partner and from the drop down
choose the quantity of points you’re looking to exchange
though this tends to be a pretty bad redemption
which shows how you can exchange a minimum of 10,000 Hilton points and you’ll get 1,000 United miles
Since Hilton points are worth 0.6 cent each
10,000 Hilton points is equivalent to about $50
meaning that 1,000 United miles are worth $12
10,000 Hilton points convert to 1,500 AAdvantage miles
which is one of the better exchange ratios — that that's still not even close to worth it
American miles are worth about 1.7 cents each
so the ratio would have to be more like 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 to make this a decent option
these make for a bad use of your Hilton points
if you really don’t have any other use for them (and you desperately need a few more airline miles)

You can also redeem your Hilton points to purchase tickets to concerts
sports games and other events on Ticketmaster and LiveNation
log into your Ticketmaster account and attach your Hilton account to your profile
Your 500 Hilton points are worth $1 on Ticketmaster
yielding a terrible value of 0.2 cent per point
another way to amass a large number of points is to earn a sign-up bonus from a Hilton credit card
• 7 points per $1 on eligible purchases with a hotel or resort within the Hilton portfolio
which gives you a 20% bonus on Hilton Honors base points as well as a fifth night free whenever you use points to book five or more nights at a Hilton property

Hilton Honors offers a buffet of redemption options — but hotel stays are the only ones that reliably deliver value
flexible suite awards and ever-expanding luxury offerings
Hilton points remain best spent where they were meant to be: in Hilton hotels
You can redeem Hilton Honors points for hotel stays
Redeem Hilton points on their website by selecting “Use Points and Money” when checking out to book your reward with points
NerdWallet values Hilton points at 0.6 cent per point
Hilton Honors Points expire after 24 consecutive months of inactivity
like let's say the Amazon shopping option
might actually be worth while as you could buy something small on Amazon with a few points just to avoid losing all your points entirely
you can use your Hilton Honors points on Amazon
link your Hilton Honors account and get shopping
Points applied to your order will be deducted from your order total and displayed as Rewards Points in your Order Summary

Hilton points can be sent and received in a variety of ways
but not all transfers represent a good value
But what if you’re a few points short of your next big redemption
Or you’ve got loyalty points or miles in another program gathering dust
That’s where Hilton’s transfer partners come in
How to transfer other currencies into Hilton Honors points
How to send Hilton points to airline partners
How to share Hilton points with a spouse or friend
If you have an AmEx card that earns Membership Rewards points
you can convert 1,000 AmEx points into 2,000 Hilton Honors points
Transfer Ratio: 1 AmEx point = 2 Hilton Honors points
Minimum Transfer: 200 points (in 50-point increments)
Typical Transfer Time: 1 day (AmEx says up to 5 business days)
Cards that earn points which can be transferred to Hilton include:
American Express® Green Card
American Express® Gold Card
The Platinum Card® from American Express
To transfer points from AmEx Membership Rewards to Hilton
log in to your Membership Rewards account and go to the "Rewards" button on the menu
select "Transfer Points to a Loyalty Program" and you’ll be redirected to a page that lists all of the American Express transfer partners (there are many airlines plus two other hotel loyalty programs — Choice Privileges and Marriott Bonvoy)
the next page is where you’ll link the Hilton and AmEx accounts
You’ll have to provide the account information for your American Express credit card
as well as your Hilton Honors account number (so you’ll need to make an account if you don’t have one already)
you’ll get 2 Hilton Honors points for every 1 Membership Rewards point
though occasional promotions can mean more value
Point transfers must be made in 50 Membership Reward-point increments and you also have to transfer a minimum of 200 points
so this option won’t work if you’re trying to burn
Another annoying headache: American Express warns that the estimated transfer time can be up to five business days
» Learn more: The best hotel credit cards right now
The transfer ratio from AmEx to Hilton is 2:1
AmEx Membership Rewards points can also be transferred to airlines
which often result in an excellent redemption value
if you don’t plan to transfer your AmEx points to airlines and generally use your points to shop
Let’s assume you have 100,000 Membership Rewards points
Because AmEx points are worth 1.2 cents each
those 100,000 points are equivalent to $1,200
when you use American Express Membership Rewards points to reserve prepaid hotels through American Express Travel
your points are worth a paltry 0.7 cents each
translating into $700 in value toward prepaid hotels when booking a cash rate through the American Express travel portal
Now let’s assume you transfer them to the Hilton Honors program
which would convert to 200,000 Hilton Honors points
Since NerdWallet values a Hilton Honors point at 0.6 cent each
200,000 Hilton Honors points are worth roughly $1,200
What’s more, you can sometimes get an even better redemption value per point than our estimated 0.6 cent rate
especially when booking at higher-end properties
Pair that with Hilton’s fifth-night free benefit for rooms booked on points
American Express offers transfer bonuses to its airline and hotel partners
Transfer bonuses to Hilton have ranged from 20%-50%
and the most recently offered bonus to Hilton was 25% in August 2023
look out for a transfer bonus to get even more out of your AmEx points

you can convert those points to Hilton points
Point transfer ratios vary based on what country you’re in; if you live in the U.S.
you can receive 2,000 Hilton Honors points for every 1,250 Club Rewards points
Transfers must be in increments of 1,250 Club Rewards points
And don’t expect these transfers to be instant: Hilton says you should allow up to three weeks for a transfer to go through
To make the exchange, call 1-800-234-4034 or visit the Diners Club website
Three travel program partners allow you to convert their miles or points into Hilton Honors points
Hawaiian Airlines: 10,000 HawaiianMiles = 15,000 Hilton points
Virgin Atlantic: 10,000 Virgin points = 15,000 Hilton points
Amtrak: 5,000 Amtrak Guest Rewards points = 10,000 Hilton Points
However, similar to AmEx, conversions from airline and Amtrak points tend to not be as good. Take for example, the Hawaii Airlines transfer. NerdWallet values a Hawaiian Airlines mile at 1 cent
10,000 HawaiianMiles would be worth about $120
But considering 15,000 Hilton Honors points are worth $75
the value is slashed considerably when you go that route
If you don’t anticipate using those Hawaiian miles anytime soon
you might as well use those points to cover the lodging portion of a vacation
If you decide to transfer from other frequent traveler programs to Hilton Honors
log in to the program’s website or call customer service to link your accounts and convert the miles or points into Hilton Honors currency
Transferring Hilton Honors points to other travel loyalty programs generally won’t get you the best overall value
but if you can’t use the Hilton points anyway
then you might as well convert them to frequent flyer miles that you can use
Hilton Honors points convert to dozens of frequent flyer programs
here are some of the largest brands for conducting a Hilton points airline transfer
Aeromexico: 25,000 Hilton points = 6,500 Premier points
AirFrance-KLM: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Flying Blue miles
ANA - All Nippon Airways: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Mileage Club miles
Asiana Airlines: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Asiana miles
British Airways: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Avios
Cathay Pacific: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Asia miles
Delta Air Lines: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 SkyMiles
Etihad Airways: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Etihad Guest miles
Malaysia Airlines: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,200 Enrich points
Qatar Airlines: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 Privilege Club Qmiles
Qantas Airways: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,500 Qantas Frequent Flyer points
United Airlines: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,000 MileagePlus miles
Virgin Atlantic Airways: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,500 Flying Club miles
Virgin Australia: 10,000 Hilton points = 1,500 Velocity points

When logged into your Hilton account, head to the "Exchange" section to send Hilton points to partner programs
You’ll have to select the travel partner you want to send your points to
and you’ll have to add your membership information for that program to connect the accounts
The value of Hilton points varies depending on which loyalty program you transfer them into
We’ll be candid: Transferring your Hilton points to airline partners generally is a bad redemption
Take the example of transferring Hilton points to Delta
10,000 Hilton points gets you 1,000 Delta SkyMiles
But since we value 10,000 Hilton points at $50
If you seriously need to top off a frequent flyer account balance to book an otherwise great redemption
or you really don’t anticipate using Hilton points anytime soon
But if you can use Hilton points at Hilton
Can you transfer Hilton points to another person
Yes — you can use points pooling or transfers to send Hilton points to your friends
you send some of your stash to someone else with a Hilton Honors account
Go to the Hilton Honors transfers page
select how many points you want to give away
then input the account information of the lucky person receiving them
You can make no more than six transfers to other member accounts per calendar year
If you’re fine giving friends and family even greater access to your points
You can create a pool of up to 10 people to more easily share points
Hilton caps the number of Hilton points you can receive per year (via pooling and transfers combined) at two million points
you’re limited to making six points pooling transactions per calendar year
It’s free to transfer points to your friends and family
Take notes of the caps of how many transfers can be made per year
As long as you’re fine passing on your points to someone else
Making someone’s day at no other cost — worth it
Not all Hilton transfers are a great deal — and many are a bad one
But they can still be useful in a few strategic scenarios:
You’re topping off an account for a big redemption
You’re avoiding point expiration or clearing out unused travel currencies
You’re combining points with family members or a travel companion
But if you're ever transferring Hilton points to airlines or vice versa
you’re better off keeping those points where they are
