In the meantime, the Officine Universelle Buly soaps and bath amenities make in-room self-care even more enjoyable. The neighborhood/areaYou can’t get much more expensive in Paris than the Place Vendôme, one known for its fine jewelers and luxury fashion shops. All of the legendary shopping is at your feet from this hotel but if it’s the museums and parks that interest you more, you’d be well positioned to access those swiftly, too—the Tuileries Gardens, Paris’s most central green space, is less than a block away. The serviceEveryone was courteous, warm, and fairly quickly available, even if not always visible. Eco effortThere are little to no single-use plastics anywhere in sight, though it isn’t a major talking point. Even the tea bags from Palais des Thés come in 100% recycled paper wrappers, Officine Universelle Buly amenities come in aluminum or porcelain bottles, while any leftover bar soaps get repurposed by a local organization. Anything left to mention? There are a slew of reasons several categories of travelers would want to stay near the Place Vendôme but are priced out. At least initially, Maison Barrière Vendôme is a more affordable alternative with something the Ritz can’t offer to the same extent because of its size and offering: privacy. It’s one thing just with my six year old though honestly even that makes it nice to ensure we have a room But with a nine month old the last thing I wanted was to arrive and not be able to go to the room Most suites are really just larger rooms (even slightly ‘upgraded’ suites a level above the base suite which is a low ceiling room) While the room was probably just around 550 square feet it had two bathrooms and two large closets and a (quite small) bedroom and separate living room They’re large even in the small rooms but most rooms have a sink and mirror in the shower It’s certainly good for shaving in the shower The only time I ever had a street view was on my first stay (not in a suite from before points bookings could be confirmed in suites) A highlight for Hyatt Globalists is breakfast which can be taken in the restaurant (normally 60 eur per person) or via room service During the week restaurant breakfast ends at 10:30 a.m But breakfast is offered via room service 24 hours a day and regardless of when you order breakfast it is taken off of the bill (they do distinguish between breakfast and non-breakfast items for this) So there’s no rushing for a cut-off We ordered room service immediately when we got into our room (since we’d paid the night before breakfast was included as basically lunch) and each morning thereafter of our stay On arrival they brought us champagne and two different kinds of cookies plus balloons with my daughter’s name on them so knew her name though perhaps they had it from a past visit as well they brought bath and other items for him too Evening treats were brought twice out of five nights which was odd Service at the hotel is good but not consistent Housekeeping service is twice daily and comes immediately when called but they don’t remember preferences even when they say they will (e.g promising regular extra water – this was delivered the first day but never automatically thereafter) The lowest level of the hotel (“0”) features the spa The hotel’s concierge is very helpful and I find it useful to have them make bookings for me in advance over email Even for restaurants and activities with online functionality that doesn’t always work and foreign credit cards aren’t always taken Getting them to deal locally with things for me is nice and they’re good offering help and reminders during the stay Some will disagree but I love the scent of the hotel It is not directly on any metros but an easy walk to three I thought this was an important note to keep in mind More articles by Gary Leff » Corporate rates here are 300 eur a night which is the real cost of this property Not many are paying full price to stay here so it’s not a 2000 eur suite when you can get a real 5* property for that price Even 40k pts is a ripoff unless it’s peak summer months Had you confirmed a two room suite beforehand stayed at many of the Marriott and Hilton options in the city center Most recently stayed at the Park Hyatt in October 2024–was very pleased but still felt it was good value (+3 cents per point redemption) Was only a Hyatt ‘Explorist’ at the time so no ‘free breakfast,’ but the team there was generous enough to provide early check-in which is always nice after a redeye from the States A highlight is the newly renovated one-star Michelin restaurant You’ll want reservations for that one I’m not even going to bother with Marriott because they’ve changed/devalued so much since I’ve stayed with them there if you have the points or an expiring free-night certificate the Hilton Paris Opera (somewhat nearby this Park Hyatt) or even the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace at Versailles (a bit farther from the city) but you want to make sure you breakeven on the redemptions Hilton points seem to be worth 0.5 cents per point and the annual fee for that Aspire credit card (which earns the certificates) is $550 Paris has gotten trickier the past decade as the smaller hotels/apartment rentals have gotten much more expensive That said it’s flat out stupid to use this many points to stay at this hotel You won’t be spending that much time at your hotel — especially in a big city like Paris Once you get decent comfort (3 star is fine) Read somewhere that this hotel has a really high award booking % as most are not paying it and point users feel they are getting a good value I would think this is really a $700/night property tops @Peteco — That’s a fascinating idea It really depends on what you are comparing the Park Hyatt is mere blocks from the Ritz Paris (you know Princess of Wales stayed just before she died–not to be confused with Ritz-Carlton) entry-level rooms there go for at least $3,000/night is Park Hyatt actually ‘five-stars’ Do you get assigned a ‘butler’ like at a St Let’s consider cash price: Other than the Park Hyatt for ‘branded’ hotels in the +$1,500/night range include: Shangri-La Nearly all of which you cannot use points on there’s the next category up (+$2,500/night) maybe you are correct: Park Hyatt is absolutely over-priced if paying cash who are the ‘suckers’ paying cash Had this booked last year for our 10 year anniversary but wife changed her mind I expect to have the ability to light a cigarette while in my room I have the Gallic attitude of not caring one bit about “second-hand smoke” This is why I have a lot of status in Wyndham and Choice and a decent number of points in Motel 6’s frequent stayer program Give me my nicotine and I’ll give you my custom @ Gary — A suite at the fully renovated InterContinental Le Grand is better with an outstanding Club InterContinental including champagne all day and complimentary breakfast in the restaurant and/or lounge We typically pay ~$525 + tax or ~75,000 points per night and receive a complimentary RA suite upgrade which is pretty similar to 40,000 points + Globalist suite upgrade at the Park Hyatt with no club lounge and lots of snootiness and gaudy decor What are those creepy dead people on the walls and did DJT order all the gold fixtures I’ve got IHG points to burn and Platinum status with their Chase Premier card One certainly doesn’t need to spend $1,500-3,000/night to have a nice stay @gene; grest for RA,s but the I C grand has the tiniest entry level rooms II e seen for points Hyatt’s suite upgrades can be confirmed in advance @Gary – You mention that the concierge helps you with reservations and activities Nothing as elaborate as a full review but some bullet points with a few sentences worth of description would be helpful for those like me who haven’t visited Paris in a great many years I suspect other readers might feel similarly @1990 – upthread it’s noted corporate contracts are paying closer to 300 euros a night Similar at some Four Seasons properties…big banks/law firms/consulting have contracted rates well below the public price Kind of like long haul biz class…you’d be surprised at how low some of the last seat available premium cabin rates are for really big customers of an airline on heavy biz routes like NYC-LHR are overinflating the hell out of those cash prices in hotels where the majority of stays are award stays I remember the first time that I mentioned this on Reddit people thought that I was some crazy conspiracy theorist Then Frequent Miler published their article on this subject for the Alila Ventana Big Sur and they confirmed with a manager that like 70% of all bookings there were award stays And that was 2 years ago; it would not surprise me if that percentage is much higher today I would imagine the Park Hyatt Vendome is not very far off As for who are the “suckers” paying the inflated cash rates it is mostly high-end business travelers whose employer either pays directly for them or refunds their trip you either stay at a nicer property at a lower rate or at an inflated property that refunds you points and status benefits later on during your personal travel If your employer is reimbursing 100% of the bill I stayed recently at Hyatt’s Hotel du Louvre and felt it was pretty good Much cheaper than the Park Hyatt and in my opinion I was also granted early check-in for 2 rooms and I have zero status with Hyatt IHG has a few sweetspots too depending on your preferences @Greg — Thank you for your insights on this Have not been as involved with the backend of corporate travel I imagine those hotels and airlines do enough business with those firms that it makes sense in the end—like 40k points is a bit steep when you have so many other more reasonable options in Paris 40k is what you pay at Allia Big Sur because you have no other options <$2k The hotel accommodated the conference room so I could taste wines with my supplier The kosher breakfast was amazing and although not the same level as not kosher it’s a whole new level to get amazing kosher food in room I mentioned that I had an early flight and I didn’t like the coffee in the hotel and they sent somebody to the nearby coffee shop and got me coffee which was brought to my room in the morning and they only charged me the cost of the coffee Gary Leff is one of the foremost experts in As you enter from the street, you will almost certainly encounter the statues created by French artist Roseline Granet. However, this won't be your only encounter with the artist's work, as it also lines the walls of the lobby and even the guest rooms. This is an interesting touch and provides a nice bit of continuity as you move through the hotel. But at the same time, if you think the statues are a little bit creepy, you're not alone. Canvases by American artist Ed Paschke are also featured in the lobby, which really does add to the art museumlike ambience. At first glance, our room looked exactly the same as it did 10 years ago on my first stay ... so much so that we recreated a breakfast-in-bed photo from 10 years ago with my now 14-year-old, as this was one of our first big international trips a decade ago. Previous slideNext slide1 of 2Park Hyatt Paris Vendome in 2014. SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY01The kid has now doubled in size, but the oversized gold crown molding, the rich, warm wood on the walls and even the three gold, black and tan throw pillows placed on the comfortable king bed hadn't appeared to have changed a bit. In all fairness, I think the rooms have had some tech and other updates since my last stay, but the vibe and look remain essentially unchanged. Standard rooms measure around 323 square feet. We ultimately had connecting rooms for our family of four — one with one king bed that I believe had been upgraded to the slightly larger deluxe king room category and the other with two twin beds. The beds are very comfortable for catching up on some jetlag-induced rest. I love opening the windows to let in the Parisian air and sounds, and there are enough outlets and amenities, such as the stocked Nespresso machine, to keep us quite comfortable and happy. Previous slideNext slide1 of 7SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY0123456The unique bathroom was also just as I remembered it. It's somewhat hard to even describe the bathroom's layout, so I'll let the pictures do some of the talking, but the design sort of combines the bathtub and shower area with an extra sink and mirror. There's a glass door that helps to keep the water from spilling out into the rest of the bathroom. Previous slideNext slide1 of 5SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY01234The shower itself is great (aside from being a bit of an odd layout), with excellent water pressure and nice toiletries. But it was a weird design a decade ago, and it's still quite unusual now. A gold-lined room with art coming out of the walls will never be the preferred vibe for everyone, but I applaud the hotel for being exactly who it is with its decor. However, with that appreciation for a commitment to the theme said out loud, I'd also go so far as to say that if a luxury hotel room looks exactly the same after a decade, right down to the throw pillows, it's probably past time for an upgraded look. If you're looking for a workout while at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome, you're in luck. The gym is open 24/7 for hotel guests and features an array of machines, weights and mats, along with chilled towels and water. Paris is not only the City of Light but a city of really good food, and the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome has a slew of on-site dining options ranging from Michelin-starred to one of the nicest breakfast buffets you're likely to find. These are the dining mainstays of the hotel and where I dined during my visit. They're connected outlets and have nearly identical menus, but the former is an outdoor dining area in the hotel's courtyard. Previous slideNext slide1 of 3SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY012As mentioned in the section above, Globalists get a complimentary "American" breakfast every morning that can be enjoyed either in-room or at the restaurant. It includes juice, coffee, fruit, yogurt, a breadbasket and your choice of meat, fish and eggs. My favorite part was the pastries — as you'd expect, it's all freshly baked. The fresh juice was delicious too. For those who are not Globalists, a continental breakfast at Cafe Jeanne's costs about $51. Previous slideNext slide1 of 6SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY012345We tried dinner here one night (for research purposes, of course), and while we were pretty thoughtful about sharing a few of the lower-priced items, such as a pizza and some shareable appetizers and entrees to keep the cost down, we still made a strategic ordering error. For an idea of prices, entrees range from about $20 to about $70. Previous slideNext slide1 of 6SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY012345I didn't spend any time pursuing the extensive beverage menu since I was just going to have water with my meal, so I didn't really think anything of it when the rest of the family of four each ordered a Coke or lemonade with their meal... until the bill came. Each bottle of soda was $16. That meant we spent a whopping $48 on three sodas, which has to set a family world record. At least no one asked for a refill. But that's a good example of pricing at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome and a potential downside of staying somewhere so nice that you otherwise might not be able to comfortably afford it since even those seemingly innocent Cokes with dinner could put a dent in your vacation budget. Inside Cafe Jeanne is a gorgeous bar with design-forward reflective mirrors, an interesting cocktail menu and even some music on Thursday evenings. This Michelin-starred on-site restaurant is helmed by chef Jean-François Rouquette and is open Tuesday through Saturday evenings for reservations only. The menu is described as creative French gastronomy, and you can choose from a five- or eight-course dinner with or without wine pairings. During both of my stays, the service at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome felt a little bit like something out of a movie, at least for those of us who don't frequent such fancy hotels on a regular basis. We may have bordered on feeling out of place in our very normal shorts and sneakers here, but it wasn't because of anything the staff did or said. The staff we interacted with all looked, sounded and acted extremely elegant and refined, but in a way that was often warm and helpful. As an example of this above-and-beyond service, my daughter turned 9 on the morning of our last stay. I had fun things planned for her later in the day, but the night before realized that it might be nice for her birthday to feel like her birthday a little earlier in the day. I texted the hotel from bed at 10 p.m. and asked if they could maybe just write "Happy Birthday" on a plate for her at breakfast. They did way more than that. By 8:15 a.m. the next morning, with just a simple text request late the night before — and at no charge to us — they had sent up balloons, a cake and a card. I would have never dreamed of asking for all of that, but it was so appreciated and a great example of the level of service at this particular Park Hyatt. If you need an accessible room, it's best to reach out directly to the hotel, as limited information is available on the hotel's accessibility page beyond indicating that they do offer rooms for those with reduced mobility, available upon request — seven bedrooms and one suite. This page also states that the property's team is trained to assist guests with accessibility needs and that public spaces — including elevators and hallways with wheelchair dimensions — are fit for those with reduced mobility. I love the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome. It's far from cookie-cutter, and to me, it's a truly special hotel. There is an air of hushed elegance that's fun to experience, even if only for a few days. I'm not a regular here and never will be. It's out of my (cash and points) league, and I simply don't get to Paris all that often. But I surely hope that the at least once-a-decade pattern holds and I again get to visit the hotel some years down the road on a special trip. Maybe we'd even recreate that photo of a once 4-year-old enjoying the room service breakfast at 24 years old a decade from now. Still — I'd say the hotel, especially within the guest rooms, needs some aesthetic and functional updates at this point that I hope it receives in the coming years. Assuming they keep the bones of the property strong and maintain a high standard for service and food, I'd probably check in here again, even if the room continues to look exactly the same. Previous slideNext slide1 of 3SUMMER HULL/THE POINTS GUY012But, more importantly, will a stay at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome be worth it to you? But if you have the Hyatt Globalist perks to put to use, are able to save up the points to pull it off, enjoy a fantastic room service breakfast, appreciate a few days of top-notch service and are OK with resting amid statues and a gold-lined room, then yes, it's probably worth it. And in that case, book the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome, start counting down the days and please let me know how you enjoy the bread basket. Using the signature layout of the Place Vendôme with sub-dials forming the base of a pyramid and a third sub-dial at the apex the escapements were fitted at 4:30 and 7:30 with the differential connecting them at noon and their trains running down the centre The openworked dial ensures a perfect view of the pyramid alignment formed by the dual regulators and the differential gear at noon you can appreciate the four adjustment screws on the variable inertia balance wheels as well as the Breguet terminal curve The novelty of this latest reference is the use of heat-blued indices and hands contrasting with the circular-grained grey minutes and hours flange skirting around the movement Another difference between this model and earlier reference is the substitution of the glass-box crystal for a domed sapphire crystal Relying on a fusion of tradition and modernity the applied indices (from 9 to 3) and openworked sword-shaped gold-plated hands are luminescent and the differential gear at noon is secured under a transparent sapphire crystal bridge with six rubies set in gold chatons To keep an eye on the 72-hour autonomy of Lederer’s manual-winding calibre 8 there is a power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock with a blued hand The spectacle is guaranteed as the balance wheels oscillate in opposite directions sending their 3Hz impulse to the gear train and differential The Not surprisingly, I booked using World of Hyatt points It’s a Category 8 hotel that costs 35,000 (off-peak) I transferred points from Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 ratio to make the booking I paid 165,000 points for 4 nights (3 standard nights plus 1 peak night.) The cash cost for my stay in May 2024 would have been $4,647. That means I got 2.82 cents per point in value, which is better than our current valuation of Chase points at 2 cents each Had I paid cash for this stay, I would have used The World of Hyatt Credit Card to earn up to 9 points total for Hyatt stays — 4 bonus points per $1 spent on qualified purchases at Hyatt hotels and up to 5 base points per $1 from Hyatt as a World of Hyatt member If you’d like to stay at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, too, make sure you’re earning lots of World of Hyatt points. You can also earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Bilt Rewards points since both of these currencies transfer to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme is centrally located in the heart of Paris, near Place Vendôme in the 1st arrondissement. It’s within easy walking distance of the Tuileries Garden, Place de la Concorde, and 2 of the best museums in Paris: the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay The hotel is located about 20 miles from Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) and about 15 miles from Paris Orly Airport (ORY) We took the Réseau Express Régional B train, or RER B, from Charles de Gaulle Airport Uber is also available in Paris for those who prefer not to walk from the train station to the hotel Uber Cash, including any monthly credits you may earn from The Platinum Card® from American Express or American Express® Gold Card These credits only work in countries that use U.S As soon as my husband and I walked in the door we were greeted and directed to the check-in desk further inside the hotel (the concierge desk was right next to the entrance) the woman checking us in actually understood me (and she spoke English so I didn’t need to stumble through the rest of the conversation) The desk clerk thanked me for being a Hyatt Globalist member and offered me a 4 p.m but she upgraded me to a King Deluxe room from a standard Park King room I checked before I arrived and knew that there were many suites available, but the standard suite, the Park Suite King, wasn’t. (The Park Suite King wasn’t available even a year out when I made this reservation, so I wasn’t able to apply a Suite Upgrade Award.) It was a little disappointing that the hotel wouldn’t bump me up to a premium suite we were escorted up to our room on the third floor If you want to use a Suite Upgrade Award at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme This is the standard suite and the only room type you can upgrade to using a Suite Upgrade Award Globalist benefits I utilized on this stay included: There were several additional benefits that were not applicable on this stay: While it was disappointing that I wasn’t upgraded to a suite the King Bed Deluxe room was slightly larger than the standard Park Room King (323 square feet) The high ceilings and large windows (which actually opened) made it feel larger than it was Our view overlooked the glass roof of the restaurant below We were delighted to find a welcome gift to help us celebrate our anniversary: a cake The room was decorated in warm woods with gold accents There were sculptures everywhere — under the lights I found the sculptures intriguing — some looked as if they were dancing A large desk area with a TV was just to the right of the door To the left of the door was the coffee setup and minibar If every in-room coffee setup could be like the one at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme There was an espresso machine and an electric kettle so you could easily heat water to make an Americano (I loved this!) But the best part was that the housekeeping staff filled the water carafe in the coffee machine for me each day It’s little touches like this that make a hotel stay special Right under the coffee maker was a drawer containing cups and all of the extras you would need to make your coffee or tea I have noticed that many Hyatt hotels offer packs of coffee whitener instead of actual creamer I know I take hotel coffee too seriously.) The fridge was right underneath the coffee maker It was filled with snacks and drinks to purchase The bathroom was just as elegant as the bedroom. Stocked with super fluffy towels, bathrobes, and slippers, it was what you’d expect in a bathroom at a Park Hyatt hotel If you have read any of my previous hotel reviews The shower at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme didn’t disappoint and it had one of the most unique features I have ever seen in a hotel shower: a sink The shower was spacious and had great water pressure and plenty of hot water — a perfect combination It was so nice to return to this after a long day of walking all over Paris Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel from Blaise Mautin Parfumeur were available in full-sized containers It didn’t have doors and was open to the bathroom and open closets like this one just seem so much more convenient to me so there was plenty of room to hang clothes and store luggage The toilet was in a separate water closet with a door next to the bathroom’s sink and vanity area Breakfast at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme was served each morning at Café Jeanne so the American breakfast was included in my stay (room service breakfast was also available) The American breakfast included the breakfast buffet as well as a choice of coffee The atmosphere of the room was bright and comfortable had plenty of selections without being overwhelming I really enjoyed the Emmenthal quiche and an egg dish that was baked with tomato sauce There was fruit and a large selection of yogurts Let’s not forget the bread — there was so much good bread I was particularly in love with these miniature baguettes so much so that I took a few extra for lunch the day we visited Versailles (shhh Café Jeanne was open for breakfast Monday to Friday from 7 to 10:30 a.m In the evenings, Café Jeanne converts into a lounge and bar serving an extensive menu of drinks as well as tapas Breakfast at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme is served at Café Jeanne Globalists get the American breakfast included in their stay Pur’ is the Michelin-starred restaurant at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme It was open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:45 to 9:30 p.m It was undergoing renovations during my stay so I wasn’t able to grab a photo (though it was still open for dining) The spa and fitness center were together 1 level below the lobby Le Spa at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme was open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. I love visiting spas, but I only had a few days in Paris, so I skipped it this time. A hammam, sauna, and Jacuzzi were available, and you could book a massage, facial, or body treatment The gym was fairly small but had everything you would need to get a good workout We were walking over 30,000 steps per day exploring Paris The service at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme was fantastic We were warmly welcomed at reception and breakfast each morning we had water and towels replaced during the turndown service the housekeeping staff took our unopened juices and the notes that were left for us on the day we arrived I never figured out if that was a mistake or intentional but the juices were replaced promptly when I asked about them I have wanted to stay at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme for years so I was thrilled to finally make it happen Since the cash cost of this hotel is so high it’s a great place to use World of Hyatt points While I was disappointed I wasn’t upgraded to a suite my room was beautiful and very comfortable which was included thanks to my Globalist status and the location offered convenient access to many of the top attractions in Paris I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wouldn’t hesitate to book the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme again Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme is a Hyatt Category 8 hotel No, there isn’t a club lounge at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme. en compte On Thursday night, just a stone's throw from this iconic luxury locale—home to the Ritz, Louis Vuitton, and the world's leading jewelers—Shein held its fashion show featuring young talent and a few special guests of the brand gathered under the arcades of Cour Vendôme where Shein had arranged long banquet tables overflowing with its lifestyle products. As the small crowd entered the Pavillon Vendôme the rain intensified and lightning streaked across the Parisian sky—as if the relationship between the brand and France was destined to be electric The global fashion retail giant is indeed under scrutiny by the French parliament with a law aiming to reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry adopted in a first reading by the National Assembly Representatives of the French fashion industry regularly criticise the business model of the Singapore-based e-commerce platform These concerns were far from the minds of the 18 young designers who collectively presented around 50 looks Working from the vault located in the basement of the Pavillon Vendôme—a former bank—they prepared the show using materials and resources provided by Shein. The event unfolded in a joyful and highly eclectic atmosphere featuring everything from a businesswoman (carrying editions of Le Monde and Vogue in her bag) to a sultry "black widow" in lingerie femme fatale silhouettes reminiscent of the 1950s and brooding men wearing dark outfits with sharp-shouldered overcoats paying homage to Parisian icons from Édith Piaf to Jacques Dutronc covered all the style categories offered by Shein on its website the runway event will undoubtedly be skilfully utilised by the brand's teams the brand is advocating its commitment to inclusive fashion by featuring models of all ages and skin tones from the International College For Models in Paris This argument for fashion accessible to all is strengthened by a strategy of supporting young designers. The multinational company which runs a program called SheinX to market proposals from yet-to-be-discovered creatives announced its intention to support 250 young European talents over the next five years with a budget of 10 million euros At a time when funding sources are notably scarce Shein is clearly making strides."Europe is home to incredible young talent and we are working not only to empower this new generation of designers but also to advance our ambitions in sustainability and circularity Just as local designers at our show have integrated circularity into their creations we intend to continue promoting the adoption of circular choices and preferred materials across our entire offering," said Leonard Lin president of Shein for the EMEA region (Europe "With collaborations like this and our commitment to investing in attracting more designers to the SheinX program we hope that Shein can be a catalyst for emerging fashion voices while advancing circularity."The executive noted that production in the Euromed region has ramped up and that he is engaging with stakeholders in circularity He defended the group—often criticised for its environmental and social impact due to its significant industry presence—by explaining that it optimises production through a model of testing short runs of about 100 pieces He also mentioned that the company is restructuring to develop more responsible sourcing of materials When questioned about the legislative changes in France and Europe—where the European Union is set to eliminate the €150 threshold for applying customs duties on e-commerce—the new European president explained that the group will comply with all regulations and pay the necessary taxes in each country. The new European head who frequently travels between Singapore and various countries across the continent He is neither a marketing expert nor a former sales director he serves as the director of public affairs and interacts with industry representatives and government officials Shein has recently strengthened its position in the European market by enlisting former European commissioner Günther Oettinger the Carrousel Louis Vuitton is set up right in front of the weekdays 10am-8pm weekends) where each wooden creature invites you to turn A setting that today hosts the greatest luxury houses in the heart of the capital the Place Vendôme has also been the site of memorable installations during the fair for the past nine years After the works of contemporary artists Paul McCarthy (2014) and Elmgreen & Dragset (2018) or the giant pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama (2019) this one will welcome for the first time the work of a modern artist: Alexander Calder whose steel sculpture will subtly draw the image of a giant red dragon on the square until January 2 taking flight Edward Said, in a famous essay devoted essentially to music, celebrated the “late style“. He saw in it the space of both transformation and revelation of the heart of an artist’s work. Flying Dragon, one of Alexander Calder’s last works is a manifestation of this moment that both guides the artist to another place and reveals the depths of his creation First of all, it’s a stabile. We know the famous tension, in Calder’s work, between “stabiles” and “mobiles”, mobiles suspended in the air From this position a second tension can be deduced: unity – that of the stable composed of several elements that play one and the many Whereas the stabile is a pure unity: a form But this flying dragon is on earth: it is as if the work proposed a kind of contradiction in terms It has often been sought – following a somewhat naïve approach – to see in the mobiles of solar systems We would therefore have above us a prodrome of the galaxies that surround us are the microcosm of the whole of humanity dreaming of its centrality and therefore we interpret everything according to our references The monument assumes that it does not celebrate but simply that it is : that it is a sign almost devoid of content it is not a pure representation – but a new representation of what is not It is a reality that is grappling with the world Sculpture is a hauntology: it exists as much by its shadow as by its presence Sculpture exists through everything that surrounds it And the Flying Dragon tells us that the earth could well be the sky: an apparent paradox that opens up our sensation it was Marcel Duchamp who was at the origin of the term “mobile”
