Sailing through the Corinth Canal to explore the Saronic islands was a breezy blast for Heather Prentice and family
I took the call 24 hours before we were due to fly
Alex kindly asked me if she could help stock the boat
We were scheduled to join our Seafarer yacht in Kiato after midnight and to sail first thing in the morning
Alex sent a link to a local Greek supermarket
I tapped a few items on my phone – the Greek alphabet blurring my choices
The goods would be delivered to the boat and stowed for the trip
We boarded the Bavaria 37 Stairway to Heaven
Christian and myself – hone our sailing skills as a family while exploring a more challenging sailing area rich in classical history
heading through the Corinth Canal for the sheltered bay at the village of Korfos on the western side of the Saronic Gulf
the wind whipped up to around Force 6 – a lot of white water for a first day
helmed by South Africans Keenan and Nathan
led the small fleet through the four miles of the Corinth Canal
this was the first time and it was spectacular – azure water the colour of the sky
towering cliffs and road and railway bridges high above us
Someone was playing music on one of the bridges
The awe-inspiring 250ft sandstone cliffs also carry the distinctive marks of ancient chiselling dating from Nero’s first attempt to dig the canal in 67 AD
The transit at a measured 6 knots took around 45 minutes
The wind was still strong so we sailed with a reefed main and had some fun dodging between the cargo ships anchored in a holding pattern at the top of the Saronic Gulf
the wind abated and we switched on the engine
We were determined to sail as much as possible
preferring the tranquility and the beautiful views to the quayside
The first thing we did was to go swimming off the boat
Siena and Christian loved jumping off the stern platform
gliding silently through the water powered by the electric outboard
Nathan and Keenan and our fellow crews from around the UK for welcome drinks
accompanied by delicious local cheeses and snacks
The charming proprietor of our chosen taverna decided our choice of food was not correct: instead he brought out a Greek salad
followed by two seafood platters with calamari
It was interesting as my order choices meant we had ice cream
almond butter and a few other oddities to choose from as well as the bread and homemade jam in the welcome pack from Seafarer
The family sailing through the Corinth Canal – Heather
passing the sunken city which lies two metres under the sea
Archaeologists reported the ruins are the remains of a Roman villa dating from the second century
There was no wind today and the water was glassy calm
we saw tuna fish leaping out of the water – a welcome surprise
We arrived in Old Epidavros in time for a shaded lunch aboard
For Christian and Siena this would be the first time
safety procedures and learning the hand signals for octopus and lionfish
instructor Vicky took Siena and Christian by the hand and led them gradually down to the sea bed below
but we ended up going eight metres down on our first dive
octopus and ancient stone vases and some Roman pottery,’ Christian added
The first night on an unfamiliar boat can be a bit restless
You listen to the creaks and groans of…
had been stranded in the Dominican Republic for two months
I had been sailing from Martinique…
to visit the nearby Sanctuary of Asklepios
The Sanctuary was the most important therapeutic centre of the ancient world and saw the transition from belief in divine healing to the science of medicine
The archaeological site includes the temples of Artemis and Asklepios
built in the 4th century BC and still used for concerts
What was interesting was the combination of both physical and spiritual healing to treat illness
The view from the Temple of Aphaia towards the bay of Aegina Marina on the island of Aegina
We stopped for lunch and swam in the shelter of the island of Agistri
chic port with regular ferries arriving from Athens
We explored the shops and ice cream parlours in the ancient
narrow streets before stopping to dine on more fresh seafood
Next day was a short hop round the north end of Aegina to the quiet harbour of Aegina Marina
The harbour was beautiful with a natural swimming pool just behind the boats
We later went for a dinner overlooking the harbour and a quiet drink in the evening in the nearby cafe
we walked up the hill to visit the Temple of Aphaia
The Doric temple is well preserved and is situated on a spectacular location
easily visible historically to ships passing on the trade route between Athens and the Peloponnese
Leaving the western end of the Corinth Canal and heading back towards Kiato
had taken to sea to escape the pursuit of King Minos of Crete when she was rescued by fishermen and taken to Aegina
who helped her escape by vanishing – the name Aphaia meaning invisible
Aphaia was revered as a hunting goddess who protects shipping – Aegina was an important centre of trade in the region
As we were immersed in the history and stunning views
the smartphones of all nearby visitors suddenly bleeped loudly
This was an alert from the Greek government about an imminent storm
The local sailors take these warnings seriously
As we were due back in Kiato the next day and had a long sail to get there
we decided to leave promptly ahead of the bad weather
We cast off slightly nervously as other boats were coming into harbour
it was only a three-hour sail to our next anchorage at Kanakia
but then we saw the dark clouds gathering on the horizon
The family go scuba diving at Old Epidavros
This was the first time for Christian and Siena
We switched on the engine so we were beam reaching at a spirited 8 knots
It then became a bit of a race against the weather
we could hear the thunder and see the dark shadow of wind in the distance
Siena and Christian counted the seconds between the thunder and lightning – according to them the storm passed around 2km to our west
In the morning we set off with the sunrise and had breakfast en route
We were through the Corinth Canal late morning and shortly afterwards back at Kiato
colourful odyssey that certainly helped us improve our skills together as a family
We would love to return and explore other islands in this stunning

Our team of product experts thoroughly vet every product we recommend to help you cut through the clutter and find what you need
Looking to remove hard-to-clean stains off your floors
Maybe you’ve got some nasty gunk accumulating on the tile in your bathroom
you can clean just about any surface in your home or vehicle with nothing but heat
We love steam cleaners for their versatility—these cleaning beasts often come with attachments
The best steam cleaners can tackle the biggest outside cleaning challenges
A great steam cleaner is just as useful inside homes for cleaning grout
and sticky messes on countertops and other solid surfaces
these cleaning machines don’t require chemicals to remove grime
relying instead on the power of water heated into steam
When testing and evaluating top-rated steam cleaners
we paid particular attention to water tank capacity
Waiting for a steam cleaner to heat up can be a drag
but the steamers we recommend all heat up quickly
with the steam mop we picked only taking a minute to reach cleaning power
we also recommend looking for one that has plenty of attachments for different cleaning tasks
The McCulloch steam cleaner is compact enough to be carried from place to place
though you'll need to store all the accessories
The McCulloch MC1375 is a great all-around heavy-duty canister steam cleaner
including metal and nylon brushes in different shapes and sizes
When we tested this McCulloch steam cleaner
It’s able to handle all sorts of incredibly tricky jobs
It magically dissolved grime from the grates of a grill and even cleaned stuck-on adhesive residue on vinyl tile
Our cleaning tests found it takes 5 to 10 minutes for this steam cleaner to warm up
The power cord length reaches up to 18 feet
and it has a 7-foot steam hose for hard-to-reach areas
We also like that it has a variable steam control knob
The MC1375 isn’t a perfect cleaning machine
which can be dangerous since you’re cleaning with steam
you’ll need to empty the tank after cleaning
the McCulloch steam cleaner impressed our tester from start to finish—Amazon reviewers feel the same
Most user reviews praise how efficiently it cleans
whereas more negative ones mention broken parts having to be replaced
It offers chemical-free cleaning in a 13-pound package
and can handle most surfaces and flooring types in your home
Read our full function ga4_link95() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse('{"event":"click_inarticle","link_location":"product_widget"}')) }McCulloch MC1375 review
While the viral function ga4_link98() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse('{"event":"click_inarticle","link_location":"product_widget"}')) }Bissell Steam Shot Deluxe lives up to its hype
We think people looking for an alternative will be happy with the Kiato Handheld Steam Cleaner
it comes with an extensive set of attachments
Its size makes it easier to use in vehicles than larger
It’s easy to use too—fill it up and plug it in
It’s designed to be ready in under three minutes
and it has a button at the top of the handle to release steam for cleaning
The main downsides to this cleaner are that the attachment heads are rather small and the tank is small in comparison to heavy-duty cleaners
it just means it takes more time to clean surface areas—and cleaning time is limited by the water tank capacity
we think this is a quality handheld steam cleaner that tackles grime with ease
If floors are your biggest cleaning concern, then you may want to consider the PurSteam 10-in-1 steam mop. From the maker of our function ga4_link100() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse('{"event":"click_inarticle","link_location":"product_widget"}')) }favorite steam iron
this steam mop can be removed from its cradle to be used as a handheld steam cleaner
the PurSteam’s mop head swivels for easier cleaning around furniture
so you can reach messes whether you’re in mop mode or using it as a handheld steam cleaner
Its tank is smaller than other cleaners we evaluated
but it still runs for about 20 to 25 minutes at a time
which has 30,000-plus 5-star Amazon ratings
chemical-free cleaner at an attractive price point
Users love the grout tool to deep clean tile grout
The Wagner Spraytech 905e steam cleaner is specifically designed to clean automobiles
with attachments that will help you keep your vehicle like-new without harsh chemicals
which is designed to reach tight spaces in between car seats
and the nylon brushes for cup holders and door pockets and wire brushes that can be used under the hood
The angled jet nozzle will blast away grime from your hubcaps—and it’s also great for bathroom fixtures and other hard-to-reach areas
The 905e also comes with a microfiber bonnet that attaches to a steamer attachment
you’ll love how this dynamic duo cleans car seats and seatbelts
With the squeegee that attaches to the steamer
you’ll be able to easily wipe away bugs from windshields and soap scum from shower doors
because the steam can cause it to crack if the glass is too cold.)
This Wagner steam cleaner’s 40-ounce tank delivers up to 45 minutes per cleaning session
Wagner says the unit should never be stored with water in the tank
One other drawback is the length of the power cord
the 6-foot power cord limits this steam cleaner’s portability
but a longer power cord would be an improvement
the 905e is an eminently affordable steam cleaner that’s a big hit with online shoppers
It has everything you need to keep your vehicle’s interior clean
and reviewers say it’s great for detailing cars
users have reported ruptures or broken attachments
The Dupray Neat steam cleaner has a 54-ounce water tank and delivers up to 50 minutes of continuous steam
which makes it a superb choice for detailing tile and grout
Like other steam cleaners we have evaluated
the Dupray Neat comes with many attachments
the Dupray also has a triangular tool that will help you clean corners
Another thing that we love is that you can use regular towels and cloths with the mop head
in addition to the included microfiber pads and cloth
While it’s recommended that you use distilled water to extend the life of this steam cleaner
It also has two 3-foot extension tubes and a long steam hose to help clean hard-to-reach areas
It comes with a two-year limited warranty and lifetime guarantee on the boiler
so you can rest assured that the company stands behind this steam cleaner
with more than 20,000 ratings—it seems like people who have bought it agree
There are three types of steam cleaners—canister-style cleaners
Canister steam cleaners are bigger than handheld steam cleaners and steam mops
and they often can tackle tougher cleaning jobs
When shopping for a canister steam cleaner
They usually come with a large assortment of attachments
Handheld steam cleaners are meant to be carried
so they are more portable and can reach hard-to-clean areas
They tend to have smaller tanks than canister steam cleaners
but the water capacity is often more than what you would find in steam mops
Because steam cleaners use really hot water
you shouldn’t use them on hardwood floors that are not sealed
you can test clean a small area to ensure there is no damage
They also can handle bigger jobs that may cause other cleaning tools to struggle
This expertise and knowledge help us choose the best steam cleaners—we know what features are important to look for when shopping for a steam cleaner
While we didn’t personally test all the steam cleaners we have recommended here
we’re confident we’ve found some of the best on the market

A new railway line that connects the towns of Kiato, Diakofto and Aigio in the northern Peloponese went into operation on Thursday, the Ministry of Development & Investments announced.
The line includes three railway stations at Xylokastro, Akrata and Aigio, and six railway stops at Diminio, Lykoporia, Lygia, Platanos, Diakofto and Eliki.
The project, undertaken by ErgOSE SA with a budget total of 848 million euros and co-financed by the EU's Cohesion Fund 2000-2006 and NSRF resources, includes the construction of the second Corinth-Kiato railway line of 22.3 km, as well as the construction of the new 70 km Kiato-Aigio line, along with the construction of the railway stations, the installation of signaling posts, and the relevant telecommunications infrastructures.
The project for the electrification of the railway segment linking the towns of Kiato and Aigio in the northern Peloponnese is expected to be canceled and re-tendered, according to government officials.
The project is considered very important for the upgrade of the Athens-Patra link, since the latter, in the western Peloponnese, is the most important port of embarkation for passengers and cargo for various ports in Italy.
When the project is finally completed, trains will run on a double line at speeds reaching up to 200 kilometers per hour.
The already electrified Athens-Kiato segment is part of the Athens suburban railway.

Railway projects worth more than 200 million euros are getting on track this week
This concerns the Rododafni-Rio project in the Peloponnese
which is expected to bring the railway closer and faster to Patra
and the Palaiofarsalos-Kalambaka project in Thessaly
On Tuesday the contract for the construction of the Rododafni-Rio section was signed with the Terna-Mytilineos consortium at the facilities of railway infrastructure company ErgOSE in the Panagopoula railway tunnel in Patra
includes the construction of 28.8 kilometers of double-track railway infrastructure
four minor stops as well as the electromechanical facilities inside the Panagopoula tunnel
electrification and remote-controlled signaling projects are also under way
which are expected to increase railway safety
The cost of the project amounts to 129.5 million euros
the work will last 36 months and will be co-financed by the European Union’s NSRF 2014-2020 program
the installation of an electrification system on the Palaiofarsalos-Kalambaka railway line
and the construction of a new bypass line at the Sofades station
the contract between ErgOSE and contracting company
Keep in mind that the Terna-Mytilineos joint venture has also undertaken the installation of an electrification system on the new double-track railway line that connects Kiato with Rododafni
This system and the new project signed on Tuesday concern the completion of the new double-track railway line of the Piraeus-Athens-Kiato-Patra network
which is part of the Piraeus-Thessaloniki-northern border line and is connected to the European railway network
the railway regulator (RAS) has approved the operation of signaling
remote control and traffic control projects in parts of the central axis of the network (Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki-Idomeni) as well as the corresponding subsystems for GaiaOSE trains

Right off the bat we discover that the old man had lied about possessing the magic stone because he wanted to initiate the battle royale
It turns out he didn't even know what the magic stone was to begin with and the only reason the Black Bulls were able to obtain it was because Asta's bird just found it laying around offscreen during the fight
The whole battle royale set-up is still so baffling to me
Now that the arc's over we can see the through-line in full and it's a cooky old man holding his grandchildren's dreams hostage for fun so the viewers at home can watch a dull tournament that gets interrupted immediately
and none of it mattered on any conceivable level
who have suffered the most in the fallout of the Vetto fight
Kahono's lost her vocal chords and Kiato lost his leg
Kahono can still speak to Noelle telepathically and they share a nice moment together
Kahono's a good girl and you hope she can recover sooner than later
and her friendship with Noelle is a genuine and heartfelt beat that I wish could have been explored with more lucidity in the arc itself
Also in need of some rest and relaxation is Asta
who's broken both of his arms and gets to spend the episode dual-weilding a pair of slings
but more so I really appreciate the scene where he and Yami pay their respects to Vetto's corpse
Vetto was by far the show's most effective villain yet
and he isn't simply knocked-out or imprisoned
and it's not without recognizing that there's some kind of injustice at the heart of the Clover Kingdom giving birth to villains like the Eye of the Midnight Sun
I thought the extraordinarily entertaining fight was enough to warrant a moment of silence
but the show offers Vetto sincere sympathy for the ambiguous despair he's been carrying throughout his life
So that's a wrap on the Underwater Temple arc
It was like a delicious sandwich being held proudly together by two slices of stale
The Vetto fight alone is enough to call this the best arc of the series to date
and it's a good thing that it makes up about 80% of the arc because it exists in spite of some honestly garbage material
This is a conservatively animated conclusion that in equal parts cuts to the heart of its most important characters and suffers from the fundamentally weak storytelling that kickstarted the arc

the father of the so-called New Wave in Greece in the ’60s
Spanos’s first release in 1964 ‘Mia agapi gia to kalokeri’ (A summer love) indelibly sealed his mark on the Greek music scene
and he took off from there with several successful LPs and many of his songs are well-known to Greek people
northern part of Corinthia in the Peloponnese
His father was a dentist who hoped his son would follow in his footsteps
The young man was drawn to the world of music more than science
and was particularly influenced by his sister’s piano studies
before he moved to Athens at the age of 17 to study at the National Conservatory where he learned to play the piano

He travelled extensively and lived briefly in Italy
he worked at the Rive Gauche as a piano accompanist
He accompanied many French artists like Cora Vaucaire
It was in Paris and in French that he wrote his first songs; an example is the song Sidonie that was sung by Brigitte Bardot in the film A Very Private Affair. When he eventually moved back to Greece
he was pivotal in the creation of the Greek New Wave genre
including soundtracks for films; his songs have been sung by many Greek singers including Keti Chomata
Giannis Poulopoulos and Dimitris Mitropanos
He also set to music poems by several Greek poets

he was active until his death Thursday and had been busy preparing for a series of concerts
and Vetto feels threatening in a way he didn't before
screw you too" face while she's at the villain's mercy made me really like her
and from there the fight rests on Noelle's shoulders
This is our chance to see how much stronger she's gotten after the past few arcs
giving it her all with a final water spell that blows Vetto's arm clean off
I enjoy how even Vetto remarks on the Silva family's corruption
implying that he thinks Noelle's royal power is an extension of the evil that he and the Midnight Sun is trying to fight the Clover Kingdom over
we know that Noelle's power is her own and that she's fighting on the behalf of her friends
Despite taking the brunt of Noelle's attack
Vetto has an awakening of his own: a third eye that opens along with a boost in power
The end of the episode sees Asta using his anti-magic to protect Noelle from Vetto's counterattack
and the shot of him standing in front of her with the ground carved out around them from the energy blast just screams "iconic"
Asta and Noelle both come across marvelously heroic this week
This is such a good episode that it makes me wish the lead-up to it was better constructed
I still think the way the battle royale game transitioned into the Midnight Sun fight is clunky as hell
but this is a rare moment of clarity where Black Clover succeeds at being the kind of shonen action show that it's trying to be
There's a great push and pull between the heroes and villains
and the show finally feels like it has an ounce of personality that isn't just an echo of shonen battle manga before it

What was difficult to find a few decades ago, now there are many Japanese restaurants competing to conquer the taste buds of locals and visitors alike.
With just a few tables and a secluded setting, they aim to make customers feel at ease with a friendly and attentive service. They offer a menu selected by the head chef, with the option of a separate à la carte menu. All this comes with an explanation of each of the dishes to be tasted to provide a different experience.
This year 2024 marks three years since the restaurant opened and, to mark the occasion, it launched a prize draw that gave away a year of free food. The prize included a year of free monthly visits to the restaurant and a year of Sentaki, its new takeaway street food concept.
