With fires still raging in Los Angeles County
the PGA Tour informed its membership on Thursday that it is monitoring the situation in regards to the upcoming Genesis Invitational
is scheduled to be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades
it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational (February 10-16)
Although The Riviera Country Club has not been directly affected by the fires
our immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected communities
including all our members who have ties to Southern California,” the Tour wrote to players in a message sent at 5 p.m
“We will keep the membership updated as the situation develops.”

confirmed on social media that the club had been destroyed in the blaze
High winds helped the fire grow across the region
Riviera Country Club, which has been selected as host venue to the men’s and women’s golf at the 2028 L.A. Olympic Games, is located in the mandatory evacuation zone implemented earlier this week. The Riv will also host the 2026 U.S

and much of the required infrastructure is already in place
The Genesis is sponsored by 15-time majors champion and Southern California native Tiger Woods.
“We are grateful to the city of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has reached out in support of the tournament,” Woods said in a statement. “While Riviera remains the home of The Genesis Invitational, we look forward to playing on another championship caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.”

The PGA Tour said in a statement that it plans for the Genesis Invitational to return in 2026 to Riviera
Debuting in 1926 at Los Angeles Country Club as the Los Angeles Open, the tournament was staged at various courses throughout the Los Angeles area before permanently settling at the Riviera Country Club in 1973. Known as the site of Jack Nicklaus’ professional debut and with 25 champions in the World Golf Hall of Fame, the tournament and Riviera have seen many major moments in golf history.

necessitating relocating the tournament from Riviera Country Club
The PGA Tour and Tiger Woods’s foundation have yet to confirm plans that the event will move to Torrey Pines in San Diego
where the Farmers Insurance Open has been taking place
Golfweek has also reported on the pending move
including PGA West near Palm Springs and TPC Scottsdale
which hosts the WM Phoenix Open the week prior to the Genesis
The $20 million tournament that is now a signature event with a limited field has been played at the iconic Riviera Country Club 60 times
the 2028 Olympic golf tournament and the 2031 U.S
But the course has been closed recently in the aftermath of considerable damage in the surrounding area that made the Tour and the TGR Foundation—which runs the event—announce last week that they would be looking for another venue.
It is unclear if the event will only be played over Torrey Pines’s South course. The Farmers tournament is played over the North and South for the first two rounds before the 36-hole cut is made.
Woods has considerable personal history at Torrey Pines, having won the PGA Tour event there eight times, the last in 2013. He also won the 2008 U.S. Open at the venue for his 14th major championship in a playoff over Rocco Mediate.
It is also the site of his last top-10 finish on the PGA Tour. He tied for ninth at Torrey Pines in 2020 in what turned out to be his second-to-last event before the PGA Tour stopped play until the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Although Woods has yet to commit to his own event, he is expected to play. He is recovering from a September back surgery and played just five times in 2024. One of them was at the Genesis, where he withdrew during the second round due to illness.
He missed the cut in three of the four major championships.
Woods, 49, returned at the exhibition PNC Championship in December with his son, Charlie, losing in a playoff in the 36-hole event to Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason.
Last week, Woods made his debut in the simulator, tech-infused TGL. He is also scheduled to play TGL on Jan. 27.
As for his own game and health, Woods said: “As far as playing, I walked all three rounds at PNC (last month), had a great time there, and the walking is not the issue. It’s my game is not very good.”
The Genesis will be the third signature event out of eight, following the Sentry in Hawaii won by Hideki Matsuyama. Next week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is also a signature event.

With the help of the Shelby County Chamber
the company officially opened its doors on Monday
explained that the opening of the restaurant fills a void in the community it serves
(when planning the new restaurant) we noticed there weren’t many Mexican restaurants in the (Pelham) area,” Vargas said
Vargas also took the time to explain the meaning of the name of the restaurant
“The name comes from a Caribbean (region) that’s one of the most beautiful in the world,” Vargas said
“We really wanted to bring a little bit of the culture and the atmosphere (to Pelham).”
Vargas also explained some of the restaurant’s signature dishes that customers can get excited for
emphasizing the preparation process for La Gran Riviera’s food
“The enchiladas and all the sauces are 100 percent made by hand,” Vargas said
“They’re not bottled sauces… everything is authentic.”
a dish exclusive to the restaurant which is a combination of grilled chicken
shrimp and chorizo over a bed of rice topped with cheese sauce
“Pretty much everything we make from scratch,” Vargas said
We don’t have stuff that we keep overnight… it’s got to be fresh to taste good.”
Vargas emphasized La Gran Riviera has plenty of options for alcoholic beverages as well
“Our margaritas all (contain) fresh-squeezed lime juice,” Vargas said
We have a Tequlia Mule and a Cantarito… they’re all signature drinks
Vargas wants to cultivate a space that is welcoming to families across Pelham and beyond
“We just want everybody to come in and forget about the outside world when they’re in here
just to relax and enjoy the meals and the drinks.”

the PGA Tour is moving next month’s Genesis Invitational to a to-be-determined location the week of Feb
the longtime home to the event in greater Los Angeles
has been spared damage by the fires but the club itself is closed and the surrounding area has suffered significant hardship
“The PGA Tour’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” the Tour said in a statement
“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of the first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires
and out of respect for the unfolding situation
we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of Feb
A venue update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.”
The tournament, won last year by Hideki Matsuyama after a final-round 62
is one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events and has a $20 million purse and a limited field
Tiger Woods is the tournament host and it benefits his TGR foundation
With no open dates on the schedule prior to the FedEx Cup playoffs, it was unlikely that the tournament would be postponed
And canceling it was also not deemed to be likely given the revenue such a tournament produces for the Tour and the charities involved via television rights fees and sponsorship fees
Moving it to another location—just a month out—will be a challenge
The Tour has potential options in playing consecutive weeks at TPC Scottsdale
where the WM Phoenix Open precedes the Genesis
As could the venue for next week’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines
No Tour representatives have publicly discussed any ideas. Nor did Woods
when asked on Tuesday night after competing in the TGL
we’re just trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward,” Woods said
we’re not really focused on the tournament
It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling
who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.”
is where Woods made his PGA Tour debut in 1992 as an amateur
The iconic venue will also host the 2026 U.S
the 2028 Olympic golf tournament as well as the 2031 U.S
The statement said that the Tour is “identifying the most impactful ways the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts.” And it has a charitable aspect set up.
The Sun rises over homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles
Tiger Woods and Max Homa of the Jupiter Links Golf Club react as they fall behind the Los Angeles Golf Club
Charred vehicles are illuminated by utility lights at homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles
Still to be determined is where the $20 million signature event
One option is another golf course that already is part of the West Coast Swing — away from Los Angeles — which would limit the costs and hours required to build out a tournament site with everything from grandstands to corporate hospitality to television structures
which sits just south of Sunset Boulevard and about 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean
was not damaged in the fires that have killed at least 25 people and destroyed more than 12,000 structures
The tour has resisted any decision until some movement had been made on containing fires
It decided to relocate in collaboration with title sponsor Genesis
The announcement of a new venue is expected in the coming days
“The PGA Tour is identifying the most impactful ways the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts,” it said in a statement
encouraging people to help with support on its website
Riviera was founded 99 years ago and has hosted U.S
and the golf competition for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
Open in 2031 for the first time since 1948
This will be the first time what previously was called the Los Angeles Open is not at Riviera since 1998
when it was held at the TPC Valencia because Riviera was preparing to host the U.S
The tournament was first held at Riviera in 1929
Woods has an exemption to play any of the signature events this year
The Genesis Invitational is the only non-major he has played on the PGA Tour schedule since his 2021 car crash
He said on Tuesday during his TMRW Golf League debut
“We’re trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward.”
who’s lost homes and had their lives changed,” he said
Riviera is located in the Pacific Palisades area
which has been experienced most of the devastation of the fires that began on Jan
Although the golf course itself has emerged undamaged
water and public transportation has been interrupted and emergency services such as police
The tournament is co-sponsored by Tiger Woods’ company
we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of Feb
“A venue update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.”
The Tour statement also praised first responders and said the Tour “is identifying the most impactful ways the tournament can support the Los Angeles community and the ongoing relief efforts.”
The Tour has set up a website fans can engage, pgatour.com/Support LA.
”The PGA Tour’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” the statement said
“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.”
There have been numerous possibilities floated in recent days
The Tour could return to the La Quinta Country Club
one of the courses in the American Express rotation this week in Palm Springs. The Tour also could return to Torrey Pines near San Diego
where the Farmers Insurance Open is being played next week
Another course near San Diego is the La Costa Country Club
the former venue for The Sentry in the 1990s.The Sherwood Country Club
has hosted off-season Tour events in the past
notable Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge before it moved to the Bahamas. The Tour also could elect to play two weeks in a row at the TPC Scottsdale
where the WM Phoenix Open is scheduled Feb
6-9.Another course outside California that could be considered is Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. This report was updated with new information
The PGA Tour announced Friday that it is relocating the Genesis Invitational from Riviera to Torrey Pines’ South Course in the wake of the devastating wildfires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area
will host two Tour events in a four-week span
as it is currently staging the Farmers Insurance Open
the Tour’s third $20 million signature event of the season
It will be played only on the South Course
annually one of the most difficult stops on Tour
is an inspired choice for the Genesis’ tournament host
is expected to join this year’s limited field
The Tour said that this year’s Genesis will have several Los Angeles-related relief initiatives
“While Riviera remains the home of the Genesis Invitational,” Woods said
“we look forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area.”
Inset image shows just how close LA fires came to Riviera CC earlier this week
The PGA Tour sent an memo out on Thursday in relation to the Genesis Invitational - which is set to be hosted by Riviera Country Club next month
the PGA Tour said it is too early to discuss how next month's Genesis Invitational will be affected by ongoing fires in Los Angeles
16 people are confirmed to have died as a result of this week's fires and more than 150,000 residents have been put under evacuation orders
with 37,000 acres of land having already been destroyed by the flames
the Palisades fire has already been labelled the most destructive in the city's history
And despite Los Angeles County declaring a public health emergency earlier this week
warning that smoke and particulate matter could pose immediate and long-term threats
the PGA Tour stated that an update on its next Californian event will not arrive until the situation in LA is much more stable
In a memo sent out to its members on Thursday
it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational
“Although The Riviera Country Club has not been directly affected by the fires
We will keep the membership updated as the situation develops.”
Disruption has already been felt in other sports
with multiple NBA games in the area postponed this week and the LA Rams' NFL home playoff clash against the Minnesota Vikings moved from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood
California to the Arizona Cardinals' State Farm Stadium in Glendale
As fire-relief efforts start and continue in the coming days and weeks, PGA Tour golfer, Sahith Theegala has announced that he will play his own part by raising money for charities helping those deal with the destruction throughout the entire West Coast Swing
the World No.13 - who grew up in the Los Angeles suburb of Chino Hills
California and attended Pepperdine University - said that he would donate $100 for every birdie he made and $250 for every eagle carded at the Sony Open in Hawaii this week
Theegala has since vowed that he will extend his charitable efforts through at leas the next four tournaments - five if the Genesis Championship does indeed take place as planned
the 27-year-old said: "Gonna be continuing this for the whole West Coast swing
realized making birdies and eag(le)s is hard
Any little bit helps during this devastating time.”
Riviera CC remains inside the evacuation zone but has reportedly been unaffected by the fires as further strong Santa Ana winds blow the blaze east
The Genesis Invitational will be held at a new location in 2025 following the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area
The event previously known as the Los Angeles Open has been held at the Riviera Country Club
The country club is located near the Palisades fire. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner announced Thursday that 27 people have died in the Southern California fires in recent days
“The PGA TOUR’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” the PGA Tour said in a statement
What courses could Genesis Invitational consider? With the Riviera Country Club out of consideration for the upcoming event
we have determined that The Genesis Invitational 2025 will be played at an alternate location the week of Feb
There have been 11 different host courses used throughout the history of the tournament
but none have been used more than The Riviera Country Club
The club was first used in 1929 for the first time and has been used 60 times for the event
All but one of the 11 courses remain open and could be considered possibilities for the 2025 event
The Valencia Country Club was the last course used outside of the Riviera Country Club in 1998
Design and decor go a long way toward establishing the ambience of a hotel, and Paradisus La Perla Riviera Maya is a perfect example
During my recent three-night stay at this adults-only all-inclusive resort
I was captivated by the property’s upscale vibe
modern-yet-inviting decor and ideal balance of indoor and outdoor public spaces
Semi-enclosed walkways in the main building wrap around koi-filled ponds that are accented with eye-catching modern sculptures
and the pristinely landscaped grounds are graced with multiple swimming pools
this is a decidedly photogenic property — and it’s quickly become one of my favorite hotels in Playa del Carmen
Recent renovations to 49 suites in The Reserve
have made Paradisus La Perla Riviera Maya an even more appealing option for travelers looking to combine the convenience of the all-inclusive concept with the comfort of a luxury hotel — not to mention the proximity to all that Playa del Carmen has to offer
Guests at Paradisus La Perla Riviera Maya have the luxury of choice
especially because — in addition to dining at multiple restaurants in the adults-only section — they can also access restaurants
entertainment and other features of the family-friendly Paradisus Playa del Carmen Riviera Maya
since that section has some of its own exclusive options
where I treated myself to delicious spanakopita and lamb
Guests at The Reserve are also entitled to one meal at Sal
(Other hotel guests pay extra for meals there.)
I also enjoyed access to an exclusive lounge that offers snacks
drinks and attentive concierge service; my attendant was always good about checking in on me via WhatsApp
and he efficiently arranged all my dinner reservations — I never had to make a phone call or even visit the concierge desk
Another culinary highlight during my visit was a tasty dinner at Tokimeku
an adults-only Asian fusion venue that has teppanyaki tables in private rooms
a sushi bar and standard restaurant seating in an upscale atmosphere
I also enjoyed lunch at two of the resort’s buffet restaurants — Naos
Other adults-only options at Paradisus La Perla Riviera Maya include Lemon Fish
a Latin fusion eatery; Kicks Sports & Fun Bar; and Fahrenheit
culinary options include Italian fare at Cappella
handmade ice cream at Twe12lvet and Asian fusion specialties at Tori
Paradisus is one of the all-inclusive brands that has begun offering off-property experiences at no extra charge; in this case, the concept is called Destination Inclusive
and this is a wonderful opportunity for guests to enjoy a wider array of activities
guests staying in superior-designated rooms can sign up for a free outing to a cenote — the giant sinkholes that are some of the region’s most beautiful natural attractions — for a yoga class
offers a variety of therapy treatments and services
(The water ritual hydrotherapy experience is included at no extra charge for guests staying at The Reserve.)
Live nightly entertainment is another big draw; shows vary widely
ranging from mariachi performances to acrobatic shows
Travelers looking to celebrate special moments may also be interested to hear about Paradisus La Perla Riviera Maya’s convention center
which can host as many as 2,000 people for meetings
The hotel is well-versed in serving diverse clientele
with South Asian and LGBTQ+ destination weddings among its areas of expertise
Clients can expect an array of room categories here
I found it hard to leave my spacious and handsome suite at The Reserve
which had a whirlpool tub and overlooked one of the swimming pools
was an inviting place to relax in the morning and at the end of the day
I also appreciated the moveable wall between the bathroom and bedroom
which allows guests to open up the space and enjoy the view while bathing
Additional features of The Reserve suites include seating areas
dining tables (which I found perfect for working)
a large number of well-located outlets and minifridges stocked with drinks and snacks (all of which are included)
homey touch that complements the modern decor
while new amenities by Biology are part of the recent upgrade to suites at The Reserve
Travelers looking to maximize their time in the water may want to consider booking a swim-up suite
which features similar decor but with direct access to a pool
so guests who are members of Melia Rewards can accrue and redeem points
I found Paradisus La Perla Riviera Maya to be an especially good choice in the highly competitive hotel scene in Mexico’s Riviera Maya

RAGING wildfires are threatening an iconic golf course in Southern California
Flames are burning through the Palisades and the Los Angeles area as emergency crews work to contain the fires
Tens of thousands of Californians have been evacuated from their homes as whipping winds move the wildfires across the area
they are rapidly approaching Riviera Country Club
This course is one of the most historic in the United States and is firmly in the path of the wildfire's spread
The club is now in one of the mandatory evacuation zones
"There are active fires right now up the road
"Early in the morning they let people up there
but there is now the issue of smoke inhalation so we’re not letting anybody up
They added that although the club is not on fire at the moment
Riviera is the home of the Genesis Invitational, one of the premier PGA Tour events.
that event is set to be played from February 13 to 16
Golf fans can't believe the iconic course is so close to the flames and shared their sadness on social media
Can’t believe how fast the fire is moving," a third fan said
"Those old trees in the course are going to be toast," a fourth fan said
"Golf gods must be angry," a fifth fan said
The potential destruction of Riviera is not only notable because of the Genesis Invitational but also because of two much more important events
the Olympics are coming to the United States
and Riviera is meant to host the golf event
the US Open is also slated to be played at Riviera
The PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational, which is held annually at Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, will be relocated to an alternate site in light of the deadly wildfires that have been burning for more than a week
but the PGA Tour has not yet announced the substitute location
“The PGA Tour’s focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” a statement from the PGA Tour said. “We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.
we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16
A venue update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.”
The announcement of an alternate venue for the tournament — a “signature” event on the PGA Tour — was shared with players on Thursday afternoon
which has hosted the event 60 times since 1929
has not been directly affected by the destructive fires that devastated the Pacific Palisades
the course is located close to some of the most significant damage in the Los Angeles region

“We’re trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward,” Woods said
In its statement, the PGA Tour shared a link that fans can visit to support relief efforts in the Los Angeles community

the group went by the name of Tragic Love Company
in tribute to their favourite groups: Tragically Hip
Later on they changed to their current name
under which they have notched up five number 1 albums in the UK
This is a major achievement that few bands can claim
putting them up there with the likes of The Beatles
Stereophonics seek to achieve transcendence with their songs
and many of them contain messages of protest against social injustice
Their strong social and musical commitment has even captivated Bob Dylan
who has declared himself to be a fan of the band

It's hard to pick a favorite part of La Casa de la Playa
Perched above the Riviera Maya's turquoise coastline
the crown jewel of Grupo Caret's portfolio promises luxury
each with its own private plunge pool and outdoor soaking tub carved within a boulder
I found La Casa de La Playa to be an elevated all-inclusive experience on my October visit to the resort
the first thing to greet guests (after their personal butler
of course) is the private plunge pool that comes with uninterrupted ocean views
The outdoor soaking tubs -- stone cutouts that look like they were scooped from a cenote -- invite long
And then there's the in-room jellyfish aquarium
you read that right.) Pulsating moon jellyfish lend a hypnotic glow to the room
But the real magic for me: I was not just staring at these ethereal creatures
Guests should request a behind-the-scenes tour of the resort's jellyfish lab
where they'll emerge knowing more about moon jellies than they could have possibly expected when they checked in
fascinating dive into marine biology and a neat perk of a stay at the resort
La Casa de la Playa is as much about the adventures it offers as the indulgence it provides
and I'm not just talking margaritas and in-room dining -- though
Think private dinners inside the Xcaret theme park or personalized purification rituals and private caving expeditions
I found myself up to my elbows in chocolate at the resort's chocolate-making workshop -- a deliciously decadent homage to Mexico's cacao legacy
The workshop is held in the on-site candy store
where guests can pop in 24 hours a day to fill their pockets with Mexican truffles
it was wine and Mexican food pairings curated by the resort's in-house sommelier
The cherry on top of this experience is the unlimited access to all of Grupo Xcaret's adventure parks
from Xel-Ha's snorkeling to Xplor's ziplines
Guests can also book included sailings about Xcaret Xailing to explore the islands of Isla Mujeres and Cozumel
Private transportation whisks you to and from these activities
Even in spaces designed for mass enjoyment
the La Casa de la Playa treatment has the VIP status dialed in
the signature piece is a stunning infinity pool
it's one of those cinematic wow moments to swim out toward the edge
Most guests can be found splayed out on the rounded daybeds dotted along the pool deck
Adjacent to the aquatic architecture is the Muluk Spa
a sanctuary of treatment rooms and an outdoor hydrotherapy circuit with steam showers
On the rooftop is yet another pool with expansive Caribbean Sea views
food is an important pillar of the resort's concept
But La Casa de la Playa takes it a step further
calling names like Michelin-starred Martha Ortiz and the Rivera-Rio brothers to helm restaurants
Ortiz's dishes at Tuch de Luna are an edible art
from the open-faced quesadilla piled high with mushrooms and arugula to the decadent spin on eggs Benedict atop a blue corn tlacoyo
The Rivera-Rio brothers have two restaurants here
with Centli focusing on the corn-based cuisine of southern Mexico and Lumbre highlighting the smoky desert flavors of the north
particularly for the pork belly taco topped with tuna tartare and caviar
And not to be overlooked is La Casa de la Playa's wine cellar -- a treasure trove of Mexican vintages where guests can come at any time and select a bottle to bring back to their room -- all included in the all-inclusive rate
What sets La Casa de La Playa apart isn't just its over-the-top amenities -- it's the details
From the handmade Mexican crafts that adorn the lobby and each suite to the ecoconscious design that integrates into nature

Riviera Country Club will not host next month’s Genesis Invitational
the Signature Event hosted annually by Tiger Wods
The esteemed Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, will not host this year’s Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour announced on Thursday
The reason for moving this Signature Event is quite apparent: wildfires across the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area have wreaked havoc on the region. According to NBC News, firefighters have contained only 22% of the Pacific Palisades fire
which came close to Riviera a few days ago
the famous club fell within the mandatory evacuation zone last week
and hotels to focus their efforts on supporting the displaced citizens of Southern California — not a golf tournament that is of little importance compared to the recovery efforts
“We’re not really focused on the tournament as of right now,” said Genesis Invitational host Tiger Woods on Tuesday
“There’s so many other things that are bigger than that

while almost 13,000 buildings have been lost

The PGA Tour is relocating the Genesis Invitational out of wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles
13-16 on the South course at Torrey Pines in San Diego with an emphasis on relief initiatives for victims of the fires
That gives Torrey Pines two tournaments in a span of four weeks
The tour said the $20 million signature event hosted by Tiger Woods would return to Riviera Country Club next year
but it is located in the Pacific Palisades community that has been devasted by fires that have killed 28 people and destroyed more than 14,000 structures in Greater Los Angeles since Jan
“While Riviera remains the home of the Genesis Invitational
we look forward to playing on another championship caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area,” Woods said
The announcement came as the South course at Torrey Pines was preparing for the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open
Going to the same course twice in four weeks allows the tour to take advantage of infrastructure already in place
the CEO of Century Club of San Diego that runs the Farmers Insurance Open
said tournament organizers and volunteers were ready to help even as a new group — Woods’ TGR Live — is responsible for operating the Torrey tournament in February
It was being able to be chosen to help,” Gorsich said
we compete so much with LA on the field and consider them a rival
“This is an opportunity for San Diego to come together and do something with our brothers and sisters up in LA
truly feel like that’s a part of it,” he said
“It’s about being able to give them a place to host their event and have their sense of community and keep going (with) what they need and rise above the challenge
and for us to be able to help deliver that for them
it was really exciting for us in that regard.”
Woods has not indicated if he will be playing
The Genesis Invitational is the only non-major he has played since his legs were badly injured in a February 2021 car crash in LA
Woods is an eight-time winner as a pro at Torrey Pines
He last played Torrey Pines in 2020 and tied for ninth
Torrey Pines has been part of the PGA Tour since 1968 and has hosted two U.S
“Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the need for continued support for the ongoing recovery efforts is what our collective teams are working towards with the playing of the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said
Torrey Pines twice has held tournaments five months apart when the U.S
Open was held on San Diego's fabled municipal course in 2008 and 2021
An even quicker turnaround was at Muirfield Village in 2020 when it hosted tournaments in consecutive weeks — the Workday Charity Open and the Memorial — as part of a reconfigured schedule brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic

The PGA Tour is officially moving the Genesis Invitational Tournament away from the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.
Riviera has long been the host of the Genesis as part of the PGA Tour's West Coast swing
with the tournament scheduled for its usual week
But with the devastating fires that wiped out nearly every house in the nearby Palisades
the Tour issued a statement on Thursday explaining their decision to move the tournament to an alternate site.
"The PGA Tour's focus continues to be on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles," the statement said
"We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires
we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16."

While Riviera wasn't directly impacted by the massive Palisades Fire
it's extremely close to areas of the city that entirely burned down
And with the fire still not completely contained
and massive debris clearing efforts yet to start
it makes sense that adding tens of thousands of fans each day to the area wouldn't work
Moving the tournament pales in comparison to the devastation and lives lost
but it's yet another reminder of the incompetence of both Los Angeles political leadership and California government in the lead up to these horrific events.
Instead of preparation and competent governance, LA Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom ignored requests from fire departments
and caved to environmental activists who opposed brush clearing efforts
Now an entire city is essentially destroyed
if not decades to go before it's rebuilt
potential replacement sites include La Quinta Country Club in the Palm Springs area
That course hosts the American Express tournament this coming weekend
Torrey Pines in San Diego is another potential site
Torrey has hosted the US Open several times and will be the site of the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open.
There's also the potential for back-to-back tournaments at TPC Scottsdale in the Phoenix area
The Genesis Invitational is one of the PGA Tour's signature events
Hopefully it's back where it belongs at Riviera next year

Hideki Matsuyama plays an approach during the Genesis Invitational in 2024
The Genesis Invitational will be played at a different site next month than its typical host Riviera Country Club
following the fires that have ravaged Los Angeles in the last two weeks.
The PGA Tour announced the decision Thursday afternoon, saying the Genesis Invitational will be contested “at an alternate location” over the same scheduled dates of February 10-16. The venue decision “will be provided in the coming days” the statement read.
which is hosted by Tiger Woods and the Tiger Woods Foundation
But Riviera is located in the Pacific Palisades
one of the locales hit hardest by one of the worst fires in the history of California.
The golf club was located within a mandatory evacuation zone for much of the last week
with the perimeter of the Palisades Fire coming within a couple hundred yards of the course
Video footage soon trickled out from near the club with fire and smoke raging in the background

The Palisades Fire has been the biggest of the multitude of blazes that have destroyed parts of LA County in January. The Riviera-adjacent fire has spanned more than 23,000 acres and, as of Thursday afternoon, was just 22% contained
Woods made a statement about the fires earlier this week
alluding to charitable efforts he and his foundation plan to make
he was asked about the effect it may have on the staging of the Genesis Invitational
“It’s just sad,” Woods said after his debut TGL appearance, standing next to Max Homa
I’ve known a couple people that have lost everything
we’re trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward
we’re not really focused on the tournament
It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling
who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.”
The PGA Tour has routinely brought the best golfers in the world to the country’s west coast for the first two months of the calendar year
often culminating in the Genesis Invitational in mid-February
All of which means the event will have potential homes for this 2025 iteration that are used to hosting tournament infrastructure and spectators
The last time the Genesis Invitational was held away from Riviera was in 1998
when it was hosted at Valencia Country Club north of LA
because Riviera was playing host to the U.S
the event has been held at Rancho Park in LA and Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena
but those are both municipal courses incapable of hosting a modern
There is no shortage of elite golf courses in the Los Angeles area
but given how the fires have affected huge swaths of the county
the event may need to be moved outside of the Greater LA Metro Area
