The tourism development of Evia is entering a new era as two significant investments are upgrading the island's hotel infrastructure
and creating new opportunities for the local economy
These are the construction of a new luxury resort in Cheromylos
and the upgrading of the existing Saint Minas Beach hotel in Chalkida from 4 stars to 5 stars
One of the largest hotel investments in Evia is being developed in the Cheromylos area of the Municipality of Kymi-Aliveri
with the creation of a new 5-star hotel by the company Cheromylos RESORT S.A
The investment belongs to the company "Cheromylos RESORT S.A."
known for his activity in the metallurgy sector through VIDOMET S.A
which has received environmental approval from the Directorate of Environment and Spatial Planning of Central Greece
aspires to become a benchmark in upscale hospitality in the region
The resort will occupy a seaside area of 54 acres
One of its special features is that exclusively electric vehicles will be allowed within the hotel complex
with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint
With a frontage of approximately 200 meters on a sandy beach
the unit takes advantage of the natural slope of the land so that all rooms have an unobstructed view of the sea
The new resort will offer high-quality services and is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists
The second significant investment concerns the upgrade of the Saint Minas Beach hotel in Chalkida
which is being converted from 4 stars to 5 stars
offering upgraded services and infrastructure
The hotel belongs to the company SAINT MINAS BEACH HOTEL TOURIST SOLE OWNER S.A.
a location in high demand due to its proximity to Chalkida and the view of the Euboean Gulf
as it began its operation in 1973 as a 4-star unit
while in 2017 it received a temporary 1-star and 4-room operating license
limiting its activity exclusively to the exploitation of its beach
After the completion of the upgrade and expansion works
Saint Minas Beach will have 103 rooms and 206 beds
The upgrade is expected to have a positive impact on the local labor market as it will create 45 jobs annually
This investment comes to complement the strategic presence of businessman Nikolaos S
as he also controls the Negroponte Resort Eretria
offering views of both the sea and the mountain
other hotel units operate in the Eretria area
resulting in the destination attracting the interest of tourist agencies that bring tourists from abroad

The municipal authority of Kymi-Aliveri on Evia Island has sent a document to the police to address the presence of illegal campers at Thapsa Beach
following a viral photo that depicted the coast occupied by a large number of tents
the municipality plans to dispatch cleaning crews to the beach and will install signs informing visitors of the camping prohibition
Thapsa is one of Greece’s 198 legally designated “untouched beaches” part of the Natura 2000 network
protected from commercial exploitation to preserve their natural shoreline
the beach has grown in popularity as a camping destination
following the municipality’s decision to pave a section of the road previously accessible only by off-road vehicles
The individual who captured the viral photo described to Kathimerini the situation at Thapsa last weekend
the beach was overcrowded and filled not only with umbrellas but also with dozens of camping tents from people who clearly intended to stay overnight illegally
confirmed that last weekend “not a single free spot” remained on the beach
despite the nationwide ban on illegal camping
something that is unprecedented for Thapsa
although it has occurred on other well-known beaches of Evia for years,” he stated
Illegal camping poses not only public health risks
with local residents complaining about an intense bad smell coming from the beach last weekend

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the island of Evia on Thursday afternoon
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 3 kilometers southwest of Aliveri
was created around the property’s outdoor spaces
The exterior areas include a swimming pool
a large terrace protected by a concrete canopy and a barbecue area
The house spans 110 sq m and belongs to a professional couple based in Athens
Creating a generous outside space that would feel open but could also be secure and private was one of the project’s key challenges
Common areas include an open plan living
The house also features a double bedroom and bathroom
Its open plan makes it feel larger than its actual size
raw concrete and white rendered walls make up the project’s main material pallette
The house enjoys long views of rolling hills and the blue Greek sea
the barbeque area and the vegetable garden became the driving force for the design,' explains Kokosalaki
which was designed to be all about the outside.
accommodating a relatively straightforward program; an open-plan living
All share majestic vistas towards the garden and the sea beyond.

as part of the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival
The special screening of the short documentary L'éclairage revient / Waves of Light
The project L'éclairage revient [the Light Returns]
filmed at the historic PPC’s Steam-Electric Power Plant in Aliveri
is part of the "Waves of Light" online festival
carried out by the Greek National Opera in collaboration with the Public Power Corporation
under the artistic curation of Giorgos Koumendakis
The filmmakers were inspired by the notes they found at the plant crafting a soundscape where Arthur Rimbaud's poetry interacts with the reflections of those who once worked at the Steam-Electric Power Plant of Aliveri
PPC intertwines the effort to turn to green energy with culture
uniting and highlighting Greece's cultural identity
Its commitment to innovation and cultural values strengthens its social role and the prospect of sustainable development for all
collaborator of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival and Publications Coordinator: "Welcome to a very special screening of the 27th edition of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival
not only because it combines cinema with music
but also because it presents a hybrid work
created within the framework of the online festival "Waves of Light"
Today's screening is supported by PPC and we will have the opportunity to enjoy the film The Light Returns
We are very happy to have here with us the creators Panagiotis Andrianos
Michalis Kalogerakis and Pantelis Kalogerakis"
she said and gave the floor to Pantelis Kalogerakis
"When we visited the inactive steam-electric power plant in Aliveri
we experienced an amazing and very vivid situation," he stated
it was impossible not to notice all the objects people had left there when leaving
From ashtrays and journals to notebooks – we are talking
We used pieces of these workers' notes in the film
Every manuscript was written in beautiful calligraphy
while at the same time these people were responsible for the well functioning of this huge plant
providing electric power to all of us," he noted
this was the reason why Arthur Rimbaud's poems were finally incorporated into the film: "Rimbaud was a poet during the Industrial Revolution and as a prophet – as he called himself – he serves as a capstone to the industrial image we are trying to give to the film
It was a great opportunity for us to collaborate and get inspired
We would like to thank the Greek National Opera and the artistic director George Koumendakis
as well as PPC for their sponsorship and support," he added
a live concert by Michalis and Pantelis Kalogerakis followed with selections from their albums (Prosopiko
The fire that erupted on Monday afternoon on Evia Island continued to blaze through the night
prompting additional evacuations as firefighters worked tirelessly to control the flames
During the night and early Tuesday morning
new evacuation alerts were issued via 112 messages to residents in Klimaki
the blaze is advancing southward between the settlements of Petries
Approximately 205 firefighters with 56 vehicles are on the ground
five aircraft and three helicopters were deployed to assist in the firefighting efforts
Fire service spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakogiannis told Kathimerini that the fire in the southeastern part of Evia
“Properties and settlements are indeed at risk
While I wouldn’t say it is the most dangerous fire of the summer so far
it is certainly one of the most severe,” he said
noting that a vehicle’s tires were burned and a firefighter sustained minor burns on his fingers
Vathrakogiannis emphasized that the causes of the fire are still under investigation
and conditions are expected to become more challenging in the coming days
We need to exercise great caution,” he urged
Evia experienced devastating forest fires in 2021
which destroyed about 50,000 hectares of forest
approximately one-third of its total forest cover
“Forest fires are a reality for the entire country
and they are perhaps even more frequent on Evia.”
“Our area is prone to burning due to its winds and specific vegetation types.” He noted that the fire currently has two main active fronts
with the most dangerous one in the Koskina area
“the situation could become even more perilous.”
An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred on Thursday afternoon in Evia and was strongly felt in Attica
According to the automatic solution of the Geodynamic Institute
the epicenter was located 2 kilometers north of Aliveri
The seismic tremor lasted for a while; however
there have been no reports of material damages so far
and it is still too early to say whether we should be concerned
The initial estimate is that it occurred in Aliveri with a magnitude of 4.2
but we need to wait for the accurate magnitude and depth to be determined,” explained Dr
director of research at the Geodynamic Institute
