Originally developed in Woodbury as “Underwood Hospital”
the now unused Inspira-owned hospital building on Broad Street is at the beginning stages of a year-long demolition effort which is to include the main large building
as well as a second smaller Medical Arts building directly behind it
Remaining in place are the adjacent large parking garage and Woodbury Medical Center building… they are not being demolished
Construction fencing appeared this week at the Broad Street hospital property (bordered by Red Bank and Oak) which had locals questioning what was to take place at the site. 42Freeway reached out to the Inspira media team…
Inspira Health can confirm that demolition activity at our Woodbury campus is in progress and will continue through early spring 2026
This includes both our Medical Arts building and the former hospital
Inspira is committed to the safety of our patients
and we are working closely with our neighbors and local businesses to minimize any potential impact to their business during this phase of activity
the dates for demolition may be subject to change or delay
and will share updates as they become available.
A future use for the property has not been formally decided on (announced)
Possibly related to the timing of the demolition is the City of Woodbury has been looking to remove the nonprofit status of the building (or specific floors)
stating that the building is no longer used for non-profit purposes. For Inspira this would mean they would have to pay property taxes on the property and buildings
While this has not been stated as a catalyst for the current demolition activity at the building
clearly removing the significant improvements on the property (hospital buildings)
would reduce the value of the total property and likewise reduce the property tax amount paid to the City
The Woodbury Hospital building has been mostly unused since 2019 when Inspira opened their brand new $356 Million hospital in Mullica Hill
most of the Inspira 1,600 staff members moved over to the Mullica Hill hospital
but for several years the legacy Woodbury hospital building still was home to the Emergency Room and Behavioral Health Departments
Last fall those two units moved out of the main hospital building into an all-new construction two-story medical facility developed directly next to the hospital property… leaving the iconic Woodbury hospital building empty
Over recent years there has been much conversation and research into new uses for the hospital building and property
the City of Woodbury and other government entities to determine a forward plan for the Woodbury property
Some of the discussed plans focused on a simpler repurpose use of the existing building
while others offered more ambitious options including the complete demolition of the hospital to make way for all new developments
Back in 2023 42Freeway wrote about some of those considered plans
none of which have been identified as the go-to direction
Despite all of that research an official forward direction for the property has not been announced
The hospital building now being unused after the relocation of the two departments is likely a key part of the plans to demolish the building
so that Inspira can move forward with future redevelopment plans
Additionally though, New Jersey court documents show that the City of Woodbury had been looking to change the nonprofit status of the building (or at least its upper floors), which if confirmed would have meant that Inspira would have to pay property taxes on the property and the building. (NJCourts.Gov PDF)
The argument from Woodbury is that a hospital’s nonprofit status (which allows them to not pay property taxes) is only valid on properties where non-profit work is taking place within the spaces
The assessor review was originally done when the 2 units were still in the lower portions of the hospital building
and at the time the assessor determined the remaining 6 upper floors were to be assessed at full value
The Tax Court of New Jersey Opinion describes the perspective of the property’s status of both Woodbury and Inspira. (NJCourts.Gov PDF)
I’m not an attorney and don’t want to dive in much deeper on the topic… feel free to read the Opinion at the NJ Courts website
the removal of the buildings should greatly reduce the overall value of the property and reduce any property taxes (if owed)
If the long-term plan is new development for the Broad Street property
there may have been some value for Inspira in simply moving up the demolition timeline

Prosecutors allege that Dennis Wally Woodbury

slapped a male flight attendant’s butt and yelled
“I love you,” and showed another male flight attendant a pornographic picture
is charged with a felony count of abusive sexual contact within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the U.S
he faces a maximum sentence of two years in federal prison
Woodbury’s attorney, Annick Jordan, declined to comment on the case. Woodbury, who is out of custody on bond, could not immediately be reached for comment. It is unclear when Woodbury stopped working for the CHP. The U.S. attorney’s office wrote in a news release that he had “been dismissed from state service.”

A block of ice the size of a watermelon fell into an Inglewood couple’s bedroom
Woodbury was traveling in Jet Blue’s business class section from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Los Angeles International Airport when the alleged abuse occurred, according to the criminal complaint.
Before the flight left the gate, Woodbury allegedly showed a flight attendant a picture of a dog with a blurred image of two men having sex in the background. The man responded, “Oh my God,” and Woodbury laughed and said, “I was wondering how long it would take you,” prosecutors wrote in the criminal complaint.
Woodbury then suggested the two men go on a cruise together.
“When [the attendant] demonstrated how the plane’s oxygen masks worked, he saw Woodbury looking at him and made a hand pumping motion,” the complaint states.
When a different flight attendant was collecting meal trays, Woodbury used his left hand to slap the attendant’s buttocks and yell that he “loved him,” according to the complaint.
A man reportedly hit and bit other passengers during a Delta flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles, officials said, prompting police to respond Monday.
Later in the flight, the complaint alleges, Woodbury pulled down his pants to expose his penis to the first flight attendant, who was standing at the front of the plane.
Prosecutors allege that Woodbury asked for more wine and exposed himself a second time after he was told he could have only a nonalcoholic beverage.
Woodbury returned to his seat and slept for the rest of the flight. As he was escorted off the plane by LAX police officers, he shouted to one of the flight attendants, “This is all your fault because you didn’t go to the bathroom with me,” according to the criminal complaint.
Woodbury later told police that the flight attendant solicited him to go to the bathroom, but he declined, according to the court record.

The City of Woodbury will see an “unprecedented” amount of road construction this summer
as crews lay the groundwork for a massive water treatment facility
“It’ll most likely be the largest or one of the largest pressurized PFAs treatment facilities in North America,” said Jim Westerman
the city’s assistant public works director
The work is being done as part of the 3M settlement with the State of Minnesota over toxic “forever chemicals” contaminating the groundwater in the east metro
Minnesota’s attorney general sued 3M in 2010
alleging the company’s production and disposal of PFAs damaged the drinking water across 14 east metro communities
PFAS have been called “forever chemicals” because of their inability to break down in the environment
Consuming them can result in higher cholesterol
thyroid disease and kidney and testicular cancer
3M settled with the state in 2018 for $850 million
most of which will be invested in drinking water and natural resource projects in the east metro
city officials took 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS out to the site of the new water treatment facility
“This facility will be able to produce 32 million gallons a day of treated water for PFAs,” Westerman said
“This is the largest capital improvement project undertaken in the history of the City of Woodbury.”
The new plant will be Woodbury’s first centralized water treatment facility
serving all 20 of the city’s municipal wells
nine of the 20 wells are under health advisories for PFAs
with water being filtered at temporary treatment sites
all of the water from the municipal wells in Woodbury will be treated for PFAs at this site
and then that water will be repressurized and pushed out to the community,” Westerman said
“Treating the water will bring PFAs down to non-detectable levels.”
The plant is expected to be operational in 2028
“It’s important to note there is also 17 miles of pipeline going into the ground throughout the community to connect the wells together to bring the water to this location,” Westerman said
“There is going to be significant disruption to the community as we put the pipelines in the ground
understanding that it is a public health infrastructure project to make sure we can provide the highest quality drinking water to the community of Woodbury.”
The work will be done in phases throughout the spring and summer in seven locations across the city
“We have not seen this level of work in the community’s history,” said city engineer Tony Kutzke
“This project will include 17 miles of pipeline to be installed throughout the community
and it will be very disruptive to the traveling public.”
Kutzke showed 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS three-foot-wide pipes going into the ground near Interlachen Parkway and Leyland Trail
where about a mile of roadway is currently ripped up with crews on site
“We will get roads opened up as we complete phases of pipe installation
We’ll build those roads back right behind it and continue to move along in our project,” Kutzke said
City officials expect construction to last about three months in each location
You can check where current road closures and detours are located on an interactive map the city is regularly updating
Road work will continue for the next three summers until the new water treatment site is up and running in 2028

Sobule's confessional songs sparkled with irony and humor and often told stories. Her hit "Supermodel" appeared in the 1995 movie Clueless and she even once wrote a song at the behest of NPR. Her guitar-accompanied performance of "Philosophy 101" on All Things Considered in 2009 included the lyrics: " I am who I am today / Philosophy 101 / Before class
we'd all get high / Philosophy 101 / We think therefore we are / I'm thinking here on NPR."

"Jill Sobule wasn't just a trailblazer in music—she was a beacon for queer artists," said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President & CEO in an online statement

Sobule never achieved the same level of commercial success after "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel."
After she was dropped by various record labels, including MCA and Atlantic, and a couple of indie labels she worked with went bankrupt, Sobule became an early pioneer of crowdfunded music when she decided to go to fans for help with producing her music. Sobule raised close to $89,000 to fund her album California Years
Born in Denver, Sobule first started playing the drums at the age of five. " I was in love with Ringo Starr," she told NPR in a 2018 interview
"And then somehow my parents convinced me that the guitar was a much nicer instrument." She took to the instrument quickly
" I was a shredder from right from the beginning," she said
It was during a trip with friends to Spain that she was invited to play in a nightclub after its owner heard her busking in the streets
She dropped out of college and started playing music professionally
Sobule launched her recording career in 1990
with the release of the album Things Here Are Different
Sobule released 12 albums over the course of her career and was outspoken on a variety of social issues such as anorexia
the MAGA movement and gay and reproductive rights

but the trauma still lingers.“I was eating
drinking protein and not leaving my house and depression,” Smith said.“It’s like the nightmare I’m just living over and over,” April Luera
I can’t eat.”Luera searched for a surgeon to bring back her smile
She recently found out her jaw alignment is off and may have to have surgery
She’s been put through painful surgeries to remove implants that were causing problems
Luera explained she’s navigating a stressful situation without insurance. She’s forced to pay for additional surgeries and appointments to heal while she’s drowning in debt
Jeffrey McCloud has faced similar challenges
He’s been on antibiotics for two years and is left with a scar
He has another appointment in June to find out if his sinus infection has cleared
because I can’t have it fixed until they know the infection is gone,” he said
The database confirms that Dr. Kamel is still allowed to practice dentistry in California.
Kamel be held accountable.“We need something coming to the people that are suffering through what we’re suffering through,” McCloud said.“I’m sorry
but I feel like the board of dentistry should be held accountable,” Luera said. Smith responded, “I don’t think you should be sorry for that because they should be.”
The Minnesota Board of Dentistry explained in a statement that they’ve made changes to their protocols following the incident with Dr
“The board of dentistry has modified language in temporary suspension
and revocation disciplinary orders that specifically requires broader public notification when serious board actions are taken so the patient population and the broader public is informed by the licensee and the Board
using additional media tools,” Bridgett Anderson
discipline orders are and previously have been immediately posted on their website and searchable online
we do understand not all patients may do this prior to visiting a provider
We encourage them to use our website tools such as our online license verification tool and the searchable discipline order section,” Anderson said
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reporter Brittney Ermon went by Dr
A family member answered the door and said he was not home
Kamel was in California practicing dentistry
The Woodbury police department is still investigating Dr
They explained they have mountains of digital evidence to comb through and interviews to complete
“The detective working the case is trying to wrap up interviews with victims. Once that’s done
she’s going to try and get an interview with Kamel
With the mountain of digital evidence that had to be accessed and poured through
I have to be realistic that there may not be a resolution of criminal charges.”
The Attorney General’s office said in a statement that they do not have any additional information to share on the case

Exclusive: Dennis Wally Woodbury is also accused of slapping a crewmember’s butt and asking a young girl “if her parents made her out of lust or love.”

A chameleon enthusiast from Southern California drank an entire bottle of Prosecco during the first half of a cross-country flight
then allegedly slapped a flight attendant’s rear end before pulling down his pants and underwear and exposing his genitalia – twice – to another member of the cabin crew
When police later questioned 49-year-old Dennis Wally Woodbury about his behavior aboard the JetBlue plane, which included asking a young girl walking in the aisle “if her parents made her out of lust or love,” he claimed the two flight attendants had in fact “solicited” him, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Independent
Woodbury was arrested after the April 13 flight landed in Los Angeles
“This is all your fault because you didn’t go to the bathroom with me,” Woodbury shouted at one of the crewmembers as he was led off the aircraft by police
which was filed April 14 in Los Angeles federal court
He was later released on a $50,000 appearance bond partially guaranteed by his sister, a South Carolina firefighter
The phone number Woodbury listed in his pretrial release package links him to numerous posts on an online message board for hobbyist chameleon keepers
where the Los Angeles-area resident has been involved in multiple discussions about breeding and caring for the color-changing reptiles
Woodbury did not respond on Sunday to voicemails and texts seeking comment. Email messages sent over the weekend to Woodbury’s public defender, as well as a JetBlue spokesperson
As JetBlue flight 201 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to LAX waited out an hour-long delay due to mechanical issues, Woodbury, who was seated in the first row of Mint Class
began drinking Prosecco to while away the time
Before the aircraft pushed back from the gate
Woodbury struck up a conversation with a flight attendant identified in the affidavit by the initials “R.O.,” and showed him a picture of a dog
was “a blurred image of what appeared to be two men having sex.”
‘I was wondering how long it would take you.’ Woodbury then told R.O
Woodbury’s username on the message board for chameleon lovers connects him to a review site for cruise fans
One 2021 post under Woodbury’s handle lauded the food aboard a Virgin Voyages ship
but decried the shortcomings of the available beverage packages
began demonstrating how the plane’s oxygen masks worked
he saw Woodbury “looking at him and [making] a hand pumping motion.”
Woodbury drained the entire 750ml bottle of Prosecco within three hours
who is identified in the affidavit as “J.C.,” observed Woodbury “slurring his words and rambling.”
Woodbury was asleep by the time meal service began
woke him up because he “believed that [he] needed to eat to help absorb the alcohol he had drank,” the affidavit states
who “used his left hand to slap J.C.’s buttocks and yelled
said he could hear the slap to J.C.’s buttocks,” according to the affidavit
walked to the rear of the cabin to inform the rest of the crew about Woodbury’s antics
in the plane’s front galley “and pulled down his pants exposing the head of his erect penis,” according to the affidavit
It says R.O. told Woodbury, “This is not the place to do that.” Woodbury walked away but quickly circled back, asking R.O. for a glass of wine
but that he would serve Woodbury a non-alcoholic drink
“Woodbury then pulled down his pants a second time[,] exposing the head of his erect penis,” the affidavit contends
to work in a different section of the plane for the rest of the flight so he could avoid Woodbury
Woodbury then went back to sleep for the remainder of the six-hour flight
then “issued Woodbury a JetBlue notice to cease objectionable and illegal behavior,” and placed it on Woodbury’s lap
officers with the Los Angeles Airport Police escorted Woodbury off the plane as he tried to lay blame on J.C
about his refusal to “go to the bathroom” with him
The cops called in the FBI
which has jurisdiction over incidents in the air
and a task force agent read Woodbury his rights
The affidavit says Woodbury interrupted the agent partway through
telling her he understood his rights and that he didn’t need to hear them again
The agent asked Woodbury if he wanted to talk to her
but then added that the flight attendant solicited him to go to the bathroom but he told him no,” the affidavit says
“Woodbury did not define what soliciting meant to him,” the affidavit added
Woodbury was arrested and charged with abusive sexual contact within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States
a judge instructed Woodbury to turn in his passport
and ordered him to a residential alcohol treatment program
He is due in court for a preliminary conference on May 6
In the first four months of 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration has so far fielded nearly 500 reports of unruly passengers
the agency received 2,102 unruly passenger complaints
down from an all-time high of 5,973 in 2021
If convicted, Woodbury faces up to two years in prison.

Kang Wang and Amanda Woodbury performed in Washington Concert Opera’s performance of Verdi’s Luisa Miller Sunday evening
the last area company to perform Verdi’s Luisa Miller back in 2005
brought this rarely heard opera back to Lisner Auditorium Sunday evening
That last performance came two years after WCO had embarked on an ill-considered attempt to host its performances in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall
WCO has once again lapped Washington National Opera in the repertoire race: WNO’s last production of this opera dates from 1995
is in love with a stranger who turns out to be Rodolfo
a slimy villain named Wurm who is also in love with Luisa
but the count has Miller arrested so that Rodolfo can marry a wealthy cousin
Luisa writes a letter proclaiming her love for Wurm
Engulfed in despair after reading the letter
but the effects are slow-acting enough to allow for 20 minutes of ensembles
WCO artistic director Antony Walker’s casting reach is so deep that this rendition sparkled with talent, even after three singers had to be replaced. Soprano Amanda Woodbury, who took over for Angel Blue as Luisa two weeks ago, made a noteworthy WCO debut in Bellini’s La Straniera in 2017
Although this performance was her first assay of the role
which Woodbury delivered from her opening scene
with flexible arpeggiation in staccato attack and effortless trills
Not only could she soar with power over the ensembles and chorus
Woodbury sang with both beauty and power through her many scenes up to and including the powerful duet with Miller in Act III
including a sustained high C and touching on D-flat
The Rodolfo of Kang Wang matched Woodbury in fortitude if not in subtlety. He approached this role with more delicacy than in two recent outings with WNO
mollifying his powerhouse tenor in ensembles
Wang purred with velvety legato in the cavatina “Quando le sere al placido.” In the concluding cabaletta of despair
“L’ara o l’avello apprestami,” he drew the evening’s loudest ovations with room-filling volume on the piece’s B-flat climaxes
last heard at WCO in Roberto Devereux in 2022
replaced an indisposed George Gagnidze as Miller earlier this week
His rich baritone thundered on the role’s many high notes
even interpolating a high A-flat at the end of his Act I aria
The only shortcoming was in the few complex cadenzas Verdi wrote for Miller
with trills and other fioriture sounding awkward
but his intense singing proved ultimately affecting in the striking father-daughter duets with Woodbury
relished the vile side of the villain Wurm
his smarmy bass mined for its sinister qualities
mezzo-soprano Kate Jackman especially impressed with her resonant bottom range
Verdi gave the character a striking cadenza
rising up to high G and then ranging down two octaves to the G below the staff
Woodbury and Jackman complemented one another handsomely
while Gradus and Weiser’s parts felt muddy at times
Of the two singers from the WCO chorus who took comprimario roles
soprano Erin Ridge stood out as the village girl Laura
In her charming little scene to open Act III
Ridge’s sweet tone blended seamlessly with the two flutes
The WCO Orchestra’s performance boasted many strong elements
and a solid bassline from the cimbasso played by Zach Bridges
The ensemble felt less polished than usual
with some sloppy ensemble playing in the violins and cellos
as well as a number of early entrances in the brass
A crudely synthesized organ used for the church in Act III did not help
The presence of Walker at the podium provided the throughline of the evening
always making sure of balances in service to the voices
With strong and subtle contributions from the WCO Chorus as well
this performance again made the case for Luisa Miller
which except for its absurdly melodramatic ending
deserves to be in the company of the composer’s Rigoletto two years later
In its 2o25-26 season, Washington Concert Opera will present Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride (November 23), Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles (March 14, 2026), and Mozart’s Idomeneo (May 9, 2026). concertopera.org

was tragically killed in a snowy Valentine’s Day crash in Washington County in West Lakeland Township
“The people who are reaching out to us letting us know the impact that she had on their life has been one of the reasons…we are breathing,” said Chris Radecki
The Washington County Sheriff said the road conditions on Stagecoach Trail North and 10th Street North in West Lakeland Township on Friday afternoon appeared to be a factor in the two-vehicle crash
“We’re learning now just how many lives she touched,” said Dawn Radecki
